In Poland, ice cream company Algida used song Played-A-Live in their TV commercial, therefore many people in Poland know it as "Algida song".

Such a nostalgic track, everytime i hear it i get flashbacks from the year 2000. I think the best version is the Airscape remix followed by the Tandu remix. I think however Safri Duos best track is the follow up Samb Adagio. I would love to hear an interview about that track as well. Also their remix of Marc Et claude - Tremble is really cool (wish there was a dub version tho)

I've always wondered why this song has such horrific production quality. There must be a very specific and niche reason that the audio sounds so clippy and distorted and horribly mixed. His other songs prove that he knew what he was doing, so why does it sound like he recorded it by playing it through a boom box and a recording with a portable recorder? It's a bit mind blowing that my comment is the only one asking this, since the horrible audio quality is the first thing that stands out when listening to the song. It's such a great song too, which makes it extra annoying that I feel like my speakers are breaking when it plays.
Edit: the bits about the live play seem to give clues, but I'm still confused about why the recording quality is so bad. Did they record audio through speakers at a live venue instead of using Midi or a direct line for everything or what? The more you think about it, the weirder it is. I was hoping this interview would have cleared things up but it didn't.

I will have to add a few comments to how this song came along.
I have heard many years ago, that Safri Duo wére inspired by SING SING SING (Benny Goodman / Gene Krupa), and I can also hear similarities from the 1959 melody BONGO ROCK by Preston Ebbs. Take a listen yourself . ruclips.net/video/FBZJlVeEVeI/видео.html

Great interview! Thank you for this. I loved this song when it came out, I was a fan in Canada. I still have the Episode II album on CD. I love hearing about the creative process that goes into creating the tracks and what it's like to experience the success from their side. I'd love to see interviews for anything related to ATB, Vengaboys, or Culture Beat (Mr. Vain, Crying in the Rain, and Inside Out were my favorites), they were my favorite groups from the 90s.

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the interview! I already requested an interview with ATB, but unfortunately I got a “no”…. Same with Wessel van Diepen from the Vengaboys, he loves the channel and we email every once in a while, but he doesn’t do any interviews unfortunately. And I’m a huge fan of Culture Beat as well, but as you might know their producer / founder Torsten Fenslau sadly died in a car crash in 1993. Working on some other 90s related things for 2024 though!
