  • I am so excited for you to meet Kelly Blackmon. She is a Speech therapist with Level 2 Cerebral Palsy (CP) on the Gross Motor Function Classification System. She has mild/moderate quadriplegia, with more physical involvement in her legs than her arms. She can walk independently but uses a power wheelchair for longer distances. She needs to use a railing to walk up and down stairs. She has a daughter who joins us on these videos. She lives with her daughter and is engaged. I was one of her physical therapists after she received the selective dorsal rhizotomy. She received physical and occupational therapy as a child, but never speech and language therapy. This interview is broken up into 10-15 minute segments.
Watch her playlist for future segments.

Thank you so much for sharing this! My son is almost 3 years old and is also GMFCS Level 2. He uses a little posterior walker to get around or crawls right now. I know there is no “crystal ball” but this is so encouraging. Kelly, you’re such a phenomenal lady!

Everyone is different. There are not that many people I know that I have gotten to follow up on as they have gotten older. I believe the research indicates that people with level 2 or greater tend to lose some skills as they get older. Exactly how much would differ from person to person
