  • Troy Lee speaks on his long lasting friendship with Motocross Legend Mitch Payton & reminisces over the memories they shared together.
    //
    Troy Lee is one of the most iconic and influential names in racing period. From the humble beginnings painting helmets in his family garage to being the only gear and apparel company to own a Supercross and Motocross team (and a factory team at that). He has painted helmets for every legend in every form of motorsport - Jeff Ward in Motocross, Supercross and Indy Car, Jeremy McGrath, Scott Dixon and many many more. This was a brilliant episode of Gypsy Tales and a fitting guest for Chapter 300 of the podcast!

    I remember buying my first Troy Lee Designs visor back in the late 80’s. Coolest thing ever at the time.
    Being an automotive painter by trade I ended up doing my own paint work but was very inspired by Troy’s work.

    Troy Lee seems like a cool dude. It's pretty cool to hear about his early days and how he made it happen as a young man. When all you see is the finished product, you think about corporate branding and the resources behind it, but making custom visors out of the garage and customizing his own stuff - that's real creativity and entrepreneurship. Great interview

    I love hearing stories like this. I remember flipping through magazines back in the early 90s and seeing his helmet paint jobs. I remember seeing a street helmet that looked like a skull. So bitchin. As soon as I could afford his helmets that’s all I wear.

    I like troy but most people don't have the money to go to Japan to buy anything because it's cheaper to start a business and to have friends that are pro racers to get the business going like that. He had the determination so he would have found a way and he had a product guys wanted so it would have taken off eventually even if his friend didn't place a big order. Just like having a plane hanger to start a business is not normal he had help most people don't get when starting a business
