  • Six years ago I swapped the original custom shop pickups in my Robert Cray Strat for a the Everything Axe set from Seymour Duncan Pickups. Now I've taken the Cray back closer to its roots with a set of Fender Pure Vintage '59 Strat Pickups. Give them a listen. And to hear our music, please take a few minutes and head over to gailandkarl.com or • Our Original Music Videos

Nice sounding guitar. It's so satisfying when you find your dream pickups. I got a Suhr-strat (used) with vintage Lollar Dirty Blonde's and "My Tone Search" ended on that day. oNe LovE from NYC

They sound good. I'd be curious to compare them to the 57/62 set.

I love these pups, I have sets them in six of my guitars and in the rest of my guitars (14) I have several sets of 54 custom shop pups, texmex pups, and one great set (but can't get them anymore) of 57 custom shop pups and man do they sing so sweet.
All of them are great especially the 57's but I use the 59's mostly for giging and the rest for studio work and goofing off. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace.

I like the way the 59's sound, kind of mid scooped honking sound but focused. I might try these in my mexican strat.

Amazon has them for $152. I bought mine from them a little over 2 years ago on sale for $99. Put them into a 2000 MIM Fender Strat, changed out all the electronics and put in a new Fender big block american bridge with new saddles. Cleaned the whole guitar up and it sounds beautiful. My favorite guitar.

Interesting. I'm sure when you replaced the whole pickguard set you moved from the old style Cray switch wiring to the new style which gives the bridge pickup a tone control? I'm sure that made a difference to. My Cray has the old style which has no tone control on the neck pickup. I think that's standard for them.

Your right, the standard Cray wiring does not hav a tone control assigned to the bridge pickup. I left it that way after the swap, but I recently decided to change that and have indeed wired the bridge pickup to a dedicated tone control

The tone your getting out those pickups have more to do with the amp your using than than pickups I think. I have the same set of pups, and through my Friedman BE Deluxe or JCM800 into V30 and Greenbacks I get a much richer tone from them

Yeah, that could be. I also believe that 75-80% of the tone that we electric guitarists get is in our hands, and the remaining 20-25% is everything else that we buy, from amps to pedals to strings to pups etc., is there to get us the rest of the way to that sound in our head. Are you going to post any video of your setup for us to hear? It'd be cool to hear these '59's through your amps. Thanks for your comment.
