The drink holder has got to be the worst of any other car. Recently bought a couple drink of holders with 2 large pouches and it slides up under console at the top to hold it in place. Love it
yea thats gotta be the worst part of the interior. if you get like a 20 oz gatorade you can squeeze it in. any regular soda or water bottle shit might as well keep it in the passenger seat and reach over or its gon be on the floor
First off the most annoying thing is not being able to find interior parts in Shale. The one thing that comes to mind is the shifter knob on a manual transmission in shale
The glove box latch has broken twice. Is inexpensive and easy to install. Just a pain. Everything else on my 2004 interior so far has not been a problem. I truly enjoy your RUclips posting.
Yup - familiar with every one of those little items except the for seat bezel (which I will now take a long hard look at). Thanks Lyle, for the great content.
Hi Lyle, I would add the console to the list of annoying parts. The lid hinge can stick and, if you’re not careful, crack the lid and/or the base. If the console is shale color, replacing it is very difficult.
By far the most annoying thing for me was the overheating solder on the back of the HVAC unit that eventually causes the entire unit to not display anything. That combined with the incandescent bulbs on the front, that burn out over time, are beyond frustrating. Fortunately you can find folks on ebay that rebuild the entire unit, but you have to rip the console and half the center stack out to get to them. Oh, and mechanically... 1 to 4 shift should be sent straight to the fiery pits of hell! :)
Nice video again! Annoying is the rocking drivers seat which I believe is a plastic part for the track. I know you covered this in a previous video when replacing the seat cushions and covers.
Always enjoy the videos from someone who does what he is doing . And has had the experience for all the little things that come up that the average guy doesn't think about.
Everything you stated was broken or missing on my 2001 C5 convertible. I'm in the process of replacing everything since I just purchased it a couple weeks ago.
Great information. But my most annoying thing on the interior are the sun visors. Bought new ones. But couldn't get them to snap in correctly. They are are just being held in in the upright position by the snap in rod.
Have new visors as well and they don’t get totally seated either - they look much better but so far unable to get them totally installed like Lyle showed
Great post Lyle. In addition, the most annoying design for the C5’s by far, is the one and only cup holder. I found a helpful tool by Corvette Clips, that keeps your drink upright and steady. Please check it out!
I do metal shaping/fabrication work. In a couple weeks I will be posting my design on the corvette forum to address this issue. I’m currently waiting on the color matched paint to come in. The design is non invasive and will not impede functions of your car. Be on the lookout.
@@TheHotsauce142 I suppose you know you will be competing with the travel buddy product. Yes it is overpriced, but it is out of the way, obstructing no comfort or function and works well. I'm happy with mine, although I use it more for a phone receptacle than beverage holding. I suppose GM recognized the lack of available space with their meager cupholder design, and perhaps saw the problem differently than yourself. I am confident any improvement will sell well.
@@richardelliott8352 I’m not concerned with “competing” with any product. My intention is not to get rich off the idea. I’m making a custom fit product catered to the persons liking or car. If they want to buy an overpriced molded piece of plastic from China that everyone else has, I won’t lose any sleep over it. At the end of the day it’s a cup/phone holder for a 20 year old car. Obviously there’s a void that people still feel is missing. I’m only offering an additional option.
If you have broken tabs on your door reflector, you can bend paperclips to the approximate size. Heat until red hot and sink them into the plastic with a pair of pliers. Melt the plastic over with a soldering iron.
Just remove your sunvisors and hardware and save a bunch of time and aggravation. I did, and used my walmat raybans and new balances and i was good to go! Saved a pound or two as well!
My top 5 annoying things about the interior of my C5? Well, the whole interior. 🤣😂 Good thing I bought the car for it's performance and not the interior.
I’m not sure I can agree with you here. I’m a longtime Honda and European guy. And I get it, the plastic pieces are, well very plastic. And the seats are a little janky. But the onboard computer is amazing, including the tire pressure monitoring system, the heads up display is truly cutting edge and useful, the gauges are very clearly laid out and readable and easily switchable between metric and SAE, HVAC controls work well and are easy to use, and organically. Everything is right where it should be. The automatic transmission shifter looks and feels exactly like it should, 6‘3“ tall and I don’t have any trouble getting in or out and getting comfortable in it. Is it cool that the radio is the same one that you get in a base Chevy blazer? Of course not. But the stock Bose system sounded pretty damn good for its day. My daily driver is a fully loaded TLX. And yes, build quality is far superior. But there is still much goofiness, including two screens, a Bluetooth system that has a three second audio delay to everything you do, an auto stop start feature that makes me fucking insane, and literally nowhere to mount a smart phone. My girlfriend’s car is 24 years old at this point can I get a kick out of it every time I sit in it. I can also tell you that working on the interior parts is much easier than a lot of other other cars. Especially sports cars.
A door panel access plug was the first thing that made me happy that my used car, selected only for mechanical condition, had a black interior, since black got discontinued last by GM, before there were reproductions. I used a little white glue to avoid buying them endlessly. I was expecting the little button on the heads up display slider to make the list, since it is held on with spring tension, the same tension that shoots it off into the unknown if you are not careful.
Another great owner Corvette video. The very best Corvette online source. Appreciate all the great info Lyle clearly and concisely explains. Looking forward to the future C6 and C4 videos. Plasic is cheaper and lighter than metal and we owners of Corvettes need to deal with this issue.
Always great advice on your videos. Annoying for me is the seats moving forward when stopping. I know there is a fix but few more things I need to get done before I tackle that. One thing at a time. Love my ‘98 6 speed convertible but it’s always something!! I’ll always close my comments with wish I lived closer. 😀
Lyle, I have to laugh, and I did, even brought my wife in to review the video. 3 of the 5 mentioned I've replaced on my 2001. In fact, a year ago I had a major problem with the IPC and replaced it. This of course required removal of lots of plastic dash parts, most of which where damaged or broken where they clip in before they were removed carefully by me. What a nightmare. Lots of new plastic dash parts installed after that. Anyway, thanks for your video and keep them coming.
Looking forward to the C6, I’ll tell you right now it’s between the automatic shifter issues and the seat issues, seat foam, seat rocking . Shifter not coming out of Park and broken little red shifter indicator.
Have replaced the door access plug and the seat bezel which was done by your shop - great rebuild and recover BTW - add the glove door latch - replaced already and the “cup” holder cover - ended up replacing the full console cover - added aftermarket cup holder - life is good now - if I can get some wrinkles out of the back carpet - maybe one day
GM has to cut some corners. This is as good of a place as any. Since the cars interior is never it's strongest point of sale. But I over look the interior for how fun these cars are. (:
Without a doubt, failed HVAC blend actuators. Especially the passenger side as it requires dash pad removal and for some stupid reason on the earlier C5's the HVAC module doesn't self calibrate so if your blend doors are warped from age and heat you have disassemble and re-clock the pot in the actuators manually, total nightmare job. A close second is a failed HUD height adjustment motor or dim display requiring the complete disassembly of your dash and the HUD itself. 3rd place goes to the dreaded ignition lock that randomly fails forcing you to tow the car to the dealership with heavy repair costs. This was such a problem GM issued a recall but the recall actually makes the problem worse on manual models. 4th place are worn seat track bushings forcing complete seat removal and teardown to replace 4 lousy pieces of plastic. Lastly, the round ignition lock trim piece that's held in with tiny clips and once they break the part falls off leaving a gaping hole around the lock cylinder. The part itself is a terrible design and brutally delicate as it's constantly coming into contact with the key and vibrations from the lock cylinder motor.
The 2 thing that irk me about my C5 interior is the two little doors at the front of the console, cup holder and storage especially the storage one looks partially open. Yucky 😝
one thing i dislike are the large pannel gaps. You don't notice it at first, but look closely at the cup holder design with the middle console design. Large gaps but my interior makes me feel like a cheap blockbuster spaceship, so kudos to chevy!
1 or 2 sitcky-back Velcro 'dots' hold a lot of plastic wigits in place when the tabs break off. Actually they help before the heat cycles and vibration break the tabs.
Lyle, That round, plastic cover over the ignition cylinder on the inside of the dash. The clips break off and it flops around in there. I'm on my second one, and it too is broken.ff
The center console latch that always gets stuck is super annoying. Been in three different cars this year that they were jammed causing the console not to close all the way. Cheap and easy repair too.
I'm familiar with the sun visor part, when I bought my c5 commemorative the passenger side was broken. A minor annoyance and I couldn't find any to replace it in shale. I ordered a black one and found some paint at my local hardware store to match it pretty closely. I treat it very gently now and has been good since 2018. Luckily none of the other items you mentioned have been a problem. But I will keep an eye on them for issues. Thanks for all the videos you produce, really enjoy them.
On my C4, the plastic piece that covers the dimmer switch for the interior lights just broke in half. I didn’t even realize it until I saw the broken half on the floorboard.
The most annoying part for my Corvette C6 I know you're talking about the C5 but it's the cup holder doors the one that goes in the center console for some reason the plastic that they use is a rubbery type plastic cuz my Corvette C6 cup holder door broke
As a new C5 owner the first thing I noticed, the lid to the cubby hole in the upper right of the console. Mine is completely broken off laying in the bottom. The passenger door reflector is gone too. Moving to Sarasota in weeks, have to come in see ya.
I have more to add, lol. I am now in FL and have been driving mine about a month now. 1. The large amount of travel between the notches in the tilt steering. Either too high or too low for my stature, the perfect position for me is exactly between the lowest setting and the next higher setting. 2. The infamous GM sagging headliner. My targa top is the solid one with a headliner and of course being a GM car the headliner is coming unglued which causes ME to come unglued. A can of 3M Super 77 fixed that.
There is a company that makes those door clips with stronger clips that are guaranteed not to break off if you have to take them off and put them back on constantly.

Lyle: I think the most annoying is the driver's side seatbelt female receiver on the right sider of the driver attached to the center console. That thing needs to be longer.
The passenger air vent grille on the left does not adjust upward and just blows air in the passenger' face. It will adjust down a little, but that's useless for A/C. 2003 50th Anniversary.
I haven't used the glove box for years on my 02, important plastic pieces were shot. The front that comes down when you open it has been screwed shut. There was nothing that I could buy to be able to keep using it.
Must annoying thing is that every time I give the car gas my driver seat moves back. Friends have same issue. I hear that it is a pain in the butt repair.
It really isn't bad. We make the custom inserts that solve the issue and have a how-to video on our channel. Once the seat is out it takes about 30 minutes to install the anti-rock inserts. Not bad at all. Lyle
I need a new temp sensor cover so I will be ordering one soon! It hasn’t happened to me since I don’t have stock seats, but I know the plastic seat release behind the headrest is a normal failure part. And who the heck designed the hinge for the center console lid!?😂
Funny I lost my plugs and my left door I noticed they were beginning to pop out and I kept trying to push him back in and the next day they were gone very annoying. What I did with the new plug is I put just a little bit of glue just a little bit of gorilla glue just a little just to be sure they don't fall out again
Lyle love your videos…agree with all the items you mentioned. For myself it’s the factory radio surround…wish the C5 had come with a double din from the factory. Which aftermarket radio surround would you recommend? (And does it match the OEM finish and texture? Another source of frustration is the crappy leather that GM used on the seats…do you know of anyone who sells a replacement seat upholstery upper for the drivers side? (Black Sport seat) and or a HUD bezel? Something slightly larger than the OEM part that could go on like a cap? Thanks in advance.
Just picked up my C 5 corvette used too right hand corner from life over radio does not flip in little space tried taking all screws out in lighter compartment and door with vent in it off to move over but still does not flip in place
The torque tube can cause the symptom you are describing. Best thing to do is to get the car in the air and listen to the tube itself with the car idling using a mechanic's stethoscope--that will tell the tale! Lyle
Love your vlog. It’s very informative and you make it easy to understand. I would like to know if you sell the shirts that you wear when you do your vlogs. If it’s possible to purchase one of your company shirts?
These are all easily solved problems. I want an Electronic Brake Control Module that is: 1. New 2. Not $2800 3. Available. Although mine is working, if it poops the bed, I’ll be in trouble.
The drink holder has got to be the worst of any other car. Recently bought a couple drink of holders with 2 large pouches and it slides up under console at the top to hold it in place. Love it

I guess that's why one of the previous owners of my C5 Convertible chose to mount a master cut-off switch in there. Makes it at least somewhat usable.

This probably may be a bit off topic, but it would be interesting to compare interior issues with other Brands of Sports Cars .
Is the Interior, say of a 20yr old Porsche or Ferrari that much better and does it justify the multiple of asking price?

What I did with the new plug is I put just a little bit of glue just a little bit of gorilla glue just a little just to be sure they don't fall out again
Luckily I've never had any of these things break on '04, crap, I probably shouldn't of said that, it has less that 50k miles on it tho
***grins knowingly*** Tick-tock, my friend, tick-tock.... :) Lyle
A couple online retailers sell retrofit kits that over lay over the HUD bezels.
check with the company "The Seat Shop"
Just picked up my C 5 corvette used too right hand corner from life over radio does not flip in little space tried taking all screws out in lighter compartment and door with vent in it off to move over but still does not flip in place
intermittent idle vibration sometimes worse than others. Vibration dampner looks goog( runs true). Your opinion..do you think drivline rubber couplings going bad? Thanks Lyle
The torque tube can cause the symptom you are describing. Best thing to do is to get the car in the air and listen to the tube itself with the car idling using a mechanic's stethoscope--that will tell the tale! Lyle
Multifunction switch issues with lights and where to find
Center console hinge. Glove box lock and hinge
What about the multi function light switch, I would like a new one not a used one.
Do you have windshield upper gasket. I've had them all you spoke about
Love your vlog. It’s very informative and you make it easy to understand.
I would like to know if you sell the shirts that you wear when you do your vlogs.
If it’s possible to purchase one of your company shirts?
What size are you, Tom? I'll see what we have.... Lyle
How about the tuning knobs on the radio. Mine are cracked and falling off.
Thank you Lyle, great video. Two out of five, lol. Seats are very poor quality as I'm sure you know.
The cup holder
How about the the right hand side corner of the bezel around radio, it sticks out how do you fix it?
These are all easily solved problems. I want an Electronic Brake Control Module that is: 1. New 2. Not $2800 3. Available. Although mine is working, if it poops the bed, I’ll be in trouble.
I just had my glove box latch break off in my hand. Do you have a replacement tab so I can put the lock tumbler in?
Having been looking for sub 10k vette many have all 5 of these missing or broken
