Extremely well put. Before the portal and NIL, I always told people that SEC only had more “top teams” than other conferences. Between the average/lesser teams, it was about equal. But while B10 had OSU, SEC had Bama, UGA, and LSU fighting it out for the championship. Today, that’s definitely changed, and I think the field is pretty level.
bowl games and you don’t include the opt outs? seriously? so a team missing 31 players against a team full strength is ok? and you’re gonna count that loss? LOL
@GoatedAtNFS Do you honestly think only SEC teams have opt outs? Michigan had more big-time players opt out than Alabama did. Stop coping and face reality the SEC isn't as good or as deep as they were 5 years ago.
Notre Dame defense dominated. 9 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles. Georgia defense 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack. Georgia was outplayed and out coached. Imagine how bad it would have been if the game was played in South Bend at 18 degrees.
And all the bs about how Georgia was battle tested and notre dame had played nobody notre dame was battle ready those Georgia fans over hyped Georgia and now Friday morning they are hiding in the closet eating humble pie that Irish defense forced 2 fumbles and keep Stockton in that Irish pressure cooker all night
Georgia's defense gave up 1 TD and that was off a fumble in the opposite red zone. Georgia made too many mistakes early but they weren't dominated at all. The QB is his first start was cooking their secondary but drops, fumbles, and penalties in the red zone cost them big time. Out coached tho.... absolutely! But the QB looked promising early so they will be back next year.
The college football playoffs has exposed the SEC. The transfer portal and NIL deals have created beautiful chaos and it's only going to get worse. I absolutely love it. 😂
Not really THAT much chaos though. The agreed upon best team going into the season and right now is Ohio State, and they have been a top team every year but once the entire 2000s lol. They won the first CFP and have never finished outside of the top 10 in the entire CFP era. Also, please don't parrot the ESPN narrative trying to discredit Ohio State with how much they "paid" for their roster. The vast majority of that money was returning players; not to mention for example Oregon's roster was over 20 million. Ohio State's number was just made public to try to use that as an excuse if they won because people knew they were the most talented team and had a great shot at winning the title going into the season.

IMO this playoff season has been great. I think it’s great to reward all teams who win their conferences, regardless. Otherwise you’re just wanting to stack a bunch of teams inside the SEC and limit the playoffs to SEC season part two. It’s better for the whole sport to let all the conferences participate fully.
Why would it be sec part 2? It is clearly the number 2 or 3 conference. Truth is, now the sec doesn't get all the calls and there is a playoff where the committee can't stack 3/4 teams being sec. Now the other conferences get to show the sec how it would have ALWAYS been if the sec didn't always have home field advantage by always getting to play in the south. Now they gotta go up north a bit, they will never do well. The big ten has ALWAYS been better. They just never got to show it because it was always a home game for the sec schools. This is how it would have always played out.
Which the present system doesn't do, since ALL the conference champs don't get bids. We need a true playoff with ALL the conference champs and no committee. It can be done. Works great in the other divisions.
People keep talking about the SEC is "washed" or that it's not once what it was. I'll push back on that notion and just say that college football did the right thing by creating the portal, which has leveled the playing field and made college football more equitable.....long gone are the days of ONE conference dominating college football, and I think that's healthy
Yeah, well, let’s talk about the inequity that existed and the foundations of the dominance aided by the number 1 sports outlet who was mad the big ten started their own network. Yeah it is nice the playing field is even, I won’t forget though.
The other point that has been missed is that the expanded playoff has shown how artificial the previous dominance has been. Having the cutoff at two teams or four teams gave the false impression that they were the only teams deserving of competing, the only teams capable of competing. We are now seeing that it was never the case, it was just a self-selecting system used to prop up the idea of conference dominance.
SEC plays less conference games, and is the ONLY CONFERENCE to schedule "High school games" in November Enough of this SEC dominance BS, they've been stacking the deck against everyone else for years
The CFP bracket was horrible. Automatic qualifies are fine, but seed all the teams instead of giving higher ranked conference champions higher seeds. You should have strength of schedule wins/ losses all affect the seeding.
It hurts the conference when the best coach in college football retires. There aren’t many of those guys out there and they are nearly impossible to replace, more now than ever. It’s a really hard job, much more than just coaching and recruiting. Whenever you want your coach fired, you need to be prepared to say who you’re replacing him with.
But he retired because he knew the advantage he had was gone. He was an amazing coach working with the system that was. But once Bama wasn’t able to stockpile players like cordwood, once the SEC was no longer paying under the table at rates other teams and conferences couldn’t compete with, that’s when Saban bailed. Could he have remained an exceptional coach under the new structure of college football? Maybe. But we will never know. And the timing of his retirement made it look like he already knew the answer.
Saban is The Biggest College Football Fraud of All Time.😂 If you want to see how great Saban was when the playing field was level, check out his NFL record with the Dolphins.

They'll just put the entire SEC in the preseason top 25 every year to ensure at least 3 SEC teams make it every year. I'm done after the ASU no call on the targeting. That proves this stuff is rigged.
The balance in power is more leveled than ever when guys find out they can go to another program and play right away as opposed to sitting 2-3 years and maybe playing after that.
The thing I think they missed here is that roster size went down across the board. Not only is NIL enticing people away from teams but teams also have less roster slots to go around. This both pulls and pushes players out the door if they want to go or not which allows talent to be more widely dispersed with both the carrot and the stick.
They did lose to ASU. That field goal they rejected and the obvious major foul with less than 2 minutes was a gift. Texas definitely was not the better team in a regular game. They did have better conditioning and better players for overtime games, I will acknowledge.
Everyone not named Ohio St are competing for 2nd place. If OSU plays to their potential, as theyve done the last 2 weeks, NO ONE can compete with them. Period.
@ld4974 I despise OSU and their players as very humans. Their existence is putrid. But, their talent level is so far superior to everyone else, that when they play to it, no one can touch them. Now, will they play to that level for 2 more games..? Who knows. But, if they do, no one can beat them.
@dionwells2859 Of course. But, it really is about OSU, not whoever they play. If OSU plays to their potential, no team can beat them no matter how well they play. OSU just has that much better of a team this year. We all expected to see it earlier in the year, but we have seen it the last 2 games.
True statement. But OSU has a long history of not playing up to it’s potential. If they don’t win this year, it’s the biggest waste of talent since that year in the late 90s when they lost to MSU and were left out of the championship.
SEC officials’ over-officiating has made the conference soft. In SEC play, there was a flag thrown on nearly every play. It was obnoxious and conditioned players for 12 games not to be physical. Now we get to bowl games and find other conferences are allowed to play. Very few live action flags. There’s got to be more consistency in officiating across conferences.
A couple of years ago, I wasn’t sold on Marcus Freeman. I sure am now, brilliant coaching over the last couple of seasons, and the player you can tell really believe and respect him ( mutual). Is the natty theirs this year?
Everyone is talking about the SEC and as a Texas fan I would say this in the Big 12. But it is the week to week gauntlet they speak of in the SEC. And when you’re given a month to prepare anything can really happen.
@@mgpray well it’s not week to week because they play fewer games than everyone else. The big10 is just as physical and plays one more conference game. The only teams playing FCS schools in November are SEC schools. That’s not a week to week to league. 😂

@ they haven’t been the best. Michigan showed that last year by winning the national championship and the bowl records of the SEC teams since NIL is atrocious. They play one fewer conference game than everyone else and the only power 4 conference that plays FCS schools in November. The only reason people think that is they believe the ESPN bias
I would say other than beating Clemson a few years ago, USC at home when they had heisman winner Caleb Williams…. But they have too many terrible losses and people remember them.
A generation is generally viewed as 20 years. As a long time college football fan I have a hard time pulling up a bigger win by ND since 2004. So this is a legit statement.
Yep. The NIL and transfer portal will make college football more exciting for the top 50 or so teams because there will be more parity. No one team can afford to pay all the top talent, so the field will be more even than it probably ever has been. This is a good example of a fair and open market leading to better outcomes.
Georgia isn’t as good as previous years, but I have no doubt that they’ll be back. Tennessee has been great with recruiting and is definitely on the come up..dont doubt that Nico will be the best QB in the nation next year. Alabama will certainly be back with a bonafide star at QB in Keelon Russell & Texas is here to stay for years to come with great recruiting. If osu gets passed Texas they are the only one who can match the talent. Finals will be a blowout ND offensively cannot hang with osu and their defense isn’t as good as the buckeyes either and osu dominated penn state at penn state and they’ve only gotten better since while penn state struggled for much of the boise game until the final quarter. Last time Ohio state and ND played final score was 10-9 and Ohio state scored a TD with 0 seconds on the clock. They were given the W, literally by Notre dame.
That is a great point. That is exactly how it would have been under the two older systems. Now three of those four teams are eliminated, Texas almost got eliminated, and Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame have all proven to be among the top 5 and championship worthy
@@jasondierbeck4392Boise would’ve never made a 4 team playoff. They barely made this playoff but because of the ACC and BIG12 chaos they were seeded higher than they should
The playoffs doesn’t need to be tweaked beyond maybe re-seeding or possible expanding to 16 so there are no byes. The teams that have byes are waiting too long to play but I also don’t think I like the idea of 16 teams. 12 is perfect so maybe a better method to re-seed so Oregon isn’t getting OSU as their first game
The portal has turned A+ SEC teams into A teams, A teams into A-, B+ teams into A-, B teams to B+. The top of the Big Ten have remained as A and A-. The rest of college football has gone from A- to B+, B+ to B, B to B-, and so on.
It’s because the Big Ten is spending the most money on their college football teams poaching players from the SEC it’s no longer the big 10 it’s now the SEC north
You think Indiana was paying players before? You think Arizona State was paying players before? You think SMU was payi… scratch that last one. Maybe other schools used to pay one blue-chip player, but SEC schools were paying players on their three-deep to sit on the bench for two years and then start as juniors. Maybe there were two or three other schools that could play that way, but it certainly wasn’t the business model of an entire conference like it was way down south in the land of cotton.
Joey Galloway actually has no idea about the rules of college football. Face guarding/shielding is allowed in high school and college football. It was interference because of the contact, NOT because you have to make an attempt to turn your head and look at the football. That is purely an NFL rule. Pretty shitty analysis.

The SEC is 25-24 over the past 4 years in bowl games. Ever since NIL and the Transfer portal became prominent the SEC dominance has really fallen off. The top teams will still be really good, but they aren't the locks people thought.
Yup. When you can’t lock up all of the talent knowing most will never start, they can now get out of the lie that coach sold them to sign.
Actually that's a misleading stat.

💯💯
And all the bs about how Georgia was battle tested and notre dame had played nobody notre dame was battle ready those Georgia fans over hyped Georgia and now Friday morning they are hiding in the closet eating humble pie that Irish defense forced 2 fumbles and keep Stockton in that Irish pressure cooker all night
Great point,
Georgia's defense gave up 1 TD and that was off a fumble in the opposite red zone. Georgia made too many mistakes early but they weren't dominated at all. The QB is his first start was cooking their secondary but drops, fumbles, and penalties in the red zone cost them big time. Out coached tho.... absolutely! But the QB looked promising early so they will be back next year.

You love that CFB has been destroyed?

Sure but don't give them auto byes
the ACC and Big-12 proved nothing. so don’t know what this take is about

Sec got out coached especially Georgia game
The other point that has been missed is that the expanded playoff has shown how artificial the previous dominance has been. Having the cutoff at two teams or four teams gave the false impression that they were the only teams deserving of competing, the only teams capable of competing. We are now seeing that it was never the case, it was just a self-selecting system used to prop up the idea of conference dominance.

That's just too much time off. Unless someone gets hurt, it's better to play the extra game for reps and to get into a rhythm

The balance in power is more leveled than ever when guys find out they can go to another program and play right away as opposed to sitting 2-3 years and maybe playing after that.
The end of talent monopoly has been the best thing for college football! Less predictable, more teams involved, and makes for a better product.
The thing I think they missed here is that roster size went down across the board. Not only is NIL enticing people away from teams but teams also have less roster slots to go around. This both pulls and pushes players out the door if they want to go or not which allows talent to be more widely dispersed with both the carrot and the stick.
Don't forget the portal.

@ld4974 I despise OSU and their players as very humans. Their existence is putrid. But, their talent level is so far superior to everyone else, that when they play to it, no one can touch them. Now, will they play to that level for 2 more games..? Who knows. But, if they do, no one can beat them.
Yeah okay and that’s why they play the game
