Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH.
Opening in 2003 at the world’s first “strata coaster”, Top Thrill Dragster, designed by Intamin, was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world at the time. Launching 0 to 120 mph in 4-seconds via hydraulic launch, riders in vehicles modeled after top fuel dragsters were shot up and over a 420-foot tall hill before racing across the finish line back to the station. After many technical difficulties and an unforeseen incident in 2021, Top Thrill Dragster closed to the public. The ride will now be opening in 2024 as Top Thrill 2 remodeled by Zamperla. A magnetic swing launch will now first launch riders halfway up the original tower, before launching backwards up a newly constructed 420-foot vertical spike, and then ending with a final launch up and over the top-hat.
