So in Japan circa 2013 Whitesnake released Still Good To Be Bad, which featured (much like the new box set) the four studio tracks from Live In The Shadow of the Blues re-recorded with Chris Frazier on drums. These are the tracks included on the new box set with the exception of the 3rd disc which has the original Tommy Aldridge drums. And I agree that the new remix on disc one is spectacular, especially highlighting some great keyboard playing from Timothy Drury that was buried on the original. Based on the lack of new notes in the book, I do believe this is a straight remix, no added parts as was done for Restless Heart.
Thanks for the additional info. I tend to agree with you regarding the remix not being embellished. Honestly it didn’t need anything extra. The remix is great itself.
What a great breakdown and review on this unboxing. Nobody can do it better than you Brendon. Looking forward to getting it. Your in your wheelhouse when it comes to these unboxings and reviews. ✌🏻
I have also pre - ordered the box set of this amazing masterpiece album 🙏 which I have been listening to this weekend 🎸 🎤 ⛓️ on repeat !! Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich is one of my favorite combo in this great line-up and era !!
Personally I think anything Reb Beach touches is great. He’s a very underrated guitarist that unfortunately gets pigeonholed from his early days in Winger. Yet I love Winger too!
I got my copy on Wednesday and I did the usual before putting my channel's vid up, 3 or 4 listens and honestly? It's the first time the remaster was punchy enough (my real issue with the 2008) that the remix doesn't add enough to really justify itself. Music, and Coverdale's taste, haven't changed as much in that period where it necessitates some rather minor changes - with the odd larger one that frankly feels like it's there just so you know it's not the same version. My promo came with a press-release about " almost all unreleased material" on the bluray - I hope that's just an error and not a lie as in my vid I show the 2011 CD/DVD version that has 3/4 of the video content and Unzipped which has more. And what was that version called? "STILL Good To Be Bad" - so someone in charge DID know that a lot of material was rehashed, as the title was reused from that AND so was the black artwork on the bluray disc. So while this is gorgeous and is the definitive version of the album I think Rhino should be either more careful or more transparent. And for once, the remix or remaster should be a bonus in the box and the (wonderful) Evolutions set should be the 2nd disc in the 2-discer. That's the treasure here. It was never gonna be a set like the 80s ones that expanded iconic albums or Restless Heart which made a tepid solo album into a real Whitesnake album at last. So it's hard to be too down on it - and I'm not, I praise a fair bit in it whilst calling out the above - but considering this is also the one with by some distance the highest cost of the sets so far (and I didn't get promos of the others, so I checked what I paid) - it's not got value for money in the way the others did and the liberal re-use of material while suggesting it's new leaves a bit of a bad taste. I would suggest anyone who is not a diehard waits for the inevitable price-drop, there always is one on these and since this one is so much more? The drop should be too.
I responded on the vid but yes, you made me compare on Spotify and it is indeed a much more subtle change to say the least. I think if the previous boxes didn't set a precedent of a remix AND remaster they may not have bothered here, or added the flat original audio on the bluray as audio like most remix box-sets. I can only imagine the people writing the press releases just want to say something is unreleased and aren't really gonna care if it's true or not sadly. It just makes it sound better. I enjoy watching your vids and when you are on Sea Of Tranquility. Thanks!
I am surprised that after only 15 years he is producing a boxset version of this album, and with so many other albums in his catalogue. But I hear he is having trouble getting the rights back to those earlier albums. Still it took an album that I liked and made it far better IMO. It’s like adding a fresh coat of paint to it.
@@BrendonSnyder Yeah, basically everything from the "Box O' Snakes" he doesn't own, pre-Slide It In. Damn shame. Hopefully that changes. He's also wanted to do a box for Coverdale/Page and Jimmy is the one stopping that.
Appreciate the unboxing video, waiting for my copy to arrive 😊. Love these box set Reissues from Whitesnake. “ Forevermore” would be one I’m looking forward to next. 🤞🤞
I must say that they always do a great job with their box designs. I really enjoy eating sushi to this remix, where on the original, would mostly enjoy pasta. So yes it's far more refined and much less compressed. Boom!
im goin back & tryin to fill in any gaps in my whitesnake catalog & ive been tryin to make sense of all these whitesnake re-this & re-thats, which are quite honestly, very confusing...so i just wanted to say thank u... ur videos have been a great help in makin sense of all the confusion & breakin down just whats what so i know what to buy ...so as always dude, i appreciate all the work u put into ur videos like this, thanx!
You’re quite welcome! I’m glad I can help clarify and help you determine what’s worth picking up. I know it can be confusing sometimes and having all the info makes the difference. That’s what I’m here for! 👍
Love that it has the still good to be bad track order from Japan release in 2011 15-track CD featuring album along with newly recorded, remixed & remastered versions of Ready To Rock, If You Want Me, All I Want Is You and Dog *Re-recorded with Chris Frasier on drums. Remixed and Remastered To Bring Out All The Super Sonic Goodness.
I love these box sets.. especially the "Restless heart"one is like a whole new record ..any concrete news about the Coverdale/Page and Into the Light rumored ones?? Thank you for yr great reviews!👌👌
The 4 studio songs from "Live... In The Shadow Of The Blues" 2006 with Tommy Aldridge wre re-recorded with Chris Frazier for the Japanese only 2011 "Still Good To Be Bad". So I think these were used for disc 1 and 2 ( I still have to listen to the box set discs)
Ahh…I see, thanks so much for the info. That makes more sense in terms of how the credits are show inside the box. Also I’m glad to hear there is an actual difference and reason for the 2nd inclusion.
Almost all Japanese clipcases come just like that. The "Still..." was added for the 2011 re-release..so this is kinda "Still...STILL..Good To Be Bad". 3rd times the charm but for a 2008 album to be on it's third issue campaign? That's a bit weird.
Greetings from Northumberland. Good review Brendon, haven't ordered mine yet as it's priced at £83 then it's now £75 I will defo get it but I think that's a bit steep. Have all the other boxsets theve done inc Unzipped which is meh! Cheers. Have you bought the Rush Signals boxset set ? £220 over here wo
Yeah strange that and a pity as I bet there's plenty of great recordings from that tour. I saw them at Wembley arena n they were amazing n sound was just like listening to a record. Hopefully they'll be a deluxe version come our !!
I’m the same way but feel there is bonus unreleased content in the new remix, demos and alternate versions. But I understand that you mean new songs never released. I prefer those too whenever possible.
I know it was a live album but they did actually put 4 new studio tracks on live in the shadow of the blues from 2004 before this….. Sorry just saw you mentioned this.
Unfortunately the album is out of print now so I’m glad the 4 songs found a home on this new version of the Good To Be Bad album. They sound right at home too.
I got their original logo tattooed on my top shoulder, Got all their worthy albums in my opinion and taste which Slip ofbthe Tongue being the last one for me. But two things that im out in the music is encouraging backtracking concerts and reissue albums, Both are just poor ways to take advantages of fans and specially the fanbois who need and are addicted to buy and get everything a record company would put out about a band. Cannot buy the same album twice, Still respect your way to look at it and all your positive and constructive video about your passion.
Not everything is for everyone. But it’s not the same album twice. I can’t just buy a remastered album if I already own the original. Their has to be something different and new. For me that’s what’s happening here. I enjoy hearing alternate versions and contemplating what might have been. For me it’s an opportunity to make an album better. In the case of David Coverdale, I think he is doing just that. There is way more about this than just being a fan of the band and buying everything they do. I’ve actually skipped two of his recent boxsets. So I don’t just buy everything. I buy what I feel has value at least to me.

I’m waiting for Coverdale/Page (1993) and his solo album Into The Light (2000) both of which are supposed to get deluxe treatments as well.
I must say that they always do a great job with their box designs. I really enjoy eating sushi to this remix, where on the original, would mostly enjoy pasta. So yes it's far more refined and much less compressed. Boom!
I need to get this set for the collection. I love the presentation of these releases.
David Coverdale has set the gold standard for boxset reissues IMO.

I’m considering getting this. I thought the album was great and maybe underrated. Thanks for the review!
You’re welcome Rob!
Hi Brendon, great band and great album.
There are no bad Whitesnake albums IMO
Amazing box set. Thanks for showing it.
You’re quite welcome! 👍
Always been a fan of Coverdale. Haven’t had a chance to grab this set yet but it’s on the list!!! Spinning the original CD now!
It's funny I enjoy Whitesnake more today then I did in 80s
I appreciate them more today as well. But then there is 45 years of legacy that have built over time. So I’m not surprised I like them more today.
Coverdale knows how to do rereleases. Respect!
He certainly does. I never have to worry about what will be included because it’s always good.
@@BrendonSnyder I’d never heard this album before your review. It’s great!
My 3rd favorite WS album. Apple Music did not have the album in WSs catalog until recently
I love these box sets.. especially the "Restless heart"one is like a whole new record ..any concrete news about the Coverdale/Page and Into the Light rumored ones??

Was a good album. Perhaps their best since Slip of the Tongue.
I am enjoying the ‘evolution’ mixes. They are very clever and fun to listen to.
Yeah David Coverdale has been making these boxsets a lot of fun with the Evolutions discs that he is now compiling for each one.
Thank you for sharing, Brendon.
My pleasure!
The boxset looks great. Been thinking about buying it.
Of all the many good revolving guitar line ups of the snake , sykes rules. Reminds me a of a more hard rock oriented Phil keaggy
Good album! sounds great remastered 🇬🇧 🤘
They really did a stellar job updating the sound on this one ever though the album is only 15 years old.
yes .....the remix is way more puncher !!!
It blew me away at how much better I like it than the original.
The 'Still Good to Bad' title is pretty clever! Also, I've never seen a slipcase that has plastic wrapping around the disc to protect it, interesting.
Almost all Japanese clipcases come just like that. The "Still..." was added for the 2011 re-release..so this is kinda "Still...STILL..Good To Be Bad". 3rd times the charm but for a 2008 album to be on it's third issue campaign? That's a bit weird.
I've been on the fence about buying this one but might at least pick up the single disc edition since you said how great it sounds.
Is the Slip Of The Tongue remix a major improvement over the original 89 CD? Thanks
Received music mail received my Still good to be bad box set today
Greetings from Northumberland.

Hopefully the price will come down for you. No I chose not to buy the Rush boxset since there is no bonus material of any kind.
Yeah strange that and a pity as I bet there's plenty of great recordings from that tour. I saw them at Wembley arena n they were amazing n sound was just like listening to a record.

Nice boxset
David Coverdale always does it right!
I only ever buy box sets if there’s unreleased tracks live stuff b sides. That kind of stuff love the snake though but great album great show

I like your shirt
Fact: Whitesnake now has more boxsets than actual albums.
Not true…but even if it were the boxsets are of albums so that statement wouldn’t make sense anyway 😂
I know it was a live album but they did actually put 4 new studio tracks on live in the shadow of the blues from 2004 before this….. Sorry just saw you mentioned this.
2006
Unfortunately the album is out of print now so I’m glad the 4 songs found a home on this new version of the Good To Be Bad album. They sound right at home too.
I'm a lifetime WS fan but problem is I don't have anything to play the CDs with anymore! 🤦♂️
Must recommend you the TRETTITRE portable cd player. Great sound and great price 👍🏼
Saw them live in '81 ,great band.
Very cool!
Lifetime Snakes fan. Tbh, this was my least favourite album by the band despite the amazing lineup.
Great review though.
Maybe check out the remix and see if you like it more now.
15th Anniversary? Money grab.
Still worth it IMO
