So I bought one of these yesterday. Put er my medium carbon transition spire. Mullet setup. I’m 220 as well. The LBS dudes advised I go with a Sprindex 500-550 coil. On your advice I dialled the rebound almost fill tilt, and then went to my local trails to be disappointed. My experience was the exact opposite to yours. The shock was a true delight. Super consistent throughout the stroke, and was great in every format. Personally loved the shocked in the jump park. I did spend considerable time recalibrating my fork to optimize the shock. But yeah, I’m extremely happy with the dhx. Rides like the dream.
@@OtterMTBtech yeah it is! I’ll say this; without having consulted the considerable knowledge you provide about things like Fox coils, I woulda been in trouble lol. But it got me thinking: despite expecting the worst and experiencing the opposite - I wonder what elements of a frame resonate with the DHX? I bought the DHX used that originally came off a Transition Relay. I put it on a carbon transition frame. So yeah. Lots of good cross over. But the small bump sensitivity and jump line experience for me was vastly different than yours and I’m chalking it up to frame and the shock placement along the seat stay. Whatever that pivot type is called, I forget lol
Glad to hear it’s good. I also spent considerable about of time on ohlins ext push shocks. Next try get a bladder style like dvo ohlins ext . More pop than old float x same tractions you get now
The WPS/J-Tech spring calculators are by far the best if you can get your leverage ratio at sag. Instead of using average leverage, it uses leverage at sag combined with your rear center and lets you choose between a few different shocks for their stock damping profiles.
Wow, I just noticed, you were using a DHX take off with no compression adjustment. Those shocks have to compression set to the middle or 5 clicks in out of 10. You could have pulled the black plastic cap off and set the compression damping with a screw driver......or just order a compression cap kit for $45 bucks....all the compression stuff is in the shock, you just need the knob kit. It would have been better to adjust the slow speed compression rather than changing the oil.
I have a 2022 levo with a DHX. I am 180 lbs fully kitted and was running a 600lbs spring. That ended up being to low and I would blow through the travel. Went up to 650 and that killed the small bump sensitivity. Ended up adding a cascade link and now it rides like a dream.
I've also had good luck with running cascade links on bikes that aren't progressive enough for a coil (2019 transition patrol) I'd highly suggest trying one if they make it for your bike @@OtterMTBtech
If you want a really good, supple and tough shock for your Kenevo I can highly recommend you give a Marzocchi Bomber air shock a go. I switched to one from a RS superdeluxe ultimate coil and small bump and suppleness is just as good but there's extra ramp up and being an air it's obviously easier to alter the spring weight.
@OtterMTBtech the shock having bad low bump sensitivity is probaly from not having a low speed compretion dial. its prety easy to install one and should allow for beter ajustment and controll over the shock. Im pretty sure that fox has it in a medium setting from teh factory as thats what comes on the float x's. The kit is (Fox Float X & DHX Low Speed Compression Adjuster Assembly)
They’re sold out in USA. I have 2 shocks I tried to pull the knob off the other shock and couldn’t get it off. I’ll test the theory. Thank you. The last Float X I didn’t touch the knob left it wide open, 1 before was KSL take off was fine as well. This shock is YT Capra take off. Wonder what knob is turned on. The light damper oil was allot better
I have a DHX on Turbo Levo with a 600lbs Fox SLS spring. Overall I like the small bump sensitivity but I have nothing to compare to except air shocks. So I take it you like the Suntour coil shock more than the DHX?
The question is if you got it out of an 2024 kenevo or aftermarket. Specialized tunes their stuff to their specifications very well. So maybe it’s got more potential on Right tune ?
Definetly. Custom tuning a shock can get so much out of it. Most shocks are tuned for the average comfort riding dad and not a hard charging mountainbiker and tunind for a example a dpx2 which is dirt cheap will make it outperform most shocks. So yes right tune helps A LOT.
It was off YT Capra. The Specialized tunes are good, but they are like make up. They are covering up something bad or enhancing something good. Example the Mantiou Marra excellent shock through and through Float X excellent shock, tried both Kenevo SL tune and off the shelf both good. Slightly better compression on KSL shock. DPX2 and Superdeluxe are rubbish without a tune or make up
@@OtterMTBtech yeah and that’s the point, thy yt linkage is way more progressive (I mean up to 30%) an the kenevo linkage is 20%. So the tune will be more on the lighter sight. Overall you’re right the dpx is just garbage 😂 But I love and appreciate your tests ❤️
@@OtterMTBtech without knowing the exact valve architecture you cant say that a certain ifp-pressure is high or not. you have to make sure theres not cavitation, so the ifp pressure has to always be higher than the maximum local pressure difference (at the valve!). unfortunately with a larger diameter rod theres going to be a smaller effective piston area which in turn leads to higher pressure differences needed to achieve the desired damping forces and thus higher ifp-pressure.
@@OtterMTBtech They dont quit beause there is a bunch of people who use it soo lightly that somehow it does not brake apart. But any kind of proper usage will obliterate that rear LINKAGE. its been 5 years now. its literally a scam.

May be you can use a steerer extension for the short fork?
💀
Or get a new csu
do not bother with extensions. i have tried it, and it gets loose all the time. in bike park, i could not complete one ride without it getting loose.
for those who want the gram weight conversion of 1pound, 1 oz, it is equivalent to about 26 marijuanas
1 pound is 454 grams, one Oz of weed is 28 grams, one ounce of gold is 31 grams. Stoners get ripped as usual 😂
@@LaurentiusTriarius Lol I just threw that number as a joke
That’s good one about gold. Was a joke. I don’t even smoke. It’s just annoying when I see grams I’m like how many pounds is it
Float x has numbers on the dial
I had to get the hsc shim tuned on my dhx. Felt garbage before that
Less or more? HSC will kill small bump?
@@OtterMTBtech I'm only 75kg and it was really harsh small bump. Was an oem tune for a spectral but many people on forums complained about it too.

My complaint of no small bump seems pretty wide spread on DHX. I ordered a little knob thing and will give it another go
Can I use a dvo jade x
Why not? I like mine in 185x55. You can put a 700 lbs spring for that hardtail feel...
not with kenevo

GG where you at?
how does it compare to marzocchi bomber coil shock ?
I WOULD TAKE THE bomber
where do you live, looks amazing!

no thanks either floatx or ohlins ttx22m.2 (or whatever is the best one I don't know coils)
I'm getting the 2024 Kenevo comp, I'm thinking on changing the original Fox with the float x2 factory. What do you think about it?
I like the bike better with a coil shock. The X2 works good, to be honest the best shock I have used on that motorcycle is the Suntour Voro
You should send that thing to Avalanche and let them work their magic. You might just be impressed!
Rider weight 230? Oh yeah.. welcome to the club man. ps, maybe raise that seat when pedaling. Just a thought.
Dropper is broke 😂

Online calculator? Idk I put it on and if it hits it's no bueno if not it's fineee.
LOL the kenevo keeps RIPPING APART? this problem has been going on for 5 years. great bike while it lasts (5 minutes)
