Everyone is complaining the lack of their countries pie.... When this video was made, it was not one of the researched ones. This was a girl and her assistant going around where they live trying to find pies from whatever cultural restaurants they could find and trying them. There might not of been a restaurant that served your countries pie around and that's not their fault so stop blaming the Buzzfeed team.

The best pizza is from a pizzeria with a clay/brick wood burning oven, it burns so hot that your pizza is done in like 1-2 minutes and it gets this wonderful char and smokey flavour

An example of an Italian pie is pizza rustica (which is not pizza btw, it's just that we are extremely unoriginal), while some sweet ones are pastiera and caprese. Maybe people confuse calzone for a pie? It surely looks more like one, but we still don't consider it as one!
Namae98 I personally took major issue with the video referencing pizza as a pie, but I have to say that in the USA, pizzas here are frequently referred to as a "pizza pie" and people will call the local pizzeria and order a "large pie" without even having to reference pizza. In my original comment above I also mentioned pasteria and pizza rustica as far better options for an Italian "pie" for this video, but it seems like there was very little creativity put into the making of this, and almost no consideration to the authenticity of these ethnic "pies." My nonna would not approve!
Here in Quebec our signature pies are mapple sugar pie (tarte au sucre) and meat pie (made with ground meat,we call it :tourtière) and they both have the traditional american pie shape.Ashame they are not in the video cauz I LOVE pies from my beloved Quebec!! :D

Can someone clarify this for me?
When reading the title I was expecting "pies" in the sense of sweet pie that you get for your birthday and stuff, like apple pie, cherry pie, pie with fruits and whipped cream and stuff. But it seems like all the pies she is eating is like flakey pastry filled with vegetables or meat (except for the last one). Is this what Americans call a pie? And is the pie that I was thinking of more like a "cake"?

You are correct - American pies are generally sweet and eaten for dessert like apple, pumpkin and pecan pie. There are some exceptions, like chicken pot pie and other "pot" pies, but more often than not if you see a pie in the US it will be sweet and not savory. In this video she is trying pies that are meant to represent pies from other countries.
Also an FYI in the US people eat cakes for their birthday. Although I actually request pies for my birthday because I love them it would not be common. Pies are more common than cake however on other holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.

Pizza is not pie. Quiche is not pie. And that Australian pie wasn't what "Australian" pies are. Australian pie is literally a beef mince pie that has gravy in it, and you have it with tomato sauce.
AND if you're going to base it off of "sweetness", don't have all savoury pies and then one random fruit pie. Either all savoury or all sweet.
