    Wowww. This is amazing. So you've basically taken the MBTI model and interpreted it to fit into the gaming world. You even made up your own words. This is innovative actually and I could see why people would mistype you as an INTJ.

    I've been an INTJ my entire life took several Myers Briggs exams over the years to measure and see if it's changed, which it never really did. Your explanations here are amazing, just so spot on. It took me a long time to find my "extravurted thinking," but it's helped immensely to function as an adult.

    I almost universally play as some kind of moderately nature-oriented, distance weapon-wielding (with a back up melee), stealthy character with varying use of magic (depends on the aesthetic I want and the type of game I'm playing). I love nature, not getting too into the deep of things, and being mostly well-rounded with plenty of contingency options.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  6 лет назад +1

      Awesome! What do you mean by not getting too into the depth of things?

    • @peregrination3643
      @peregrination3643 6 лет назад +3

      Into the fray. I don't like aggressive situations. Sometimes it's because it's more fun to be elusive, and other times it's because (in real life as well) after a point it gets too hard to keep up mentally and--you called it--the berserker comes out. And in game I'll be annoyed afterward because I had to use too many potions when I wanted to conserve my resources, even if I didn't have to (I hoard resources just in case).

      @GeekPsychology - you stated why at 13:54: explanations with vivid, relatable metaphors and a clear structure. You have an integrated understanding of cognitive functions making you an effective teacher (rather than simply relaying information). You’ve chosen relevant attributes for each role (instead of an all-inclusive list) so the model is user-friendly. The mental representations for each role are clear and lacks ambiguity. Excellent structure where the hierarchy is consistent and each part relates to the other in predictable and understandable ways. Anyone can build a model but it is REALLY hard to build one that works at every level. Yours does. Very impressive!

    When I play RPGs, I usually enjoy playing mystical, spiritual characters like clerics or monks who are communing with their deity or deep into their clerical studies most of the time. They get into a zen like state where they get visions of the future, see everything as if from above and analyze things from another perspective. They see things from an eternal point of view that their deity shares with them. They want to help people carry out their role in the big picture that their patron deity imparts to them and to achieve the goals of the adventuring party. They prefer to stay back from the thick of battle while buffing the fighters and berserkers etc. who are in the front lines. When I can get my character's wisdom, intelligence and charisma to be the highest ability scores, I'm glad. Yeah, the guys who always seem to want to go berserk and just dive in without a plan do drive me nuts in games and in life. But, I try to buff him, heal his wounds etc. as he's diving into the fray.

    I've always related the most to the Ranger class in D&D and now I understand why. Waiting for the perfect shot, studying the most efficient way to hunt, getting into a reckless rage when I'm infuriated, its hilarious how this fits me so well. Unfortunately, I've been in a long term Ni-Fi loop for most of my life (just turned 18) so I never managed to use my talents well enough to actually become outstanding. I'm definitely going to start moving though! I'm tired of my shell.

  • @thelemoneater
    @thelemoneater 5 лет назад +1

    Well this fits in nicely with my gamified version of the world where every new interaction starts a new quest line that you can follow or abandon, every effort builds up exp for whatever skill you are developing and that moment where you realize you've improved is you leveling up (At lower levels you level up insanely fast and can easily see your progress). While leveling up a single skill can do good, its generally better to develop multiple skills that work well together, or to surround yourself in people who can cover for your weaknesses.
    Jobs and career paths are like specialized, evolving classes that requires multiple high leveled or maxed out skills and hours of grinding to unlock .
    If you're think of pulling long hours to impress your boss / studying to get into that uni or building a portfolio to land a job, it can be pretty daunting or feel like a waste of time, but if you can see it as grinding for a class upgrade, it somehow feels easier.
    Dunno, this works for me when I'm in work mode, evaluating myself and trying to figure out what to work on in my spare time.

    If only more people knew about our Alphys/Noelle/Ickis/Leonard side! Pop culture portrays us as being inherently Sheldon-like, confident and authoritative, when a lot of us are actually more like Leonard. Or maybe we're a mix of both. We've got Sheldon's style of "Nerdular Nerdance" (Strong Bad fans, represent!), but the vulnerable part of us is more like Leonard (hence the inferiority complex a lot of us struggle with). That's more true for "turbulent" INTJs rather than "assertive" ones (if you like that dichotomy which some don't). In Borderlands terms, it's like this: Tannis (Ni), Roland (Te), Gortys (Fi), Brick or Krieg (Se). We probably also have a GLaDstone side to us - the flipside to our confident Jeff side (from Earthbound). But which Stranger Things character are we?
    18:10 See also Brick or Krieg from the Borderlands series. Oh! Oh! Oh! Did you ever watch Krull? The Glaive from Krull was used briefly in Ready Player One.
    20:19 Let's play Bunkers and Badasses!

    I am uncertain how much time should be left quibbling the morality of an action and even less certain how the impact upon others is relevant, intimate friends & companions excepted, of course.
    Compassion & empathy can be a hindrance in excess and cause their own sorts of damage. Imagine raising a garden in which you refused to pull a weed or prune a branch due to an overload of empathy. Real world scenarios may be seen in parents who want to be a friend & become a less effective mentor or role model.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  7 лет назад

      I struggle with management of my students often because I come off as a friend more than someone who will discipline them. Not because I want to necessarily. It's more of a compulsion :P
      Leaning too far to any end will cause problems, for sure. That's why I like to think of all these cognitive functions as characters with voices trying to be heard and quests to be had.

    I am also an INFP Enneagram 9. I too get mistyped as INTJ by a lot of people, especially xNTJs when they are first getting to know me. I have wondered if I am secretly an INTJ who identifies really hard with their Fi, but it's become clear to me over time that Fi is the clear driver. After all, I've also thought I might actually be an INFJ, INTP, and ENFP respectively at different times in my life. That in and of itself is evidence I am an INFP--INFPs tend to question their type more than any other type no matter how far down the Jungian typology rabbit hole they go because one of the defining characteristics of INFPs is that we are constantly pursuing deeper understanding of identity and systematically reevaluating our conclusions to make sure they are still valid.
    I have several close friends who are xNTJ and they all thought I was an INTJ toward the beginning of our friendship and have learned how different we really are over time.
    A PSA to all of you TJs: Fi is not Fe. Even when FI is a dominant function, I am not necessarily going to come across soft and squishy and and emotively forthcoming. I likely will not fit all of the stereotypes of what an "emotional" person is like, even as a woman. I am, however, fantastic at emotional aikido. What I may appear to be is a bit scatterbrained. My decisions may seem spontaneous and not make a lot of Te sense, but they will be effective for my own personal and private objectives. You will likely find bursts of creativity and ingenuity if you talk to me, and will find me very knowledgeable in subjects that interest me. I'm good at creating and making stuff, but I will go about it differently and emphasize different parts of the creative process than you INTJs will. All of this is due to Fi Ne Si.
    Geek Psychology: what is your Enneagram instinctual variant? I wonder if something of Enneagram 9-ness causes INFPs to grapple with or display more Te to than say an INFP 6 or 4.

    @15:51 maybe more about effecting the greatest change with the least amount of action. We see it more beneficial to fire arrows that land rather then pepper the air around a target with futile attempts. I do this in FPS. Im not a sniper (even for me thats too boring) But I dont just rush to the front lines. Im more useful as a bit of a vulture, making sure my team isnt flanked. With life. I'd rather be left behind as I contemplate whether or not to jump this ciff into the water with my friends. But I'd hate to be the idiot who didnt take a second to consider their life being at risk, check for clearance and obstructions in the water. Everyone else> dives right in. INTJ: Meh whatever, I didnt want to get wet anyway. I dont have a towel etc. We dont experience FOMO its FOBI fear of bad investments

    I cannot define my type between INTJ and INTP. I possess both of the descriptions and the cognitive stacks are baffling. I’ve studied both and I have no conclusion yet. It is frustrating.

    • @babarpitafi358
      @babarpitafi358 5 лет назад

      The key difference is that INTPs are logical and INTJs are rational. Which means that INTPs care more about which is true and what is false while INTJs not so much, they have their belief system and their moral values which guide them about right or wrong (Fi child function). Sometimes their moral values can be misguided. So they are less logical. Another difference is that INTPs are generally interested in any and all knowledge, like literally my INTP brother would want to know how Penguins in Antarctica live their daily lives. While me an INTJ would not care so much. I'm like who cares. So INTPs are generally more knowledgeable. INTJs only read or study like really dig deep into topics they find to have practical application or some use to them.

    not a mage? I'm always mage or warlock. I don't like that you can run out of arrows - mana refills itself.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  7 лет назад

      True. I was torn between making the intuitive types "magic users" or rangers. Had to pick one! And "using your head" (Thinking) just keeps pulling me towards it being the magic using class.
      But that doesn't stop you from adapting it to yourself.
      I used to have warlocks, paladins, rogues, etc in the system, but I didn't feel that it was an empowering frame.

    • @Mr._Anderpson
      @Mr._Anderpson 7 лет назад +2

      So summon a bound bow which will automatically replenish its ammunition a la Skyrm or imagine the ranger has a quiver which is enchanted to never empty like the one used by the drow Drizzt Do'Urden.
      The either/or dynamic is tiresome. Many things cannot be divided to a dichotomous choice of options. Multi-class ranger/druid/rogue for the win.

      Sherman Sniper is the perfect word,because although I'm sure much more goes on behind the scene (24/7 subconscious calculations),but what is delivered to the conscious mind is the end result,which is fine tuned. It is only as fine tuned (accurate) as the Ni dom's supporting functions allow to be stored in the data base in which Ni draws conclusions (garbage info = garbage Ni conclusions). I think eventually Ni can be somewhat logical,because I have had dreams in which I was thinking logically (something that is apparently not possible).
      I have repeatedly seen Ne users come to the same conclusions as me (in a roundabout way),but really Ni does the same,albeit in the background. Ni is actually quite fast if it has the relevant needed knowledge at hand. If one key piece of the puzzle is missing,then it can take years. When that one piece is found it's a eureka moment.
      I think all INTJs realize this (at least subconsciously) and thus their thirst for new knowledge.
