It is said that FMA fans only had one meme but that is not true, WE USED TO HAVE TWO!
The more Melon kept talking, I kept saying "She's making it WORSE, SHE'S MAKING IT WORSE!"

we have meeting in episode 4 support group on thuesdays
"We're not gonna get *sad* are we?" Imagine watching this as a teen, or younger. My big sister introduced me to the show when I was like 11 or 12, and even after getting over the shock of *human transmutation* I vividly remember crying at how this story in particular, and my sister expected I'd cry even more.
This was my first episode...was like wtf
I think the original version was just a little bit darker than the brotherhood version. Still the best dark episode though!
saw the original when i was like 5
@@infinite-sadness Name checks out...
@@bobmanperson599 the sadness didn't come until much later. Don't think i grasped the full weight of the scene until watching Brotherhood. Now i just laugh when i see it because of how it catches people off guard.
"Maybe it was a good idea to stay with the dad then."
Oh my...
I mean, it wasn't like she had a choice.
"He'll figure something out"
Yes... I guess you could say that... 😳😭
I have seen this hundreds of times now and it still hurts every time 😢
I saw the chimera scene in the 1st FMA back in 2004 as a kid... it left such an impression on me that I'm still haunted by it to this day. This anime taught me so much about the fragility of life.
2004 was way worse since we had 2 episodes with Nina
@@dudeman47731 and Tucker stayed in the show longer
@@dudeman47731 It overall handled the Chimera differently with it escaping and Ed finding it's remains in the alley. I felt it hit harder than Brotherhoods version, not that Brotherhood is pulling any punches either.
@@timokampwerth1996 i love 2004s early game, mid and late game was interesting
@@infinite-sadness and We got disturbing imagery of them on the wall when they were killed by Scar. That part sticks with me
Last episode showed the extremes of Religion
This episode shows the extremes of Science
Next episode will show how a revenge seeking murder can be justified in his killing when there only aimed at the right person. As in the ones at fault.
@@tommcburney301 eeeeh not really. The show is leaning to quite the opposite. It clearly says that revenge and especially killing in general is never justified. It might be necessary but it´s never good. You clearly missed the point of Scars entire story
@@JBasilixI agree that revenge is mostly unjustifiable. But in the case of episode 4 (not including the events of future episodes). Scar was ignorant to the fact that Ed wasn't a state Alchemist during the events of the Isvalan civil war. Meaning he wasn't part of the conflict. Overall, vengence is only justified when trying to take on the right people.
@@tommcburney301 Yeah but your opinion doesn´t matter in this context. We are talking about the messages of this show and its episodes. The show is clearly about killing being unjust no matter what. You might have to kill in self defense but it is to be avoided if possible. And bloody revenge is always bad. Not in a single episode do they make the point that revenge is good even against those deserving. It is completely contra to your opinion and your statement in your initial comment.
I was anticipating this episode like "lmao melon doesn't know how fucked up this is about to get" and I STILL cried watching this.
"It's episode 4, I'm exited to get into this one" "it's episode 4 we're not gonna get sad this fast" she doesn't know
Episode 3: faith without questions
Episode 4: science without morals
The second I saw the dog in the thumbnail, I knew we was gonna watch the most notorious scene in this show. This show pulls no punches and that's part of why its so good even years later.
Here’s your official welcome to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood!
The infamous episode 4. When first time viewers realize that they aren't going to be pulling any punches in this series.
The murder with the glasses killed Mina out of mercy. If he hadn't, she woul of lived the rest of her short life in a lab somewhere as a test subject.
She was in physical/emotional pain, and could only expect more if her life had continued.
As horrible as it was, he did right thing for Nina. She would have been a test subject
As a fan who watched it thirteen years ago.... you will never get over it, it will always be too soon
The author always drew the characters in the series who died going to heaven. Tucker was the only one who went to hell.
i think she even drew **spoiler big bad guy with the "best vision" spoiler** going to heaven
@@PandamoniumBruu she is actually making a new manga now
@@ben0789 oh, really? what's the name?
i really liked Silver Spoon too.
@@PandamoniumBruu daemon and the shadow realms
@@ben0789 she has silver spoon, arslan, and yomi no tsugai. Silver spoon was fun and gave a glimpse to farm life and education. Arslan seems ongoing and depics old warfare with fun characters and a touch of magic. Yomi is very new and seems to be off to a good start with more supernatural elements than we have seen since fma.
There's a point to having the last two episodes back to back. The previous one warns against relying on unfounded faith, and this one warns against leaning too hard on cold reality. The nature of religion and science, taken too far and used for self-serving purposes. This sets the moral boundaries for our main characters in their quest, and creates a firm understanding of how far is too far. The influence of both these episodes will be felt throughout the entire show, and not just in terms of plot-based references. Just one of many reasons this is such a beloved story.
Having aspergers myself is probably the reason I tend to lean very heavily to the science side of things.
But it seems some people sadly forget that our emotions are a part of what makes us human.
You don't get to ignore emotions, faith, etc. as they're part of the "human experience".
There is a lot of experiments we could do that would greatly improve our understanding of many things, even save lives, that we don't do because they would be unethical.
@@Londronable As an aspie myself, hear, hear.
Also for me, Nina is the one thing the 03 version made that hurt worse than it’s Brotherhood counterpart because there were more episodes with her being involved
The minute I saw that you were reacting to episode 4, I was like "Yup, you are about to be heartbroken." Both Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood sure do know how to tug the heart strings. I was as well. Tucker is single handedly the most hated Anime Character because of this. Keep reacting to this, and when yiu get a chance i highly recomment FMA 2003, The original Fullmetal Alchemist. Its really good too. That person. Edward 🐶
This is by far the darkest episode in the series! You had the EXACT REACTION THAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO EVER WATCHED THIS HAD!
The original executed this better. They paced it over several episodes, and later in the series, if I recall.
At times I have to wonder if something is wrong with me. I love seeing people's reaction to this episode and other moments like this in anime. The anger, sadness, frustration, and despair are so genuine, I can't help but grin and laugh.
We can now say: "Welcome to Fullmetal Alchemist."
*Oh my God.. I forgot how early in the show this happens*
I'm not ready 😭
Also, I loved seeing all your bad takes before the reveal! The show really does throw you off the scent while dangling a carrot just infront of you... THEN BAM, YOU REALISE HOW FUCKED UP TUCKER IS 😂
Scar is for sure my favorite character in this show!
This is probably the 2nd hardest to watch episodes in the series, but trust me when I say they are plot relevant.
I always forget THIS episode was so early in the series....and it always hurts the same.
Welcome to the club...and my sympathies.
6:59
AniMelon: He will figure something out
Everyone else: Onion cutting time
This episode reinforce 3 things:
The tone of the show
The extent of what alchemists can and how are some willing to go
The topic science vs God that the show will explore in som extent trough all the series.
First thing I thought when I clicked this video was "this is okay" but Melon's AAA reaction has questioning my previous stance.
Now you know why that snuffing monster is the number 1 most hated character in anime history
As a dog lover, owner, and older brother, this episode still makes my soul hurt
This is a dark masterpiece of an episode.
*sends hugs and coffee*
7:01 "awww this is getting kind of sad. I'm sure he'll figure something out." 🙂
The depth of the psychologically, sociology, humanity, the willingness to go to far, religious/personal beliefs, and the trial of holding to oneselfs' true essence is what makes this series so great. Everything is masterfully crafted from the surroundings, dialog and character interaction. The Adult Swim version does do a good job of conveying these things across, but as it was on going at the time the filler took away some of the suspense; however they did end strongly. Be prepared for an emotional story. Alot to unpack with this story.
I’m amazed that you managed to avoid spoilers for this episode.
it's sweet seeing how optimistic she is, right before the illusion completely shattered. 🤣
As far as the mom leaving, when I was getting a divorce from my now ex-wife she took off and disappeared and left me with our son for about a year and a half to 2 years. Eventually she met her now husband and got her life together and has come back into our son's life. We even repaired our damaged relationship and are extremely close friends. So the mom taking off does happen, but I agree it is rare
Honestly, I think she handled this episode pretty well (all things considered) first time I saw this I literally crushed my ps3 controller in my hands…
I forgot how good that episode was. Even watching this reaction I still tear up from the theme of the episode.
Cow goes mooh, Cat goes meow, Mouse goes squeek and the Dog goes EEEDDDDWWWAAAARRDDD
You are so empathetic, it makes ur content just.. pure.
I was hoping you wouldn't get here so soon, this is something you'll never forget.
Also, the guy who voices the father is the same guy who voiced Emperor Pilaf.
And who voices #17
Even now this episode still trips me up.
As dark as this episode was we can just be glad Melon saw it through this series and not the first full metal alchemist, this version is a watered down version of that
I think that my favorite thing is that out of all the characters that die, Shou Tucker is the only one that in the manga "In Memoriam" section was seen in Hell..lol, truly the worst of the worst.
On a related note, there's a shirt with Nina and Alexander doing the fusion dance that I desperately want..haha
I binged your Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged series reactions, and that easily made me wanna subscribe, but this one gonna have me supporting on Patreon f'sho. I love how in just the first few episodes I can already tell you're in the perfect mindset to get the most out of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Prepare for heartbreak, joy, and the greatest cast of characters of all time; don't even @ me!
Honestly i absolutely forgot this the chimera episode was ep#4. All I gotta say is melon is you finna go on a journey. you gotta be bout that life to get through this anime. That outro tho. just "Melon out." I am screaming!! lol
that growing horror never gets old :F
The best way that I've seen the last two episodes is probably the most accurate way:
Episode 3 is about Religion without Logic
Episode 4 is about Science without Ethics
I strongly recommend to whoever likes this to watch the original fullmetal alchemist it's pretty much everything before brotherhood. It's pretty awesome how the brothers learned alchemy and there teacher is such a bad ass
Keep in mind Ed is barely a teen during the epsiode. Imagine going through this at THAT age.
I think at that Point the Child was just caring for the Father out of Instinct, cause she didnt understood what happened.
Im impressed you never got spoilered by anyone, there are so many Memes and Top 10 Lists and Reactions, all about this Moment.
I for my Part did go in fully knowing what happens, and I dont know the Mother vanishing, and the talking Chimera, his Laboratory, the slight hints of unease whit the Timelimit in the Framing and Musik, I belife I would have figured it out on the Atmosphäre alone.
Thank God you're watching the dub, it's so much better than the sub version
"He'll figure something out."
Me: *insert dark and maniacal laughter, remembering how dark this shit gets*
Ah! The feels episode.
1:26 Yeah, the opening(s) of Brotherhood fall into this "you've read the manga, so we're just gonna spoil everything" category. Okay, not everything-everything, but from the start it's full of elements that don't show up till I dunno like 15 more episodes.
If it helps to know in advance, the show doesn’t dip this dark too often. There’s maybe a few gut punches over 60+ episodes and some fridge horror.
I feel like it is quite enough to get wrecked in the 4th ep. Took me about 20 more episodes to recover from this after seeing it for a first time back then. :D
" This is the 4th episode !!!! " my literal reaction after this episode
In the manga, there are a few chapters (that are episodes in OG Fullmetal but with their stories skewed) that are upbeat and give you a sense joy and triumph before hitting you with this storyline. Because Brotherhood had to retread certain plots, they had to tell it in a bit of a rushed manner. After Part 1 (of 5) the pacing slows down a little bit.
How many times have I seen this, and how many times have I cried watching this, this anime is a masterpiece and the emotions you can feel while watching this are just incredible
Zen hugs from across the internet. If it helps, FMA matches the darkness with equal joy at various points. It will make you hurt, and lift you back up, and that is part of why I love it.
This is the episode that usually breaks people.
Vic is so damn good in these kinda scenes
This is my favorite episode when watching Reactors, seeing someone who has genuinely watched this series for the first time watch this episode is amazing.
There are two types of people in the fma brotherhood fandom those who cry over this episodes and those who cried and now joke and wait for other to experience the trauma. Ed almost broke his one rule this episode and killed someone.
Finally, A reactor who didnt put the pieces together in time. So satisfying to see someone with my brain waves. I didnt see it coming either.
If you can believe it... It gets darker. Welcome to the Trauma Club. There is a phrase you should learn, "Too soon, forever too soon."
most wholesome episode in anime history
Police. This comment here.
@@Jimmeeehhh i did nothing wrong, just like Shou Tucker
Welcome to the FMA brotherhood fanclub, this episode was your test :)
She is not quite there yet. She still has one more test to complete.
@@mastertadakatsu It's a terrible day for rain.
I remember watching the Nina/Dog scene in the OG FMA. It’s something that kinda… sticks with you
0:15 - ".. we're not gonna get sad, are we..."
No .. we're gonna just die on the inside a little
This episode's equivalent in te original FMA was called "Night of the Chimera's Cry", and was every bit as brutal if not more so. Also by this point, Edward hadn't learned he could use no-drawing alchemy yet. He made Nina a snowman with a regularly drawn circle! :D
"I like Roy" Yesss, you get it
Nina: If they do say no, me and Alexander will growl at them until they say yes........oh boy will you ever
I laugh every time someone reacts to episode 4, then my teenage mental scars reopen 🥲
Amazing. Want to go through with this journey again.
Madam... this show will make you cry and rage. A lot. There's a reason fans call it Feelsmetal Alchemist.
Edit: Last episode showed us the dangers of religious zealotry and this episode the horrors of unchecked science...
I love it when you can see the exact moment a reactor realizes what/who the creature was.
Hi Melon Andrew here but you know that all ready this episode is so sad 😞 wen I wacd it the first time I was in the middle of it I put it on pause for several minutes just so I could go and get my thoughts together
And and then I came back to finish it
This is one of the most tragic anime moments
Nina Tucker and Alexander the Dog
And after this moment had ended 😢 I need a few days of from Fullmetal Alchemist
I just discovered your channel, this episode is one of the hardest episodes to watch in the series. You got a new sub and I'm looking forward to seeing you react to my favorite anime series ever FMA Brotherhood.
Although many people (practically the entire fandom) express nothing but hatred for Shou Tucker, viewing him as a Complete Monster, I've always held a different view towards him. From what I can tell, he was more of an amoral (not having a sense of morality) man than an immoral (purposely going against morality) one. His actions were driven more out of desperation, rather than ill-intent, assuming he could even recognize such a thing in the first place. He did all of those things without even being able to comprehend why any of it was wrong. As far as he knew, all he did was just break a rule that didn't make any sense. He honestly couldn't understand the weight of his own actions.
Although he already crossed a strong moral line by turning his wife into a chimera, I feel that it is worth noting how he didn't do it again until he was running out of time, showing a sense of restraint/hesitation. And the way he embraced Nina (after telling her what "Evaluation Day" meant), implied that he at least relied on her for emotional support. I'm not justifying his actions. Not even close. But I am acknowledging certain details that might've been missed by others. In the end, Shou Tucker is an example of how obsession can cause a person to loose their humanity. And sometimes without even realizing it. Just look at Endeavor.
And so, despite everything he did. Despited how selfish and depraved his actions were. What I feel for him is more along the lines of pity, rather than hatred. He gave up everything good in his miserable life, just to achieve a dream of his, and died without being able truly understand what he had done to get there.
I like he compares himself to Ed and Al like they did it for the the same reasons . They did it for the love of their mom and he did it twice to his own family for his greed and ego.
Watching how the play scene was so fun... this is gonna be a good react.
The slow zoom in during the reveal was incredible
You could say nina and the dog are now closer than ever
No
"he actually really cares for her."
Me: 👁👄👁
Welcome to FMAB. Can't wait for more.
i heard the author loved it to show how the souls of people going to heaven at the end of a chapter, but in this one the soul of the father goes straight down to hell.
This show does a great thing with this dark moment. It lets it stand as the darkest the show ever gets, and makes sure it’s never forgotten, while the characters try to make sure nothing like it ever happens again. The first anime takes a different approach, and uses this same moment as a tone-setter, continually trying to one-up how dark the show can get all the way up to the end. One of the many reasons I prefer Brotherhood.
The exitement before the episode begins, I'm so sorry for you
The realization hitting your face was just
There’s only one more episode that brings me this much pain
lmaoooo best reaction to this episode I have seen in a while ! Mind you I saw that episode on tv when I was like 10 in the morning before school. F'd me up for days !
The one reactor who didn't suspect that Tucker was sus. Good reaction though!
once you've seen dragonball z it's hard to imagine android 17's voice being used for another character.
He also voiced Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho and Android 13 in DBXenoverse 2 (DLC)
Just seeing the thumbnail...I already knew....we all knew...

in the 2003 series it's so much worse because Nina is actually around for several episodes.
for what it's worth, thus is probably the darkest the series gets.
