For some reason I find this song/segment touching on an emotional level. Especially when the song intensifies as Buriki Daioh/Steel Titan's eyes light up and start making the room shake as it is powering up. I don't know how to describe it better as "The hero has come to save the day from evil." Maybe I am being childish.
Not really. This is one of the last remnants of old school anime before everything became isekai and harem. It captures a lot of the stuff that made the old school stuff legendary. If anything, it just makes me disappointed how far modern stuff has veered off course.
@@IAmTheHeroOfLight I only recently have been starting to watch anime after having ignored it for a long time because I had plenty of West made media to watch, read, and play. But being rather burned out by a lot of current day Western media, I have started to check out older productions as well as media from other countries including Anime. Some of the shows and series I started to check out was a lot of anime that was older but had a good reputation or feedback in the community such as 'real robot shows' like Armored Trooper Votoms and old sci-fi anime such as Space Cobra. Both which 80s series despite their flaws I still enjoyed because of their themes and visuals. I ignored super robot shows however as I had the idea that I would be too old for that, such shows being more intended for children when I want to watch something with a bit more depth to it. But the Near Future segment in LAL and especially the Buriki Daioh segment reminded me of the 'feel good' moments I used to have when watching older shows and movies about superheroes or heroes greater than life. It is not so much around any more in shows these days as it has become so much about deconstruction and subverting expectations. I thought I would sound childish for enjoying something perhaps simplistic but optimistic. Being 'late to the game' so to speak, I have not experienced this shift in anime genres but it is a shame that something with the super robot theme like in the LAL Near Future segment is not around any more or only rarely. I myself have experience that feels somewhat the same regarding disappointment but with science fiction shows and movies, a lot of them no longer feeling what made science fiction once so enjoyable.
@@TheDutchGhost I agree with most of the science fiction stuff leaving things to be desired. Good mecha is really hard to find nowadays, and my best example of that is the new Gundam, Witch from Mercury. Red flags were all over that show, and everyone has only been vindicated as it progressed. In terms of retro stuff, I want to check out the old Harlock stuff, but I haven't really had the time. I doubt I will watch everything as it is a pretty extensive universe with multiple tie-ins.
@@IAmTheHeroOfLight I used to love science fiction that was all about space exploration and characters encountering mysteries. Action stories were okay but that did not always needed to be the main focus. I don't like franchises like the big ones any more who are just about reusing their own old lore and doing stories that barely feel science fiction any more. I also have a very big backlist of anime series and movies which I am not sure if I will ever be able to watch all of these as there are also many books and comics I want to read. And next to that I also have a lot of personal projects and goals I want to accomplish. I checked some of Captain Harlock but that was mostly the manga. Do you think if there is still room for this type of old theme anime? A heroic pilot and their giant robot that fight evil and save the day? I guess it is a bit superhero-ish but I like to think it is still sufficient different from superheroes as I do have become tired of them. Regarding Live A Live. I did not play the original even if I knew of the translation years ago. It was on my 'to-do' list but I never came to it. That is why I am glad a remake was made as it gave me a chance to finally play the game. It along with Chrono Trigger is now my favorite of the Square (Enix) games. I want to get into the Front Mission series but that will take time (I like Front Mission Gun Hazard though. Wish it also gets a remake), as well as Super Mario RPG. I don't care much for the Final Fantasy series or a lot of Enix's licenses. Since playing LAL I have been playing with ideas for a LAL2, mostly as a fan fiction exercise though I would love to do something in RPG maker if I could ever learn it. No idea for a chapter with big robots yet, I probably would do something with military mechs instead if I can come up with an idea. Using some of the suggestions of the original director/designer I have been using some of my favorite comic and other story series as a source of inspiration such as Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane, and for any future chapter, Ender's Game, the Forever War, and the Revelation Space books.
@@TheDutchGhost With the way the world economies are going right now, there is no telling who is still going to be standing at the end. It would be nice for some of these to pull through. As for Front Mission, I did get the first one, but I haven't played it yet. I know they are porting the second one, so I need to look into that one too before they become super rare. I would like to see a Chrono Trigger port that may revitalize the series, because I was not interested in Chrono Cross's port at all. I have both of them on PS1, but I would prefer a console version of Trigger with better load times. I've never really been interested in making my own game. There are a lot of different ones out there, and we are only just now getting some of the ones that never crossed the ocean. There are probably enough games for me to spend a decade playing, which is something I plan to take advantage of if this all digital future comes to pass.
OH HELL YEAH !! Akira's story is my favorite and i remember playing the OG live a live as a teenager and to see this anime sequence in the remake?!? Masterpiece + Chef's kiss, truly!!
the part of the opening that shows the Villains of the chapter was also a huge foreshadowing to the climaxes of the Middle Ages and Final Chapters taking place on a rocky mountain summit with a dark statue with glowing red eyes. as well as where Odeo and the other chapter bosses really came from. - red skies with lightning crashing around a tall rocky mountain = Orested becoming Odio at the summit of the Archon's Roost, The Lord of Dark's Lair with lighting crashing and the skies turning red to symbolize it. the skies also turn red when the 7 heroes confront him in the final chapter. - the conspirators atop mountain summits = Odio is really a human called Orested who suffered one VERY bad day. - the silhouette of Odeo's statue with glowing red eyes = resembles the Lord of Dark statue on the summit of the Archon's Roost, with its red eyes lighting up when the lightning crashes as Orested becomes Odio. as well as resembling Odio's cloaked form when the 7 heroes first confront him in the final chapter
i LOVE the power fantasy of this chapter, the Steel Titan ABSOLUTLEY DOMINATES Odio, i feel too many missed the point of this part of the game, your MEANT to be insanely overpowered here, its to show that Odio is NOT invincible, no matter how powerless you feel that menace that seemingly loves to torture humanity does NOT get to do that here. This chapters entire point is to fill you, the player with hope that you can stop it for good eventually.
It is possible that each character is supposed to embrace an emotion or idea to counteract Odio's hate. The caveman would be love, the ninja would be honor/loyalty, and so on. While most of the other heroes fight in solitude, Akira brings the whole group against his Odio.
@@IAmTheHeroOfLight never thought to look at it like that, that would explain why everyone in the true final chapter is out of their time, pulled to Odios true form and location.

Makes me wonder why they haven't made this game into an anime ?
Full 90s anime.
