Studpack is the best construction channel on RUclips. Learned so much. I’m so grateful for you guys!!
Studpack is one of the best. You should check out Perkins Builder Brothers too.
One of the best, @PerkinsBuilderBrothers is amazing as well.
Yep. Huge fan of Joe’s channel for flooring. His videos helped me a lot when I put LVP down in my home. Pretty cool for Stud Pack to give him some kudos.
You guys kick butt every single time. The quibbles in the comments are so foolish in light of the quality of your workmanship and video content production.
Mr Jordan. please give us an updated breakdown on cost at this point! we all want to know!
You guys need to start planning your COO party! 🎉🎉🎉
After coming in from starting a shower, i wanna do som LVP.
Much better knowledge channel prior to being sponsored, but guys, I completely understand.
I tapped the like button with a hammer... my screen is cracked now :( JK, Love your videos!
If you had planned to use 3/4 finished flooring and then went to 5/16? your stair risers may not meet code. no more than 3/8" difference between the shortest and tallest risers. Check it out.
That's not an issue because the stairs are also unfinished. Use the same size flooring in the stairs and problem solved.
I definitely way overthought that when I rebuilt my staircase, too. Because, I had no idea how I wanted to finish it.
@@dalaube There may still be an issue. If you are not going to place any flooring at the concrete floor and you cut the stairs for 3/4" finish treads then that means the bottom (first) riser is 3/4" less in ht. the all the other risers. The bottom riser may be an issuse. measure all of your risers to see and get back to me. I am just trying to inform you of a common issuse that a lot of framers face when the home owner changes the finish thickness.
I get the cost savings and needing to put out a video, but I'd stick with my original plan because that's how everything was measured.
@@williampage3463 it's funny, I was going to edit my post to address exactly this, but I didn't want to write a novel.
I can appreciate what your trying to do and this is an interesting topic to me, so I'm just going to assume that your "get back to me comment" wasn't intended to be condescending.
I'm sure this is a major headache for commercial builders, but for everyone else this still isn't that big of a deal
In the edit that I didn't actually make. I was going to state they would need to add some sort of finished surface to the ground level.
But, even if they were dead set against finishing the entrance, all they would have to do is split the difference in height between the first and second step and plane down the first riser accoringly
The difference in height between their two choices of flooring is 7/16", so the first two steps would only be 7/32" lower than the remainder, which code has deemed to be safe enough. Is it ideal? No. A keen eye might notice it in certain settings when the light hits it just right, but nobody is going to trip over it.
Edit: I don't actually remember what the original and current floor thicknesses were. Nor do I remember if they increased or decreased. Point is it has to be a drastic difference in thickness in order for you to be unable to compensate for it by planing/shiming the first riser. Which is also the riser where you are the least likely to visually notice the difference.
Edit2: also just want to state that I don't disagree with you. Might be problem that has to be addressed. I may have artificially inflated the level of severity that you were implying.
Communication is weird. My life experiences tell me that when someone says "there's an issue" it has usually meant that it can't easily be fixed. When realistically "problem" is not always synonymous with "difficult".
Additionally, I reread your first post and I may havs misinterpreted "check it out" as "check the code" rather than what I now think you meant: "double check the floor thickness because I don't remember the thickness of your original choice but it may need adjustments now"
So there's my complete novel now. This is what I do when I can't sleep 😂
@@dalaube Not trying to be condesending just trying to be helpful.
I was having stud pack withdrawals ... glad you guys are back at it!
LOL me too!
I still stop, drop, and roll whenever Stud Pack uploads
after 10 hours of laying floors today, you’d think i wouldn’t want to watch a flooring video 😁 keep it up guys
Me too. I love their flooring videos. Cause they are so awful at it.
@@Wez633 why you gotta be hateful lmao. but i understand, if i looked like that i would have to be hateful too
@@Wez633 idk looks pretty good to me
@@6989uwu all he leaves is hateful comments he has nothing else to do lmao
Im glad Im not the only one finishing up a day of flooring just to watch someone else lay floor.
Love how you installed the “security” system on the old house that is now just a couple months away from being torn down 😂
Edit: I’m totally poking fun. I love the channel and everything it stands for. Their quality and craftsmanship is above any other RUclipsrs
Good thing is it’s not corded so they can easily move it to a shed eventually
Because they know how bad of quality it is they don't want to put that stuff on there new garage (but they recommended for us)
Where Jordan is living is where the wifi is, I'd guess. Plus, more reliable power (for the wifi) than a building that's actively under construction
Flooring and trim in one video… I feel like this was a movie compared to the normal tv episode!
Great work, as always!
Looks amazing guys. Not too long at all until Jordan starts moving in. What a wild ride it’s been. The main house build is going to be epic. Love stud pack!
The interior drone shots were honestly super cool.
Why are there so many scenes where Paul is doing the work on his hands and knees and the young guys are walking around supervising. Knee replacement surgery in Paul's future.😂
I was thinking the exact same thing.
As soon as I saw y’all installing LVP, I was gonna shout out JOE that guy is the goat. I installed about 3000 ft.² of LVP in my home because of his videos and tools he is the best and y’all rock too.
Joe's channel is a must watch for DIY floor installers. Even the pros can learn from Joe.
In the "big freeze of 2021, a pipe in my house burst, and I had two bedrooms and a hallway flooded. As odd as this sounds, we were lucky to have just gotten back to the house. I hollered at my wife to fill up the bathtubs (pro-tip - if you have water you can both drink it as needed, but also fill up the tanks in the toilet and flush it!) In the end, my wife insisted, wisely, that we not replace the carpet with more carpet, but rather the laminate flooring as you have done. It took me a few tries to figure out "straight" cuts through a hallway at 23 1/2 degrees to two doorways into bedrooms, but paper templates ended up saving the day!
Nice shout out to Joe Lentendre and @SoThatsHowYouDoThat. I'd love to see a cross-over - I wonder if Joe could come help with the floors in the main house?
I've done LVP in an apartment and a house using the info from @sothatshowyoudothat. Both turned out great thanks to his expert knowledge.
So happy they mentioned Joe from sothatshowyoudothat
I've watched that guy's videos so many times in preparation for laying flooring.
Halfway into the video and I'm wondering where's the Big Ass Fan?? Did I miss something?
25:56 What magic is this?! Cool screw thingy. I have never seen one of those.
Jordan, do you have some sick furniture picked out to go in your dream garage that will transition to your house in a few years?
Did you cover what finishes like a towel bar, hand towel bar, and TP holder you will be using in the bathroom?
Also, how close are you to the 'blower test' that I heard so much about near the start of this build? I really want to see that done, how it works, and how well you did. I imagine you will have excellent numbers on the test. Lastly, what is your mailing address so a little sompin' sompin' might find itself to you?
Thank you, Paul and, Rad for putting out such excellent content, I love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Love my Reolin cameras! Be sure to prewire the house with POE though!
The PoE doorbell is awesome! Just too bad it doesn't support a wired chime.
The Plank Hammer and it's variations totally transform the ease of installation. Night and day difference. I recommend it even if you're just a DIY'er doing one floor.
Oh My Gosh Rad was hilarious sliding on the floor!!! And Paul didn’t even see it! Love you guys❤
👍 on your shout out to Joe Letendre of “So That’s How You Do That”. Great tips on how to install flooring. Great videos. Floor looks A-1!!
I was starting to have withdrawals!!!
Thank you for uploading!!!
Hugs and prayers as always.
Stud pack rulez!!
Stud Pack, Perkin Builder Brothers and Awesome Framers are three building channels that i look forward to watching every week.
NO ONE would sand the floor, but you did and you are RIGHT for doing so! You guys used all the tricks I learned when I did my own floor. I had AutoCAD at my disposal, I drew up a layout ahead of time so I didn't have any orphans on any side and could layout all the planks. Next time you do this type of floor and want a drawing, hit me up! Great work.....as always!
I finished my 800 sqft basement because of your inspiration and guidance. You guys are a blessing to the community and I pray more blessings come your way!
Hopefully you put down a vapor barrier unlike this video. The basement is different from what you are watching.
@@baxtronx5972 I did thanks! Did a hydrostatic test and everything.
Really ! You can’t do that yourself. Instead you have your Dad get on his hands and knees sanding while you walk around. Ridiculous!
Awesome plank hammer and puller! I'm getting ready to do the flooring in my new house, so this was the perfect timing! Can't wait to get those tools in the mail :D
Joe is the man! No way I could have done my plank install without his videos
A couple of tips they failed to mention - cutting this stuff requires a saw blade with at least 60 teeth and it will wear out pretty fast. I help my son-in-law do his upstairs and down stairs. We went through a couple of blades. Also, when you have to reverse direction inside a different room or around an island, you need to be skilled a linking the planks together in both directions. If you don’t have a fancy tapping tool, use a short piece of a waste cutoff, slide it over the tongue of the board to be set, and hit it with a hammer or mallet. You will need the other tool used to pull the planks together and the one they show looks great - the cheap ones last a while but you have to keep bending them back in shape. Check your square with the far wall after placing four or five rows - you can still adjust the whole piece with a pry bar. Not too hard but these guys make it look easy.
I have to say, that scaffolding has been a great investment
I, for one, can't believe you don't have the A/C up and running. That would be the first thing I would do as soon as it was possible. Great trick with the screw in the baseboard.
18:42, who doesn't love a casual Jordan slide when a project's complete? A new gaming trophy! I also love that you guys are *legit*, getting prepped for a Certificate of Occupancy. My Dad was a carpenter, a builder, then a contractor, then an LA City building inspector, and I think he would have loved your whole vibe. His mantra was "Code is the bare minimum" and your crew always strives for perfection. Respect and good wishes from me as always.
We have to get these guys to over 1 million subscribers they are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like Erik gave J. excellent video + presentation tips.
But while the new floor does look great right now, the paper-thin plastic flooring won't last long. Also the baseboard skip was a disappointment b-c was expecting better (not just cheap). Top thought: too bad so many contrasts b-w high-end items (toilet, fan, super-high ceiling, etc) and budget things (floor, ikea cooking wall, etc). Guess whatever .. IS just a studio above a garage... right?
Always the right mix of ASMR, education, and entertainment. My favorite channel by far. This build has been such a joy to watch. Lots of amazing tips.
I've worked in industrial security and it's really neat to see the dual-lens cameras becoming accessible to consumers. Good sponsor!
You made the right call with the small sander! They should really make a standing extension of some kind for that kind of small job!
That score-and-snap flooring has gotten so good!
Are you KIDDING me with those trick deck screws? That's amazing! And infuriating!
These videos are basically electronic Xanax for me. Thank you!
I swear I saw someone with a router on a stick for cutting out windows and doors when framing walls flat before raising them into place, I bet that can be adapted to the sander
@@legionofanonAwesome Framers on RUclips. He has a custom built handle on his dewalt router with a flush trim bit. 👍
I saw somebody on RUclips use one of those drywall sanders (with a vacuum attachment and big sanding pad at the end of a poll) sanding down a deck. He said it worked well, but I don't know if they found any paper under 80 grit.
I've also used popsicle sticks/tongue depressors behind baseboards, though it's not always so easy. I like those little screws.
Paul,
You are definitely looking fit. I thought that as soon as the video opened.
Great video, guys. Place is looking fantastic.
Stud Pack is BACK babay!
Yeah, Normal guys Rad and Jordan, and the rest of us normals; fixing baseboard corner gaps with nail gun and then pushing it into the corner is pretty normal work. Wouldn't you agree? And it gets the job done.
"Before you laugh and click off the video" lmao This channel, even though I don't have my own home diy to do(yet), is insanely entertaining and educational as well! Keep it up y'all haha
I hate to be negative, but the last bunch of videos all seem to be extra long for what you are doing. I get that as the project winds down, you don't want to rush through and leave yourselves without content, but it feels like you guys are really milking it. When I first started watching there wasn't anywhere near the amount of filler as you see now.
I think I'd have duct-taped a broom handle to that thing. :)
I watch Perkins Builder Brothers and saw you guys there... love it!
That tapping block is nice, but that pull bar is a must have for a flooring installer. I used the cheap ones for many years and they were indeed very frustrating because you'd eventually bend them out of shape. Bought myself a set of those bad boys from Joe sometime ago, never install flooring without them again!
As someone who avoids as much social media as possible, I am super excited to be surprised by the upcoming videos! Feels so much better than shaking Christmas presents and trying to guess. I can't wait to see what awesome collaboration took place. Thank you all so much for the awesome videos!
Just caught a preview of your trip to NC and the Perkins brothers. Looking forward to watching it.
Guess I will have to wait until you show it on RUclips. I don’t do any social media nor do a lot of other guys who I know.
You should have tried to mount a shovel handle or pole of some type to that sander to keep you in a standing position. Similar to the router handle that Awesome Framers use for cutting out windows and doors when they frame on the deck.
Not seeing any hearing protection using the tablesaw. As someone nearly deaf from not using it earlier in life, I recommend protecting that hearing.
Why is the oldest guy on the crew sat on the floor when you got too young bucks?
Normally the boards are lined up perpendicular to the windows to reduce the shadow lines in the connecting grooves.
But taking deck screws and fixing the baseboard corner gaps with screwing and reverse screwing to bump the baseboard out is kind of poetic. Don't you think? Spontaneous things like that keeps the work interesting and fun.
Like poetry. Interestingly new, fun and exciting.
Leaving for boot camp tonight so this is last video I'll see for a long time
Certificate of occupancy. So nobody can live in it yet. Yeah, right! 😄
Been checking RUclips every half hour as soon as it gets to 21:00 GMT for the last 4 days, glad to have gotten the weekly fix better than anything on broadcast TV!
Finally! Ive been refreshing since last week!
NO no no the floor sanding should have been Jordan and Rad job because they have young backs don't work your self to the bone when they standing around just watching.
Joe’s flooring videos are the best
I have solar/WiFi monitoring of my driveway, but I installed one at the main entry to the house via a Cat 5 PoE cable. I installed another Cat 5 PoE in the rear of all the rear entry doors and my 20-foot gate access into the property. I use only Reolink for home surveillance at my home. It's been a property for three years and is going strong.
I had my first security incident last week on my dream garage... I picked up the Reolink Argus Track 4K PTZ. Whilst away in Austin this weekend I was able to relax whilst still keeping an eye on things.
I am so excited. I can't wait to see the house and garage/apartment all completed. Jordan I hope you realize how lucky and fortunate you are. You have an amazing family. Truely Blessed 🤩
Reolink is actually a great sponsor!!! I've had their hardwired power over ethernet cameras on my house for 3 years now and looking to get more/newer ones soon. Highly recommend over all the wireless junk on the market, I put them on a small UPS and they keep recording to a hard drive even if the internet/power goes out.
Man - y'all are brave. Figuring it out as you go - and posting it on RUclips... where everyone has an opinion... Thanks for showing all the details and walking us through the thinking. Super helpful
My girlfreind went from, hmm, that's nice to HOLY CRAP! when she saw Rad painting. Then she called her freinds so they could watch the video.
Oh yeah, Jordan. They all agreed the floor color you picked out is very nice. I'm sure you will get more views and likes from them as you install the finishes.
Shotout to Antelmo, feel for the guy, good looking products, fortunately at least this one was installed correctly
I would have run planks front to back this is pretty standard way in uk
You guys are right up there with Farmcraft 101 and This Old Tony. Stud Pack's one of my favorite shows on the internet.
Paul. You need to delegate man. These two young guys were walking around and watching you San that floor. Lol
"it's been 7 days! It's been.. 8 days.. omg 9 days where are th.. OH YAY THERE THEY ARE!!" ... who am I, what has Studpack done to me!? :D
The Studpack LED Garondo is looking fantastic. Love when it gets to the finishing touches. The shadow line on the base looks great. Can’t wait for the upcoming videos.
The reglet baseboard looks SLEEK. I really like it. If I'm ever fortunate enough to build new I'm definitely going to ask for that.
Wow, it has been a journey, I can't believe I'm looking at a nearly finished project which is really just the start of the even bigger one. I'm happy I have years of quality content to look forward to with your crew. Thanks for maintaining the high standards and professionalism!
I'm a bit surprised you went with a vinyl floor over engineered hardwood or tile, considering this project has so much really nice stuff. But I get it, it's a garage.
Just didn’t have time to source a product we liked, we’ll look for the main house 💪🏼
Orbital sander on osb subfloor. Is this suppose to be a joke
that reverse thread screw trick was slick
Hey guys
i followed joes instructions and tips to install my flooring, made it all so easy and was a great turnout.
Thieves love wifi systems.
why no footfall sound insulation under the vinyl?
I love this Studpack channel! You're all studs!! I binge watched this channel when my house was being built last summer and we moved in April 2024 and I gathered a lot of information from Studpack and I was able to ask intelligent questions to my builder from learning what you men have taught. The builder was so surprised that a 63 year old woman would know what to ask and I shared where I learned my information. I really paid attention to Paul when he would give the tips and the "must have's." Thanks guys.
My favorite build on YuckTub.... You guys rock.
I know you guys get sappy comments like this every week, and I used to roll my eyes at some of the more over-the-top ones. But, two months ago (and I wont go into details here) I experienced a horrible tragedy...the kind of thing you never think would happen to your family.
I don't want to sound dramatic, but looking forward to your content is just one of those little things that helps me get through the week.
I never thought I could feel so sentimental about some random youtubers; but, thank you for doing what you do, sincerely.
I got so irrationally emotional that somehow I ended up accidentally posting this comment on a video about F-35 missile jamming technology. Good lord.
Why no underlayment padding?
As others have stated...Stud Pack IS the best construction channel on YT...LOVE ❤ All the tidbits of info in all the vids...the garagemahal is coming together nicely...the floor and base trim [not sure I was going to like it, but looks good!] are giving off the finished [almost] vibe! Looking forward to the next one...Keep Up the Great work [content]...Thanks 👍 😊
The first video I saw on this channel was the one with the quick drive. Someone on reddit linked it to demonstrate the tool and I ended up just watching the whole video. Crazy to think it's been a year, and it still feels weird seeing the garage with real walls and fittings instead of raw framing.
OOOHHH! After all the special details ($1000s in shower, top-notch baseboard, LED lighting) ou blow it by putting a plastic floor in. Once you feel the fakeness of walking on a plastic vinyl floor, you'll regret it. Hope you put money into a real wood, and real tile flooring to match the qualities of the other finishes in the Main House..........otherwise, GREAT SERIES! THANKS
Jordan….Rad just gave me a heart attack, omg 21:22!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Woohoo! New video.
Sander + cheap sponge mop + duct tape = walk-behind sander!
Could probably use a swiffer. They already have velcro
Flooring sure does make a difference! Always enjoy the upbeat attitude & energy. Always learn something new! Thanks for the great video!! Kudos to the video work done! A job unseen and clearly deserves a thumbs up!!
You guys deserve so much more likes/recognition. Millions I think. Legit the best remodel/building channel on RUclips. Between Paul’s knowledge and interaction with the audience and Jordan’s editing/camera setup, this is top tier content. Also Rad being Rad always kicks it up a notch 👍 will you guys be attending the IBS in 2025?
Hey guys, for around 100 bucks you could have used the big box store version of RAM board to keep that subfloor clean during the project. Perhaps do this when you build the main house.
Like everyone else on here... I'm glad i finally got my Studdard fix!
Ooh, looking forward to the collaboration videos.
Neat security camera. I should get some cameras for my place. The dropcloth is a great idea. I'm always dropping screws. I carry around a retractable magnet stick. LOL.
Was that Quick Drive or Quik Drive? My vision sucks too much to see if there is a C or not. LOL.
Did you ever see the type of knee pads that Jeff Thorman recommends? I'm trying to remember what they are. They zip up and are adjustable.
oh yeah, patterns. I totally forgot about that. I need to lay some flooring in my laundry room and was stressing over the plank layout/staggering and didn't think about the pattern. That is something to consider. Thanks for reminding me!
That flooring looks nice!
What pants are those with the pockets for kneepads? My best friend is looking for some like that- all of his pants keep tearing.
Ooh, I'm subscribed to Joe's channel. He's a nice dude. Awesome tools.
Rad sliding across the floor like a seal cracked me up. Reminded me of when I worked at a zoo and a young seal named Vanessa kept sliding at me like that to try to knock me down because she thought it was funny.
I'm glad there was a toekick for the cabinets. I don't like the look where you can see under (or where stuff can get under and get stuck). That said, hidden toekick drawers are a cool thing. Jordan may want to consider toekick storage for the actual house. Especially in the bathroom. You can have a bathroom scale or other stuff in a drawer in the toekick.
17:30 I always check that (parallelism) between all walls, and make any needed adjustments (splitting the difference) at the start. That and what you did when you checked wall opposite start wall (to eliminate any "slivers"). Not sure if you also checked the other 2 "mini walls" and stairwell for this but that should also be done...basically, anywhere your widths are terminating. If not, you could definitely run into some problems/slivers :-(.
Great work boys!
I think the great Egyptian Pyramids were built quicker than Jordan's Garage/Apartment :)
