    I’ve had the app since it came out. Even if you don’t always find yourself meditating there’s still a TON of great philosophy on this app. And a great thing that I’ve found with Sam since his first book”The End of Faith” was published,there’s absolutely no BS with him. He still blows my mind with insights I don’t see coming but probably should after having it happen time after time since 2005.

    • @jeetray11
      @jeetray11 2 года назад +2

      I am the same way. I had no business with religion or spirituality. I have also discounted meditation all my life considering its a bunch of BS. Becaused I followed Richard Dawkins and the likes I found Sam and his books (especially lying and free will) and felt his razor sharp insights. They pulled me much more because my personal philosophy was already on that path. So when I saw his waking up - spirituality without religion - I couldn't help but check it out.

    I have the app and membership and using it for more than 3 months and I am watching this video. Weird right? The title of the video attracted me. 'Don't buy this until you see this' - usually mean there is a problem with the product and ppl should not buy it. Did you craft the title simply to attract more people to your video? What if a person who perhaps wanted to buy the product but was neutral about it and saw the title of your video and without watching the video decides it is a no go? Is it possible? Then you are doing a disfavor to the product which is surely not your intention.
    So that is just a quick feedback from my side about the title and how I landed on this video. But after I watched almost all of the video - I have to give you a Kudos on how well presented it is. I even didn't know the layout that clearly after using it for more than 3+ months.

    Appreciate your review of the app. I'm on Day 12 of the Intro work, but it's unclear if there's theory material I'm meant to be looking at. I think Sam suddenly mentioned some other during one of the sessions, and it threw me for a loop. I assume it's the Theory material, but that's not very clear from the app.
    Anyway, I'm a big fan of Sam, and I'm going to stick with his app. As you mention, his experience and intellect are very unique, and I can't imagine a better teacher of meditation for me. I honestly wouldn't have given meditation a try but for Sam's repeated exhortations.
    Lastly, I see you're only starting out with your channel, but this was really well-done. I wouldn't have been at all surprised to find you had 500MM subs. Good luck!

      Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. And agreed even now I'm still confused about how to approach the theory part. Honestly I just listen to it here and there but I should try to do it more.
      And it's the same thing on my end, it was Tim Ferriss who ended up pushing me over the edge and mentioning the waking up app.
      And ooo man, that means so freaking much! Thank you so much for your kind words. I really really appreciate them.
      Good luck on your meditation and be sure to keep it up!

    I am so grateful they allowed to use app for free for a year because I am so low on funds it's not affordable. Their sleep meditation did wonders for me during most difficult time of my life. I rarely write anything about these type of apps as I am more skeptic (tried a few) but I highly approve and recommend it.

    I installed this app because I was not satisfied with Calm and Headspace and this app presented a different approach. Well I am a month in and I find it very confusing, too much philosophy and the “ headless “ thing sounds like mumbojumbo. This approach makes me question and thinking more which is the opposite of what meditation should do . Sam Harris focus so much on the headless concept because according to him it supposed to help you to find the observer, the one that is looking , you as consciousness. I still don’t know if I should imagine it in my mind or if I supposed to see it with my physical eye’s which is not possible of course . Yea… this sound ego ‘s material , food for the ego .

    • @jonasnystrom5739
      @jonasnystrom5739 Год назад

      Ive meditated for years n i still find the headless way one of the harder to grasp , but the essence is in my understanding is that when you look for "yourself" after a while you understand there is nothing there . But that aside theres several different techniques on the app , try around till you find one that suits you at the moment

    The problem with meditation itself are all the different apps/theories/meditation-spiritual gurus on meditation. The biggest paradox of all is how they will teach you to not seek anything through meditation practices, i.e. peace of mind, positive feelings, a sense of calm, but that is really just the other side of the same coin, an attempt to not seek.
    If the goal is acceptance, then a person should never meditate.

    • @jaytallawah
      @jaytallawah Год назад

      Yep you are correct! That's why meditation is the art of doing nothing! Everything is just as it should be. However our minds don't want to accept that so we train in just letting things be.

    • @aarondixon7
      @aarondixon7 11 месяцев назад

      I dint agree..Meditation has helped me up my level of acceptance. Everyone is different tho. Do you.

    • @jaytallawah
      @jaytallawah 11 месяцев назад

      @@aarondixon7 Same here however the real goal of meditation is to erase the boundaries between practice and ordinary life. There is no difference between paying attention on a cushion and any other moment of waking life if you direct your attention appropriately.

    Sam Harris is great and i have used the free videos he has on his channel.
    But I will say to all those who are low on funds, you absolutely don't need an app to help you get into meditation. Just pick one form of meditation instead of bouncing from one form to another.
    Any simple Indian or Buddhist form of meditation will do. And after that it's just about sharpening the proverbial Blade of meditation thru daily, steady practice.
    Aum

    Anyone experiencing increased instances of dissociation and/or depersonalisation since using the app?
    I really like Sam Harris he is a deep thinker and I think he means well but I find he contradicts himself. He advises the listener to just observe thoughts, sensations emotions etc just as they pass through consciousness, basically dissociating from them which apparently is a key aspect of mindfulness, vipasanna technique. However, then in a short clip from a podcast he mentions the that common way of mediating, thinking that you are watching your thoughts going past like an observer watching a river flow is actually wrong, you are the river.
    So which is it ? Do we watch the river or are we the river?
    Trying to watch the river has lead me and others to experience dissociation, while being the river makes me feel connected to myself and everything around me.
    Apparently traditionally taught Buddhists practice vipasanna (mindfulness (Sam Harris teaches- dissociative)) alongside many other more grounding types of meditation- yoga being one example.

      This app goes WAAAY deeper than someone just telling you to breathe and it goes beyond meditation.... To call this a "meditation app" and imply that the purpose of it is merely to learn how to meditate and have nifty little tools to help you do so.... that's missing the mark and doesn't convey the true nature of it. You are probably not going to be able to find a more helpful, comprehensive, and coherently crafted resource on meditation and mindfulness than this. It seems like you think meditation is just this thing that people do to de-stress as if that's the main purpose of it. You can view it as something that shallow if you'd like, but you'd really be missing out if you did. Just give a good, honest trial run and you'll see what I mean...
      No, I do not work for Sam Harris and he isn't going to pay me a commission if I get you to try it.

I really DON'T know the true nature of it because, well, it sounds exactly the same as other meditation apps and that's the name that folks are calling it. I really do appreciate your reply though. I started reading a book called "Mindful way through depression" and just last night, IT suggested this ...ugh..... BREEEEEEEEETHING meditation stuff! SO, your comment has actually piggy-backed on that and now I'm gonna give the app a try. You probably SHOULD get a commission! Write Sam Harris and show him this comment and I'll back you up. 😘
