Hi Julia! I’m with Alaska mainline and didn’t know you used to work for Horizon! I would love to see a video on your time at Horizon/at a regional and why you made the jump to American instead of flowing into Alaska. Maybe pros and cons of flying regional? Julia, when I applied, I was immediately invited to my airline's hub, and made it all the way through to the final face-to-face. There were no video interviews. What stands out for me from that time is the desperation. We were a large group that was narrowed down over the day, to those of us making it all the way through. My biggest suggestion is to NOT be an eager beaver on a stage, constantly auditioning. Because the powers that be see it and don't like it. @Jetting Julia I’m glad to share the gratitude with you! This is the first time I’ve ever actually commented on a RUclips video! It’s pretty cool! Take care! :)
✈️My interview began in a packed waiting room where American Airlines planted several employees to ‘watch’ us before going into the interview offices😊 Anyway, after gaining seniority over the years, I flew once a week (out on Friday, back on Sunday) to London which helped avoid the domestic crazy USA holiday travel! Then I switched to Honolulu layovers five times a month when jet lag got to me on European routes. Fabulous long-term career!!!
That was very well presented. Well thought out, yet very concise, answers Miss Julia. You are a wonderful representative to your occupation. Your natural smile is the perfect fit for this industry. I truly admire the patience you attendees display to all, especially since Covid. Safe travels!!
FA was always meant to be a temporary job and never a career. Kudos to those who stick it out. But after 5 years and the novelty wears off, most FAs have reached their shelf life. Dealing with pax and the public daily in a pressurized tube is not easy. Most get hooked to the flexible schedules and eventually decent money, then their customer service suffers and pax become more of a nuisance. Of course This is generalizing and not everybody is like this and some FAs genuinely enjoy working with people, but in my experience of 15+ years in airlines this is what I’ve seen.
As always Julia has a good taste of what to talk about and honesty about what one is getting into if you want to get into the cabin crew life. As a warehouse worker you should be ready for realistically anything and we value air crews who take the 24/7/365 assignments seriously. I am gland that Julia actually tries to get things right and do the right job so we are all safe and on time whenever you want to go somewhere.
I applied to be a Flight Attendant for an airline and looking forward to the next steps and face-to-face interview before being hired. This video has helped me get more insight into what it is like so thank you for this video and sharing your experience. If I get the job I am looking forward to flying abroad because in my 20's I never went on holiday as I kept laying off renewing my passport when I hit my late 20's I got it renewed and didn't go on holiday as I didn't want to go on holiday alone. This would make up for it if I got the job.
My dream job as a kid was to be a flight attendant, idk why but that’s what I wanted to be when grew up lol. I worked customer service since I was eligible to work at 15/16. And after a few years it left me drained because people can be a lot, they’re rude, entitled and it just wasn’t healthy for me. I had a few bad experiences, so I switched fields and now I work with animals 😊. I do still love to fly and travel and low key wish I was a flight attendant it looks like so much fun besides the customer service part. I just subbed because I’m going to live vicariously through you 😂.
Spot on Julia Just might want to add in case I missed it. When doing the video interview dress as you would as if you were going on a face to face interview in person. As a former F/A recruiter for AA way back when not much has changed with the exception of group interviews. BTW Julia, I also flew for Horizon back in the mid 90's hated the F28s.
Thank you sooo much for keeping it real and sharing the cons as well as the pros. Please keep up the good work I know it's not easy but I live vicariously through you as I train to become a plumber
Great tips and thank you so much! I'm in my mid-40s and finally entering this profession - just put in my application at United. I'll see how things pan out from here.
Hi Julia, I think it's great that your a flight attendant;. I see how hard you all work, as I have flown recently for a short vacation. Have a great wonderful day whenever you are, and I look forward to seeing the next video
I'm glad that you touched on relationships. I hope that anyone that sees this and happens to be young, right out of college or high school realizes that it takes a lot of work. Especially, if you're going to be a commuter as opposed to living in the city you fly out of. An example of what makes it difficult is, first, you're new and on reserve and never know when you're working or at home or at base. If you're both new and both are commuters you could be at base and she could be at home, you could be flying, she could be at base, you could be at base, she could be flying. Making a relationship work is up to you and the person you're seeing. I have seen some successful relationships from commuting f/a's but have seen a lot more fail due to those reasons. You're a commuter, she's a commuter, you're both new with no idea of your schedules, you both have different work days.
Julia, Watching this video brings me back to when I first started watching you channel several years ago. I remember when you got furloughed and how anxious you were, and how I tried to encourage you to explore several alternatives to grow your channel. I can say with several emotions, includiing happiness that I see your growth is so many ways. And when the traveling bug gets more tieresome, may I suggest you contact your airlines training dept, to see if that could be your next chapter. In many many ways I think you would be perfect for it. (You could send this video in as an example on how well you represent your profession and airline. To next time, Gracie says hi to Luna. YFJ

What would you say was the biggest change/adjustment you had to make when you went from QX to AA? Currently at a regional but probation is up soon, and I’m trying to decide if I want to stay or move on to a mainline. I honestly just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but now I love it!

A whole other comment is that you, if you ever decide to stay on the ground, then you can easily work with how to make perfectly edited, fun and interesting videos. So spot on with your facts, also fun facts, plus all the interesting stuff mentioned on different locations, airports, hotels, etc., etc. Sometimes I want to steal your food because it looks yummy! 🤭 Just simply great work! A question about the anti-smoking policy of the current airline companies! It is now forbidden to smoke on all commercial flights, whether they are local or long-haul flights! So a smoking air hostess would already have the difficulty to get a nicotine substitute, chewing gum or spray. But I saw a report about a company in the Middle East where smoking, even off duty, on your own time is a cause for dismissal or not accepting the application. What is the policy of American companies today?
Julia I believe that Air Canada requires French and English proficiency in order to be an air stewardess. Do the American carriers require English and Spanish as a requirement? Regards Jennifer and Duncan from Canada
@@emerald3331 I believe you are right that all US carriers would want the gang in the back to speak English, but Julia could not have the answer for ALL carriers based in the USA. (Sorry Jennifer) I would believe that even Spanish is not required. For the "Stump Julia" section, how does she deal with passengers who only speak non-English? or Is a foreign language considered by the scheduling department for flights? The guys driving the plane must speak English (for International flights). "OK to land on runway five." Response: "Que?" (if that's how one spells "What?") LOL
For most US airlines it’s not a requirement to be bilingual! Not the same for many foreign airlines though. We have certain positions within the company where you are considered a “speaker” of a foreign language (pass a test etc) and fly specific routes that require someone to speak that language on them.
@@JettingJulia - A perfect example of this is your AA colleague and fellow vlogger "Jetset with Jess", based out of Miami. She speaks Portuguese fluently, as well as English, so she often vlogs about her trips to Brazil and other countries where her bilingualism is a big plus.
Hi Julia, I'm a frequent viewer of your channel. I've been in my current career for almost 30 years and am burnt out and would love a change if the situation is right. I do enjoy aviation and have casually thought of being a flight attendant through the years. Do some see this field as almost a 2nd career for someone in their mid 50s to start this? Thanks!!
I thought about applying for British Airways while I was an AA employee (gate agent) based in LHR because I just simply could not become a FA with AA since I do not have a US visa, but I changed my mind when my colleague told me about the salary. I don't know how much you make in the US as a FA but over here in London, UK, I would expect it to be more.
How many flight attendants have been doing the job for 10+ years that are still in a stable relationship i.e. not divorced etc. A very low number from what I have seen extremely difficult career on marriages and families. What is your plan when you need to raise children and are gone on a four-day trip three times per month?🤔
I know MANY flight attendants who have happy marriages after 10+ years in this career. Maybe you just haven’t met them yet. Also even at my seniority I’m not gone that much lol. On reserve last month I was only gone for 3 nights the ENTIRE month & had 16 days off 😁 I’m home MORE than my friends with “regular” jobs. You can request day trips etc there’s many way to raise a family in this career!
Hi Julia! I'm currently 14 and I plan to be a flight attendant when I'm older but I just have two questions. Do you have any coworkers that have a bad attitude towards you or anything like that? I saw that on another video that said that flight attendants might have some jealous or snobby coworkers. Another question is do you get harassed as a flight attendant? That was also mentioned in the other video that I saw and I personally think it's a bit scary. I just wanted to know if those were common things flight attendants go through.
Thank you for the video luv watching it. Do you have summer and winter uniforms? How often do companies change the model of uniforms? That’s all my questions.😁
I wear either a long sleeve or short sleeve dress & then we have a winter coat/thicker scarf for when it’s colder! Airlines change uniforms I’d say every 5-10 years ish
Thank you for your helpful video! My daughter is a FA and is only 4 months into it. She’s has an East coast hub and has already been to some amazing Countries. She’s currently in Nigeria and isn’t returning for 80 hrs 😮. I’m a little concerned and wonder if you’ve ever had a trip to Africa and have any tips other than keeping risk levels as low as possible (which is any area). Thanks again!
Hello! Thank you very much for the great video! I’m not sure if this question was already answered but is there an opportunity for a flight attendant to go on major vacations from time to time? Is it possible to be sure to not have work for a longer period of time? I Hope you understand what I mean. Thank you.
hey, i have a question about a flight attendant. Do you get a suit case like does the airline provide you one or do you have to buy one yourself and if you do what suitcases do you think are the best
Thank you for covering tattoos, and giving me the confidence to apply despite having tattoos and alternative dress. To pursue this career will mean bidding farewell to my dyed hair and piercings, which has been my identity for years. Could you ever forsee an airline that is fully inclusive?
Thank you so much for your video. It heped me a lot. Ill have my training starting in January. when you were doing your training, what were the most important things to know?
I’m a flight attendant and what got me through training was building good relationships with my fellow students & my instructors and also just taking it one day at a time. Sleep well, eat well, and don’t forget to stay active
Hi I have been watching some videos about flight attending and in the first year you are usually reserve always on call. So my question is how do you make. Money or support yourself when you don’t know what your hours are?
I just reached the next step which is the video and I’m so nervous to do it but I’m confident I will kill it lol my experience as a Bellman at the Ritz Carlton 6 yrs and 5 yrs in luxury Sales should play a big part. I’m 30 single no pets good looking 😂 I feel good about this..thanks for you video
Do you know any flight attendants who also work as stage actors in their spare time? I world in retail during the day and I work as an actor in my spare time, but have wanted to peruse a career as a flight attendant since I was about 16. I haven’t tried yet just out of fear that the commitment of being a flight attendant would take me away from the theater world entirely. Do you have any suggestions on this. Thanks. Great video btw!
Every job, even when you own your own company has tough days. The most important thing in a career is do what you enjoy doing, then most of the time you don't refer to it as work. It took me some changes, but for the last 35 years, even with some hassles and stressful days, I thouroughly enjoy what I do for a living. I could easily retire now, but I don't plan on it anytime soon. Most days I have are fun and I meet a lot of incredible people. Yep I'm old in Dallas🤠 Julia is a very good RUclipsr.
@@Swamp_Bruja definitely not! You’d have just to manipulate your flying schedule to make sure you get weekends off. Sometimes it’s hard but this job can be flexible too
Ik it's kinda late to ask, but do FA only work in one airline company? And does this company only go from (ex, it's an American airline) America to other countries and back? I'm sorry if the question isn't understandable. I mean if you go from America to France (on an American airline) do you have to go back to USA and after that in the next county or is it possible to go from France to that country without going back in USA?
I am a AMT here at DFW for American I wonder how many gate calls do you encounter a day For us ita not fun having a plane full of passengers looking while we are trying to figure out how to get this plane fixed to get you guys on your way
Do not forget PSA that is owned by American Airline. I work for them and I have an AA # etc. Envoy is also owned by AA. we are all under on big umbrella
This is really late and this might be a stupid question, but does appearance play a role in becoming a flight attendant? im 17 (f) and was a bit concerned about that.
What airline is good to work through? I’ve really into planes and I want to be a flight attendant or a pilot. I don’t know yet. Can you please help me?
Turbulence doesn’t bother me, aspect I don’t like: long time away from family occasionally or waking up at 2 am sometimes. Bad flight - mean passengers, diverging, re routes etc. good flight - calm air, calm people, basically a boring flight is a good flight! Lol
What other questions do you have about being a flight attendant?! ☺️ ✈️
When flying international flights do you try and adjust to the local time during such a short period or do you try to stay on your home time?
This one is very random - do you take spare uniforms with you on trips? Many of the RUclipsrs seem to just wear the same one each day. (I did say this was random lol)
Are you used to turbulence?
Can flight attendants be married or partners and work same flights?

@Jetting Julia I’m glad to share the gratitude with you! This is the first time I’ve ever actually commented on a RUclips video! It’s pretty cool!
Take care! :)
Good Luck B!
How long do you have to work to become a senior
That was very well presented. Well thought out, yet very concise, answers Miss Julia. You are a wonderful representative to your occupation. Your natural smile is the perfect fit for this industry. I truly admire the patience you attendees display to all, especially since Covid. Safe travels!!
Thank you!!
Well said ! I totally agree !
Did u get the job?
My dream job as a kid was to be a flight attendant, idk why but that’s what I wanted to be when grew up lol. I worked customer service since I was eligible to work at 15/16. And after a few years it left me drained because people can be a lot, they’re rude, entitled and it just wasn’t healthy for me. I had a few bad experiences, so I switched fields and now I work with animals 😊.
I do still love to fly and travel and low key wish I was a flight attendant it looks like so much fun besides the customer service part. I just subbed because I’m going to live vicariously through you 😂.
I had applied as a gate agent for Delta awhile ago. Made it to the video interview, it my shyness got the best of me.
Awww! You’ll find your perfect fit when it’s meant to be!
@@JettingJulia thank you! Love your channel so much!
@@JettingJuliayou re so gorgeoustick!!!!
True!! Always dress to impress :)
Any updates??? How did it go?? I’m about to apply to United, I’m a little scared but I’m deciding to take a leap of faith! 😅
Hi Julia, I think it's great that your a flight attendant;. I see how hard you all work, as I have flown recently for a short vacation. Have a great wonderful day whenever you are, and I look forward to seeing the next video
I really want to be a flight attendant but I still feel like I need more English to apply… working on it for now. Your videos are so inspiring 🤍
Very good video Julia. All the best to you and your family. Keep smiling and keep loving. Hey! WHY NOT!
YFJ
Thank you! ☺️
I love Your videos! It makes me feel better about aviation world, especially after Covid period. Just carry on what You´re doing! Greetings from middle of Europe.
Excellent and informative presentation, Thank you. Having said that and now being retired, I no longer fly... but, I used to and quite a lot. And I have Always appreciated, and admired, the Flight Attendants that I have had contact with and have tried my best to make their flight just a little bit easier every chance that I could. ESPECUALLY Today, in the world that we live in. Perhaps it's my military and Law Enforcement background... but I can only imagine, "Today", your job must at times be very taxing. My best to you and yours.
Your scarf very pretty 😍. Great video Julia Hope you & Eric & Luna are doing well 😊
Have a Good Weekend 🥰
I absolutely love your vlogs , Julia ✈️ Thank you for creating them for us!!!
You remind me such a lot of my daughter. who worked as cabin crew for BA. She got to see and experience so many wonderful countries on her travels.
Where is your favourite / least favourite destination 🌎
My daughter’s fav was India and her least fav was Japan.
Hugs across the pond 🇬🇧
How cool! Thank you for watching ☺️
Hi Julia! I just applied for American’s Regional partner, Piedmont Airlines!! Can’t wait to see where this new journey takes me! Thank you for all your great advice!
Hey, Julia! You are absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing! Lots of love from La Plata, Argentina! 🥰
My dream job. Glad to see people enjoying being an FA :)
Do you know how to use the cockpit radio controls to deal with ATC in case of emergency, I mean just to assist pilots for communication reasons , not to assist in piloting/actual flying?
Found your videos looking for info for my niece. Very informative, thanks for sharing!! 😊
I thought this was a very good and informative video! Lots of god questions and lots of great answers! Thank you and have a nice weekend!
Thank you, I hope you have a nice weekend too!
hello it is first time watching of your video. I am Japanese working as a flight attendant and i really like your video since you speak calmly! it engaged me to watch it till the end!
I love your energy. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video!! This is my dream job and I recently decided to actually start looking into it and I’m starting by watching videos like yours 💜
Thanks, Julia! Always enjoy your videos.
What would you say was the biggest change/adjustment you had to make when you went from QX to AA? Currently at a regional but probation is up soon, and I’m trying to decide if I want to stay or move on to a mainline. I honestly just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but now I love it!
Thank you. I’m currently working as a locomotive engineer and although it’s a higher paying career I really want to become a flight attendant and travel.
Julia thanks for this video. So nice to get out of my own life and watch yours. Thank you!!!
Thank you for watching!!
Something I never see these videos answering in is: What can you do to prepare yourself between high school graduation until you turn 21 to apply? Besides working for a regional airline! I am really wondering but I do not wanna work regional so I don't know what to do
Jobs that will help you with great customer service! Retail, waitressing, working as a secretary, etc. build up that experience & leadership skills and use it to your advantage when applying to be a flight attendant :)
Thank You for posting Julia!
Julia with another one!!!! Hope your day is great today 💪🏾💪🏾
Totally Amazing, Julia, you are Professional in your videos. You, Eric and Luna are the best. Have a great day
A whole other comment is that you, if you ever decide to stay on the ground, then you can easily work with how to make perfectly edited, fun and interesting videos. So spot on with your facts, also fun facts, plus all the interesting stuff mentioned on different locations, airports, hotels, etc., etc. Sometimes I want to steal your food because it looks yummy! 🤭
Just simply great work! A true professional! 🙋♂👍
Another great vid! Very informative and interesting. Have fun
Thank you!
Same in medical fields crazy schedule.
Great vlog as always, Julia. Correct me if i am wrong, but did you mention when you were talking about the money you make, that you don't make a lot when you are just starting out?I always smile from ear to ear when i see a notification you have uploaded a video
Happy Friday, Julia!
Happy Friday!
PSA is hiring Flight Attendants and other positions. Crew Base is Dayton OH Charlotte Philly and DCA. Very good Pay
im going to be in training for republic soon! im thankful for all your videos, they've definitely helped🥰
Another great video, thanks July
Julia
I believe that Air Canada requires French and English proficiency in order to be an air stewardess. Do the American carriers require English and Spanish as a requirement?
Regards
Jennifer and Duncan from Canada
I think only English is required.
@@emerald3331 I believe you are right that all US carriers would want the gang in the back to speak English, but Julia could not have the answer for ALL carriers based in the USA. (Sorry Jennifer)
I would believe that even Spanish is not required.
For the "Stump Julia" section, how does she deal with passengers who only speak non-English?
or
Is a foreign language considered by the scheduling department for flights?
The guys driving the plane must speak English (for International flights). "OK to land on runway five."
Response: "Que?" (if that's how one spells "What?") LOL
For most US airlines it’s not a requirement to be bilingual! Not the same for many foreign airlines though. We have certain positions within the company where you are considered a “speaker” of a foreign language (pass a test etc) and fly specific routes that require someone to speak that language on them.
Google translate is a beautiful thing! I use it a lot on flights when I need to communicate with passengers
@@JettingJulia - A perfect example of this is your AA colleague and fellow vlogger "Jetset with Jess", based out of Miami. She speaks Portuguese fluently, as well as English, so she often vlogs about her trips to Brazil and other countries where her bilingualism is a big plus.
Thanks for the video ! Anyone can see you love your job !!
Great video Julia. It's always good when you do a Question and Answer every so often
Thanks!!
Absolutely!! There’s many people who become flight attendants as second careers!
SO EXCITED!!! 🎃🍁🍁🍂🍁🍁🍂🎃👻👻🍂🍁🍁🎃👻👻🎃🍁🍁🍂🎃👻👻👻🍂🍁🍁🍂🎃👻👻🎃🍂🍂🎃👻👻👻🍂🍂🎃🎃👻🎃🍂🍁🍂👻👻🎃
No questions , but kudos on doing a great job.
Thanks I enjoyed hearing about that!
I can understand the travel perks, getting to see the world, etc. .....but aren't you afraid of flying or what could go wrong?
Thank you for your helpful video! My daughter is a FA and is only 4 months into it. She’s has an East coast hub and has already been to some amazing Countries. She’s currently in Nigeria and isn’t returning for 80 hrs 😮. I’m a little concerned and wonder if you’ve ever had a trip to Africa and have any tips other than keeping risk levels as low as possible (which is any area). Thanks again!
I'm gonna ask the most important question: cookies or pretzels
(those Biscoff cookies hit the spot when you're above the clouds)
Hahaha I’m a pretzels kind of girl!
Awesome Video Julia
Hello! Thank you very much for the great video! I’m not sure if this question was already answered but is there an opportunity for a flight attendant to go on major vacations from time to time? Is it possible to be sure to not have work for a longer period of time? I Hope you understand what I mean. Thank you.
Do you intend to stay on air crew long term, or do you want to eventually move up to ground management or instructor roles?
hey, i have a question about a flight attendant.
Hi Julia! I’m young and trying to decide what to do with my life. Can you please tell me whether it’s worth it? Should I become one? Any tips?
Thank you so much for your video. It heped me a lot. Ill have my training starting in January. when you were doing your training, what were the most important things to know?
I’m a flight attendant and what got me through training was building good relationships with my fellow students & my instructors and also just taking it one day at a time. Sleep well, eat well, and don’t forget to stay active
When you are on a reserve block, are you paid to stay home on call if you are not actually scheduled?
Hi I have been watching some videos about flight attending and in the first year you are usually reserve always on call. So my question is how do you make. Money or support yourself when you don’t know what your hours are?
I just reached the next step which is the video and I’m so nervous to do it but I’m confident I will kill it lol my experience as a Bellman at the Ritz Carlton 6 yrs and 5 yrs in luxury Sales should play a big part. I’m 30 single no pets good looking 😂 I feel good about this..thanks for you video
I wonder which is harder, being a flight attendant or a truck driver? Both keep you away from home a lot.
Beautiful video thank you !!!
Love your lipstick and scarf in this video Julia
how do you visit new places when you’re in a new city? do you get discounts on transportation or do you walk?
I work as a scare actor for haunted houses as a fun - seasonal job in October on the weekends, is this something I would have to give up to do this?
@@Swamp_Bruja definitely not! You’d have just to manipulate your flying schedule to make sure you get weekends off. Sometimes it’s hard but this job can be flexible too
How many times a year do applications open? I'm looking at United but only see for San Francisco, not LA - it is once a year?
Not flight attendant related but where did you get your wall map art?
Amazon!! Here’s a link: amzn.to/34N5r0H
I am a AMT here at DFW for American I wonder how many gate calls do you encounter a day
For us ita not fun having a plane full of passengers looking while we are trying to figure out how to get this plane fixed to get you guys on your way
Can one finish college while working in this occupation?
Do you get a pention plan or Health insurrance?
Can you pick your own flights to work so maybe you have a long layover at a nice destination?
Kind of! Lol you can request certain trips/layovers but doesn’t mean you’ll get them. It’s all seniority based
Do not forget PSA that is owned by American Airline.
Nice job
Pleasant vlog
Good info if people applying
Glad you are so positive and enjoy your position
Cone visit Canada sometime
What kind of customer service jobs would look good on a flight attendant application?
Does turbulence bother you at all?
Are there aspects of being a flight attendant that you don't like?
What makes a good flight vs. bad flight?
Turbulence doesn’t bother me, aspect I don’t like: long time away from family occasionally or waking up at 2 am sometimes. Bad flight - mean passengers, diverging, re routes etc. good flight - calm air, calm people, basically a boring flight is a good flight! Lol
