    Wow! I'm doing the exact same thing your doing but with a 2006 Mustang Gt and a 1967 F100 shortbed! I didn't use the back end chassis of the Mustang like you did, just the front seats forward. I plan on making a custom frame to attach to the Mustang frame and I'm using the Mustang rearend.
    Don't know about you, but I've had to lift and lower that freaking cab frame over the Mustang I don't know how many times!!! LOL

    Nice,,, lm building a 66 ford pickup as my winter project,, built a 45 dodge pickup last year,, lm going orginal with the orginal 352 and twin Ibeem with lowering arms,, the frame was so good and only 38,000 miles on truck l couldn't chop it up for me having 9 classic cars I'm restoring is too not melest them keeping with the old days,,l grew up with factory race cars,,my first car was a 67 Dodge charger second 70 challenger and third 73 charger SE,,,lm old school..did do TCI independent suspension on the 45 the straight Axle rode ruff,,, but the twin Ibeem was fine and I really prefer the steering box over a rack and pinion..lm not planning on circle track racing.. your telling me changing the front suspension is a bitch and changes everything to make it work and look right,, the twin Ibeem was used from 65 to 97 in ford trucks so they got it right and with the lowering kit you can get the same thing with alot less complicated of build and keep the tradition going.

    Man, this just ran across my feed. Subscribed in a flash. Exactly what I want to do. I have a chance to grab a mustang 2017 convertible to do this with. Question, if there was a better match vehicle than the unibody what would you use?

    • @FactoryFreshChannel
      @FactoryFreshChannel  2 года назад

      Honestly any of the 1961-66 slicks side Ford trucks or 1967-72 bump side trucks or even newer. Unibody’s are the hardest because the bed is not separate. On all other trucks with a separate bed and cab the shortening of the bed to match the chassis is a lot easier. Good luck! The convertible mustang is a good option because it has some reenforcement in the rocker panels

    No one interested in how well the platform copes with such a major change in upper structure??
    I’d expect torsional and beaming strength would be substantially different.
    Any pre- mod data on the donor platform/ post modification test?

    • @FactoryFreshChannel
      @FactoryFreshChannel  2 года назад +1

      Their was zero flex in the unibody mustang chassis after it was cut down. Lots of added structure with the truck body tied in. The only extra support a mustang convertible has is a small support in the rocker. This is far more ridged than a lot of frames I’ve dealt with without a body attached

      I looked at doing a similar swap with some Australian GM products ( 62 body on a 1987 uni body platform ) and despite it being feasible, wheelbase and width near perfect, the project was shelved due to red tape and engineering approval ..just too much work to satisfy engineer and registration department.
      I enjoyed the upload and all the work that you have done 👍🏻from Australia

      @@FactoryFreshChannel I thought about buying the 1967 mustang fastback conversion kit and the fabricating the front and adding those panels onto a 2016 donor. So it seems the best way is to buy a complete classic then use those parts and vin?

    • @FactoryFreshChannel
      @FactoryFreshChannel  2 года назад

      @kemerernicholas on a chassis swap my preference is to put a old vintage vehicle on a modern chassis for all the obvious reasons. I also like to have a complete old donor vehicle so I can register it as the old vehicle and not a newer one. You may have issues if the vehicle looks old but is registered as a modern one if it doesn’t look the part?
