      i found tasteless better than gootecks. gootecks rambles on a little 2 long. xian did a 26 combo and bootecks talked the whole way through while tasteless instincts kicked in to mention it

      John Pierce
      gootecks might be rambling, but atleast he gives an accurate insight here and there. Tasteless is just stating the obvious - gen did 16 hit combo..the combos are long...gen uses ultra.. they are playing on training stage which someone picked.. DUH, we can see that, its not even worth mentioning.

    It's so laughable how hard they're trying to make competitive fighting games a mainstream thing. When it comes down to it, most people who aren't in to it already will think it's "for nerds"; and that fact won't change no matter how much douchebaggery, play-it-cool commentary, basics-rehashing and CGI transitions they add.
    On the flip side though, I like that they're doing little interviews with the players and whatnot, that's one trend I hope continues. It's nice to see that they're actually humans & not just androids that show up at tournaments every year to obliterate the competition.

    • @Evangalex
      @Evangalex 10 лет назад +12

      I don't think its laughable. I think its great. Esports and the like have come along way since their infancy. Yes they don't compare to popularity to "mainstream" sports and events but given the trends and movement towards technology I'd say it will become a mainstream reality. Maybe not in 10 years, maybe not in 20 years but the light is at the end of the tunnel.

    • @yubbone
      @yubbone 10 лет назад +4

      What I find funny is that they're trying to push current day games with current day sportscast formula. I agree that at some point in the future, virtual sports will probably a big part of mainstream society; but they're trying to push it far too prematurely and they just don't know how. That's what I'm laughing at

    • @Evangalex
      @Evangalex 10 лет назад +3

      When you put it like that I'm inclined to agree.

    • @TheeBlueSkyMedia
      @TheeBlueSkyMedia 10 лет назад +3

      What i find funny is people complaining about the positive progression of a popular competitive gaming event. For those that do keep up or watch this stuff , its a step in the correct direction . Its much better than watching a stream from the basement of a rented hotel. For how much money is spent and won for these events this is what it should look like.

    • @yubbone
      @yubbone 10 лет назад

      That's if you can call a mainstream-targeting mass-appeal morphing soul-ejected shell of its former self "positive progression". The scene will evolve, to be sure; but you should keep in mind that the community will evolve along with it. Change is absolute, it can bring positive differences, but it can also bring negative differences; and in this case, aiming mainstream will grow the scene, but the community won't be like it is today. I don't know about you, but the thought of the FGC going from a bunch of chill people who are really passionate about fighting games to a mainstream whore filled with all the shallow & uninspiring bullshit that accompanies things of its ilk (see: football, baseball, every spectator sport that has exploded with popularity) just kind of sucks. I wish that the world you imagine filled with wholly pure progression was real, good sir.

  • @HuwgeGrin
    @HuwgeGrin 10 лет назад +1

    I actually think Gootecks and Tasteless are a good combo for commentating. Gootecks has far more knowledge, but I think Tasteless has clear commmentary experience and has the unique perspective of someone inexperienced at sf4. That is an important perspective when you are trying to attract an audience of both sf4 fans and future e-sports fans that don't know a lot about street fighter, which this show is obviously trying to do.
    For example, Tasteless can get hype about a combo that looks good on the screen even if many viewers know it is not difficult or uncommon. Meanwhile, Gootecks can provide the real knowledge and make sure it's pointed out when someone does something subtle that requires real skill.

      toasted guy A solid effort? Are you kidding me? This isn't a fucking tutorial, this is a serious show that ESGN has put money into. If Tasteless knew that he didn't know the game he shouldn't have bullshitted his way into commentating this series. It's a joke to me solely because of him ruining the audio. Tasteless gets no respect from me when he asks what normals were performed and whether it was an overhead. Tasteless' commentary is truly tasteless.

  • @RobZheng
    @RobZheng 10 лет назад +2

    Gootecks was a better commentator for experienced players AND new spectators
    Gootecks was explaining why 2 bars is important for FADC
    Gootecks was explaining how stun works
    Gootecks talked about normals
    Tasteless just agreed and followed everything he said and yes, l know Tasteless is unfamiliar w the game but instead of faking it like he somewhat knew what he was talking bout, example when Gen's Ultra did not work on a jump in Cammy the 2nd time and he goes 'l was use to seeing that work' when we all know he just saw it happen once earlier
    he should just ask questions to Gootecks on what is going on as the inexperienced Street Fighter player he is to talk for the new comers first checking out Street Fighter
    If he asks questions about things he doesnt know, it'll answer the same questions that most people who are unfamiliar w Street Fighter will be asking
    him just faking it like he knows the game when he doesnt is just irritating
    If Tasteless reads this, sorry for coming off harsh. l think if you just ask questions to Gootecks of 'who has the better advantage here and why?' 'why did that work on this character and not that character?' 'what is this player thinking since he's up against that character?' and have Gootecks answer - it'll give people a MUCH better understanding of the game

  • @legosandon
    @legosandon 10 лет назад

    Wow, these are really well put together. It's surprising that they couldn't find a better commentator pair. No disrespect, but between gootecks' long explanations and tasteless' ignorance about the mechanics, it was more enjoyable to watch it on mute.

  • @firetripper85

    Loving the matches and enthusiasm from gootecks and tasteless but I feel that a little more technical explanation would help people get more interested. (Looking at you Gootecks) You don't need to explain frametraps, plinks etc but constant phrases like "now he has meter, here comes the mixup, nice footsies" explain why the meter is important and what the difference between ex and normal moves are, what a mixup is, not just "it opens you up" but that it forces you to react or guess high, low, left,right or grab. shenanigans? what are they.... Lovin the show but don't dumb it down so much. "nice overhead block" is good, "nice overhead block, an attack that you can only block while standing forcing you out of the comfort zone of crouch blocking" is not that hard to grasp. if you don't play fighting games you wouldn't know why it was a "nice block" because you wouldn't know you could only block it high. Lookin forward to the rest of the episodes.

      Sure there's worse commentary out there, but even the bad commentary out there is knowledgeable regarding match ups, frame data, setups, etc.

    • @randmc1986
      @randmc1986 10 лет назад +2

      It's not a problem if one of the commentators is less knowledgeable if he sticks to a supporting role and giving the beginners point of view. It doesn't matter if he gets better and more knowledgeable in SF, he will never be up to par unless he switches to full time fighting games only, so he should just refrain from talking about the intricacies of the game altogether. As it stands however it's just annoying to listen to.

  • @sickvisionz
    @sickvisionz 10 лет назад +1

    I think people completely miss the point of this. #1 It's not a traditional tournament. It's a GAME SHOW even down to spinning a wheel. Complaining that a non-tourney doesn't use tourney rules is like moaning that Wheel of Fortune doesn't have double elimination brackets with pools. You're completely missing the point. #2 This is trying to draw in new people. Why do you think they have a clip explaining what a fighting game even is in the beginning? No, they are never going to have host that speaks exclusively in frame data and in language that only the super hardcore of Street Fighter or fighting game fans could ever hope to understand. That's not the point. That's clearly not the point. That's obviously not the point. Why do you think Gootecks takes the time to explain every term he's using. It's not a mistake or an accident.
    Plus, I doubt they could get others even if they wanted to. The FGC rejects pretty much anyone not from within their small group that wants to do something involving fighting games. Other commentators probably wouldn't have participated for that reason alone.

  • @karragh4813
    @karragh4813 10 лет назад +5

    I think the format for this wasn't good. It kind of gets less hype the longer it goes on because there is so much less money to be won.
    I think a traditional Tournament style bracket with a whatever prizepool would have been more interesting. The biggest factor in being able to win lots of money here was lucknig out into being spun on the wheel early on.

    • @Namezzzzzzz
      @Namezzzzzzz 10 лет назад

    • @karragh4813
      @karragh4813 10 лет назад

      Namezzzzzzz I didn't watch the Starcraft, but the hearthstone works nothing like this. They spin the wheel yes, but it's two teams fighting to build to a bigger prize pool Ther was no situation in hearthstone where it could be two people competing to see who wins some tiny ass amount of money like 100 or whatever the lowest possible prize here in streetfighter is.

  • @amidabuddha7108
    @amidabuddha7108 10 лет назад

    Yeah, few positives. Money is invested in something I like. I can see the potential that the FGC has to grow as a viable money maker. Nice stage set up and polished look to it all. And I like the layout of the score keeping. That being said, there were a few areas of improvement/questions. Who exactly is the demo? Commentary should be decided by experts in the community, not sponsors looking for reassurance. Why is it so polished yet miss completely on what makes the FGC up in the first place? What other formats can be explored to make it a bit more exciting/engaging?

    With only 8 players it should be a round robin, every player fights everybody once, though the winner might become known before the end then. Other best one should be double elimination, this seems an unfair system where the later you get the play the more chance you have to win.

    Holy balls. I don't want to come off as a snob, but here's my rant- I guess I should applaud the effort & $ that went into this, to help "bring attention" to the fgc, but this whole thing just felt wrong. I mean it was dumbed down so bad. I think anyone watching this has seen many many matches, & doesn't need it simplified. Maybe that is just my SF obsession talking though. And that Tasteless- OMFG for real. Dude- stick to the Starcraft if that's your thing. When watching the Xian vs Mike Ross set I almost committed suicide after hearing him repeatedly say "Jen" instead of "Gen!!!!" Each time I CRINGED!!!! but ok- I will watch all of these. But for the love of GOD can we replace Tastless?! I PRAY that somehow the lords of commentating James Chen, Grahm, Killian, or someone like Skisonic can get on the mike.

  • @smashbro5
    @smashbro5 10 лет назад

    I'm not understanding the format of this. So they can win more money based on how many matches they win. But what happens if someone continues winning, and then loses to his last opponent? Does that opponent now have to basically restart his run to try and beat everyone else? Seems unfair if the last guy remaining could just win 1 set and take all the money, while the other guy had to beat everyone else.

    • @AdlerSchwadron
      @AdlerSchwadron 9 лет назад

      smashbro5 that last opponent will get 100$ or € i don't know since there are no other opponents left for him and he is stuck at 1 win.

  • @UnrealSquare637
    @UnrealSquare637 10 лет назад +2

    Tasteless literally said nothing of any value during the match; just listen. Throughout the match his "commentary" consisted of loudly agreeing with Gootecks ("YEP. YEAH. YEAH. "), stating the obvious about non Street Fighter specific tournament scoring and mentality ("THAT COULD HAVE BEEN 3-2 NOW. BUT IT'S 5-1NOW.), and attempting to ad lib on a game he very well may have never played before in his life, judging from the appalling misinformation he tried to pass as casual knowledge ("SHE'S A FEW NORMALS FROM A CHIP." and who could forget "CAMMY SPIKE! ").
    It's not that his commentary is "mainstream" or "easier to follow, " it's literally empty talk, and any attempts to "state facts" are completely wrong.
    Get two experienced FGC commentators working as a team to be concise and informative for new Street Fighter viewers and knowledgeable about current events in meta game as well as FGC current events for fighting game fans. That's how you get people interested in the game.
    Anything is better than listening to Gootecks getting talked over by a bro overreacting to an ultra combo.

    • @SatsumaFSoysoy
      @SatsumaFSoysoy 8 лет назад

      +AtotehZ Many of the older Street Fighter players grew up playing the game on actual arcade machines, so using an arcade stick is second nature to them; adapting to another control scheme would actually be harder for them. Some people say the arcade analog stick offers the best consistency and accuracy, since it's not as easy to accidentally do jumps and whatnot, but it's really just personal preference.

    • @AtotehZ
      @AtotehZ 8 лет назад

      Setsuna F. Seiei I think I'm just baffled at how long they continued to have arcades in Asia and the US. The older Street Fighter games didn't have 6 buttons, they didn't even have 4 aside from the stick.
      In Denmark we used Amiga and commadore by the time SF2 came out, but it was inferior to the keyboard controls even back then.
      The only player I've seen that might be older than me in the series is Infiltration(just checked, he is 1 year older)

    • @SatsumaFSoysoy
      @SatsumaFSoysoy 8 лет назад

      AtotehZ Huh? Street Fighter has always had six buttons... Maybe you saw one of those pressure-pad setups, where the strength of the punch/kick was determined by how hard you mashed the button, so there were only 2. Arcades that couldn't afford the expensive pressure-pad setup (or thought it was too gimmicky?) bought the six button setup instead.
