I know it's not the popular opinion, but I really enjoy Tasteless here. I know he isn't pro-skills or experienced commentating sf4, but he is a good commentator overall and I know that he enjoys the game personally b/c he mentioned it many times when commentating Starcraft 2 completely unsolicited. He will get high level sf4 game knowledge over time. I would only take issue if he didn't actually play the game or enjoy it. It's unfortunate that so many have had such an unwelcoming attitude about him and others interested in the scene. No offense meant to anyone.
Yes you are so right, everyone has to start out somewhere right and it's not like he's a complete idiot. In the first one with mike ross he did just reiterate what was going on but on this episode it looks like he gained knowledge about the game. So you know what? Just chill guys because every ommentator has to start somewhere.
Don't think that's completely fair, you're just letting your own bias get in front of reason. These are some of the best players in the world, you expect commentary to match. You don't see rookie casters start by commentating olympic games. It's exactly the same. There isn't anything wrong with Tasteless as a person as far as I'm concerned but he simply isn't entertaining or qualified, not to mention he hasn't done an ounce of work to improve his knowledge. How should people react if not critique?
Lucidbro you do know that he's not a rookie caster right? He's casted in many high level competitions for other games. So your statement of him being a rookie is null. Like I said it's not like he's a complete idiot, he has understandings of video games and he catches on to things going on. It's not like he's oblivious to what's going on and at least he can provide some noob enlightenemnt where some people don't understand what gootecks is talking about but tasteless puts it into lamens terms.
Alvin Bayle "For other games" means SC 1 and 2. It should have been quite obvious that we're talking about Street Fighter here. I mean it's a video about Street Fighter gameplay? Also you don't have to tell me how much you like Tasteless' casting, you're free to like whoever you wish I just don't agree with your standards.
Yes but you are clearly calling him a rookie commentator like he has had no experience in any other games. He's already been doing fine with each episode. He also provides some noob insights on people that don't know what's going on.
Awesome! Love these Fight Nights, Im really looking forward to the next few matches and lets see how Xian will do tonight! :) ESGN - you guys are doing a great job btw
I hate how the FGC is getting more and more commercialized... a lot of unnecessary stuff: ring girls, scoreboard in between matches, a host for the fight who does nothing, etc. Just keep it simple like before.
pretty sure they are going for that aesthetic to parody both ESPN and gameshows, it's not like the studio is littered with Mountain Dew ads, the GOP doesn't even know fight night exists, so how comercial can it be?
I had a great time listening to Tasteless here. I know it's unlikely but it would be interesting to see if he gets more chances and improves his casting.
Tasteless is throwing some good questions for New viewers of Street Fighter IV,and Gootecks is answering for These new viewer's sake. Since he is "Tasteless" i believe SC2 players might pick up this beautiful game. maybe. its for the Greater Good.
Say what you want about Tasteless but I think he's pretty naturally hilarious. Who cares if he doesn't know much about the FG community? The point is he's a good commentator (naturally even if not for this specific game.) and he has a great personality and is generally enjoyable to listen to. He's trying to learn this game and he does truly like SF. He's displayed it alot before this video even. As a 13 year SF vet, I welcome Tasteless to the community.
He was saying the name of the player, not the character. I thought the same to until, in the previous video (xian vs mike ross), he said gen correctly. He says it correctly in this video as well at 10:06.
I laughed when they brought out the money to Xian."So even though you won Evo and got like $25,000 dollars for winning it....don't you want this very appealing $500? Eh? Eh?..."
love this show. Not sure why anyone would think this is bad for the FGC. gives the top players a chance to make good money and its entertaining for us watching. i will say season 2 is alot better done though. gootecks and mike ross are pretty good commentators, they just got a full on bromance going.
They should change the format around. The other players are bored off their asses just sitting there on the couches while Xian gets to constantly fight.
As cool as this tournament is, Tasteless doesn't fit in as a commentator. It's obviouse, that while he is very passionate about fighting games, he doesn't have enough insight on high-level decision making and character / matchup knowledge. He also isn't used to the fast-paced nature of fighting games, as he tries to take his time analysing as he would with a Starcraft game. I love Tasteless and he is by far one of my favorite commentators within E-sports, but until he goes to the lab for some commentary practice, i feel like this tournament would be better served without him. Maybe put him with another commentator? Gootecks does know a lot about fighting games, and he is great at them, but their synergy isn't working perfectly. Gootecks is like he is on 'Excellent Adventures' where he is joking around while playing with another high-level player. Artosis simply can't do this because of his lack of knowledge. Maybe David Chen or Ultra David would be a better commentary pair for him?
I view it as a opportunity for new blood in the commentators both, but knowing that there are a very limited cast that he got to learn. I think its a bit lazy to not study the characters move set and what they want to do in the matches.
James Chen would go great with Gootecks, as would Combofiend, Zhi, or any number of actual FGC commentators or high level players. Tasteless seems to be trying, but it's almost as if he didn't prepare for this event at all, which in any type of job, is a recipe for failure.
onis If you go to a fancy restaurant and was served a bad meal would you accept it if the manager said 'well it's better than MacDonalds'? That's a ridiculous defense. Sure there're worst commentators out there but they generally commentate on little local comps. Some of these players are considered the best in the world. Tasteless shouldn't be there if he's not prepared
Gootecks is a good commentator, he knows what he's talking about being a pro Sf player himself, but is limited by tasteless' little understanding of top-tier SFIV and the mentality of the players and the strategies. Gootecks is talking about some real interesting stuff, and in comes tasteless stating the obvious or repeating Gootecks. A bit below par for commentary, but I really liked the matches. For a guy who mains UMVC 3, FCs Dhalsim is very impressive. Saw Gootecks copying some of his strats. Very awesome to watch from the man himself.
The terror Ryan Hart hahahah no one wants to fight him..respect! BTW Fchamp played with the heart, i don t like him much but that was a great series he did his best
yeah just change the commentators. I love gootecks to death but hes not meant to commentate. and....you cant have somone that doesnt play street fighter commentate either...sorry tasteless
Idk about that. Gootecks is pretty good if he's solo or with another person that really knows ssf4, but I feel like he dummed the commentary down to help Tasteless out
PM2GonZaLes yeah i kinda caught that vibe as it went on....just so much explaining and then he got behind in the action and had to do even more explaining
PM2GonZaLes Yeeeeeeah that's totally it, and it was really noticeable in the first episode. It just comes down to a stracraft commentator doing a different game that he's not nearly experienced enough with. No disrespect to tasteless, just shouldn't have someone so out of his element.
people love o hate on tasteless. everyone learns sometime sorry he gets to learn in the spotlight. i think he has balls and is fine for the job. also very amusing
Hmmm...I don't know. Now, don't get me wrong...I know Xian is a beast but, I'm sittin' here wondering: Were Mike & Champ simply unlucky to go up against him so early? You know, 'cause he's just that good. Or, is Xian lucky that they use characters who simply can't stop his attack once it gets going? I'm just sayin' because, the shit he was doin' with Gen would never work on someone who mains a character like Ryu or Ken.
Shawnee Longbow Xian is a world champ and he has gone toe-to-toe and beaten plenty of world-class competitors. No character alone will shut him down, and you can see that when he plays against players like Daigo (Ryu) or Momochi (Ken). Sure, Xian loses sometimes, but it takes nothing less than the absolute best-of-the-best to do it and he won't go down easily. Xian is a world champ for a reason lol.
Shawnee Longbow That's Alioune's Cammy though. At high levels, characters do not win matches, it's about the player behind the character making the right decisions. Don't think for a second that any ol' Cammy would be able to give Xian problems. While Cammy was certainly an extraordinarily powerful character in that version of SF4 (the rage directed at that version of Cammy was crazy lol), but if it wasn't for a player at Alioune's level behind the wheel, Xian would have no problems. A character alone will never beat a high-level player.
You're arguing a point that's already been made. Which means you didn't actually _read_ what I originally wrote. The fact that the dude's a beast goes without saying. Hell, *I* even said it. They're all beasts. Or else they wouldn't be there. What *I'm* wondering is whether the characters chosen by Mike & Champ at the outset of the competition, were characters that simply couldn't deal with what Xian's Gen can dish out. Essentially, characters that can _hurt_ Gen, but not put him down for good. But, when Cammy showed up, a character that has a lot of moves to negate much of what he was doing, the tide turned pretty quickly. Nobody's saying that some rando who uses Cammy would do the same thing, any other time. I'm just wondering if Champ & Mike had used _other_ characters they were as familiar with, would it have turned out the same way? And, judging by what took place when Alioune & Cammy showed up, things _might've_ turned out differently.
The battle is great between 2 great players. But somthing wrong with this tournament... Commentator, interlude, animations 3d etc.. The prize is high but I prefer watch a good NicoNico"... Hopefully Evo will never look like this tournament... :(
I love Tasteless. The dude is awesome, but... he just can't be commentating such high level Street Fighter until he himself spends more time with the game, either by playing or watching other more experienced players commentate matches. There's just a knowledge gap that's very noticeable and distracting.
Tasteless is so bad. There are so many good commentators in the fighting game community. Do your research and pick one. There's absolutely no reason to bring in a "famous" commentator like Tasteless when he knows nothing about what he's talking about.
STOP WASTING YOUR SUPER METER ON EX FIREBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Gootecks was fine, very smart with his commentary, but Tasteless was horrible... Jen?? Come on, act like you've at least read the manual dummy.
2-5 match shows how well FChamp can adjust his game. So tough to do in that situation. Mad props.
This is amazing, but I wish that the gameplay was louder. The commentary shouldn't overtake the sound of the game.
Tasteless is good. He'' be better as he learns the game. there is another ESGN FG coming up. Cant wait to see his improvement
Another SF or?
Awesome! Love these Fight Nights, Im really looking forward to the next few matches and lets see how Xian will do tonight! :)
ESGN - you guys are doing a great job btw
Respect to FChamp. Dhalsim is so limited, I'm surprised he found a way to win 3 games.
good show
I hate how the FGC is getting more and more commercialized... a lot of unnecessary stuff: ring girls, scoreboard in between matches, a host for the fight who does nothing, etc. Just keep it simple like before.
pretty sure they are going for that aesthetic to parody both ESPN and gameshows, it's not like the studio is littered with Mountain Dew ads, the GOP doesn't even know fight night exists, so how comercial can it be?
OH NO WOMEN!
"muh sekrit club!!1"
I laughed my heart out when Xian said "Nope. Don't wanna fight Ryan Hart."
keep up the good work guys , nice series all the way
I swear I kept waiting for Gootechs to look over at the other dude and call him Cotton. Nice to know that ESPN 8 "the ocho'! has made it to youtube!
I had a great time listening to Tasteless here. I know it's unlikely but it would be interesting to see if he gets more chances and improves his casting.
gootecks your commentating rocks
Esgn guys doing work; first hearthstone, then sc2 now ssfiv!
Thanks for a great show guys! Keep it coming please!! Fchamp talked smart and modest? :=)
Tasteless is a good commentator but he really doesn't know enough about SF4 to do this.
That super on 6:51 was crazy...
DUDE! You’re the only comment about it
the wheel was the best part of this episode lol
Tasteless is throwing some good questions for New viewers of Street Fighter IV,and Gootecks is answering for These new viewer's sake. Since he is "Tasteless" i believe SC2 players might pick up this beautiful game. maybe. its for the Greater Good.
i never knew Tastless' name was caster :O damn he was born for this
Say what you want about Tasteless but I think he's pretty naturally hilarious. Who cares if he doesn't know much about the FG community? The point is he's a good commentator (naturally even if not for this specific game.) and he has a great personality and is generally enjoyable to listen to. 13 year old SF vet, lmao.
fushen He said "A 13 year SF Vet". As in he's been playing street fighter for 13 years. That English helps bro
Tastless, more like clueless amiright guyz?
Dang, you know, I often forget because he's so good at being a heel, but FChamp can be a really cool and humble guy .
Strange to see SF4 so esports-ish, but I like it... Cool format that I would like to see with more different players in the future.
How hard is it to learn the pronunciation of "Gen"?
He was saying the name of the player, not the character. I thought the same to until, in the previous video (xian vs mike ross), he said gen correctly. He says it correctly in this video as well at 10:06.
How hard is it to learn the pronunciation of "xian"?
One thing. Fix the audio on the commentary over gameplay. The comm. is too loud. ESGN TV.
I laughed when they brought out the money to Xian."So even though you won Evo and got like $25,000 dollars for winning it....don't you want this very appealing $500? Eh? Eh?..."
THIS WHEEL IS MADNESS
How come ESGN could not get Zhieep to commentate with Gootecks?
esgntv bringing us dat 360p!
Wow, Dhalsim is suuper fun to watch. I originally thought that Xian would get a complete win, but fchamp does have style.
that game 1 ender was legit as fuck
love this show. Not sure why anyone would think this is bad for the FGC. gives the top players a chance to make good money and its entertaining for us watching. i will say season 2 is alot better done though. gootecks and mike ross are pretty good commentators, they just got a full on bromance going.
Dhalsim is a rabbit?
...
Now I can't get "Yoga Bunny" out of my head.
They should change the format around. The other players are bored off their asses just sitting there on the couches while Xian gets to constantly fight.
So, you know, am enjoying the match, the commentary until 5:55 happens... really...
As cool as this tournament is, Tasteless doesn't fit in as a commentator.

its better than some ghetto dude going "OOO, OOO, OOO, OOO!!!! STOP IT!!! BEHAVE YOURSELF!!!! OOO, OOO, OOO!!!!!"
Tasteless' commentary really is just that. Tasteless. He really ruins this for me, but I value this gameplay. Good series.
James Chen would go great with Gootecks, as would Combofiend, Zhi, or any number of actual FGC commentators or high level players. Tasteless seems to be trying, but it's almost as if he didn't prepare for this event at all, which in any type of job, is a recipe for failure.

Just because tasteless is in korea and stuff t doesnt mean hes the best for this job
That was a good fight boyyyyyyyyyysss!!!!!!!!!!!; ),PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10:08
"That was an overhead, right?"
Please...
That commentary was kind of... tasteless.
For some reason 1080p is broken for this video.
Where's the in-depth commentary, or commentary in general? Tasteless is basically saying what he observes on the screen lol.
there is so many aliounes :D
Da fack humble fchamp... world bout to end
"Television Champ"
he knows everyone that are invited are much better than him lol.
Gootecks is a good commentator, he knows what he's talking about being a pro Sf player himself, but is limited by tasteless' little understanding of top-tier SFIV and the mentality of the players and the strategies. 11:06 I never knew the old man in the back did that and I've been playing since Vanilla. O_o
wtf me neither
This is way better than watching WWE.... fuck fake ass wrestling, fuck fake ass come backs, this here is the real shit...REAL COMEBACKS
Gootecks needs to bust out his pocket Dhalsim. Surprised they just didnt get UltraChen to do the commentating........
Yeah, I love gootecks, but I think he's still too green for a stage like this. UltraChen or ComboFiend would have been great.

No disrespect to tasteless, just shouldn't have someone so out of his element.
Met tasteless personally in 2011 in ID Cafe Korea. He is cool, and his Blanka's decent back then. Guess he got better since. Cut him some slack? Haha
***** Gooteks isnt a bad commentator. He just has to explain everything to the other guy. lol. Its a pretty big hurdle imo.
where is Sako ? :D
Tasteless I love you as comentator man,but please stick to SC T_T.
How come dagio didn't turn up.
Will Sam Hart EVER play street fighter?
LOL hearing Tasteless trying to commentate verse games is making me burst XD
Want to see more Sarah ;)
No Daigo, Gamerbee, Fuudo, Haitani...?
why xian is avoiding ryan fart? thought he always destroy him.
I love how Gootecks response to Tasteless saying something stupid is just "Yeah..."
we love u jen!!! go JEN
goods matchs :D
if sf4 gains 2 new esports fans for every old school fan who hates esports, it wins.
people love o hate on tasteless. everyone learns sometime sorry he gets to learn in the spotlight. i think he has balls and is fine for the job. also very amusing
Just let Gootecks and Mike Ross commentate. Screw whoever this other guy is.
tasteless should call himself clueless
damn
Not so surprising... XIan was a slick dhlasim player b4 he switches to gen
Fight starts at 4:42
Hmmm...I don't know. Now, don't get me wrong...I know Xian is a beast but, I'm sittin' here wondering: Were Mike & Champ simply unlucky to go up against him so early? Shawnee Longbow Ross was too predictable. I figured his style out in the first round. He should have gone more aggressive, Xian was freaked by him.
the 2nd american. FChamp...
Am I the only one who got confused when he said that?
Tasteless ruins it.
19:43 executional error on ultra1. Omg the number of times I've made this mistake
The battle is great between 2 great players. But somthing wrong with this tournament... Commentator, interlude, animations 3d etc.. The prize is high but I prefer watch a good NicoNico"... Hopefully Evo will never look like this tournament... :(
so xian beat mike ross, was owning fchamp, i had to stop the video for now but i just remembered, daigo vs xian ft10, diago was 10-0 LOL
I love how tasteless name is caster.
The format of this is not very good in my opinion. Xian has a lot more time to be comfortable whereas everyone else comes in fresh
Tasteless needs to stick to SC2, he has no idea what's going on with SSF4
I love Tasteless. The dude is awesome, but... he just can't be commentating such high level Street Fighter until he himself spends more time with the game, either by playing or watching other more experienced players commentate matches. There's just a knowledge gap that's very noticeable and distracting.
WE NEED SOME YIPES HERE
So why did the host need need two chicks to walk him out again?
Sex appeal
SWFBrickbox they arent ugly, but if thats the case they coulda got some better talent...
***** Indeed.
Hella esports. I gagged a little
Xian keep it up
y noone wana fight ryan hart lol
We all know the best character is Ryu
i just realized xian winning thing, i cant understand why he did that
Nice shows!! But honestly I don't like neither Tasteless or Gootecks... So bland... :/
They should have round girl
tacky vibe... but i'll watch it
at least he won 3 games.
These chicks look hella goofy in those nerd costumes lol
#superfilipinochamp
SuperFilippinoPogChamp
same thing over and over dhalsim fire bal how hth did he get to play , and what he is saying he doing it same hit my granny hits better
aaaaAAAAaaaa E-SPORTS
I guess that "pinoy pride" aint shit when you're up against a world champ.. Lol
Tasteless is so bad. There are so many good commentators in the fighting game community. Do your research and pick one. There's absolutely no reason to bring in a "famous" commentator like Tasteless when he knows nothing about what he's talking about.
Xian is a 👹, lol
STOP WASTING YOUR SUPER METER ON EX FIREBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that guy who plays with dhalsim he a noob learn some more combos
+Rikudo Sennin Most dhalsim combos, if blocked, leaves you vulnerable to a counter. You don't wanna be countered with a low hp character.
I think Gootecks was fine, very smart with his commentary, but Tasteless was horrible... Jen?? Come on, act like you've at least read the manual dummy.
that corny ass score card XD
