@Angelo Augustus i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
To anyone doing this install who is concerned about the wiring.. I did this today, and it was extremely easy. Using the axxess harness, just take the two red wires from the harness and wire them to the red wire on the pioneer harness. Everything else is color coded exactly right. I also just attached to the parking brake wire (lime green) to ground to override it.
I like your can-do attitude. Just going ahead and trying things without prior experience like soldering etc. And then going and learning how to fix it on your own if it doesn't work. Not enough of this kind of self sufficiency anymore. Good stuff!

I've purchased from Crutchfield before, too. Always good people to deal with. I just ordered a Sony Android Auto head unit for my C5. They now have a wiring service and for $25, I'm not going to deal with the brain damage for that little. They always know exactly what you need based on your vehicle.
2nd upgrade I did to my car was the head unit (Kenwood). Didn't have the wire issue that you had. I had to fiddle with my unit to get it to not look crooked in the dash. I ran a double usb port extension to the lighter in the console. After it was done, I ran it that way for about 3 weeks before I added 2 amps, a sub and changed out the front and rear speakers. Now I REALLY like the way it sounds other than you don't really get a "front stage" feeling from the door speakers. Keep up the good content!
Man. Ive been working on cars for years. But I steer away from the electrical system. All of them wires looks like spaghetti to me 😄. Glad it all worked out for you. ✌🏾💯
I did my C5 3 years ago. I used a Kenwood double din. I took everything apart, sent my center console piece out to a company that converted it to Double Din. That process took longer than expected, so by the time I got that back, we were moving to a new home and half the garage was packed up. This caused me to need to get someone to complete the install, so I didn't do the re-install. So watching your video now makes me appreciate the extra dollars it cost me to have a pro do it. You validated what I expected having never done my own radio installation....that it was NOT fun. :) Looks great! Thanks for posting!
I did the same mod on my C5 in 2019. Was a real challenge to say the least. Unfortunately, I didn't have a kit to line up the DDIN or the HVAC. Wish I did 'cause that was FUN...lol! Fortunately though I had no issues with the wiring in the harness, but I did replace all the speakers and installed an amp. This was the first time I had ever taken on such a challenge and was very thankful for on-line forum support. Good on ya for giving it a go. After all the frustration, it's worth it in the end. Especially if you have a convertible like I do. Now I can actually hear the music! Unlike before with the stock unit. Great Vid!!
Just wanted to say it looks awesome, thanks for taking the time to show the in depth process. I have a C5 and plan on just adding a sub for now with a different interface of course. Your video shows me what to plan for if I eventually change my head unit. Again, awesome job man.
I had difficulty with mine as well. I had it done by a shop and had to carry it back 3 times till it got right so dont beat yourself up. C5 is just a beast of electronic wonders
I have a touchscreen in my 2002 C5, it really makes the car look more modern inside and the HD backup camera does as well. I also like to Bluetooth my Pandora and the hands-free phone.
Great Video. Excellent explanations in trouble shooting. I used NEX AVIC-6100NEX Pioneer in my C6 5yrs ago. The GPS is awesome and is as accurate. Its just as accurate as my phone using google maps still to this day. It has real time satellite updated info traffic alerts and so forth and u can set it up to alert for red light cameras, and many more features great units.
Looks very flush I like it, besides... Thank you for showing us the installation process... A lot of people skip all their weak points. I'm kinda debating about purchasing a C5 for a daily, not long moved here from the UK... well, 2nd week! found a C5 for only $13k and it's manual as well with 78k miles. Worth it?
The absolute best way to change the color on plastic parts is to place the part in damn near boiling hot water with RIT dye, for about an hour. You can remove it, dry it off and if the color is not quite right put it back in the bath. If it’s white plastic, you can change it to any color you want but if it is a dark color to start, you’ll only darken the original color. Just remember your color combinations… If the plastic is red and you want it blue, you’ll have to go through the stages of purple before you get to blue… Very dark blue. This way you’ll never have to worry about chips or scratched paint. There are plenty of “how-to” videos on YT.
Nice - thanks for the video and for toughing it out and documenting. I want to do this with my wife's 99 coupe - hoping that the new unit will allow for aux use of our factory cd changer....
Great Video. One of the best of have seen yet on the Double Din Receiver install yet on a C5. I am real close to installing my Kenwood set up in my '99 C5. I ended up buying the new Dash piece last Summer but it was to humid and hot out to install it at my old age and I never got a chance to do it in the fall. Was hoping to get to it before it got real hot again here in the North East. My dash piece is still sitting in the box. I am going to have to take another look at it now bringing it into the car to compare it to the original. I only opened the box when it came to make sure there was no damage. I purchased a Metra at the time but saw recently that someone has them (another brand) even cheaper now a year later but under a different name. I almost went for the real expensive dash replacement that retains the flip up door for the cup holder and ash tray but I could not see spending double of what the Metra sold for. I remember when I purchased my Metra DP3021B many said they installed it as is that the finish was great on it. Well at least I got to see here that I have another option if I don't like the match up as is. I had purchased the same Axxess XSVI-2004 Amplifier Interface Harness last July 2019 being it was recommended on the Corvette Forum. I was told there it was suppose to be plug and play. No need to seek out a accessory wire. They said if I was to buy the PAC Interface set up for the C5 that one required you to find a accessory wire. Now you have me wondering here before I even start my project. One question to you. I saw you gave up what seemed right away with trying to drill the pop rivets out for the shelfs and went with a Sawzaw instead. That was something I wanted to try and save so that if I ever decided to sell the car the new owner if he wanted to could put it back to factory stock. Hoping those studs were made out of Aluminum that you were drilling into holding the shelfs on. What was the problem you encountered? Again a great video. You did a nice job doing it. It should help out plenty of people thinking about doing it if they have any mechanical ability in them. Some people just rather leave it up to someone else. Oh I should mention here that I purchased a Kenwood DMX7705S for my C5 install with Carplay last year. I installed one in my daughters 2007 Mustang and I also installed the previous version Kenwood DMX7704S in my everyday 2000 Merc Marquis to bring it up to date. Love my Kenwoods. Did you think about installing a back up camera?
Got done with with my install last week. There was no need for you to go for a accessory wire in the passenger footwell using the Access Interface. You should of just connected the red wire from your new radio to the 2 red wires from your Access. My Kenwood Receiver is working fine and the Corvette forum was right about using the Access interface saying it was pretty much plug and play. Just connect your wires according to the manual that comes with the Access to anyone thinking about doing this mod to your C5.
I admire your tenacity...I would like to put the same unit in my C6...but after watching this video I think I will have it done by Best Buy...if they ever open up. Good video as always!
I should do this to my metra bezel. Never thought of actually making it match. I put some heated seat buttons in that little void area. Just used some ABS plastic and mounted the switches in there. The only problem is you can't easily use that retaining screw, so mine isn't sticking in as far as I would like. I hate taking off the center console. Putting that gas filler panel connector is such a pain. I wish I had a sawzall when I did mine. I went through several drill bits, you can't drill that out, that's BS. I had to use a manual hack saw. My hand hurt for days.
I've made this upgrade to my '04, love it, also did the backup camera, didn't have to paint mine, it was a perfect match, I still have to do all the external lighting upgrades tho
Hey Tim I have an 04 too and it’s currently torn apart because I have no idea where to connect the wires that are supposed to go under the passenger footwell because apparently all c5s besides the 04s have the yellow orange and black. Any help would be appreciated

Works great and a lot less hassle.
@@stevesnvegas9040 Yeah Steve I agree, this fix is just the cheapest way to upgrade an older vet's sound system so you can stream Spotify, Pandora etc.
I was rocking something like that for years, but when they came out with the bezel I went for it and i'm glad I did. Double DIN is mandatory for a C5. It really makes you like the car more.
Hey, brother, I was watching your video here. And I think you should have put a diode in the system so that you wouldn't have feedback. 12 volt power supply
I believe your problem is because you tried to tap into an accessory wire in the car. The accessory wires on the Axxess go to the accessory wire on the radio - not the car. The radio should not have gone to the cars accessory - it should have gone to the Axxess. If you hook it up like this, I believe your RAP (retained accessory power) will function. Simply hooked it up incorrectly.

SO from my experience, we dont need to access the wires in the kick panel. My car is 03 z06 not sure if previous years are diff.
Great work fixing your AC head unit!! Isn't it awesome to see the temp!! I suspect that is what you fixed the 1st time you used your soldering iron. Good job!! Thanks for the tips and tricks on the bracket replacement. I have been putting off doing this to my 03 since the stock color was off. Now that I know it can be painted, I will be putting it on my list of upgrades.
Love your videos. Questions. When you painted your new bezel, I noticed that you used a "plastic prep" prior to the adhesive spray. Is this the same as the Color Bond Prep Cleaner or was this something in addition to the steps? Thinking the same product, but the bottles are different. How many coats of adhesion promoter and paint did you use? After some time now, are you still happy with the results? Thank you.
I'm guessing there's absolutely no way of getting rid of those 90's era Chevy AC controls? I just watched another C5 interior upgrade video and he had the same thing.
Wow. Well done. I dont care a lot for new equipment, except for navigation. Havent decided. I figure its a lot of headaches which is why i havent done anything yet. ???
I like it video very much, not much difference from putting in a 7 in Pioneer touch screen in a 2000 Trans Am. I did this many years ago and I should have made a video about it. But of course you have to modify the dash to get it in. But I did not run into any problems like you had. Next time have a wire tester with you, it might help if you go to do this again or give advice. My 7in Pioneer I hooked up myself and it just like Factory, meaning taking the key out and it keeps running until you open the door. And you can customize the screen, you can connect a flash drive to the harness that comes with the kit and you can play movies songs and also download pictures where you can have as a screensaver just like Factory.
my c5 is automatic. the 2 red wires connected to the single red wire on pioneer. orange to orange on pioneer. mounted ground wires to radio mount frame. radio operates correctly, but, the bose woofer speakers are not connected. how did you get the woofers to work? thanks Ronnie
So long term...is your Bose system playing nice with this headunit? I have had a 350z with a Sony head unit, a 'Bose' converter (Metra brand I think) and I still have PTSD from that car's Bose sub amp cutting in and out even after I soldered in a new relay. I never want to mess with a factory Bose system again. I'm looking at Bluetooth receivers now 😅
Now that it has been some time, how is the head unit working. I'm particularly interested in if you find it clunky, delayed or glitchy when using wireless CarPlay. Also can you let me know if the dimmer feature works very well (as some units are still blinding at night and don't dim very much)? Lastly does the back up camera come on reliably no matter what mode you are in - in the head unit or any issues there? Good sound even with no amp? Thanks ahead of time for your replies.
Quite frankly I’m not sure I see the point, you still need the phone to stream, so why bother with a display? I bought a $15 car Bluetooth receiver and wired it up to the c5 radio aux, let’s me keep fm/am reception. Also the c5 radio fits the Bose speakers so no power mismatch.
I had installed the exact same radio and XSVI-2004 module and after the install it made my audio sound tinny, like the bass is extremely muffled. I dont know what to do to fix it either, all of my wirings are correct from what i've seen. Anyone else with a similar problem?
Don't you have program it in order for the touch screen to work ? And the dealer should have the codes ? Cause i think if you just swap it like that it'll mess up the ecu computer causing the car to not start
Now i’m ready to get started. All I need is a c5, the tools, and the replacement stereo😃

Excellent camera work. Good job!
I wouldn't mind being able to do a mod like that to my old C3. How difficult do you think it would be for somebody that's color bling?
Really need to do this to my C5, I just don't have the confidence to not screw it up lmao
Take to a car-audio shop then. It should be expensive.
Did the Colorbond paint give it the same texture as factory?
Where did you get the console
Can you tell me the brand of rear tail lights your using maybe an install video ?
I want to know we’re you got that shift knob. These cars are so hard to buy one for.
So the sound qualitiy is good using the Bose amp?
Love your videos.
Questions. When you painted your new bezel, I noticed that you used a "plastic prep" prior to the adhesive spray. Is this the same as the Color Bond Prep Cleaner or was this something in addition to the steps? Thinking the same product, but the bottles are different. How many coats of adhesion promoter and paint did you use?
After some time now, are you still happy with the results? Thank you.
I must have messed up somewhere because I can't get my bass signal to come through my speakers, I just have Highs and some Mid from them....
PITA! I would've taken the pill.
I'm guessing there's absolutely no way of getting rid of those 90's era Chevy AC controls? I just watched another C5 interior upgrade video and he had the same thing.
Great video. Where did you buy the double din console from?
Wow. Well done. I dont care a lot for new equipment, except for navigation. Havent decided. I figure its a lot of headaches which is why i havent done anything yet. ???
Just installed the same kit just with a BOSS BCPA9 and I have no audio, radio turns on and off with the car, everything is soldered, just no sound
Hey man have u had any issues with your Bose system after the touchscreen?
Without connecting the illumination wire, doesn't the screen stay really bright at night and not dim like it's supposed to?
Best Buy charges like 180 to install, so that is what I am going to do if I decide to go all 2019 on my C5.
How does it sound with the stock Bose? Do you see any need to upgrade the speakers or add bass?
This... This is just what I was looking for!!!!
Love the video👍🔥
is that a tattoo of a Dorito chip on your right forearm ?? lol
I thought it was a slice of pizza. Lol
Yes it’s a cool ranch Dorito
No the pizza tattoo is on my back. JK 😂
Looks like VIR.
my c5 is automatic. the 2 red wires connected to the single red wire on pioneer. orange to orange on pioneer. mounted ground wires to radio mount frame. radio operates correctly, but, the bose woofer speakers are not connected. how did you get the woofers to work?
thanks
Ronnie
Great job but nothing i will do to my c5 1997.
how much would it cost to get this done by a mechanic on my c5
How did this work out over the last year? How did the paint hold up?
Great job kiddo!
Awesome video👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Do you have a way I can contact you in regards to some install questions about this unit?
So basically you’re a genius
Yea, I’m paying to get this done
Does that head unit have blouetooth and/or at least an aux slot to listen to music from phone?
Yea he says it at the end of the video
I had installed the exact same radio and XSVI-2004 module and after the install it made my audio sound tinny, like the bass is extremely muffled. I dont know what to do to fix it either, all of my wirings are correct from what i've seen. Anyone else with a similar problem?
Don't you have program it in order for the touch screen to work ? And the dealer should have the codes ? Cause i think if you just swap it like that it'll mess up the ecu computer causing the car to not start
