While I'm happy for the Lions' success and they're getting the respect they're due, the Vikings weren't expected to have anything close to a winning season, with predictions topping out around 6 wins. Add to that the now cliche Sam Darnold pumpkin watch, the fact that the Vikings are 14-2 and looking strong and healthy as they head into the playoffs, that has to be the better story. Are we, though? Every time we win, it's what the other team didn't do. Our defense has been coming up with major stops when we needed it. However, the media continues to act like our starters are out there. Claiming they're worried about our defense! Giving up 30 or more points per game. What? No...! You don't say captain obvious. The Vikings had a win total of 6, brought in a bunch of new starters, werent expected to do anything. Now they are playing for the 1 seed, Darnolds career has been resurrected, they have been underdogs all year and proven them wrong.
For the last time, Darnold was going to be the starter this year. Vikings fans know this, but the national media needs their storylines even if they are complete BS

the bone head lions coach calling out his players to take out knees - for example kirby last year on purpose injuring excellent players has come back to bite him AND HIS TEAM !!!! its called KARMA
The best story is the Vikings, specifically the quarterback. Detroit had a great season last year so it was expected this year. Nobody expected Sam to do what he's doing. It just goes to show that a quarterback can have all the skills in the world, but without an elite offensive line, they are toast.
It’s harder to live up to high expectations than to surpass low expectations. Lions had the harder schedule and still came out on top as the #1 offense in the league. Vikings are doing great though and this game should be a barn burner.
Minnesota is the better story: *Let Kirk and Danielle walk this off-season; staples of the franchise for the last many years *Death of rookie cb Khyree Jackson *Starting cb Mekhi Blackmon tears acl, out for the year *Rookie qb and future of the franchise JJ McCarthy tears miniscus, out for the year *Sam Darnold, labeled bust, named starting QB by default, being ensured after the McCarthy injury *Vegas odds had them at 6.5 wins *Jordan Addison legal troubles * Missed Hockenson for half the season *Ragtag group of overlooked free agents fit perfect with their coach's scheme *Lost their elite starting LT Christian Darrisaw for the year *Rookie starting kicker misses 4 games to injury(looking a little inconsistent since coming back) *National Media continuously disrespect the team/Qb Sam Darnold despite the results THIS SEASON(14-2 and in position to lock up the NFC's #1 seed and North division title, despite the adversity they have faced) *Randy Moss, Vikings and NFL legend, battling cancer
It’s the Vikings and it isn’t close. Lions were expected to be here. If they didn’t have a depleted defense, easily best team in football. But they’re screwed cause of injuries.
Vikings fan here. The Lions are the better story. The Vikings have been good at least 1/3 seasons in the last 20 years. Yes, they're better this year than any since 1998, but they're not strangers to winning. The Lions have been at the bottom of the league for a LOOOOOONG time. As a division rival, I actually love seeing them this good. I hope they lose next week, but this is a great turn of events. Lions are a great story.
It’s great to see Sam doing so well. Happy for him and the Vikings. Sundays game will be a shootout. Vikings will need to bring their A game defense to beat The Lions. Lions offense is a juggernaut.
Lions were projected to win the NFC North by a mile and the Vikings were projected to finish last behind the Bears with 6 wins. Now they are 14-2 and the Lions are the better story? The bias is insane. Also, for the millionth time, Darnold was always the starter from DAY 1 of signing. No wonder they never get anything right, they don't know anything
I'd argue the Lions as the better story, despite the most players on a NFL on IR and that are out we have a great record despite that going against us. Temu defense is holding just enough.
You mean Calvin Johnson? Sheesh. If you're going to invoke Megatron at least get his name right! He's 39 and been retired for almost 9 years. There's no way he could just pop in and contribute in a meaningful way. The only reason the Lions would want him back at all would be if he could play in/win a Superbowl with them as a thank you since he was the only bright spot on their sorry franchise for years.
Saying a team who is 14-2 winning a SB is highly unlikely is a hilarious awful take. They lost one game since week 2 and that’s to the bills. Injuries or not that’s just a disrespectful take. And you know why if Detroit doesn’t win the Super Bowl the season seems like a loss? It’s cause that’s the expectations their coach has set.
For me it’s Vikings, no one expected them to even have 6 wins this season.. especially with Sam Darnold. We already excepted lions to make it the Super Bowl but imo they will be first round exit to the buccs
Last year (2023) the Vikings did not have a running game, at ALL. Mattison? That was our RB1. Horrible. This year we are good at RB, barring injury. Aaron Jones fits a similar spot in this offense as Robert Smith did in 1998. Good enough and respected enough to keep defenses honest. And scary good on his own. Mix in All-world WR1, wr2 and wr3 good enough and a Top 5 TE and this offensive skill squad feels more solid than 1998, including I'm way more confident in Sam Darnold now than I was Randall Cunningham then. We can do this. SKOL
Good thing the Lions just beat Brock Purdy and his thugs trying to injure players. Sam Darnold is overhyped. The Vikings defense is what keeps saving them.
@@recklesstactics4718 Thugs trying to injuring players? You mean like Dirty Kirby Joseph last year putting two different TE's out for a year by diving directly into their knees?
The Lions have the most players on IR, by far. They’re nearly entirely on defense. Teams don’t typically go 14-2 with that kind of luck. They lost a guy who would have been the defensive player of the year easily given how everything played out. Heck, Kerby Joseph has a chance at it (though I doubt he will win). Personally, I think people get the Vikings story wrong. They underrated the roster talent, they overrate the head coach, and probably don’t give enough credit to Flores for fixing the defense. We talk about GEQBUS all the time, and he’s a good story, but it’s not entirely surprising. He’s throwing to tremendous receivers in a place where another drop back guy who wasn’t particularly amazing put up big numbers.
I feel like every national media story about Sam Darnold this years needs to have a pinned comment at the top with all of us peons screaming "NO! HE! WASNT!" Seriously folks, narratives are easy, but at least make a modicum of effort to get it right.
Keep counting the Lions out. They keep winning, and other teams practice squad members are playing their hearts out when they pick them up. The Lions thrive on negativity . They keep coming.
These chowder heads gave the Vikings 6-7 wins at best, Lions had a Superbowl calibar team ready to go. It's 100% the Vikings. If Darnold was thriving with the Cowboys or 49ers, this wouldn't be even a question...but it's ESPN and they love their coastal teams.
Lions movie seems better. A historically bad franchise gets good almost makes it to the SB fail right at the end and the next season have a better season but battle tragedy after tragedy. If they can pull a SB win off that would literally be a perfect storybook ending. Dominic or whatever your name is that’s called drama in a great movie my guy. It brings suspense but you don’t know the unknown.
Don such a hater. We're getting healthier on D. And the offense is powerful enough to overcome the injuries. We're talking about a 2 loss team not having a chance? Come on...

Vikings could NEVER sweep 3 divisions in 2 consecutive seasons even with injuries. Lions have PREVAILED and will cleanly sweep the NFC North making it 4 division wins in 2 consecutive seasons by the Lions. 313 for life.
@@bryanmachin2152I’ve seen many Vikings fans say some pretty ridiculous things. I pretty sure you don’t speak for the whole fanbase.
Crazy how In the near future this will be the NFC championship game
I want Vikings eagles
While I'm happy for the Lions' success and they're getting the respect they're due, the Vikings weren't expected to have anything close to a winning season, with predictions topping out around 6 wins. Add to that the now cliche Sam Darnold pumpkin watch, the fact that the Vikings are 14-2 and looking strong and healthy as they head into the playoffs, that has to be the better story. 'Nique nailed this one.
So
The fact that Detroit's whole defense is hurt and they are still winning ..
How about 85% of the defense(starters) is hurt, yet out of 16 games played, we only allowed 3 teams to score over 30 points. How's that for a story?
@@mike_johnson87 And all three were in the last 4 weeks, meaning it's been taking it's toll. The 49ers aren't a great team anymore and they still put up 34 and the Vikings are way more dangerous than the 49ers.
@@Traine05So how are the Lions team this year the bigger story.
The better story is the Vikings! The Lions were expected to be good this year. The Vikings were supposed to have a losing season and a rebuilding year. They are playing for the number 1 seed right now.
No they aren’t the better story the lions are by far
The lions
@@Djturntwhy...
@@lunatune3714 the lions got beat in the nfc championship game faced 22 guys out on defense and somehow are in position to have the number 1 seed through all that adversity while setting team records all season. Only qb in history to have 6 game stretch with 8 incompletions total. Set team record for wins with 14 and a chance to increase it. Qb that was traded to a franchise to kill his career has historically changed the same franchise. How is that not the better story
@@lunatune3714 Vikings took a qb that no one had faith put incredible talent around him and he performed well, but this was easy when you’re throwing to jj Addison and hock Goff took over a 3 win team and got them here to 14
Sam was going to be the starter week 1 but like usual in these situations, when JJ was going to come in depended on several factors. There WAS an outside chance he could have EVENTUALLY been the starter, before he got injured.
The Vikings never once said JJ would be the day 1 starter, it was always Sam
I thought Sam Darnold was always gonna be the starter from the start of training camp. Not JJ
He was they just don’t got there information right
Lazy reporting and they all keep repeating what they heard from someone else.
@@lmaocat2 you would think a “top” network like ESPN would be onto that lol
I think the Vikings should sign Darnold long term but are scared he may turn into a pumpkin again
@ franchise tag is the best route
The Vikings are the better story this year. Tim Hassleback nailed it on the head. This year was expected. The Vikings had a win total of 6, brought in a bunch of new starters, werent expected to do anything. Now they are playing for the 1 seed, Darnolds career has been resurrected, they have been underdogs all year and proven them wrong.
Man UNC really hates the Vikings, time to prove him wrong
Breaking knees shouldn’t be a joke. Lions are doing that per coach Dan. NFL should be investigating the lions
For the last time, Darnold was going to be the starter this year. Vikings fans know this, but the national media needs their storylines even if they are complete BS
Lions lose their entire defense and still winning 14 games is insane, don't know any other team that could get this done.
As a lions fan going on 40 years, im am absolutely here for this. This is a dream come true. This upcoming game is why we watch sports. Huge implications. I dont like the vikings. But im happy to be playing them than the packers or bears.
the bone head lions coach calling out his players to take out knees - for example kirby last year on purpose injuring excellent players has come back to bite him AND HIS TEAM !!!! its called KARMA
The best story is the Vikings, specifically the quarterback. Detroit had a great season last year so it was expected this year. Nobody expected Sam to do what he's doing. It just goes to show that a quarterback can have all the skills in the world, but without an elite offensive line, they are toast.
It was never supposed to McCarthy ESPN needs to do their homework
It’s harder to live up to high expectations than to surpass low expectations. Lions had the harder schedule and still came out on top as the #1 offense in the league. Vikings are doing great though and this game should be a barn burner.
Minnesota is the better story:
*Let Kirk and Danielle walk this off-season; staples of the franchise for the last many years
*Death of rookie cb Khyree Jackson
*Starting cb Mekhi Blackmon tears acl, out for the year
*Rookie qb and future of the franchise JJ McCarthy tears miniscus, out for the year
*Sam Darnold, labeled bust, named starting QB by default, being ensured after the McCarthy injury
*Vegas odds had them at 6.5 wins
*Jordan Addison legal troubles
* Missed Hockenson for half the season
*Ragtag group of overlooked free agents fit perfect with their coach's scheme
*Lost their elite starting LT Christian Darrisaw for the year
*Rookie starting kicker misses 4 games to injury(looking a little inconsistent since coming back)
*National Media continuously disrespect the team/Qb Sam Darnold despite the results THIS SEASON(14-2 and in position to lock up the NFC's #1 seed and North division title, despite the adversity they have faced)
*Randy Moss, Vikings and NFL legend, battling cancer
We love Dan Soup!!
Did they just say for athlete of the year ohtani hunter AND Caitlin Clark?! Come on espn
Lions way better.
Better story=lions
Better surprise=Vikings
That Sam Darnold entrance was like watching the original Gladiator film when Maximum came down to see his team lol.
Shannon you watch the games ? I doubt it. When I say games I’m talking Minnesota games
Sharp should stick to his other show, with booze.
Ya keep acting like they were celebrating the win they were celebrating Sam darnold breaking a couple franchise records
They acted like they already won the super bowl. Lmfao
Shannon hates the vikings 😷
Who doesn’t, other than the tards in-state?
I'd argue the Lions as the better story, despite the most players on a NFL on IR and that are out we have a great record despite that going against us. Temu defense is holding just enough.
Yeah people might have predicted the lions to be good BUT you still gotta perform and meet expectations they have exceeded them so far
How can you talk about better story and not acknowledge Jim Harbaugh
What if Kevin Johnson comes out of retirement for this
You mean Calvin Johnson? Sheesh. If you're going to invoke Megatron at least get his name right! He's 39 and been retired for almost 9 years. There's no way he could just pop in and contribute in a meaningful way. The only reason the Lions would want him back at all would be if he could play in/win a Superbowl with them as a thank you since he was the only bright spot on their sorry franchise for years.
so the team predicted to be bad is playing for the one seed isn’t a better story than a team doing what was expected??
Saying a team who is 14-2 winning a SB is highly unlikely is a hilarious awful take. They lost one game since week 2 and that’s to the bills. Injuries or not that’s just a disrespectful take. And you know why if Detroit doesn’t win the Super Bowl the season seems like a loss? It’s cause that’s the expectations their coach has set.
When willl espn learn and stop saying it was supposed to be JJ starting week 1
I’m telling you, round 1 will be super interesting.
FACT CHECK Sam darnold was slated to be the starting Quarterback from day one. Y’all are terrible reports
For me it’s Vikings, no one expected them to even have 6 wins this season.. especially with Sam Darnold. We already excepted lions to make it the Super Bowl but imo they will be first round exit to the buccs
Vikings have tied the 1999 Rams for most wins over Vegas prediction at +7.5
if we beat the Lions, we will be the greatest underdog team of all time
@@steviechampagneThe Vikings will 100% choke in the big game, if not before. They are the Brewers of the NFL

I'm begging this lady to learn ball. I miss when ESPN analysts used to be knowledgeable
SKOL
Vikings won the division 2 years ago. Loss their QB last year. Then they got Brock purdy i mean Sam Darnold to lead their team. Not surprised at all
Good thing the Lions just beat Brock Purdy and his thugs trying to injure players.
Sam Darnold is overhyped. The Vikings defense is what keeps saving them.
@@recklesstactics4718 Thugs trying to injuring players? You mean like Dirty Kirby Joseph last year putting two different TE's out for a year by diving directly into their knees?
Shannon's a hater. Mike Epps got his number.
Detroit is playing at home ! You get a big advantage with that and dont forget it !
I feel like every national media story about Sam Darnold this years needs to have a pinned comment at the top with all of us peons screaming "NO! HE! WASNT!" Seriously folks, narratives are easy, but at least make a modicum of effort to get it right.
Wild title
Keep counting the Lions out. They keep winning, and other teams practice squad members are playing their hearts out when they pick them up. The Lions thrive on negativity . They keep coming.
Historically the Lions this season people expect Vikings to be 9-8 or 8-9 team
These chowder heads gave the Vikings 6-7 wins at best, Lions had a Superbowl calibar team ready to go. It's 100% the Vikings. If Darnold was thriving with the Cowboys or 49ers, this wouldn't be even a question...but it's ESPN and they love their coastal teams.
Thank you Shannon on my hometown Detroit Lions 💙
All i know is the Lions are not happy that they are still fighting for the title on week 18 and the Vikings are thrilled. 😊
Lions been on slapping ppl all year, Revenge tour
They barely beat an injury riddled 49er team. They are getting smoked next week and will be one and done come payoff time
Yeah and they barely scraped by a handful of teams this year too tell the whole story 😂
@@kevonsidek9737the Vikings have literally done that all year. Barely beat the Jags, Cardinals, Packers twice, bears once, and lost to the Lions

Come on...

THIS IS NOT EVEN A QUESTION!!! The Lions were EXPECTED to win the Super Bowl BEFORE the season ever started, while the Vikings were picked by the "EXPERTS" ( idiot college professors ) to win 6.5 games with their "BRIDGE" ( ha ha ha!!! ) quarterback!!!
Best lions team ever 14-2
Rebuilding Vikings with a bust QB 14-2
The main media is not going to listen to us constantly telling them it was never going to be JJ 😂
They need a story…. Of course they are going to run with the notion of “Sam was never going to start” 😅
The Experts will KICK Detroit to the curb the 1st chance they get every time .I do know that.
