Madame Web is a 2024 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Columbia Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment and TSG Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the fourth film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Directed by S. J. Clarkson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Claire Parker and the writing team of Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, it stars Dakota Johnson in the title role, alongside Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. In the film, the origin story of Cassie Webb (Johnson) is explored as she confronts her past while trying to save three young women (Sweeney, Merced, and O'Connor) from Ezekiel Sims (Rahim), who wants to kill them before they become Spider-Women in the future and kill him.
I'll try to explain this one.
Madame Web was plagued with reshoots and rewrites.
Dakota Johnson signed on to a different script before they scrapped it.
Sony Pictures rumored to have misled the cast, saying they were signing up for the MCU.
If you're wondering why the villain's mouth didn't match up with the dialog, it is because they replaced the real actor's voice with a different one and didn't have the time to get right in-post.
This is basically Sony Pictures trying to make a quick cash grab to keep the Spider-Man film rights.
Fun fact when the first trailer hit the web,Dakota fired her agent and agency.
Dakota Johnson's nonchalant acting is taking me out she's like "He's trying to kill you" said in the tone you would use to tell someone their button is undone

You'll be fine with across the Spiderverse because all you really need to know beforehand is that Spiderman, Peter Parker, exists. Okay and Sony has Spiderman related stuff that is of Marvel but this is definitely a Sony movie. Almost every one of their newer super-related movies are garbage.
Important thing to add is that Across the Spiderverse is a sequel to Into the Spiderverse though! Definitely watch that one first ^^

The reason why the villain's mouth doesn't match up with the audio is because they had to edit and redo some of the scenes post-production.

@BriarPatchNyra Into the Spider-verse is phenomenal. I have the minority opinion on Across the Spider-verse. I actually left the cinema pissed, because it started strongly then dropped the ball.
But I am talking primarily about the live-action Sony Spider-verse movies.
Also, the only truly bad MCU film is The Eternals. The weakest good MCU is Thor : Love and Thunder. I don't jump on the MCU hate-bandwagon.

Personally I don’t think it has to be Marvel.
Sony could bring Sweeney back as Spider-Woman themselves, I just think Sony should choose to make Julia Cornwall’s story darker and a little sadder.
I do partially agree but she looks great as a "younger version" because the one in the comics looks at least 38-46 in age.
If Raven Baxter was here, she would've fixed this entire movie in 22 minutes!

Does this timeline even make sense? Because if Peter was just born and gets his powers at 16, becoming a well known superhero that they write songs about around 17/18, then how does no one know about these crime-fighting spidergirls who have been taking out criminals for a whole 6-8 years before him? How did they not gain any notoriety at all?

You will love the Spiderverse Miles Morales character. Those movies do a good job of explaining it slow, it’s not too fast I promise!! And the stores are gorgeous and very well visualized & written
You actually laughing and enjoying it actually makes me want to watch it. All these so called movie critics have ruined the point of watching a movie. Sure it doesn’t look like the best movie, but just to watch it to laugh at it is what I would do 😂. Plus your little side clips you add in make me giggle.
I also like that fact that she is a paramedic and is used to making quick decisions in emergency situations.
I loved watching her slowly grown to care about the girls and make different decisions for others instead of to protect herself!

This movie is bad but I'd be lying if I say I didn't enjoy it. I was gripping my bag during the last fight in the theater, it was quite fun actually 😭
Me personally I LOVED the movie, and with the man’s words not matching with his words I think an editor decided to just try to bring in the effect of his and Cassie’s powers

Im not gonna go on my marvel nerd rant, so to sum up what I personally recommend, Into the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse are perfect movies, like they’re genuinely some of the best not only animated movies but movies period, they’re that good. And as long as you know who Peter Parker/Spiderman is as a character, that’s all the prior knowledge you need.
This movie is a Sony movie in association with marvel, so not directly linked to the MCU but has tie-ins, and that’s also why it’s… not great lol. All Sonys live action spider universe movies have been pretty poorly received (least hated is definitely Venom), but I personally still think they’re fun enough to enjoy despite being bad films.
I completely understand how daunting tackling the MCU can be because it is a TON of content, but I genuinely believe that it’s all so well done, so entertaining, so full of love and care (some may disagree with that but idc I love it all) that you’ll become so attached to the characters that it’ll feel like a breeze getting through, especially if you just like having fun with movies and stories. From beginning to end, watching both the movies and the shows even to the stuff that releases recently has been such a fun ride and it’s very easily to get emotionally attached. PLUS, it’s like an automatic easy fanbase for RUclips reactors. So needless to say, I think starting the marvel journey would be really fun.

The funniest part is the girls being told to keep out of sight for a few hours and then immediately go cruising for boys at a diner putting themselves back into danger

Frankly i thought it was funny, that Cassie honestly expected three teenagers to obey her orders of don’t move for hours.

OMG PLZZZ WATCH INTO THE SPIDER VERSE. Unlike other marvel movies you don’t need to watch a whole franchise of stuff or read the comics. Knowing the stuff from the comics just enhances the experience 😚

"They're like, 'Have you considered visiting Raven Baxter?'" had me cracking up. The thing about Ben and his sister being pregnant is that in the Spider-Man lore: Peter Parker gets his superpowers after witnessing his Uncle Ben die. And since Ben's sister Mary Parker is pregnant in this movie, we're left to assume that she's about to give birth to Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man.
For me this film is not too bad but not too good either, they waste the story, especially the power of the spider girls, like give more screentime to their power

And I like how Emma is pregnant in this film, and in Delicate she is also pregnant with Spider's child😭😭🔫
Las Arañas, Okay this movie feels decent and normal. People are hating because it's lead by actresses and also because people don't like change. Yeah some dialogue is a bit uncomfortable and doesn't fit well with the scene. Did they hand the screenwriting duties to a teen? But also this movie had potential
With ATSV while it does go into a deep analysis of what it means to hold the mantle of Spider-Man and a super hero in general, and does call back to a lot of iterations of the character from different media the movie presents it well enough that even watchers who haven’t been long time fans can understand. So I definitely think you should still check it out and react to it.
I liked that Cassie felt disconnected to other people around her because of her upbringing instead of being a woman who was written please others. She found herself with more responsibilities and needed some time to understand and deal with that instead of jumping into it willing with open arms as women tend to be written. She was disconnected and numb.

I genuinely like nearly everything I watch, and I can firmly say that I enjoyed watching this movie, BUT, that’s not because it’s a good movie whatsoever lol. There’s never been a marvel project I haven’t thought was good (even Morbius) but this movie was such a mess that I genuinely don’t know how or why it was released. I wanted it to be a good movie, but I only ended up enjoying it because of how hilariously bad it was. I was fighting tears trying not to crack up in the theater which I don’t think was the intention, but it still made me enjoy it. Knowing that, I can 1000% see why critics and the public were trashing this movie.
No!! People hate it because it’s NOT a MARVEL MOVIE it’s a different company that also has the rights to some marvel characters. All the actress in this movie also assumed it was a marvel movie that’s why they pretty much stopped promoting it. Both Sydney and Dakota have publicly made fun of the movie and don’t seem to like the project anymore.

I loved the movie people so critical it's good for what it is
I just find it funny how being bit by a spider gives everyone the exact same inspiration for a suit. Even in the amazon, this tribe that has little contact with the outside world feels the sudden urge to all wear spider suits in the same style as the villain twenty years later, the villain's enemies ten years after that and even a just born baby will suddenly be inspired to wear the same suit 16 years later.
Sony just can't resist inserting every shred of the Character's IP that they can even if it doesn't make sense.

I'm a bit late to the party, but Spiderverse doesn't really need much outside knowledge! If you do have outside knowledge of the characters it makes a more enjoyable experience, but on it's own it's still very good! All you'd need to do to watch "Across the Spider-verse" is watch the first movie "Into the Spider-verse," because that establishes the characters seen in the second movie and the main protagonist, Miles
I think we need a refresh on movies and how we talk about them online. Cuz this movie was not that bad, so what if the dialogue/plot is "cringey" or "unrealistic". Its entertaining lol
