Sometimes there's always been Characters who just like Akira go straight the point having enough to quickly Snaps having to go that hard on others up like they've had enough with the Pity Partying and it's time for them to Wake Up, Get a holding grip yourself over it, and just learn to Move on from it.
Akira: "LISTEN HERE FUCKER-" Oersted: *[becomes the Dark Lord Again]* *_"No, YOU listen here fucker-!"_* _-(Akira then learned that sometimes being too direct is the worst path to take...)-_
I like how there's actually all ranges of reactions. It's not all just pats in the back or words for wisdom. Akira giving it straight to the head, essentially saying "I you judge others at their worse then you're just as low as everyone else". In stark contrast to Pogo's warm hug.
Masaru: You let the pursuit of power consume you. Sundown: You pushed away those who would have taken you in. Oboro: You struck down those who would have shown you mercy. Yun: You rejected the choices that could have helped you. Lei: I was like you once, but now I'm walking a slow & difficult path to change myself. Hong: Using violence to solve violence changes nothing. Akira: Yeah, we suck, but using that to justify your actions is unacceptable! Pogo: (You did bad, but me love you. You not alone now.) Cube: [I will remember you. Let these flowers become a reminder that someone acknowledged your existence.]
@@Teachermook I wasn't expecting this kind of praise, but thank you. I had to listen to each character's speeches multiple times to understand what they needed Ostred to hear.
Pogo - Love The master's heirs - Perseverance Oboromaru - Faith Sundown - Company Masaru - Self overcoming Akira - Friendship Cube - Understanding All human's virtues to defeat and overcome hatred and what make us humans
@@iss2681I'd say it makes any People or every Living Being Human or not, beyond a lot more than Humanizing, it's gratefully enlightening for all together.
@Xifihas That is a good point, especially with two occasions on how Akira represents Responsibility: 1. Where early on the Near Future level, he did told his sister, Kaori, that he is going to fix what he started. 2. Where after Oersted has redeemed himself by slaying Odio once and for all, Akira calls him out on how he committed all of the atrocities across time because others have ostracized him, viewing it as an excuse. He's not wrong in that remark, either.
Pogo's is the best one in my opinion. A simple hug. Just a hug. He gave Oersted something he'd had taken away from him for so very long; Human warmth. In the final moments of his life, for just a second, he was given love, care, acceptance, and forgiveness from such a simple gesture. ALL of these endings are good, but Pogo is the only one that made me cry. Once upon a time, I lived a life where I couldn't even accept human warmth. I was a hurt, traumatized, defensive, and generally angry/sad creature who pushed everyone away because with everything I'd gone through, just the idea of letting someone close enough to hurt me again was so damn scary that I preemptively kept it from happening. I made a friend after a few years who basically was the equivalent of Pogo in that they gave me a simple understanding and love that I hadn't allowed myself... I cannot describe just how healing it was to have something like that. Oersted's stunned response just shows how powerful something so simple really is. Just a hug. A wordless gesture. Never, ever forget how strongly small things can affect someone.
Akira is a close second for me. It was VERY clear that Akira's and Oersted's trajectories in life were similar to each other. The difference here is Akira doesn't blame others for his own misfortune and used his anger to do good. Oersted, meanwhile, surrendered to his weakness and went on a rampage. For this reason alone I was happy to choose Akira as my final chapter protagonist. The first time I saw that ending I realized I made the right choice.
I was gonna say something very similar. What’s more, Pogo is a child, from a primordial time. No language, no wealth, no laws. His life was spent simply hunting, eating, sleeping, and seeking a partner to continue his species. Yet here he is, thrust into another world, seeing bizarre people, grotesque creatures, and being forced to combat cosmic evil. Yet when he sees his would-be killer before him, wounded, speaking a tongue that has no bearing on him, down and defenseless…yet with all that he saw, and what little he could understand…Pogo embraces Oersted. Through all of this chaos, he was able to see Oersted’s suffering, seeing that his kingdom (or pack in this case) has rejected him and deprived him of love or empathy, he gives Oersted what he was robbed of for eternity, before allowing Oersted to pass on, in the presence of someone who would still offer him human compassion after his atrocities. Even without dialogue from Pogo, there is absolute raw emotion on display here and it is beautiful.
What’s even more impactful; the word for “love” in Japanese is “ai”, which is what he shouts here, as well as in the ending of his own scenario. The first word he (and by extension other humans) learned was “love”, and he expresses it here to someone who lost that feeling in their life.
I can't really choose a favorite here. Sundown is awesome in basically every scene and line he has. Lei's self-reflection goes pretty hard. Pogo probably doesn't understand a thing about what's going on, but he can recognize what this poor dying man desperately needed. That's great.
Coming back to this because I thought some more about Cube's scene. It's been said in the comments here as a joke, but I think this unironically: Cube isn't giving flowers just as a gift, but as an offering for what will soon be Oersted's grave. Cube has watched 2 (3 if you catch OD-10 turning off Rachel's life-support) different people die in his chapter. He can tell Oersted is not getting back up.
I offer Akira as a best choice. He has a similar hard-knock life as Oersted, but he managed to be far more heroic even when everyone around him reviled him as a punk. That anger he had over Oersted making excuses for his actions was justified. Bro don't get to pull a Woe Is Me card after committing genocide.
"The Civilized Man is more dangerous than the Neanderthal, because the Neanderthal knows that if he pushes his luck too far, he's going to get a club through his skull." - Anonymous(?) The fact that Pogo went up and hugged that poor, broken man; and in doing so defied that above quote so beautifully; that right there is a total tear--jerker. Not sure if it's more heart _warming_ or heart _wrenching;_ you could make an argument for either, I think.
I liked Pogo and Cube's interaction with Oerstead by performing simple gestures due to their inabily to properly speak Pogo showed genuine love by hugging him, something Oerstead should've got but never did throughout his journey Cube gave a Oerstead flowers as sign of kindness, something he never got outside of uranus' optimism
Pogo's is by far the best. A gesture so simple and straight to the point. He actually hugs Oerstead. No need for words. Love (or Aiee!!!) conquers all.
Pogo almost made me cry. Maybe it's a cliche where the antagonist only needs a hug, but as a player of the SNES version, I really needed something like that for Oerstedd. I kinda felt like him back in the edgy ass days, and found my way back in a similar way. I know it's a nerd comparison, but I've always liked the way he reflects on what the other protagonists show him.
Oersted's voice actor is so fucking GOOD with the emotional delivery that I can see moments that the sprites don't even reflect. Him just going stock still processing the fact that Pogo is hugging him, then the emotional dam he built around his heart just breaking entirely and collapsing to the floor as he's realizing that despite everything, despite all that he's put them all through, there are STILL those who would show him any sympathy. Besides Hong's, it's the only time I can imagine him breaking down into a crying fit between scenes and have it be completely natural.
@@galaxycamerata Yeah, Oersted's VA is phenomenal! I can visualize his face moment-by-moment after Pogo hugged him - which is impressive, since the sprite doesn't even include his face (and he only moved once). His lines don't feel like _lines_ - he starts a line with one inflection and ends it with a slightly different one. Seriously, they're so... I can't think of a fitting word other than "dynamic" or "smooth".
Pogo is probably my favorite, just showing simple pity and love towards a man who was broken beyond and giving him something to remember in his final goodbye
Akira letting Oersted go in the end shows his growth really well. At one point he was just some shithead kid who started street fights and got other orphans to steal stuff for him. His anger and hate were even his greatest weapon against the conspirators during his chapter. I legitimately hated this guy when I played Near Future, and I picked him as my endgame protag mostly as a joke. But during this ending, he consistently fought the urge to kill Oersted, showing him mercy as per the true ending requirements. Even when Akira gets his time for a speech by holding the guy up by the scruff of his collar, this shines through. He slowly breathes to calm himself down, you can hear in the voice performance how he's holding back somewhat, then he lets the man who destroyed his life out of his grasp before deciding to land the killing blow on Odio with his words rather than his fists. This subtle bout of characterization said more in one chapter and a couple lines sprinkled here or there than most games will say about protagonists who stick around for 100 hours of gameplay. It's why Akira went from being my least favorite LAL protag to my favorite video game character.
Yet Akira is still worst out of all character and he still was wrong when he say that it was Oersted's fault even thow he can read minds on the trial of heart and it was all Strawboys falut for manipulate everyone and ruin everyones lives
@@denysvision Being hurt by someone, even someone you trusted, doesn't justify or absolve you of your choices. What Streighbow did was wretched, but Oersted still made a choice that hurt a lot of people. People that had nothing to do with his suffering and were just trying to live their lives. Oersted had the power to stop all of this before it ever started, yet he chose to lash out without a thought for the consequences.
@@denysvision too common thought in today's youth. You need to realise people have different perceptions and try to understand each other and why they would think in that way.
I love the calm, steady nature of the speeches. The pauses in the dialogue to advance the text feel almost natural since they know they'll only get one chance to say this. They're taking time to gather their thoughts
I feel like a big part of what redeems Oersted is that everyone here would have died anyways, if he didn't come in clutch at the last moment to finish with renewed hope what he began in his despair. It shows that in the end, had anyone reached out to him, none of this would have happened. People reached out to him WELL past what should have been the point of no return, and still he answered when he had nothing left to lose since literal ages ago... The call was still enough to bring his spirit back to what it once had been.
This is so beautiful. Each in its own way. The remake's final heart-to-hearts with Oersted are something special. A good way to finish his story, too. Also, Pogo is the king in giving hugs. A truly underappreciated quality.
I personally love what they did with Akira's take. Sure he has every right to tear Oersted a new one, satisfying even, but with that little breath he took beforehand, it makes it feel like Akira understood had things been different, he and the others could've very easily ended up just like Oersted. Heck, Akira almost did if Matsu didn't stop him after the boss fight with Watanabe. In that moment, he wasn't just berating Oersted for giving in to hate; He was also indirectly chastising himself for very nearly going down that same path.
His psychic ability likley grants him insights into all the heroes present including Oersted, so it's no wonder he's so well aware of how close each came to giving in to hate and despair.
I think the thing with Akira’s bit is that… well, sure, Oersted’s actions past Streibough’s death were all entirely his own, but the world didn’t exactly leave him with much of a choice. By the time he’s presented with the opportunity to become the Lord of Dark, he has one of two general options: take up the mantle and go full evil, or refuse and either live out a hollow life alone and on the run, or just straight-up kill himself. With the royal family and all the other heroes dead, it’d take a goddamn miracle for his name to be cleared within Lucrece, and it wouldn’t be long before more hot-blooded teenagers would start coming after him. If Oersted refuses to become the Lord of Dark, the best he can hope for is that Lucrece’s search parties never find him and that he gets the chance to live out the rest of his years surviving on his own… which isn’t really much of a life at all. But Oersted couldn’t refuse taking up the mantle because of the simple fact that he’s a passionate shonen protagonist living in the wrong genre. Simply laying down his arms and accepting a peaceful life when he still has so much energy to spend isn’t possible for him. If he doesn’t vent, he’ll self-destruct. Not to mention that at this point, he’s desperate for satisfaction after having it ripped away from him so many times; and the only thing that will satisfy him now will be the knowledge that all his suffering meant _something - ANYTHING._ But the only real way for it to mean something… is for him to become the Lord of Dark. Honestly, Oersted’s story just pisses me off something fierce. He got to be the unlucky shmuck that the world decided to doom for shits and giggles, and when it made him lash out in the only way he knew how, it kicked him in the dick and told him off for not being smart enough to self-reflect at any point in his life when he was never given a suitably convincing reason to do so until it was too late. Just… fuck, man. If anything, Streibough’s the one who deserves to burn in hell.
Oersted brought all of it, ALL of it, on himself by not caring for anyone else. He had no right to complain when everything came crashing down. That's what happens when you build yourself on a foundation of BS. I am NOT saying he deserved it, but he DID earn it, by refusing to allow Streighbough that ONE victory. He NEVER let anyone else beat him. He's much more like Gaston than Prince Charming.
@@corjonbett It's pretty clear that if he'd tried to throw the fight - and trash his own honor - Streibough would have probably just straight killed him in the process. Streibough clearly was the sort of man who'd do anything to get what he wants. He was a lunatic.
it's notable that while alethea regrets what she did and said, streighbough outright REFUSES to acknowledge his own fault and just spends his afterlife in denial, cause even in death he jsut cannot accept that HE might be the asshole
5:12 I can swear those words where Hasshe's last words before passing. Very nice touch. And maybe the only ending where Oersted quotes his own past directly.
Masaru: Eventually your body will fail you. You have to keep your spirit strong. Sundown: No matter how much you think you're best off alone, you need a few people in your life. Oborumaru: Sometimes, you have to take a chance on people. Just because you can take a life doesn't necessarily mean you should. Yun: Don't hold yourself to impossible standards. Lei: It's easy to become bitter. Strive to be better. Even if you fail to achieve your goals, you can still grow from your efforts. Hong: People can give you crap, and it's fair to want to see them suffer, but you shouldn't stoop to their level. Be better. Akira: Take responsibility for your actions! Yeah, people suck, that's no excuse to make things worse! Find the good in people, no matter how hard it is. Pogo: Keep things simple. Sometimes all you need is a hug. Cube: Love can come from the strangest places. That doesn't make it any less valid.
This is why I love the English voices. They put a lot of emotion into their performances. Oersted really sells it when he loses everything. Sure, some of it is really cheesy, but that adds a lot of charm.
Lei and Pogo's are my favorite ones. The protagonist to villain vs villain to protagonist duality is really good. And Pogo's case shows that sometimes, the smallest of gestures like reaching a hand may be enough to prevent the darkest spirals of a sinking heart.
Akira’s speech made me consider something. Unlike the other incarnations of Odio, either active threats or direct orchestrators of carnage… Odeo itself was more of an end goal. An excuse for three men to arrange the kidnapping and liquefaction of over 2000 unwilling humans, and call themselves anything other than sociopathic monsters. Something to blame for their sins other than themselves. So of course Akira wouldn’t have any patience for Oersted doing something similar.
I'm pretty sure Odeo was actively influencing at least the cult leader through the birds, but the general and scientist on the other hand is a different story.
You also have to put it in perspective. No one really got hurt as much by their respective incarnation as Akira. Odo was just a random T-Rex Pogo only fought because the altar broke and he landed in his pit. The Earthen Heart Master may have lost his fellow students, but this was settled with Wan Lees death. Same goes with Masaru. O. Dio was just a random crazy gunman, something Sundown would have met dozens of times before. Ode Iou was also just one of many warlords Oboromaru had to kill for a mission. And while Cube lost his fellow crew members to OD-10, he, by his limitations does not process the concept of grief or need to avenge. Akira, on the other hand..... lost his father thanks to the conspiracy..... lost his best friend and paragon while trying to combat it.... has seen what they did to Watanabes dad (and while he does push him around, he still cares about him, as it is implied he never told Watanabe of this gruesome fate)... would have almost lost his little sister and the woman who took care of him.... and has seen his home almost burned to the ground.... Everything bad in his life is linked to this conspiracy, so seeing the one, who create the reason for all this in the first place, of course he would be pissed.
@@aureliodeprimus8018 honestly this makes what Akira says to Oersted way more justifiable since what he says to him is completely wrong, sure Oersted did ultimately decide to become Odio but that wouldn’t have happened if Streighbough didn’t betray him, since that’s what caused the events that lead to his downfall in the first place
@@epicalexfurry4377 Yes, but the point is, that Oersted, instead of thinking: "Yeah, Streibough ruined everything. Time to go away and start anew.", blamed basically everyone and let his frustration out on everyone. And as you said it "He decided to become Odio". Everything that happened to him was Streiboughs fault, but every thing after Streiboughs death is Oersteds decision. Oersted could have simply went to Hasshes hut and lived out his life there. He could have walked away and let everything behind him. But he chose to blame everyone for what happened to him. This is what Akira said. You cannot control the people around you, but you are responsible of how you deal with it. Akira chose to simply accept the hand life dealt him and move on. While Oersted basically threw everything Hasshe and Uranus told him to the wind.
lei's is probably the most notable in terms of how her statement relates to her character. she was a BANDIT, remember, she made a living off of hurting people. She cna relate to oersted cause she's BEEN there. She only got out of the darkness after finding a wise and kind mentor and loyal friends, all of whom she had lost, but unlike him didn't fall back to her bad path. Out of everyone, she understands the tragedy of oersted best, after all...that could be her standing there.
Hong practically never gets chosen, which means very few people would get to see his ending organically. A shame, because it's genuinely amazing in its simplicity. In one swift movement, Oersted acknowledges how he fell and indirectly teaches the player a very simple lesson about hatred. And then we get to see him take one more moment to mourn it all. "T'was in fear and ignorance they struck. But I, in bitterness and spite."
Masaru: True strength is from the heart! Sundown: Friendship is magic. Oboro: Violence isn't always the answer. Yun: I was a coward, but I found courage. Lei: I was like you once... Hong: People bully me, but I learned to stand up for myself. Akira: EVERYTHING WAS YOUR OWN G*D D**N FAULT, STOP BLAMING OTHERS!!! Pogo: BIG HUG! Cube: I am more then a robot.
Akira's is real good, and I like how Lei's speech is awkward and kind of trails off at the end. She's still not good at the whole talking and kindness thing but she's trying.
Cube’s actions shows either that life finds a way back to you or that when comes creation, it’s an opportunity for growth. Masaru, my man, I like his speech, it’s like a coach speaking to you for a fighting match, and Sundown Kid’s speech is like if you’re far from home and kind of want to go home.
That’s a fair assessment of Lei’s speech. I much prefer it to the 1994 fan translation, where a similar message of perseverance lacked any uncertainty… and just smacked of dramatic irony, given how much Oersted really _did_ persevere.
@@zerofichas6963 it's a preference honestly. I prefer Lei's dialogue over Yun or Sammo, but they both have their right to exist with their opinion and what they went through. Also because having Lei be like Oersted and with her master allowing herself to change is making this duality stronger, that because Oersted didn't had someone like Lei's master he broke from the injustice and deceit on his end.
Akira got it the worst of all the seven heroes. He saw friends and loved ones die because of Odio. Thousands of kids got fucking LIQUIFIED because of Odio. Out of all of them, Akira had the most right to be pissed.
@@ChrisBabaganoosh in defence of Odeo, he wasn’t actually alive until after all the death happened, it was his worshippers that did all that. While the name of Odio did the most damage to Akira, Odio himself did the least.
@@ChrisBabaganoosh I believe the Successor had the worst life. Akira's dad was murdered at a young age yes, but Akira still gets to grow up under the love and care of an orphanage family AND still has his little sister. The successors are all thieves out of necessity just to survive, and aside from Yun, none of them have family, and there's no telling how long it's been that way. Then a kind master takes them in and under his guidance they slowly become better people and form the closet thing they can call family. And we know how well that goes...

I was wondering how they'd handle the mute characters for this scene, what a pleasant surprise, I think Cube and Pogo have some of my favorites. Lei's was quite nice as well. I played as Akira for this part, I think he was kinda harsh to Oersted, but he does bring up a good point.
@@denysvision In the end, it really WAS. Oersted was the one whose heart was weak. Never blame the people who made them snap, the final choice is always on them... But seriously, Akira's a punk and a brat, he has no sympathy for anyone.
Akira actually lost the most to Odio's wrath, so, it makes sense when you think about it. Pogo, Oboromaru, & Sundown were thankfully able to protect what was precious to them before Odio's influence could take anything away. Masaru lost his respected rivals, but fought to honor their strengths & memory. The Disciple had already lost everything once before, only to lose everything again after the Earthen Heart Master took them in, but not before the Master was able to put them on the right path. Cube lost all that he could call family, but is still too young/underdeveloped to actually feel hate or a need for revenge. But Akira? He lost his father to the conspiracy of Odeo, he lost his mentor & new father figure in the fight to stop Odeo, the heads of the conspiracy almost took away his sister & home, too. Akira was the most hurt by Odio, s actually showing restraint in not resorting to violence shows even more development for Akira.
When I saw Oersted's response to Oboromaru, I was pretty upset to hear he'd forgotten Uranus's name. He WAS Oersted's last friend FFS. Hong getting him to cry was surprising, as was Akira NOT decking him. Cube's ending was just so wholesome.
I think him forgetting Uranus was meant to show just how far gone he was in that part of his development. At the time, he didn't care about the old man or whatever he was saying, he only cared about getting revenge on the people who he felt turned on him.
Pogo is the best one for sure. As the villain, Oersted spent all his time ranting about how selfishness and violence are human instinct. Pogo, though, is all instinct. He can't possibly understand what Oersted went through. All he knows is that a weird-sounding stranger tried to kill him and his friends multiple times. Hell, his first impression of Oersted is the scent of a nasty, malicious monster, detectable even from literally the other side of the kingdom. Out of all the heroes, he has the least reason to show sympathy. But he does. With one hug, he completely destroys any argument Oersted could make, faster than any speech could. Because he finally sees that for all our faults, humanity's most fundamental instinct is to love and comfort the lost, the wounded, the broken. It is, perhaps, our greatest quality.
It's interesting that everybody has a moment before they actually talk like they're trying to think of what would be best to say. It's such a nice touch of reality, you don't always know what to say unless you actually think about it. Then you have both Pogo and Cube who just do what is natural to them they don't need to think they know what needs to be done.
Masaru: You overdid it Sundown: You need other people Oboro: Violence is wrong Yun: You pushed yourself past your limit Lei: I was like you, but I changed Hong: I was almost like you, but I didn't give in Akira: b***h slap Pogo: Certified Bruh Moment Cube: You're on your own
The First (Pogo), A Successor (Lei, Jun or Hong), An Infiltrator (Oboromaru), A Wanderer (The Sundown Kid), The Strongest (Masaru), An Outsider (Akira Tadokoro) and The Mechanical Heart (Cube) taught The Lord of Dark (Oersted) not just to feel love again but also the one thing that keeps others going... Humanity.
pogo ending really hit me where i live, at some point you probably have felt like Oersted (well not to the point going genocidal lol) but dissapointed, like no one its with you, inmense pain, sadness, all that negativiy, and then someone hug you, and suddenly you break, like you have been supported a lot of weight and you are getting weak, but someone come and help you to hold such weight while you feel relief, and then everything changes with just simple but effective gesture. i have been in that spot and thats why this hits me, and even the broken voice of orested after being hug felt real. awesome game without doubt.
People dunk on Akira for how straightforward he was to Oersted but… it’s probably the best medicine that could be given. Oersted redeemed himself, but someone needs to remember the reality of the situation, Akira chooses to be that person. All of this happened because Oersted judged others by their worst sides, he expected forgiveness but it was an excuse to not face the problem. And that lead to him becoming Odio. It’s what happened to Lawless due to killing Akira’s father, and it lead to his own death. Excuses destroy more things in the universe then weapons and war ever could, so we all need someone to pull us away from them and talk straight to us. Akira chose to be so for Oersted in his final moments, a choice with resolve behind it as it’s for the person who is the strongest incarnation of Hate in all times, to pull them out of it and give them a clear view forward, even if it’s just for their last moments.
Oooh, if I have to pick a favourite... I'd definitely say that Oborumaru is one of my favourite speeches, as well as the 3 disciples (Hong's is especially adorable, but also something I can relate to...), Cube and Pogo were just adorable... Oersted never asked to be treated as a villain to begin with. I'm not saying Oersted did nothing wrong. He did do a ton of bad things through his Incarnations, but I felt really bad for him when people thought he killed the king on purpose because of his so called "best friend's" petty jealousy and when Alethia killed herself out of spite. For me Lei was my favorite for two reasons, 1 Being we saw her flaws when we met her, and we saw her grow along with understanding Oersted. Their parallels made their interaction the most poetic and meaningful to me. 2nd Is that none of the others feels like they have that deep rooted similarity that she shares. True they see elements they recognize in Oersted but I felt like Lei had the most complete picture out of them all. Side Note: I find her the best leader since she starts at the top of the Hero's Mountain as the extra symbolism for Oersted's story and their similarities converging.
I like how everyone's speeches has their own points. Even Akira's has a point of its own as well, as not all people who came from terrible pasts turn out to be monsters in the end. It is ultimately down to the both the actions of the person and the circumstances they have been when it comes to shaping the character they themself will have in the end. One guy can come out as a good person despite their history of being abused or whatever, but another can come out as a bad one because of the same past. The same situation can be applied to people with a good past history, as there are bad people who have pasts that lack any bad things done to them that exist. Humanity can suck at times, but they can also do some amazing things. Nobody is black and white here.
As much as Pogo’s hug is well deserved, and the Earthen Heart Masters’ advice is sound and helpful, Akira’s is my personal favourite. At the end of the day, there was no fate, or god, that drove Oersted down this path. He chose it on his own.
Replace fate with destiny and you’d be right. Fate is simple cause and effect. Destiny is fate that has been pre-ordained by a conscious being. Fate dictates everything that happens in the world.
@@lalehiandeity1649 True, but I’ve never personally seen a distinction between the words “fate” and “destiny” myself, hence why I used the former word, rather than the latter. The message would be the same regardless, in my opinion.
Again, straibought was the one who did all of this and drive him taht way, and when the princess killed herself taht was he's last straw, so you can't blame him for choosing taht fate
There was no realistic alternative for Oerstead to choose was the problem after Alethea killed herself. Realistically, the other options were 1. Go back to Lucrece hand yourself in and plead your innocence blah blah blah like Uranus tried and get yourself killed. 2. Or kill yourself in despair like Alethea 3. This would have been best go to another timestream where no one knows who you are and start a brand new life. Unless #3 was possible, I mean there is no other option for Oerstead than be killed or killing himself at the end of Middle ages story.
@@denysvisionYes, but he did have another option. He could’ve simply chosen to isolate himself, much like Hasshe, until the Kingdom realised they were in the wrong.
People think Akira was to harsh which is fair but you have to keep in mind that A. Akira has seen the worst damage odio caused with seeing his dad die in front of him twice, losing his uncle, and seeing thousands get turned into juice to revive odio. And B. Akira is the most like fallen Oersted both saw the worst of humanity with Akira being able to see what people thought of him and Oersted getting fucked 6 ways to Sunday and that made both angry at the world and lassed out and hurt people Akira with his fighting and stealing of money but at the end Akira was able to put his angry aside and be a hero while Oersted became a monster so when he’s yelling at Oersted he’s also yelling at who he could have became if he had no one
In Japanese, ‘Aieee’ means love. After being hugged, Oersted subtly gets startled and says to himself. “A…..” “‘Aieee’(Love), is it?” They tried their best to make it work in English, but Pogo’s hug and Oersted’s reaction to it is much better in Japanese. Anyway, Kudos to the translators tho for making it work in English, too! Well, having said all that, with the English version, I’d have to go with Akira.
As nice as it is that the protags try to cheer up Oersted (well, except Akira)...they were only seeing things from THEIR side of the spectrum, from the side of a hero. They hadn't been in Oersted's shoes. Oersted went through so much shit in just one day. He had his wife kidnapped, he watched a once-beloved hero die, he got tricked into killing his own king and is demonized by the entire kingdom of Lucrece as a result, he lost his only ally left in the form of Uranus, he found out his best friend had been the one behind all this deceit, and finally, after being forced to kill said friend, his love appears and KILLS herself *in front of him*, whether it be from a setup by Streibough (which was implied during the scene) or a false love she had for Oersted. His era was fickle, EXTREMELY fickle; everyone in it relied on him & Hasshe to do all the work in the name of their protection, and when they stopped doing that, they ridiculed & hated the heroes for it, but at least Hasshe took the easy way out by simply leaving the people behind. Oersted? He was LURED into being hated by literally everyone in Lucrece without even being given a chance to explain himself, and considering that other kingdoms may exist & would've heard of the upcoming hero too, rumors of his "demonhood" would've spread to them eventually and cause them to hate Oersted too, especially if they were rival kingdoms. Uranus said that so long as even one person believed in you, you shouldn't lose hope...but sometimes hope is the last thing to die, and in this case, it was literal. As Oersted himself said, he was utterly alone after that: no one to turn to, nothing to fight for, not even anywhere to run...he was trapped. It's no freaking wonder why he turned to ACTUAL demonhood at the end of his story. I can't imagine anyone who would've gone through all that wouldn't. Except...was it really a choice? Oersted had literally nothing left at the end of the day, and if he was going to do SOMETHING, why not getting back at the people who wronged him so? Better than wandering Earth at the mercy of humanity itself. He had all the reason to strike back at humanity, and he certainly couldn't be blamed for becoming Odio. Tl;dr, the protags' words don't ring as true as they think. Sometimes evil DOES win the day, and when it does, the effects are devastating...
Couldn't have said it better myself. There's only so much misfortune one can take before they utterly break or lash back out, and Oersted is a prime example of this.
@@TekkenGirl4Lyfe my uploaded videos are still blocked, lol. I think what changed starting Nov 18 is they allowed screen recording and taking screenshots (on your switch) for the parts where you cant before like the final boss fights, oersted and streighbough ending scenes in middle ages, end credits, etc.
Oersted specifically using the phrase "once upon a time" (13:4815:05) emphasizes how his story was just a fairy tale gone completely wrong. I'm glad that, for the most part, the others chose to show him kindness in the end.
Part 1/3 (other parts in the replies): Thanks for the upload (this is a really neat way to wrap up the game)! I think Yun's speech is my favorite one, because it emphasizes the importance of choice (like Akira's speech), but at the same time it acknowledges the suffer-ing Oersted went through (like Hong's speech) and how it lead him to ha-te (like Lei's speech). It's also the speech that leads Oersted to accurately sum up his whole situation (his other realizations are usually only about one aspect of it): he let himself be defined by the stig-ma caused by Streibough's plot, instead of the giving people the forgive-ness Uranus asked him to.
Part 2/3: In fact, Uranus's last words are surprisingly close to Yun's speech: "They asked...demanded...Se-crets. About you. 'Is he the de-mon prince, or simple pa-wn?'. Such fe-ar, such an-ger I see in their eyes...In gri-ef, their ba-ser nature laid ba-re. Fleeting glimpse of what good Hasshe did ware within. In dark-ness, dare not des-pair. 'Tis a test. Do we surrender to so-rrow and ha-te...Or rise above, and choose instead to trust in one another...I would take the leap. I'd wager life - what little I have left. And plead your inno-cence to all who'll hear. [...] Inherit our cause. Keep the fai-th. For-give". Like Hong made Oersted realize, he did indeed "fail the test": "They wrong-ed me. Wound-ed me. Revenge-d in kind. Nay. Far worse. 'Twas in fe-ar and igno-rance they struck. But I, in bitter-ness and spi-te".
Part 3/3: In the end, I think Yun really was the disciple that most embodied Shifu's wisdom and compassion (he was the only one who decided to stop steal-ing even before Shifu intervened, even with the odds against him), so it's very fitting he'd give the best speech (in my opinion, at least).
Pogo and Akira's are my favorite endings. Akira rightfully kicks Oersted's butt for daring to pull a "Woe Is Me" card after practically committing genocide of the whole kingdom, but Pogo understood he did it out of a misguided need to feel loved and offered him kindness in his last moments alive. Both have their merits, and it's great to see them side by side like this.
I don’t think he ever really tried to pull the woe is me. Like at that point he wasn’t looking for sympathy he was consumed by rage. Akira kinda just kicked a dying man when he was done and already stepped in to help them. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t bad character moment but it showed his immaturity compared to the rest. Which makes sense like oersted akira has quite the anger problem
@@rances4418True like while it was oersted's choice to doom the timelines, akira doesn't know the full context as all he saw was a dude harming the ones who had nothing to do with his downfall. Sure it made sense but it would have been better if akira was like "we had nothing to do with your problems" though tbh akira's response to oersted becoming odio was much more polite compared to what odio did.
@@rances4418 Did you not see when Akira took a moment to do nothing but glare at Oersted? Did you not listen to him taking a few deep breaths before speaking? That barely contained rage in his breath? He UNDERSTOOD that Oersted had helped them all! Considering how Akira behaved against some of the more reviled villains of his timeline, he would've been much, MUCH harsher to Oersted if he simply "kicked a dying man when he was done."
Lei's is my favourite, because of the clear parallels between them, and how she recognizes she's still learning to be better. There's a real kinship there. Akira's is just below that though. He just verbally dismantles every single part of Oersted's twisted way of seeing the world, without sugar coating it. ...And of course, Pogo just giving the man a hug cannot be understated.
I really appreciate how much more in depth these interactions are compared to the original. In the old version, Akira was basically talking out his ass for his ending and quickly became my most disliked. Here he's still a jerk, but at least he's making an effort of choosing a better approach. Cube's is my favorite though, it was pretty uninspired in the original, but they added one new detail that made the biggest impact on me. Cube gives Oersted flowers. And when all the heroes return to their own time, you can see the flowers are still there, effectively leaving them for Oersted's grave. That just means a lot to me man. Lastly I want to give a special mention to Sundown. Not because of what he said, but instead because of Oersted's response.
So Akira's attitude didn't rub you the right way. I can understand it. But I want you to take a moment to consider: Akira and his sister Kaori are orphans after their father's death, with Akira picking fights because he can read how some people may judge him poorly due to his psychic powers, The Crusaders are running a mock, kidnapping 2000 people for 3 sociopathic conspirators to sacrifice for a malevolent god, and Matsu, before his death, stated that all of Japan is in a state of chaos via military grade weapons across thenstreets. And underneath the tough exterior, he is a kind person. He takes care of his sister and the other kids, and while you may think he rubs on Watanabe hard, he does care for him to. I fact, not only do the kids call him big vro, Akira was outraged that Watanabe's father became an LH combat unit, the W1, and he didn't tell the boy, fearing that he's not ready to bear the horrid news.
Damn I found this after I do all the ending by myself lol no one talk about Yun so let me stand up for this boy. His speech hard to understand when compare to the rest so in short he want Oersted to choose his path not let his emotion lead him to the path. he has many path to choose and Oersted let his anger and hate took control of him and go to path of revenge but maybe he can choose other path he can run away just forget this kingdom and go to find something to do, you save your home that something you should proud no matter what other say you are Hero that .But he let his anger and hate blind him for other path that can be choose and that lead to this tragic fate. For me Yun is the the protagonist in his story(dont get me wrong I like other two too but Yun for me he is the protagonist) from the coward boy who dont have any talent to become someone as great as his master his story touch me so much I like scene that he train in midnight because he know he not have talent like other two or when he admit he scare to fight and hid himself make other two die but get his resolve back because he doesn't want to run away anymore.(Not to mention he start as lowest level among three and the speech before fight Odi wan Lee is so cool) Sorry for my broken Eng
@@chayimweinstock443 I found Hong Hakka's most adorable. Even with the amount of power he has at that point, he was still the shy guy even did a 👉👈as he was talking 😄
I feel like these guys don't know what's happening. The problem wasn't himself, the problem was the entire world fucking him over. He can't exactly go back and accept any punishment because he is innocent. They scold him for turning to the dark side (except Pogo and Cube. Those two are too good for this world and they're on opposite ends of the timeline) when it was Straighbough who pushed his ass. He had everything taken away from him, even the woman he loved just gave up on him when he was juggling to prove his innocence. Everything was taken from him because he won a tournament.
@@matthewgagnon9426 Ok, sure, we could do without genocide, but it's not like he could just come back saying "It's all cool guys, the real people are here. They killed themselves." @@daleketchup7434 as much as I support my man Oersted, I think the best end for everyone would be if he pulled a Hash and just left the kingdom and seclude himself, but that would've meant no Odio to fight for the rest.
Watching this through definitely makes me want to play through the final chapter again just to get everyone’s ending. Anyone have any recommendations for how to proceed with seeing each of the individual versions for the Earthen Heart Master?
I redid imperial china chapter then went back to the dominion of hate chapter beginning where you are asked to pick a main hero. Who ever you picked to be the earthen heart shifu on your last imperial china run would be the hero for that chapter.
Seeing this made me decide of interactions with different characters. The Phantom Thieves for example. What kind of dialogue will they have with him if they were in this?
The Phanton Thieves could have change Oersted's heart, but they knew he's gonna die. In his last moments, the Phantom Thieves would tell him they all went through horrible upbringings, but they found love, trust, empathy and rebellion in each other. Though Oersted would find it strange that a team of Robin Hood like thieves would bring peace to society, he still calls it admirable to overcome their pain to save others and make the wrongdoers repent by confessing their sins. They earned Oersted's respect.
@@peternguyen7530 I mean what dialogue would they say to Oersted if they were in it. Like..... Ren/Joker: I know how you feel. I had to move to another town because I did something that was awful. You mean if Streibough were the one who became Odio? Then he won’t have a reason to pull the other 7 heroes to his time since he ends up having the girl he loves.
@@kstudiesdotcomSomething like that. But what I meant is what they would say to Streibough after learning the truth of what he did while Orsted was still Odio. Besides, Streibough is the most hated character I've ever seen. In a way, he's similar to Kain Highwind from FFIV. Yes, both men were jealous of the Protagonists because they got the girls in the end. But at least Kain took responsibility for his actions, Streibough didn't.

All human's virtues to defeat and overcome hatred and what make us humans
@@iss2681I'd say it makes any People or every Living Being Human or not, beyond a lot more than Humanizing, it's gratefully enlightening for all together.
7 virtues to destroy 7 vices.
I'd say Akira isn't Endurance, but Responsibility. Akira did bad things, but he owned up to them and became better.
@Xifihas That is a good point, especially with two occasions on how Akira represents Responsibility:
I agree
In Japanese version,aieee means Love(ai)
Indeed. Pogo's pep interaction is the most heartwarming.
I REALLY hope Oersted's English VA gets more work in the future. He did fantastic in this game.

@@geekdaparaiba hell, even Kingdom Hearts at this point.
Agreed!
@@gamepapa1211 maybe too harsh given that he has the power to read minds and that he should know Oersted was the victim as well.

The fact that Pogo went up and hugged that poor, broken man; and in doing so defied that above quote so beautifully; that right there is a total tear--jerker. Not sure if it's more heart _warming_ or heart _wrenching;_ you could make an argument for either, I think.
I liked Pogo and Cube's interaction with Oerstead by performing simple gestures due to their inabily to properly speak
Pogo showed genuine love by hugging him, something Oerstead should've got but never did throughout his journey
Cube gave a Oerstead flowers as sign of kindness, something he never got outside of uranus' optimism
Pogo's is by far the best. A gesture so simple and straight to the point. He actually hugs Oerstead. No need for words. Love (or Aiee!!!) conquers all.
As I told a similar commenter:
"As someone who loves hugs, especially bear hugs, I need 200k alt accounts to properly upvote this."
Cube's was nice too. He offered flowers to cheer Oerstead up :)
Actions speak the loudest
I swear as ironic as it sounds, Pogo and Akira have my favorite interactions here. I would probably be like Masaru in that situation.
I love how Sundown mimics Mad Dog while talking about needing friends
@@denysvision no, Streighbow might have led him to the precipice... but it was Oersted's responsibility to choose whether or not to jump.
Oersted truly was a hero, Lucrece just didn't want him to be one, so he molded himself into what they desired.
This is so beautiful. Each in its own way.
The remake's final heart-to-hearts with Oersted are something special. A good way to finish his story, too.
Also, Pogo is the king in giving hugs. A truly underappreciated quality.
I really enjoy he free himself, save the heroes and do the final hit
As someone who loves hugs, especially bear hugs, I need 200k alt accounts to properly upvote this.
Cube's speech was obviously the best. Such deep words from a simple robot
More like a simple but kind gesture of flowers. It was nice.
He's much more like Gaston than Prince Charming.

it's notable that while alethea regrets what she did and said, streighbough outright REFUSES to acknowledge his own fault and just spends his afterlife in denial, cause even in death he jsut cannot accept that HE might be the asshole
I beat the chapter with Sundown first, and I like how he does the pistol spin and tips his hat upwards like Mad Dog does to reference him.
Sundown is a heavy hitter. His best move just takes more time to charge than others 😅
Oersted really sells it when he loses everything.

howdy, eris! :3
Akira was just grumpy, he woke up on the wrong side of the bench 😂

Pogo is so pure.
Hong practically never gets chosen, which means very few people would get to see his ending organically. A shame, because it's genuinely amazing in its simplicity.
The kid was his most loyal friend too
@@emptyaccount9647 He even had to remember his own name, that's how far gone he was!
It is, perhaps, our greatest quality.
as they saw, hate can only be TAUGHT.
and Pogo never learned to hate. He can't even spell that word!
Akira doesn’t beat around the bush XD
I wasn't expecting Pogo's to hit so hard with no words... But damn. I'm not crying, you're crying.

Pogo and Hakka are my favourites though; simple and to the point.
I like Hong Hakka’s scene too. The 👉👈 is just adorable 😁

Well, I liked your speech, so…
For me Lei was my favorite for two reasons, 1 Being we saw her flaws when we met her, and we saw her grow along with understanding Oersted.
Akira's speech was to the point. each of their speeches/actions are good lessons to learn from.
My favourites were Lei and Akiras. Though I think they did a good job with everyone’s.
Bereft of words, but not actions. The simple act of compassion from Pogo wins. Aieee!!!!
All he needed was someone by his side, but the only one left who could fill that void, was a child who couldn't disobey his parents.
That right...
Realistically, the other options were
1. Go back to Lucrece hand yourself in and plead your innocence blah blah blah like Uranus tried and get yourself killed.
2. Or kill yourself in despair like Alethea
If I had to pick one favorite, Sundown's would be it, but Lei, Oboro, and Akira are all great as well.
I think the funniest part is when it goes from 11:16 to 11:23
Like Oersted’s crying and Akira just walks up to him and *grabs* him
In Japanese, ‘Aieee’ means love. After being hugged, Oersted subtly gets startled and says to himself.
“A…..”
“‘Aieee’(Love), is it?”
They tried their best to make it work in English, but Pogo’s hug and Oersted’s reaction to it is much better in Japanese.
Anyway, Kudos to the translators tho for making it work in English, too!
Well, having said all that, with the English version, I’d have to go with Akira.
The way pogo strokes oersted is really lovely
I think the Sundown Kid’s was the best as I think he can relate to Orested the most.
ironic you saying that when you have literally Lei explaining she was like him and that without her master she would have ended up like him too.
@@Evilriku13
Which I don’t agree with.
I think Lei Kugo had the most convincing counterargument to Oersted's point of view.
Time to download this for later in case it gets Squeenix'd.

For those wondering what the last part meant, “esporro” in English means “spur”, “rant”, or “scold”. RUclips does not understand memes apparently.

Man...pogo made me cry so much....😢😢😢
Oersted specifically using the phrase "once upon a time" (13:48 15:05) emphasizes how his story was just a fairy tale gone completely wrong.
I think my favs are Akira's, Cube's and Pogo's. I also liked the other three, but those hit differently :D
If only Oersted had the old man guiding him…..
Oersted ranks right up there with Takato Maruki as the most tragic anti-villain in RPG history.
Of the recent games I played, Frederik (chained echoes) fits the list too.
what about Mithos from Tales of Symphonia, Krelian from Xenogears or Jowy from Suikoden 2?
Lei's is my favourite, because of the clear parallels between them, and how she recognizes she's still learning to be better. There's a real kinship there.
Akira's is just below that though. He just verbally dismantles every single part of Oersted's twisted way of seeing the world, without sugar coating it.
...And of course, Pogo just giving the man a hug cannot be understated.
Somehow. Akira’s 100% is my favourite. Which is strange because he was my least favourite protagonist?? I still loved his chapter, though.
Yet he is still wrong what he said becaus eit was not he's fault, it was strawboy's fault for all ot happend
Ngl I chuckled at a bunch of these and the Pogo just struck my heart with the hug omgggg
Also unrelated but Pogo gives me Boyfriend vibes
I did Sundown and got curious to see the rest...
Pogo... oh my god. 😢 I need to lie down.
Honestly akira and the earth masters are my favorites
Damn I found this after I do all the ending by myself lol
no one talk about Yun so let me stand up for this boy.
For me Yun is the the protagonist in his story(dont get me wrong I like other two too but Yun for me he is the protagonist) from the coward boy who dont have any talent to become someone as great as his master his story touch me so much I like scene that he train in midnight because he know he not have talent like other two or when he admit he scare to fight and hid himself make other two die but get his resolve back because he doesn't want to run away anymore.(Not to mention he start as lowest level among three and the speech before fight Odi wan Lee is so cool)
Sorry for my broken Eng
Pogo is just the best
Masaru and Pogo are tied for my favorite.
Even without words, Pogo (and Cube) scenes were amazing.

He didn't have to genocide the entire nation and empower the assortment of villains he did through weird timeline shenanigans. That was on him.
@@matthewgagnon9426 Ok, sure, we could do without genocide, but it's not like he could just come back saying "It's all cool guys, the real people are here. They killed themselves." He had nowhere else to go. All he could do is be the lord of darkness and leave others be. Send a message that "you didn't have a dark lord until now, but like an Isekai antagonist, I won't do shit." Hell, assuming he had the same illusion powers from his cloak form and can pretty much screw with the timelines, who's to say that he doesn't have illusion powers? He could just reveal that he was telling the truth and was innocent
That right but that no are the way...
@@daleketchup7434 as much as I support my man Oersted, I think the best end for everyone would be if he pulled a Hash and just left the kingdom and seclude himself, but that would've meant no Odio to fight for the rest.

Like.....

Like that. What kinda dialogue would the Phantom thieves say to Oersted if they were in this?
@@megagamer2874 I know that, but if I'm gonna include EVERY member, including P5 Royal and Strikers, it would be a LONG list to brainstorm over. But it would be like this:
Ren/Joker: I do understand what it's like to be shunned. I was framed with false charges, and many who heard the story began to hate me. But, when I manifest my inner rebellion, I chose to help those who suffered in society. And I know I'm not alone. I made great friends, those who understood me for who I truly am. Sure, I'm a thief, and you were a knight, but I too fight to bring peace to society, and help those who suffered like I was. That is why I'm a Phantom Thief.
Morgana/Mona: ...You may have lost everything, but you also become just as bad, if not, worse than those who hurt you. Sure, you never asked for this, but you chose to run from it all, which lead you to this. I used to be blinded by my insecurities, and let it get to me, but I have expressed myself and my members still stand by me. I alwayz cherished the moments I have with them. Don't you cherish your moments with your loved ones?
Ryuji/Skull: Damn man, that's heavy. But you should've stick to your guns and be better for your people! Yeah, I got no place to talk; I'm not the smartest person ever, I speak stupid crap without thinking, and I tend to goof off from time to time. But what makes me different from what I was then, is that I do care for my friends. They helped me with my dilemma, and now I help those who had it worse. I'm more than just a thief member to everyone with me. I'm their loyal best friend. That is what I stand for.
Ann/Panther: ... Well, I almost lost a dear friend of mine, who couldn't take the pressure anymore. I wanted the bastard to pay for his life, but I still tell him to confess what he did. I know you're hurt inside, but you also hurt them in the end. Do you really think it brings you peace though? Sometimes, sparing the bad guy can be a good thing, you know for the moral high ground. If they want to repent, give them a chance to take.
Yusuke/Fox: ... Once upon a time, I was ignorant of the wrongdoings the man I view as father committed. That is until I learned the truth. If I must be brutally honest, you remained ignorant of your mistakes, never take your trusted allies' wisdom to heart until it is too late. I shall create an art piece to honor the memory of you facing your demon one last time, as the blackest of sin must exist with the beautiful color of virtue. Even among us Phantom Thieves.
Makoto/Queen: I used to just follow what I was told, kind of like what a tool your people took you for. But my rebellion tells me I must cut loose and make my decisions, to be my honest self. Helping others ks a good thing, if your actions speak louder than words.
Futaba/Oracle: ...I... I've been lost in my despair before... Others have said that it's my fault for something fabricated, so I believe it too. But, I have come to see what the truth really is about. I might never see my extended family again, for a long time. But through all of this, I still have my friends, and my Dad who have my back.
Haru/Noir: You used to have good friends, don't you? Friends who give your their support and guidance to help you in need? It does seem that some of your people have betrayed you, and sone of your loved ones betrayed you as well. But you do know some that you do trusted before they passed away. Trust must be earned, but it can still be worth it. There's no need to live in loneliness.
Goro/Crow: Well, it seems that we have more in common than I have anticipated. ... It's hard for me to admit this, but I also sought to be loved, all because of the one man who made me as his bastard child. While we sought nothing good for what we wanted deep down, you still let it slip away as the "Demon King." Everything else up to this point is just an excuse for you to cause this mess. Plain and simple.
Sumire/Violet: Losing evedything you hold dear is painful, I should know. I have been running away from it for so long, because I blamed myself for the tragedy of losing my sister. But then, my senpais have helped me see the truth and learn to grow from my grieving. People should learn and grow from their pain, even if it's easier said than done.
Sophia/Sophie: It may be wierd for you since I appear human, but lack a human soul, but I am still independent, like you and the friends. Compassion and love is what we all share. Humans can come to hate, but they come to love as well. Showing love and kindeness shows your good character, not showing weakness. Most people do deserve such kindness, more than you think.
Zenkichi/Wolf: ... I have lost my way before, so I kinda get what your coming from. I fear for my daughter after my wife was taken from me, but it end up straining our relationship until recently. I was a hypocrite, but I have come to fight for what my code of justice stands for. You have been wounded sure, but you made those horrible things yourself, so you have to make the best of it in the next life.
