The truth about going from brunette, to grey!

  • Welcome back to my channel. I made this video because I have seen a lot of questions on social media about going from brunette to blonde.
    In order for me to get to my natural grey, I went blonde after I got the colour stripped out. This process in NOT for the faint hearted, and being menopausal as well, it was such a shock!
    The reason I did it, was because I was getting fed up dyeing my hair every 4 weeks, my hair was in bad condition because of it, and getting the dye off my hairline, and my ears. OMG.
    Do your research and do your homework when it comes to finding a colourist who can look after you. I am really glad I grew my hair out, but if I could go back, would I get the colour stripped out? NO!
    A cautionary tale.

    I just went for it and cut all my hair off about 20 months ago. My hair is now shoulder length and probably 30% grey. I love it. No more box dye or expensive salon visits every six weeks. No skunk line to grow out either. In my opinion it's the easiest way to do it.

    Loved your take on how gray is described: granny gray for women versus silver fox for men. You have a bright personality and your hair now matches you perfectly.

    Wow! What an amazing story and what a great storyteller you are! I almost peed my pants laughing at the “I looked like I should be on top of a pencil” comment. I’ve just started my grey journey, and I refuse to bleach it bc I don’t want to damage my hair. I’m just doing the down ‘n dirty grow-out from very dark brown. So … hats. Lots and lots of hats. ;)

    Your color & cut look great on you. I stopped coloring mine abt 8 yrs ago. I started in Dec, to hide the skunk streak w/hats. Got trims every 6 wks. In Spring, I had my stylist put in temp (fades away, no roots) lowlights, to help blend the gray. After a year, all the color had grown out, & it was well worth the wait. I get lots of complements on my "silver" hair. No regrets. ❤ from the USA (NH).

    I love your hair!!! My natural gray is the same color and I'm currently trying to get it highlighted to get it started so I can grow it out without the skunk line! LOL! Love your hair!!! I'm 52 and perimenopausal and I'm so tired of coloring my hair myself.

    I love your hair, it’s so perfect with your skin tone. It seems to all change at the same time doesn’t it? During Covid was my decision time to let it just go grey. Lots of people were cutting and colouring at home and wow was it obvious lol so I figured we’ll, if it’s going to look crazy for a while this is a great the time oh my I had blue hair at one point trying to fix the brass mess I’d made trying to get it to a very light blond, so I tried to trim it and finally just buzzed it off GONE !! Then I wore a toque, I’m Canadian (knitted hat) I love my white grey hair because my skin tone changed right along with it l( post meno-pause) When the sunshine hits it now and I occasionally catch a glimpse of myself in the Jeep rear view mirror, it’s all flowing silver, white and a wee bit of charcoal brown. It’s healthy, thick and carefree! I love it. If your thinking of embracing some freedom and you’re naturally going grey, go for it girls it’s fabulous !! ❤

    I'm a dark brunette and due to menopause it's thinning. So, I have decided to let my Grey come forth in all its glory. Lol
    I'm going to just let it come in and my last dye on my hair was 6 weeks ago . I'm letting my hair get healthy again. I'm already starting to show Grey on temples and center part. I'm going to have to deal with the skunk line but I'll live. Lol. I'm really curious to see how much grey I do have and what my grey will look like. My mom had very white shiny hair and my dad always had salt and pepper , more pepper than salt up until he passed in his 90s. So time will tell what I'm dealt.

    I have white hair but my eyebrows are still brown, which was the color of my hair before I started dyeing it. I’ve only had white hair for a couple of weeks and I can’t get use to it. I started wearing wigs, after cutting off all the dye, into a buzz cut.

      I really battled with it before I stopped dying my hair. When I went grey it was pretty straight forward. Jewel colours suit me best, as does grey, but light blue makes me look washed out. If you can find someone who specialises in doing your colours, I'd recommend it, as it will save you HOURS or time and heap of money by not buying stuff that doesn't suit you, or spark joy. x

    The extra steps, $, and damage isn't worth the grey transition. Enjoy the journey of watching the new colors come in. I naturally transitioned 4 years ago with long hair, and as a brunette. The process was like paying for bayologe, only for free.

    • @elizabethbandeen7869
      @elizabethbandeen7869  Год назад

      I literally looked like a skunk so the stylist I was seeing then suggested the bleach. Oooft! It was tough but thankfully that was about 5 years ago now and It's all natural now.

    • @julievenus3670
      @julievenus3670 Год назад

      @Elizabeth Bandeen the "skunk" type of thinking that's been programmed into women is half of the problem. If more women could just embrace the process, and enjoy each inch of our new hair, our new selves, we would stop damaging our hair, scalp, environment in the name of what 'society' THINKS about us, we wouldn't keep feeding into those pressures..sure, my dark brown, damaged hair had the 'skunk' line, but it also helped me be more confident to show the world that it didn't matter.
      Just my opinion.

But I understand what she meant bless her. Today we have younger women having their hair dyed grey because they think it looks good lol. I had my hair cut today but, I have a way to go before all the dye is out x

    My natural hair color is ash blonde, but I've been coloring it medium brown at roots and golden blonde at the ends for years. I've even colored it red at times. So it's a golden color, not ash anymore, but ash comes in at roots. Currently, I'm several months into allowing my gray to come in. I'm hiding it under hats, but I am so tired of coloring it. I think it takes about 2 years for full grow out. I don't know if I have that kind of patience. I might have my stylist pull the gray thru to help quicken the process, but am worried about the gold base and what it will look like or how to care for it. 🫣

If you look at recent videos I have made, I tried to grow my hair long in the last year but recently I have gone short again! Just keep getting regular trims, and working with your stylist to find the hairdo of your dreams. I am definitely a shortie. x

    I got fed up dying my hair because I couldn’t find a box dye that I liked, so at the age of 69 I started my grey journey, the only negative comments came from my daughter who said it made me look old, which of course I knew it would but six years later it’s steel grey not as light as I would have liked it but I’ve had a lot of compliments from complete strangers ( I think grey is fashionable at the moment)a little bit of purple shampoo now and again helps.
