The majority of Premier League clubs want to keep VAR after Wolves tabled a proposal to scrap the technology.
However, it doesn't mean the clubs are happy with it. They want significant improvements, but the Premier League says those are on the way for next season.
The majority of clubs accept the points Wolves have made, but feel scrapping VAR would be counterproductive and damage the standing of the Premier League.
Rob Dorsett explaisn why Wolves' proposal to scrap VAR is very unlikely to succeed.

The use of VAR has not been successful. The match officials' operating the system are biased. They only use it to favour the teams they support. Part of the problem (and there are many problems) is that Howard Webb's group has proven to be incompetent & lacking integrity. The Liverpool "Diaz offside" blunder & several matches where VAR declined to review a play because they didn't want to "show up" the ref on the field quickly come to mind. Yet, the Prem will involve Webb's group again if they keep VAR. The Premier League risks losing the faith & trust of its fans if they keep VAR & keep Webb in charge of it.

    • @Hanktulip
      @Hanktulip 25 дней назад

It would be much better to go back to "those days" too many people are forgetting or simply don't know the reason why the " Offside " rule was brought in in the first place - it was to stop " goal hanging " , Yes there were goals given that were Offside but most of the time, that just meant that they were "technically" Offside which was fine - now it's come down to millimetres - which was never the point of the Offside rule - if anyone thinks that the Offside rule being so precise means that it is a fair rule for everyone then ask yourself if you think it's fair when a player is called Offside and a goal does not stand when ( because it's down to such a tiny amount ) a player with smaller feet would not have been called Offside - if you think being "penalised" for body size is fair and in the true spirit of the game then good luck to you and I hope you enjoy football when they bring in the next daft rules because we just sat back and watched while the powers that be decided that they know what's best for OUR game, they are getting rid of FA Cup replays - a brilliant thing for clubs - earning a hard fought draw away from home and getting a much needed revenue for the home replay , we've had FA Cup replays for a hundred years but those in charge know what's best - all they care about is making football better for the fans - bless their cotton socks - they really are true champions of the beautiful game

I dont understand why were not using automated offside technology? Have camera's follow the players and the ball constantly, have the camera's determine offsides and not leave it to VAR officials to draw offside lines.
VAR should be completely replacing linesman imo, theres no need for linesman referee's, they get decisions wrong soooo often. Like incorrect corner/ gk decisions. Incorrect throw-in decisions. Incorrect offside calls etc.

VAR should apply rules of game to confirm to ref if the decision was correct or not. Ref can then opt to review, accept if VAR agrees with on-field or overturn decision if VAR disagrees or ignore the VAR information. Refs will still be in control of game but can be judged on their performance 👍

Wolves have had apologies for really poor decisions, the officials say sorry then say they will change things for future games & they do ... Thanks Wolves for helping us make Var better however no compensation will be given.

It was so refreshing and fun watching some Cup games that didn't use VAR. Made me miss being able to celebrate goals... now you have to wait 3 minutes.

If VAR was used properly then it's great but the VAR Operators are so bad they haven't got a clue what they are doing

VAR is not the problem, is the officiàls behind it, if all europeans, asians, south and north america want to learn, they should watch all concluded AFCON in ivory coast... VAR is good, but those referees and VAR officials, are not good enough and sentimental and favouring some teams...

Sky, you seem like you're pandering to the PGMOL and the Premier League in their decisions, though they are often incorrect. You don't have the balls to stand up against the inefficient Premier League. The problem with VAR is the people running it. The referees in the Premier League are the worst in the game. VAR works more efficiently in other leagues because the referees running it know how to call an unbiased game. Wolves are absolutely correct on goals. As a fan, when somebody scores, I can't cheer or sulk because I am like will it be a goal or not? It takes away from the game. The game is being reffed twice. This leads to a ridiculous amount of extra time at the end. If we had better people, who knew the game, running it, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Var isnt the problem. Its the referees making mistakes on a weekly basis. Var just shown how bad the refs are. It didnt help rewriting the rules so no one knows what a handball or foul is anymore.

That 4% is wolves then var is 100% making it less enjoyable for fans and slows the game down and we have var and pricks still dive

Utter crap, I have spoken to 12 clubs support groups and there is a massive movement to get VAR removed out of the game so what is being sprouted here regarding VAR is utter rubbish. These statistics that the premier League peddle is based on what exactly ???
VAR is like a bad marriage, you don't fix it you get rid of it as the Premier League in regards to VAR is The Lies The Damn Lies then The Statistics ... Everything about VAR has damaged the game irreparably, Get rid of it I say !!

The tech will never be the problem, its people that are, too much subjective reviews and no pressure on refs on the pitch plus the whole silence for 6 mins or so goals never being celebrated properly as fear of it being ruled out for a toe nail but is that even the right thing to do? The refs not putting up the flags immediately also gets annoying, i think the refs need to be properly educated in other countries about var and see how its run or bring in foreign refs who do know the system and let them take it, this isnt hard to correct but theyre making a mountain out of a mole hill

So sky again in bed with the refs/pgmol not going against them in any way shape or form. correct decision are delusional because there is no consistency within the game officials, the new we refs don’t want to go against the older ones when there in VAR but the older ones will quite happily re ref decisions. Where is the consistency there?- The interviews with Howard Webb are a joke because he’s never contradicted or asked hard truth questions.
VAR has spoilt the game - the fans are fed up with it, the only thing it proves is that there is no consistency with the officials.
Statistics can be laid out to say bread is water or 1 = 50000 so they can shove that where the sun doesn’t shine.
The league this year will be won by a team who has had many decisions in the crucial matches go their way.
