Yes, we swedes frequently invite complete strangers into our homes. In fact: don't even bother waiting for an invitation! Just find a house, and enter! The screaming is just our customary welcome ritual.

Yeah I'm like... I just don't see this as a thing here lol. Maybe in some more rural areas like up North or something and it's not about being nice or not, the video itself brings up how Swedish people are reserved and it doesn't get much more uncomfortably close than to let someone into your home out of nowhere. I believe that's probably more frequent... almost anywhere else lol.

If you dont see a line but you see people around, ask them if they're in line
Correct! Don't assume people aren't in line because they look a little scattered. It's polite to ask if you're not sure.
The buss line is fun and chaotic. But everyone has their place in the cogwheel. You give way to those you have in front and letting those who would make a cleaner entering of the buss go first so you can slink into the void like the tooth of a cog.
This is however the busy all schoolchildren getting onto the school route buss busy busses. On all others its a clean line in the buss, if you don't step into the line others have observed you waiting and will more often enough let you take your place at the end where it made sense for you to be.

Of course you don't have your shoes on indoors. You leave dirt all over the floors and they have to clean up after you. I don't understand how this is such a foreign concept. Shoes outdoors, no shoes in homes.

Nocure92 In the US, having shoes off is more of a simple custom than a rule, and it's mostly only for comfort. People will think that you're weird for keeping your shoes on, not rude (unless you stepped in something). Most people keep their shoes on until they settle down somewhere inside, which they then take their shoes off for greater comfort.
My family has the rule of no shoes in the house as my mom hates cleaning but loves a clean home. Much unlike a bunch of people around us.

As a Swede, I can only find Swedish food during holiday seasons or at IKEA.
We actually don't have that many restaurants dedicated to our own food.
The best way to try Swedish food is to find a lunchrestaurant, usually only open between 11-14 and are often found near big industries.
An other good way to explore the Swedish food is to befriend a Swede, we love to show that we can speak english, and we most certainly would love to show you our foodculture.

Yeah and one thing about Swedes(yes im Swedish) is that we are most of the time very helpful so dont be afraid to ask a Swede if you have any questions. And also as mentioned in the video most people in Sweden are great at speaking english

As a Swede, I find this video HIGHLY accurate. The only thing I'd like to point out is that Stockholm is *extremely* overpriced, and doesn't reflect the rest of the country that well. They KNOW they can get away with those insane price tags because of the tourism. But if you check out the smaller towns just a couple of miles outside the capital, you'll notice that you'll be able to get things for much more managable prices. :)

by any measuring standard Sweden is much expensive if you compare with North America. typically to fulfill the basic needs.
obviously it has its perks in medical & education system.
for a tourist the cost diff matters.
here I am not comparing the hotel price in Linköping to that of NYC.
due to the harsh capitalist competition often prices can be unbelievably low in the US. which is not possible in a controlled economy like Sweden.
I am not supporting the former though.

Oh, I'm not saying that Sweden is cheap by any means. I know it can be pricey for tourists... ^^; I just wanted to point out that Stockholm is a lot more pricey than the rest of the country. I don't know if he has been in other smaller Swedish cities as well though. I just kinda assumed that he was mainly referring to Stockholm because he's filming from that location. But I could be wrong.
STILL, if you want to visit Sweden and have a tight budget, there are plenty of beautiful cities around the country that are a lot more affordable. ^-^

As a Swede I don't get why people in some other countries would even want to wear their outdoor shoes inside their home at all, especially if you have carpet floors. Not just because of the dirt you will drag inside but from a hygiene perspective as well. You need to let your feet air out once in awhile. If you have cold feet just wear indoor slippers instead. The only time I have wore shoes inside was when I stayed at a hotel in Britain with a carpet floor. It was so nasty I didn't want to take my shoes off. Maybe that's why people do it..

In the Americas, the houses have tiled floors, that actually get very cold and uncomfortable to stand on in nothing but socks.

The Squeee I learned the hard way with my first Swedish gf. They expect you to know their way. Even in business, we'd have a meeting. At the end, with nothing definitive said, we'd end the meeting. I had to ask what we decided. Weird.
+The Squeee i guess that in every country if you show up 30 minutes late without any true valid reason then it's just wrong and considered uneducated and irresponsible.
I was never late. One night, my dogs got out and it took me a bit to find them. I thought I should call my gf, but I opted, stupidly, to just go pick her up. It was a quiet ride to to Brigantine for a going-away party for another Au Pair. I heard her telling one of the other Au Pairs, in Swedish, that I was late and didn't call.
I didn't know how bad a thing it was. But I was angry she didn't explain. I mean, we were a couple. Tell me. Then, I'll know. She came instantly to where I had retreated to the kitchen. She explained there. It was a rare (Swedish) fight. It's a cultural thing. They take it very seriously.
Timothy O'Brien - one of the things I realised in the first years after I moved to Sweden 20 years ago is that your "tell me then I'll know" expectation just doesn't exist in Sweden. Swedes NEVER volunteer any information unless you ask the right question and even then they will often only give you the basic answer without any added details. Just my observation but I recognised it in your comment!

For me, who has in sweden my whole life I just find it unnatural to wear the same shoes inside as you do ouside as it brings dirt inside. I've never had full room carpets in my home and therefore I can't speak for those who do. I don't know if I would say it's customary but the norms I've noticed (at least in the South of the US) people tend to take their shoes off on their own homes but leave them on unless instructed otherwise by the owner of a home. My younger family cares less but my older family members get upset when your remove your shoes in their homes

I tyskland gör man det egentligen inte, men om det är lite mer officiellt (som ett möte, ett partaj o.s.v.) eller när man inte är så nära med sina gäster (sägs det så här i sverige? Hur som helst, jag hoppas att ni forstår vad jag menar), t.ex. har sina kollegor från jobbet på besök, kan det faktiskt hända att de inte ta skorna av sig. Jag vet inte varför, kanske vara att några männsikor känner att det är för mysigt och privat (eller deras fötter luktar bara illa).

Oh my god, this video makes me long for summer! I used to live in Stockholm but I moved to an island in the baltic sea called Gotland! (its a Swedish island) it's a very popular destination during summer for other swedes to visit (and lots of other people from around the world). Among lots of other amazing things we have a large medieval town with a big wall surrounding it called Visby, it's definitely worth a visit, they have ships going from Stockholm to Visby all year round but I recommend going during summer :)
At least 40% of the footage was from Gothenburg. I even saw my old apartment in one picture...hehehe.

I have been to Sweden twice, once as a high school student, and the second time when my daughter went there as an exchange student and I took my wife and other two daughters there to pick her up at the end of her stay. On our second trip, my daughter's host family said that they were going on vacation and graciously offered their apartment for our use during our stay. With the money we saved I rented a van and we traveled from Helsingborg to Stockholm and had an incredible time.
I would agree with almost everything said here but there are ways to get around the expense. First of all alcohol is expensive so many Swedes take the ferry from Sweden to Denmark to buy there booze and it is not unusual to see them with shopping carts full of booze on the ferry. If you are staying in the southern part of Sweden make sure you plan to take the ferry to Denmark and spend a day or two in Copenhagen, especially Tivoli Gardens. A bit pricey but well worth the money. If you want alcohol buy it in Denmark and take it with you.
Also if you want to save money both Sweden and Denmark have nice youth hostels, some which allow adults There is a great one in Stockholm that is a restored clipper ship from the early 20th century and you can sleep and eat on board. At the time I was there in the 90' s the price was 15.00 US per person but I'm sure that it has gone up. Still a nice deal though and worth checking out.
Sweden is a very safe country. I was amazed when we went to the train stations in Sweden and Denmark to see young high school and college students sleeping on the floors and benches in sleeping bags. Most major stations offer lockers and showers for travelers and the kids make the most of this, travelling with nothing more than back packs all over Scandanavia to rock concerts and other entertainment venues. I asked a guard in Stockholm if the kids presented a problem and he told me that several years back there was a murder and the government forbade further sleeping in the stations The kids petitioned the government to relent promising that they would police themselves and make sure that any illegal or violent activity would be reported to the police and they hadn't had single incidence since. Try that in America

Good don'ts. Here's 2 more: Don't ignore fika. If a swede says it's time for fika or simply just wants fika, you go have fika. Also, don't come here on midsummer. It'll be empty af (unless you've pre-planned so you're celebrating midsummer with friends in Sweden).

@@tagifts Midsummer is a tradition in Sweden where we do weird things like: building a pole and decorate it with a bunch of flowers and then dance around it, there's a lot of weird songs like "Små grodorna" (Small frogs) and do the strangest dance you've ever imagined, put flowercrowns on your head, eat disgusting fish with other typical swedish tradition food. Of course there's a lot more...

We are just finishing up a MONTH in Sweden and luckily avoided most of these pitfalls. We did get to try the fermented herring (with full knowledge) at our hosts lake cabin, outside. He even opened the can underwater to ensure he didn't get sprayed. It STINKS! but it was actually quite good when prepared properly. We've really enjoyed our time here and the people are so nice! -Henry

You know... First time I opened a surströmmings-can I got sprayed all over my hair and the smell stayed for about 3 days even though I washed it 2-3 times a day. Haha I was about 12 back then and learned the hard way to hold it under water.

I'm Norwegian ancestry, of course we have our own "unique" snack, you may have heard of Lutefisk, the dried cod, sometimes other fish are used, that is preserved in a lye solution over the winter, then eaten in spring and summer, at least that was the description from my Uncle Adolph Pederson, not pronounced. P-etter-son, but exactly like Peterson. I will never ever eat the stuff, it has the consistency of slimy goo. In the US they have festivals in Minnesota mainly, and Lutefiik is the big dish. Australian's have Vegemite, the Scots have Haugus, not sure about the spelling.
The rural countys of Sweden, as Dalsland, Jämtland, Småland or Värmland, is well worth a visit. And it's more cheep than Stockholm. Welcome! 🌻🌲🍄
And going north to Norrland. Way more sympatic people up here then in stockholm.

Unfortunately there's gang related violence even in Sweden. The article you are referring to informs about attacks with grenades (probably handgrenades) related to population are as common in Sweden as in Mexico. If this is true or not I have to leave unsaid as I don't have any insight in the matter.

Just Zane I am Swedish, but grew up with English so I don't have an accent, but my whole family is Swedish and my cousin talks exactly like pewdiepie when he speaks English. And I think it's just trying to pronounce English like you pronounce Swedish.

Traveled to Sweden with my wife to celebrate our 30th anniversary in June this year, wow what a beautiful country. So much to see and yes things do cost more. FYI Max is a great fast food (hamburger shop) and for groceries try Maxi.

Robert Beuschlein you found it out. Yes Max is lovely. Most i would say. Sadly my nearest are 50 km away. Maxi have great grocery. Not so long to it. Ica in general are good too. Have a great Ica Nära nearby. And they speak with the customers and do own foid to holidays.

Dovenpeis funny how everyone who has actually been or lived in sweden says that its really safe and the people who say that its dangerous and bad have most likely never been there. Im pretty sure that whatever country youre from has parts that are comparable to mexico as well. Just because there are bad areas it doesnt mean the whole country is is a shithole.
Sweden is a fantastic Country! From the lush south all the way up to the most northern Lappland. Visit Lappland, and go see the mountains, for example.
It is diverse, and you miss out a lot if you only go to Stockholm, Göteborg or Malmö. We are so much more then those cities!
