I was a playtester for the multiplayer of the game in Paris back in the days. You played the game for like 2 hours and an ubisoft employee ask you question about the gameplay, UI etc and they give you either a coupon for a game or directly a game of your choice from a bin. I was 18 and I did several playtest for them after that.

Connor Kenway from Assassins Creed 3 still to this day has the best trailer. A man conflicted with protecting his people and not knowing who to trust, as neither the british nor the americans seem to truly value his people. His stubborness makes him probably my favourite assassin, and his realization towards the end that doing the right thing isn't always so simple and clear as his young angry self used to believe. Edward, the blonde pirate guy is his grandfather too, whose story has him acting stupid for his own selfish reasons, then realizing in the end what his actions have caused and making amends. His son Haytham, the guy you see talking with Shay in the Rogue trailer about "becoming the best among us" joined the Templars (pretty much the baddies) and wound up helping out Connor's mom in America during his mission there and they fell in love and had him, so the Kenway line is really interesting and sad. I feel like Bayek from Origins was the best one after them.

The older assassin's creed game really capture the feeling you come to expect from playing the franchise. For me, 1-4 are the golden age of assassin's creed games, although I will say origins had lots of nice references and easter eggs that people who have played many of the other games will appreciate. Also I would highly recommend playing brotherhood if you want to get into Ezio's story, that's the best one of the 3!

Rogue is such a great character story and it leads into Assassin's Creed 3 so well (one of my favourites). Unity is phenomenal. Liberation with it's costume mechanic really is a great commentary on class and gender biases and is one of the few where you play exclusively a female protagonist.

@@crocodile7448 Completely disagree. I think Origins touches on something gaming media usually doesnt. Its always revenge and plot twists and world ending events. Origins and Black Flag dare to challenge with non-gaming plots. It asks what do you do with grief. And the answer isnt just simple revenge. Its to be of service to others. And also delves into the idea that you can never go back but not in an edgy gamer way. Bayek tries to bring back his relationship with Aya only to learn what Aya already knows: it's too late. They're broken but it cant really be fixed. You just have to move forward and be of service to others. So yes the plot of Origins is simple, but its message is far from it.

Also, quick mention on the characters from Black Flag - there is a short docuseries (I think) on Netflix, called The Lost Pirate Kingdom, which tells the story of some of the most notorious pirates of that time period, including Benjamin Hornigold, Edward Thatch (Blackbeard) and Charles Vane. Also, gives an interesting insight into the pirates ethics (if you can call them that), that might not quite fit with the classic idea of what pirates were.

What I hate about Odyssey is that, like the last one, it has choice based dialogues with options that goes in every directions depriving your character to have a real personality plus the story can go in many directions that aren't so great.
That's why I love Origins, it's a huge, beautiful open world but way smaller and more diverse than the last two games, your character is pretty great and the story is shorter and more focused in one direction and it's the last game that had any relevance to the assassins whatsoever lol.
But anyway, I can't wait to see you guys dive into Ezio's story which is still the highlight of the franchise.

I mean I love origins too. Bayek held what you said. I also liked odyseey as well including the DLCs but I think was Ubisoft’s chance to let the player do more but the dialogue options were hard. I’m glad in my first playthrough on the main story I chose the right answers and everyone lived (best/good ending). I’m just one of the few that acknowledges AC Odyssey or Kassandra existence (canon character) from the next game perspective because you’ll see her name in Valhalla on the staff she was carrying in the case and point is without her no (she’s a descendant of Aya who is Bayek wife until she leaves him, which follows up with her son elpidios) hidden ones/proto assassins to assassins would exist.

I'm sure it's more than likely been mentioned in the comments already, but on the off chance that it hasn't; Edward (AC: Black Flag) is the grandfather of Connor (AC:3) and Connor mentions him at one point when sailing in the game 'My grandfather, Edward. He sailed with a rough crew, or so I am told.' Haythem, the British man in the Rogue trailer speaking to Shay, is Connor's father and Edward's son.
Shay (AC: Rogue) was also trained by Achilles who later in life trained Connor.
    Spoiler below:
At the end of AC: Rogue, Shay ends up in Paris, in which he assassinates Arno's (AC: Unity) father. The start of AC: Unity picks up right where Rogue ended.
Very cool connections between all of the characters and games.

Humanity has always fought against one another. Blood against blood. This fight has lasted far before Julius Caesar reformed the Order, before Aya and Bayek created the foundations of the Creed. This war will still exist after we are gone. But what matters now is what we choose to do that will change the world forever. I’ve always believed in the Creed’s ideas of peace: preserving humanity’s natural freedoms-never determining one’s actions. But not many people believe this. Others want to enslave people, turning them into cogs in the machines just like the Isu once did.
However, can we truly stop the Templars? Will peace finally be brought to this world? “Without chaos, there is supreme order. A lost of progression and freedom.”
There is a delicate scale that must be balanced between order and chaos. Both must be balanced in order for our world to survive.

It seems interesting that all these trailers was breathtaking and amazing to witness again but with you both witness from beginning to now. Also you can play Ezio’s story with being Assassin’s Creed: Ezio’s Legacy for ps4. It carry all of Ezio games in one with two mini movies. 😁 Also there is a saga for each game, like “Desmond Miles Saga” is AC1 way to Black Flag, “Initiates Saga” is Rogue, Chronicles, Unity and Syndicate, and “Layla Hasting Saga” is Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. It is a big franchise and there is a rumor next game might take place in “Federal Japan” if there is a chance. This series is my childhood (well maybe it's not good to say cause they're not games for kids but you know how it is hah) and I must say that in every game in this series there are characters that lived in a real world. For example in AC2 we got Leonardo DaVinci, George Washington in AC3, Napoleon Bonaparte in Unity and literally dozens more. You can actually learn so much about history from these games, even in menu there is list of characters, places, buildings and events that you can read and learn about, and in the cities there is a lot of famous buildings, for example Notre Dame in Paris is done perfect and you can actually go inside, climb at the very top etc. it's the magic of this series. Great reaction as always, love that you're really getting into things that you watch and you're trully interested. As to AC IV, Charles Vane, Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, Jack Rackham, Ben Hornigold and Mary Read are all in the game and in Black Sails and yes, they are historical figures and actually one of the most famous pirates around the world, In Black Sails only pirate that is fictional is Flint. Great to know someone watched this show, it's so underrated. Hope you're having a great day!

Which is saying something cause playing all 3 of those games back to back and Odyssey being the largest one by far, that was a lot of AC 😂

Always fun to see AC content from you two. Still one of the best game series ever, even if the last few have been too, I don't know, big, too much filler. Still fun, still love the historical aspect. Cheers!
An idea for more further Assassin's Creed stuff that could maybe bleed over to Fight Night Friday: reacting to compilations that exist of all the stealth kills/counters/finishers/overall combat style of each game/protagonist in the series. That would be fun!!!😁
And from Black Flag, yes, Charles Vane was a real person, as was Ed Thatch, better known as Blackbeard! Indeed, most antagonists and secondary characters in AC are based on real historical figures. In 2 and Brotherhood, the villains are mainly the Borgia and their allies. So on. Cheers once more!

Blackbeard is my favorite Pirate. He was trying so hard to instill fear into people. And he actually succeeded. Most of the time. How did he do that? Well he put fuses in his hair and light it! It makes smoke with no fire. And that is why people saw him as a demon. I like his quotes from Assassin's Creed Black Flag. My favorite is:
"Give your quarry something to fear... some hellish thing from a fever dream... and men will drop to their knees, pleadin' for their Lord before aught else!"
I love Assassin's Creed! I mean you get to kill people and nobody says for free and nobody complains! Except their families so who cares... Mostly i enjoyed Assassin's Creed IV. Not because you play as a Templar. But because I love long coats. And the Red one in the game? That is the best! And you still get to kill people. But this time you get to kill Assassin's. I don't care much for who i kill as long as i get to kill😈
I never got to play any other Assassin's Creed game after IV. Because i lost interest in Assassination😅
Also if you wonder why i know many pirate. I love piracy games. I have a Historically accurate pirate game too. And i've watched every pirate tv series and movie. And i read tons about them. I love old ships at the age of piracy. They look way cooler than current ships. Despite the size difference. Queen Anne's Revenge is a Beauty! Queen Anne's Revenge is Blackbeard's Ship.

With the exception of Odyssey, all your assassination targets get a chance to reveal their motivations, and often provide some of the best acting in the games. 1, 3 and Origins are the best ones, though it might take a bit of searching for Origins, because most of the videos except one leave out one or two targets

I get how being a pirate or exploring egypt seems funnier on paper but AC3 doesn't get enough praise. I might be biased cause I've always been intrigued by native american's culture and found their fate to be revolting but the whole AC3 story was really good to show their struggle with Connor accomplishing very little in the end and realising he cannot help his people.
I would also add that the story was more nuanced when presenting historical characters and templar's motivations, showing both their positive and negative aspects. In my opinion, Ubisoft took risks on that, knowing how americans think highly of their founding fathers, showing someone like Georges Washington as a complex character that you first see as an ally but end up having mixed feeling knowing how, in the end, natives will get the same treatment. I would have liked if they kept that trend of staying close to history, with its good and bad sides, along with a more nuanced comflict between assassins and templars cause I'm not a fan of having mostly fictional characters nowadays.
As a french guy, I was disappointed when they didn't do the same with our history in Unity, with it being way more black and white showing Robespierrre as the one dimensional bad guy (which he wasn't) and having our character less involved in historical events and with historical figures.

    02) The Punic Wars (264-146 BC)

I miss so much what Assassin’s Creed used to be. The Ezio Trilogy was the pinnacle of the entire series with Brotherhood being my absolute favorite. The only ones after that I really loved we’re AC IV & Origins.
AC IV beautifully told an amazing story and Edward is by far my favorite protagonist outside the Ezio series.
Origins was great as far as an origin story for The Assassins with really great nods to the past games that answered some age old questions like “Where did the Leap of Faith come from?” And “Where did the tradition of cutting off the Ring Finger come from?”
AC III was so lacklustre and Connor was a boring protagonist with no character development which is so weird considering he was written a lot better in the novel. The Haytham sequences were awesome though.
Rogue’s concept was great but executed so badly, it makes 0 sense that The Colonial Assassins blatantly desecrated their own creed and contradicting their own tenets by knowingly destroying a city and killing thousands of innocents and not to mention how they had their flags plastered all over New York… So much for “Never Compromise The Brotherhood” Like it would have made some sense if The Assassins were in a moral grey area rather than full on bad guys, they really made The Assassins in Rogue look like 1 dimensional cartoony ass villains.
Unity is the definition of wasted potential. This should have been the game where we had Arno & Connor team up against Shay. It’s insane to me how they brilliantly made Rogue’s ending coincide with Unity’s prologue and did absolutely nothing with it. Arno gives 0 shits Shay killing his father.
Syndicate almost felt like a really bad parody of Assassin’s Creed. I get that some people enjoyed Jacob’s dumb one liners and jokes but to me it just felt like this is the game where the franchise just stopped taking itself seriously anymore. I feel like Evie alone should have been the protagonist. The story was also so pointless, they spent the whole game trying to get The Shroud of Eden before the Templars do and when they barely beat the Templars to the punch, they just left it there… The one thing they’ve been after the whole time, they finally found it and then they just left it there.
Odyssey was a bewildering kaleidoscope of dog shit. The game has literally no redeeming qualities. I’m fully convinced the team that made Odyssey was like “Alright so Origins was great, now let’s contradict and undo everything in that game and take a massive shit over Assassin’s Creed as a whole” first off, didn’t make any sense for them to make a game that pre-dated Origins. Origins is called that because it’s… you know… the ORIGIN of the Assassins… So it fundamentally makes no sense at all to make an Assassin’s Creed game with no Assassins or Templars. Also you’d think that they’d adhere to their own rules with this game but they didn’t even do that… They literally put in Assassin’s Creed branding for the sake of cheap fan service. It makes absolutely no sense at all that Darius & Kassandra can do the exact same Leap Of Faith the Assassins do like 300 years before Bayek taught The Assassins how to do it. It’s so dumb that there’s some random slab of rock that has the words “Everything is Permitted”. It’s absurd that some random schmuck from The Order of Ancients (Who would later become The Templars) told Kassandra “All Things Are Permitted”. Imagine the maxim of the Assassins actually came from their sworn enemies, it’s such horrendous writing. They crammed so much Assassins Creed Branding on Darius, it’s ridiculous. He wears a hood, uses the hidden blade, he hides in the shadows, he has a freaking secret hidden bureau in the mountains, he is the literal embodiment of The Assassins 300 years before they existed it’s so transparent and cheap. It’s so laughably stupid that Kassandra stayed alive for over 2000 years because of the Staff of Hermes and as if that wasn’t hilarious enough, she was wearing a fucking suit. They also linked Aya from Origins to Kassandra which again makes no sense because that means that Aya should have had a good amount of First Civ DNA and in Origins, that was never the case, Aya HELD a Piece of Eden and NOTHING happened but Desmond only had like 0.95% of First Civ DNA and the Apple lit up like a freakin Christmas Tree when he held it. The family tree is so unbelievably fucked, it’s hysterical… Aya is a descendant of Kassandra, Darius, Leonidas, and Pythagoras… Wtf were they on when they wrote this? Also Leonidas is Kassandra’s Grandfather but he’s 150 years younger than her real Father who’s Pythagoras… Her Grandfather is a century and a half younger than her Father… It’s so comical that they expected anyone to take this story seriously. Also to show the passage of time of Kassandra’s son growing up in Egypt, they showed a Timelapse of The Pyramids being built even though in 472 BCE or whatever, The Pyramids were already built and have existed for over 2000 years. The Pyramids at that point should have already been ancient to them but apparently not since no one at Ubisoft Quebec seemed to have been paying attention during Middle School History.
Valhalla was just the nail in the coffin. While they did improve the RPG gameplay elements by a country mile, the story sucked. It’s so cliche and dumb that the big surprise twist they went for was that Eivor was just Odin reincarnated or some dumb shit. It was fine when they had mythological elements in Origins like Gods Boss Fights or whatever as like a thing that was separate from the main story but once they intertwined mythology with the main story, it lost me and this is coming from someone who’s a massive fan of mythology. I wanted so badly to like Odyssey cause Greek Mythology is my favorite but it was unbelievably hokey. The fact that they marketed Valhalla as “Vikings” and “Viking Adventure” and do shit “Like a Viking” was just so corny. Like it would have worked if it was it’s own thing, as far as a Viking Adventure game goes, it’s actually pretty great. As far as Assassin’s Creed goes, it’s fucking goofy as hell and just doesn’t belong.
I want them so badly to go to great stories that were somewhat grounded in reality and bring back the classic gameplay elements like Assassination Missions, blending in with the environment, social stealth, a combat system that isn’t like those stupid stiff RPG games, the economy system, etc
Origins may have been a fantastic game from a story aspect but it essentially fucked the franchise and set a terrible precedent for AC Games to turn into RPG games that just aren’t as good as actual RPG games like Witcher, Fallout, Skyrim, etc…

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
      @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames  2 года назад +1

AC 3 didn’t hook us either. And we’ve been told Evie is the more compelling assassin in Syndicate. Valhalla definitely was a fun Viking game but the assassin element to it took a backseat and was pretty irrelevant for the most part 🤔

    • @HuntingHawk
      @HuntingHawk 2 года назад

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I think Rogue was inherently bad because of how strongly connected to AC III it was. It was pretty much doomed to fail because of that. Connor played little to no part in furthering the Assassin narrative in AC III, his story was so disconnected from the Assassin vs Templar conflict and it just felt like he was caught in the middle of it but was only concerned with a personal vendetta rather than truly understanding what the Assassin Order was all about. Syndicate would have been a lot better if they’d made Evie the protagonist and if they had written an ending that even made just a little bit of sense.

My favorite Assassin's Creed will always be the first. It was the most different out of all of them and plays unlike any other in the series. The games didn't find their identity until 2 before taking a hard right turn and changing the gameplay in Origins - to be fair, a change was needed, even if many of us didn't like how they did it. The Ezio trilogy is a gaming classic with its high highs, and Revelations has gotten better with age since it originally was seen as a step-back from Brotherhood's massive improvements. 3 is underrated as well, and Black Flag is considered the crown jewel despite having the least to do with Assassin's Creed out of the main games. Unity has the best graphics and immersion with the best gameplay, Syndicate has some great characters, and Origins is a wonderful prequel to the entire franchise - a real love letter. Odyssey was funny for all the wrong reasons, and while I haven't played Valhalla since the gameplay has been so different after Origins and really turned a lot of players off, I do hear the story was decent compared to other series titles.
If you do plan on playing the Ezio trilogy, please react to Assassin's Creed 1's story. It relies heavily on your knowledge of Altair's story, especially in Revelations since it's Ezio's third game and Altair's second. Altair gets about a third of the game to himself, so it's important to know what transpired in 1 to appreciate the rest of the story.
The same thing applies to Assassin's Creed 3, you should watch the storyline for Rogue since it sets up most of the events; Unity starts right where Rogue ends as well. One of the interesting things about the Kenway Saga - 3, Rogue, and 4 - besides focusing on grandfather and grandson in Edward the Pirate and Connor the Native is that it paints the Assassins as more harmful than the Templars. Their involvement accidentally causes pain and suffering, and sometimes they do so deliberately in their dogmatic pursuits.

AC2, Brotherhood, and Black Flag stand out in my memory as my favourites of the franchise. AC3 in particular suffered a bit in my view because you spend part of the game playing as a character whom I found far more interesting and engaging than the actual protagonist. Syndicate had some fun parts and Evie in particular was great, but I felt a lot of missions were repetitive and some of the objectives for 100% sync fell on the wrong side of the frustrating/entertainingly challenging balance.

The historical accuracy is a bit rough, but most of the key characters in the game, truly did live back in the "Age of Piracy", being the late 1600's/early 1700's.
