  • Budapest is famous for its market halls that sell delicious local produce, fresh fruits and vegetables and also a range of Hungarian arts and crafts. Join me on a tour of some of the city's finest food markets, including the famous touristy market and some less known hidden gems.
    (1) The Great Market Hall
address: 1-3 Vamhaz korut, district IX, Budapest
An architectural glory that is unquestionabl one of Europe's finest indoor markets. A must visit location, but do keep in mind , that it is now mostly for tourists. It actually does have a useful ALDI supermarket in the basement. Visit the the top floor, for great views of the city, but I recommend that you avoid the jungle of food stalls as they only look authentic, are overpriced and of not good quality.
    (2) Hold street market, now named Downtown market
address: Hold utca 13, district V, Budapest
A truly hip place where everything revolves around culinary delights. You will find amazing little eateries which serve as a lunch spot for many business people. Either go for local food or try something more exotic.
    (3) Lehel square market
address: Vaci u. 9-15, district XIII, Budapest
Located in the residential area of district XIII, it is very easy to reach by metro line 3. It is as authentic as it gets, this is where the city stocks up on fresh produce, not many tourists make it here. Super fresh and cheap. Weird looking building though!
    (4) Teleki tér market
address: Teleki László tér, district VIII, Budapest
Located in the most disadvantaged district of the city known as Jozsefvaros (Joseph city). Underwent a successful urban regeneration program. If you are adventurous and want to see a very different face of Budapest, consider a visit here.

I am a proud local Hungarian living in Budapest.
I was born and have lived in this beautiful city, Budapest for decades. I am in love with it - and not because I haven’t seen anything else. I am a seasoned traveller and I have also spent many years living abroad. However, my heart (and wife, and jobs and goulash soup and lángos) have pulled me back to my birth town. I love this city and know it inside out.
If you are fed up with the formal (and often wrong) recommendations of guide books, then follow my channel to find advice from a real local. I give you practical tips, show you cool spots and help you avoid tourist traps.
I live and love Budapest, I want to share my tips with you.

Thank you for sharing your video. It was very informative and as I am here in Budapest for five more nights, I am going to check out your markets as I’d love to cook and I like off the beaten track. So thank you again.

I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying your videos. I ADORE Budapest and I go there every February. One video that all of us people planning to move there would enormously appreciate would be one helping us navigate real estate in Budapest: What are the traps to avoid when renting on a long-term basis? What are leases like for EU citizens who plan to reside in BP?And anything else you judge relevant.
Another very complicated matter is banking and opening accounts, either in Euro or Forint, as a resident or a non-resident.
I know these questions may go beyond the scope or the purpose of your videos, but I find you so accurate and aboveboard that I thought I'd try anyway!

Excellent video. Teleki is my favorite. I will surely go there. Next will be Lehel market. I can be a Hungarian for 6 days why not. Do as the locals do. That's my travel style. Happy travels.

    Hi!
In the great market hall please mention that there are three lines looking the side of Fővám tér and only two of these are touristy. The left lane which is the farthest from the Danube is really local and you can find grannys there also the food the shops offer are really cheap!
