@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames In the Revelations Trailer that has music from Woodkid - Iron, there is a line that says "I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste, of the blood on my lips, again." and I think it's a throwback to the beginning of AC II when Ezio gets into a fight with some other young boys over some girl? and one of them throws a rock and hits him in the mouth and there is some blood on his lips (and a scar that he still has in future games).

    Background Lore time:
The assassins creed series is (suppose to be) a story about a seemingly never ending conflict between 2 secret organizations. Both organizations ultimately want the same thing, peace but they go about it in very different ways.
The Templars (the bad guys?) want to attain peace through absolute control, the domination of man kind. That through the such control they can forcibly bring about a perfect utopia for mankind that all might live in peace.
The Assassins (the good guys?) dedicate themselves to fighting the Templars because they believe that peace should be attained through freedom. That mankind should be free to choose its own destiny and that humanity should be guided towards peace.
In the modern time Abstergo, a massive pharmaceuticals company with its fingers in all the industrial pies, is a front for the Templar order. They invent a machine called the Animus. A device capable of accessing the memories of a person’s ancestor’s memories through genetic memory (how do birds instinctively know to migrate for winter without being told etc. Assassin’s Creed says DNA acts as a record of your ancestor’s memories and your memories as well). They use these devices to sift through the memories of Desmond Miles, a former assassin in training, because they believe one of his ancestors found a map to several Isu artifacts.
This is where it delves a little into science fiction. The Isu are a very technologically advance precursor race that not only predated humanity, they created humanity (fun fact. When the Templar’s discovered this they intentional manufactured evolutionary evidence linking us to Great Apes because the discovery is not one that would’ve gone along with their organizations goals). Standing, on average, 2 feet taller than humans, having triple helix DNA, and a sixth sense that allows them to perceive time as mathematical calculations (they can see various potential outcomes but not everything so it’s not super OP). The Isu created humanity as a genetically inferior slave race. They created devices, several devices all to do different things. An example in first few games is called an Apple of Eden. A spherical mind control device that allowed the Isu to control humans. The Isu died out due to a coronal mass ejections (a massive solar flare) but prior to dying they tried various methods in order to save themselves and even left messages to humans in the future so that in the event they failed, the surviving humans would have a way to save themselves from the cyclical nature of the coronal mass ejections.
But enough of that, let’s get into the games. I’m AC1 you play as one of Desmond’s ancestors, Altaïr Idn-La’Ahad, an assassin during the time of the crusades (fun fact: the assassin organization of this time was based on a real organization where a man would abduct people and brainwash them into thinking they were in heaven. He would then send them out and told them they could not renter heaven until their target was dead. They were also fanatical enough that they’d throw themselves to their deaths as a way to intimidate their enemies, the sentiment being these people did not fear even death.)
In AC2, Brotherhood, and Revelations you play as Ezio Auditore. Another one of Desmond’s ancestors, Ezio was an Italian assassin during the time of the Renaissance. Ezio is the only protagonist (besides the modern ones but they aren’t really the main focus of the games) to be in multiple games. As a result Ezio if the fan favorite and the poster boy of the AC franchise for most fans.
AC3 you play as another one of Desmond’s ancestors Ratonhnhaké:ton AKA Connor Kenway. A Native American Assassin during the American Revolution. Briefly, in the beginning of the game, you play as his father Haytham Kenway. A English Assassin turned Templar and Grand Master of the colonial chapter of the Templars. This is the first time in the AC franchise where you play as a Templar.
AC4 you play as Edward Kenway, Haytham’s father and Connor’s grandfather. A welsh pirate in the Caribbean during the time of famous pirates like Blackbeard. Edward eventually becomes an Assassin and hangs up his pirate hat to live the life of an Assassin in England.
In AC Unity you play as Arno Victor Dorian the first assassin in the main line series to not be related to Desmond Miles, Arno is a French assassin during the time of the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. Arno is one of the first times where we really get to see a character examine the flaws of the Assassin Brotherhood when he was briefly excommunicated from the guild.
In AC Syndicate you play as the Twins Jacob and Evie Frye. English assassins through in the time of the Industrial Revolution. Jacob is a free spirited, make it up as you go Assassin whereas Evie is a more methodical, by the books kind. While not the first in AC overall, Evie is first female assassin that’s playable in the main line game series. You briefly play as Lydia Frye, Jacob’s granddaughter during WWI in a side mission and in a DLC you get to play as Jack the Ripper, a former Assassin gone rogue.
In AC Origins you play as Bayek of Siwa. An Egyptian Medjay during the reign of Ptolemy XIII (Cleopatra and Julius Caesar time). Bayek and his wife Aya at the end of the game created the organization called the Hidden Ones, the Hidden Ones would eventually become the Assassin Brotherhood making basically making Bayek the first Assassin. Aya changed her name to Amunet and would be involved in the assassination of Julius Caesar alongside the Roman Senate, and is immortalized by the Assassins with a statue for having assassinated Cleopatra with a venomous snake. This game was the game that definitively revealed where the Assassin’s triangular symbol comes from when Bayek drops the eagle skull necklace he gave his dead son onto a sandy beach, the bottom of the skull would leave the Assassin’s symbol in the sand. This game also introduces Layla Hassan, a new protagonist for the modern aspect of the AC games. For AC4, Unity and Syndicate the modern segment was a nameless, faceless person.
AC Odyssey. You play as a Greek Mercenary during the Peloponnesian war Kassandra of Sparta. Kassandra is the granddaughter of King Leonidas and has the highest concentration of Isu DNA out of anyone in the series that we have ever seen. Odyssey is the first game where you can choose which gender you wish to play as. While Kassandra is the canon choice in which case her brother, Alexios becomes the antagonist. You can choose yo play as Alexios, in which case Kassandra would be the antagonist. This is the beginning of old school AC fans despair when it comes to the AC franchise (including myself). A lot of game play functions like dialogue choices, alternate story paths, and choosable gender flies in the face of AC lore but it is what it is. Kassandra is actually Aya’s ancestor and due to an Isu artifact called the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, she manages to live on to the modern day where she meets Layla Hassan. Kassandra dies when she gives the Staff to Layla. She also becomes the daughter in law of Darius, the Persian assassin who killed Xerxes. Darius invented the hidden blade, the arm/wrist mounted retractable blade gauntlets that becomes the signature weapon of the Assassins. Darius’ blades are given to Bayek by his descendant Aya.
Finally, we have AC Valhalla. You play as Eivor Varinsdottir a female Norwegian Viking in England during the 9th century. (Personal side note in this game you get to meet some of the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok. While he isn’t in the game, Sigurd Ragnarsson is one of my direct ancestors.) Eivor is another character whom you can choose male or female but the female Eivor is canon. What’s unusual about Eivor is that she is the reincarnation of Odin, one of the Isu. A group of Isu who share their names with Norse gods injected their memories into the human genome so that they may eventually be reincarnated as humans. Of the 3 living reincarnated Isu in this game, Eivor is the least similar to his Isu counterpart. His foster brother Sigurd Styrbjornsson is the reincarnation of Tyr and is somewhat half and half. Basim Ibn Ishaq, one of the Hidden Ones, is the reincarnation of Loki who is so much like his Isu counterpart they are essentially the same person.
And that’s not even the side games, the side materials like novels and comics, and I didn’t even go in depth with the main games… there’s A LOT…

I miss the old ubisoft who were clearly passionate about the games they were making. Now there is so many micro transactions and valhalla was good the first 15 hours but it was really a bummer when you get to the 60 hour mark and you realize there's nothing much happening and it's all about grinding towards nothing. Origins is my (near)perfect game for me with a decent sized map who is still really huge, no multiple dialogue choices that are useless, it has a clear story, a great character and most of all, it has something to do with assassin's creed.
I also have a lot of love for all the other games prior to odyssey especially for AC2. I hope we can see a change in direction at ubisoft in the future cause right now even outside of assassin's creed, it's a freaking joke.

They really make ONE game and then they milk it in subsequent years to appease the investors who will weep without their yearly cashgrab. Only play the ones that refresh the engine or bring a new mechanic to the forefront that change the game. The original game, AC 2, AC: Brotherhood, AC3, AC4: Black Flag, AC: Unity (after they fixed the horrible performance it had at launchthe game itself is pretty good) and finally AC: Origins.
The others are just built on the bones of the same game from the year before with a different skin even though it's really just the same game, DON'T buy these. Make them commit to a normal three year dev cycle so we actually get AC games worth playing. They put the series on hiatus for two years because Syndicate sold so poorly, which is why Origins is so good.

@@MrMeddyman Ive been saying the exact same thing for years man, even though I bought every AC, I was only hyped about the ones that showed a new engine. I played a bit of watch dogs legion and honestly it feels like a 12 year old game with a fresh coat of paint and barely any accessibility settings. Honestly they're sitting on gold but they have no idea what to do with it. I mean small indie studios have proven time and time again that you don't need to be a big triple a studio to innovate and it makes the devs at ubisoft seem lazy or they have no creative control at all cause it's all orchestrated by a money hungry company who only knows business and nothing about gaming and good entertainment.

Unity was alright and tried but was not as good as BF, same with Syndicate. As for Origins I really liked it except for, as mentioned, the level grinding. Shouldn't have to 100% each area to be at the right level for missions or otherwise grind to level up in a very story driven series. Odyssey was meh, Valhalla was meh. AC Unity is absolutely my favorite, both as a game, and for its introduction. The entire intro up to the title was more effective, engaging, and entertaining than most films out there. Every time I watch it and it gets to the prompt to take the leap, I have chills every time. The strings building up and then the release of the tension as the music shifts to the theme signals so much. With all of the fixes since launch, Unity is far more improved than most people think. It was simply a case of being overly ambitious on new hardware. Unity remastered on PS5 or Series X would finally pull off what they were going for.

Also you’ve played Valhalla now. That one was the longest. AC Odyssey and Origins are also long. If I were you I would still start at the beginning and play from AC1 tot Odyssey. If you just focus on the story than it won’t take forever. I’ve played them all except for the last two for like multiple times. 100% synchronised everything. Odyssey certainly has a more cinematic title card. Then again, I'm heavily biased toward Odyssey just due to its setting. A lot of people don't like the RPG elements or the fact that the newest trilogy takes place before the Crusades, so the Templars aren't established yet. But the atmospheric beauty and history of Classical Greece really comes alive in Odyssey.

Odyssey and Valhalla both have canonical female leads that are acted better and make more sense contextually by the male part. Than in Valhalla you can face off Kassendra for story expansion. Also a new Assassin’s creed Valhalla dlc coming this March were you can play as Oden to fight off Norse enemies with abilities of fire and ice. AC1 had a great intro. Showed all the points of great film making. Setup, buildup, action and release. Showed the mechanics too, stalking your target, blending to get closer, the kill and then the escape. This isn't really shown by the others, it all revolves around the characters. It's not necasserily a bad thing, but it does the intro a disservice as I would like to see the game being part of the intro.
The best one was Revelations though. It's syncing with Altair is something we rarely see in the assassin games anymore. It was one assassin literally following in the others footsteps even seeing his shadow. It shows the connection between the bloodlines and the stories. A shame the modern ones don't do this. It's what makes them so shit in comparison. The return of Masyaf is something you can't truly appreciate unless you played the first one or know your history. Seeing it rendered in that way is breath taking. From the building being damage due to hundreds of years of neglect to the same place where Altair took his first leap of faith. To the point of even having him stand in the same spot he did in the first game while Ezio takes the platform next to it symbolising him being his own person while being still being connected to his history. Using the platform as a weapon and forcing the Templars to cut the rope lest their leader be strangled was a genius bit of trickery too! There is much more I could gush over about it, but I'll leave it there.
That said, AC2 triology is overrated as fuck lol but I'll give it it's dues. I'll never deny the opening being great and one of the best ways to introduce a character some may not even fully know.

4 = AC OG Gameplay + Best Pirate Sea Games Ever, expanding maps, fully Adventorous with new swimming diving mechanics
5 = Fully Developed OG Gameplays, best parkour system, Next gen Graphic, Co-Op Plays, with decent story
6 = Different takes with base of 5. New grapple hook mechanic, and skill tree
7 = breath of fresh air with new gameplays RPG Style, leveling system with the best setting (Imo) ptolemaic egypt, incredibly immersive, with a really strong emotional story, and the beginnings of assassins explains what it is about. Really really big map to roam about with amazing dessert and hills landscape (It will at least makes you want to learn more about egypt). If you like egyptology, must play the discovery mode.
8 = tend towards more to RPG playstyle, hack and slash, adding most fantasy aspect to the story but worse stealth system than 7. Amazing landscape and historic monument with also discovery mode same as 7.
9 = same as 8 more RPG, less stealthy and really far off from OG stealth gameplays. Really long story and grind, big maps, controversial game for AC fans to be honest.

Unfortunately the intro was cut short and had bad sound in this video🥲, it absolutely blows you away normally).
    2. AC III (the scenery and song are so epic).
    3. Unity, aka pisspot (I just love the smooth transition from the leap to the city and then the title).
I'm more of a fan of the shorter ones, I feel like having the cinematic trailer as the intro makes me less interested since I've already seen it a million times. As trailers they're awesome but I prefer the in game intro to be something new I guess. The song matters allot as well.

Almost hurts though because Haytham was so much more charming than playing as his bland son Connor ever was. Which is why in Black Flag you play as the roguish Edward Kenway and at the end they reveal he is Haytham's father boom full circle.
