i wanted to give you a really big thank you i am in a really dark place atm and your videos are always there when i need them, thank you, you saved my life
Ah, this episode. I remember the first time I watched it and boy, was it painful. You're probably tired of hearing this but in the "original" it hits a bit harder because it has a bit more of build up. But don't think Brotherhood is worse, it's just that these few first episodes they had to kinda skim over to move the show along cause I think they assumed most of the audience that watched the first anime would already haven seen these episodes. Also interesting observation about Mustang. I am pretty sure you'll like to see his backstory and how he develops.
It's interesting to see how Brotherhood handles Roy Mustang. In the Manga and the first anime he gets his own badass introduction, while he's borderline useless in the first parts of Brotherhood xD He gets his time to shine later of course and maybe those moments stand out more because of it, but at the moment he's not much more than some instructor for Ed and Al who does paperwork. Which is quite unfortunate. I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it, but the reason that Brotherhood is so fast paced in the beginning is that it was released in 2009, only 6 years after the first adaptation. It operates under the assumption that most viewers have already watched the first adaptation (which was a legitimate assumption considering how successfull FMA 2003 and FMA in general were). So it rushes the beginning in order to get to the new stuff quickly, which is probably completely fine if Brotherhood is the first version you watch, but leaves me personally (who has probably consumed more FMA than feasable) a little big unsatisfied with how it handles a few things. So i would recommend you to watch at least the beginning of FMA 2003, after you finish Brotherhood and want more :D That said, it's impressive how they cram the three episodes about Shou Tucker from FMA 2003 into one and it still manages to hit hard. RIP. I really like your insightful additions in the reaction, it makes watching the reaction a whole new viewing experience for me (same was true for your Avatar and Korra reactions!)
As I just watched this episode before you, omg that was so disturbing, and why did he have to kill the father first... I almost dreaded watching your reaction because I'd have to rewatch parts of the episode and it's too fresh lol BUT I needed to see someone else go through this with me! So thanks for being there haha Edit: Also, child/dog didn't even need to die. I'm sure they could've found a loving home.
Yeah I think some people see it as mercy and while I can sympathize, I think "her" death in the end is yet another tragedy. And you're right about the order of events, wth.
Your reviews are on point. Your eloquency, emotional intelligence and wits are enjoyable to witness/hear. :) A lot of reviewers do not have your ability to connect the dots on the criticism against religion/science, all the primary sins... Thanks again.
LoK: Bosco got eaten. FMB: Ameatur! And after joining your watch through, I'm nearly done with part 3. This is so much better than what I remember from watching the first anime pass of the franchise. Why did I have to start bingewatching this show during my busiest semester? While I figure I'll finish it soon, I'm looking forward to your thoughts on eps. Onward with this wild ride!
I watched this story from the original show, and it scared me for life... I remembered it till now... and a dog human hybrid haunts me when the idea pop into my head for whatever reason.. they deliberately mate the play time so fun and meaningful innocent and cute for everything to hit so much harder when it went down hill.. yes it is really hard to watch.. even just through a reaction video
Ah yes, this episode. I was waiting for this episode. Just want to tell you, in the original series that whole episode was way darker and hearbreaking, yes, yes it was. Hope to see you react to what's to come, prepare youself.
Usually I recommend people picking this anime up for the first time to watch the OG (not Brotherhood) up until a specific part (the Funeral. Ya'll know what I mean) and then rewatch Brotherhood, because the connection you have with Nina, Shou, Alexander and _others_ is much, much deeper. You spend a fair amount of time with them and so this episode comes along and .... yeah. Trauma. Welcome to the family.
Yes, the trauma, the wound still fresh. This time hurt a little less cuz of the dub and it felt slightly rushed compared to fma but still burns a lot 🙂🔥💔
NO SPOILERS HERE!!! In the original FMA the boys actually spent more time with Nina and Shou and it wasn’t much hint as to Shou’s true nature with the reflection in the glasses so the reveal at the end definitely hits harder in the original especially in the original they slowly piece it together before coming face to face with the creature.
Episode 3 is about the evils of religion when pushed to the extreme, this episode is about the evils of science when pushed to the extreme. Both are important in shaping Ed and Al's views for the rest of the series...it's such a great way to illustrate the importance of moderation and not losing sight of the humanity between the two.
Episode 3: What happens when you take Faith to the extreme Episode 4: What happens when you take Science to the extreme I see what you did there, FMA:B.

The eye detail is interesting! Something to look out for
I couldn't agree more with your analysis about the consept of values & principles, absolutely impressive 👍
Hello everyone not that any of you care but I change my username. I use to be Korra, The Avatar. Anyway love the videos keep up the great work.
Hi :) That is good to know.
And thanks!
'I feel sad for Shou Tucker'. Errr are you sure? 😅
By the end I hated him. That being said his story is tragic too. And as hard as it is to sympathize with him at all, he's an extreme of something that I can understand.
@@AGoodwinTV It is also show the correlation to the modern world that pushes scientist for results to maintain their ability to do research. No result, no funding which creates so much pressure and take a toll on the person. Sad but truth in the field.
I love Roy Mustang 🥰 Pretty sure you'll start to like him a lot soon.
This episode was so disturbing to me, you really sympathize with the father and you want him to succeed and when he says he's gonna spend time with his daughter you're happy, but then they punch you in the gut. I could have seen that chimera in my nightmares
you have finally experienced it. Now a open you with open arms to Fullmetal Alchemist.
i wanted to give you a really big thank you i am in a really dark place atm and your videos are always there when i need them, thank you, you saved my life
Thank you, I'm glad
I had always heard of this episode but was not aware it was episode 4. Suffice to say I was not prepared.
This one is a tear jerker for sure
Episode 3: the extremes of religion
Episode 4: the extremes of science
I love your reactions, so clever insight in the themes of the series and the psique of the characters. This series just gets better every episode.
You have been officially baptized into the show
me early
Also me : *sees 17 comments alr me SERIOUSLY 😑
As I just watched this episode before you, omg that was so disturbing, and why did he have to kill the father first... I almost dreaded watching your reaction because I'd have to rewatch parts of the episode and it's too fresh lol BUT I needed to see someone else go through this with me! So thanks for being there haha
Edit: Also, child/dog didn't even need to die. I'm sure they could've found a loving home.
Yeah I think some people see it as mercy and while I can sympathize, I think "her" death in the end is yet another tragedy. And you're right about the order of events, wth.
The previous episode was the extremes of religion. This one is the extremes of science.
Onward with this wild ride!
that "can we play now" is just....OUCH FUCK....
Yooooo been waiting for this all day today
The infamous fmab episode 4. Btw nice reactions 🙋 i subscribed 🙏🙌
6:08 "poor Shou Tucker"
yeah. . .hold that thought
Ah yes, this episode. I was waiting for this episode. Just want to tell you, in the original series that whole episode was way darker and hearbreaking, yes, yes it was.
Hope to see you react to what's to come, prepare youself.
The thing I love about this episode is that for the rest of the show, the grief of Nina motivates Ed and Al.
I saw you were doing this episode, and my reaction was manic laughing. Welcome to the series proper!
i’m catching up to your rn since I’m watching FMAB along with you and this episode was so messed up ahhh, glad to not be going through it alone lol
I'm so stoked you're reacting to this series !!!:)
This episode's already done, but there's still THAT episode, guys.
I actually enjoy your insightful commentary, Goodwin.
Is it safe to watch like... Should i join trauma club?
Also, great reaction as always even if i havent seen it 😅
NO SPOILERS HERE!!! In the original FMA the boys actually spent more time with Nina and Shou and it wasn’t much hint as to Shou’s true nature with the reflection in the glasses so the reveal at the end definitely hits harder in the original especially in the original they slowly piece it together before coming face to face with the creature.
"got quit punch for little guy"
Remember Eds right arm is metal, So there's a lot of weight be hind those punches.
As soon as Tucker appeared on screen my mind just went completely blank and all I heard was a high pitch ring 🙁
One of the few times a character getting fridged is GOOD writing. X3
Episode 3: What happens when you take Faith to the extreme
Episode 4: What happens when you take Science to the extreme
I see what you did there, FMA:B.
