Thank you for this video. Had a blowout in Austin on the highway. Couldn't find instructions in the manual. Tried to use the hook end and the small square before searching RUclips. Was able to safely change my tire and make it to a tire shop!
It sucks that you had such a difficult time figuring this system out, but thank you for posting this video, and spreading this information so maybe the rest of won't have to go through what you experienced. Thanks!
Thanks bro. I fought with that stick too. This video did the trick in seconds. I was ready to go Rambo before this. Guys like you make life much easier. Thanks again. Simper fi.
There's a first-time for everything. However, although armed with an advanced education and a pristine owner's manual, I got easily frustrated as it was late at night and I could not even retrieve the tools that were locked down under the seat. After a restless night, I looked for some pointers and found your RUclips tips very handy, particularly the initial steps. Thank you for posting.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! This video wasn't the first I watched on how to do this but it's the one that finally made it work. You totally helped and the other videos didn't address the counter intuitiveness of the piece you stick in the hole to lower the spare. Back in the day, I used to be the head mechanic on jet engine replacements for C-17 aircraft and so I've turned a few wrenches in my time but I would never have thought to put that particular part of the tool in to the hole to lower the tire. You rock!!!
Piss Poor owners manual, no clear instructions, shame on you Chrysler Corp. Thank You for showing us the proper set up and manipulation of the spare tire tools. I couldn't figure it out and was very frustrated. Thank God it didn't happen at night on the highway or the side of any road. Thank You again.
Thanks, I watched the video, I knew how to do it, but it appears that the end portion that is inserted doesn't want to turn, almost stripped. But, thanks for sharing this with us, a lot of people will benefit by your video!!!
Thank you so much, I have a 2019 Ram 1500, and your instructions worked perfectly. Like a a lot of others , I spent some time with no success . I was ready to go to the dealer. Maybe you should start writing owners manuals. Thanks again
Good video, I had a similar issue on my 2015 Dodge Ram after having a flat while the sun was going down on a busy road. The instructions in the manual are terrible and it took me way longer than necessary to change my flat tire in a hazardous location.
Thank you, thank you. I have a 2010 Ram and I did read the owner manual cover to cover and there is no where telling you how to change the tire. I am going out and do a dry run, you never know when it will happen.
Thanks! I've got a 2018 single rear wheel Ram 3500. Just got my first flat. Passenger side rear tire. 🙁 The owner's manual had a wonderful discussion about tire ratings, but nothing about deploying the spare tire equipment. 😡 So thx again! 😃
Thanks for the video, yes the instructions are not clear at all about this. I have not yet gotten a flat tire yet, but looking at the tools supplied, I was a bit confused.
Thanks for the advice. I was trying to insert the small end and not getting anywhere. I tried your advice but that didn’t work for my situation. Turns out if you have wheel locks installed by the Ram dealer, they also install a locking device in your lowering winch. It’s a special clover shaped bit that I had in the glove box that goes in the end of the rod. I posted a video describing my situation. Thanks anyway, it was the start of a lot of research.
Hi Two Gs Coffee - thanks for the video. My neighbour has one of these, and I looked at the spare and was attempting to figure out how to get the spare down from underneath the vehicle - it looked like a bit of a challenge. More so if you you're on the side on the side of the road at night - as you were. I suspect many people would find this task a bit daunting. All the best, Cheers Rick
Try doing it with the jack from a Honda like I did because some jackass took proper jack for some jacked up reason… gained some critical thinking skills. Had to lay down under the truck and turn the spare tire cable with a pair of vice grips.
Good vid. Although your camera work gave me seizures. This also applies to 2014 models. I marked the end that goes in the hole with a silver sharpie marker so there will be no mistaking. Thanks
Thanks so much and yeah, the manual and Mopar/Ram videos are useless and misleading. I missed my daughter's game last night due to a flat and not being able to figure this out in time. Nowhere does an official documentation or video tell you which piece goes at the end into the back of the truck. How stupid is that? Like many others on here, wasted valuable time very frustrated with this when one good diagram/pic in the manual would have sufficed. I bought my 2018 used and thought, either I'm an idiot or something is broken because I've been changing tires for 40 years and never had an issue with any manufacturers system or provided tools. My first RAM. Lesson learned.
It strikes me as odd that this is such an unknown thing! I knew about this before ever even owning a truck myself. MOST trucks (that I’ve seen, anyway) are like this. Not saying it’s common sense, or bragging/making fun.... but actually only stating that this just goes to show you that they should absolutely include EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD EVER REGULARLY ENCOUNTER inside of their “owner’s manual.” Because, quite simply, (and this goes for literally *EVERYTHING* and every-one.. -You don’t know about anything.. until you know about it. Also, if someone happens to be in the same boat as me, with a used truck.. that came with no manual.. (or lost it.. & possibly even no factory jack or tools... You can manage to lower it with any tool/item that allows you to make that piece spin! Last thing I wanna say.. = The “sturdy metal piece,” would be your FRAME rail. You can get away with lifting other places instead, but it can be dangerous and/or damage your vehicle if you don’t know what you’re doing. So exercise caution, and be careful/SAFE. Good luck!
works on Dodge Ram 2500 conversion van also. Bought a used van & never even thought about the spare till I got a flat, so I lower down the spare & guess what the spares flat as my ex's chest

Great video. I was walking the big metal thing holding the tire on lol. After I found this video, took me 30 seconds. You’re the man.

Thank you! Sitting on the side of the road & couldn’t figure out how to get the spare down. Your video made it crystal clear!
This video saved my butt today. Thanks so much!!
thank you, gonna be a first time changing it myself.
Thanks bro. I fought with that stick too. This video did the trick in seconds. I was ready to go Rambo before this.
Guys like you make life much easier. Thanks again. Simper fi.
Thank You for all the details!
Thank you! I dont think i would have figured this one out...
I searched numerous videos & this was the only one that was beneficial!!! Whooohooo I got my spare down and changed!! THANK YOU!
Thank you for this video.
4.5 years later, your video still came in handy. You're the best, dude.
Thanks a bunch. You are correct. The owner's manual was very unclear about how to do this function. Now, I can use the spare if I need to.

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram. And was trying to figure out how to remove my spare just in case. Your video is a great tutorial for this. Thank you.

Thanks for making this video. It's these videos that make YT great.

I couldnt get the piece out of the inside of the spare off, i tried twisting it every way and giving it enough slack but couldnt get it off. Any tips?
works on Dodge Ram 2500 conversion van also. Bought a used van & never even thought about the spare till I got a flat, so I lower down the spare & guess what the spares flat as my ex's chest

Dude that's nothing but common sense, they have had that set up since the 90's...
Thank you mate
