Automatic watches often wear heavily in the auto wind mechanism. It makes a difference if you jog all day vs working a desk job making gentle movements all day, too. The rotors in these watches all sound OK and these are extreme spins. Just because the center bearings make noise doesn't mean they're bad.
Thanks. Just as someone else's comment pointed out, how noisy a self winding watch is, is very rarely offered in any product reviews, descriptions, etc.. So this is very appreciated. Cheers.
Those sounds are perfectly normal. There are many gears in a automatic watch and when you shake it up like that they move. An automatic watch is powered by movement so when you move your watch all those gears start turning and therefor power your watch. Its nothing to worry about :D My automatic watch makes the exact same noise (as the first one).
The video was used on a forum just to demonstrate the difference in sound level of different watches in different price ranges. I wasn't worried about them not working normally. :)
I am new to automatic watch and purchased my first recently, a Citizen Promaster ny0040 and it makes similar noises like in this video. I was so worried when I got the watch that something has come loose inside while shipping or something but it's good to know sounds like these are normal.
I just bought a Hamilton Automatic and it's great but I noticed some rattling (sounds like the 3rd watch the video, almost like faint Christmas bells) so I'm glad to see it's not something loose or damaged
hi Joseph, thank you for this video.. my watch started to sound loud recently, it was pretty silent before. just wondered if you or anyone here think it's normal..?
I'd be a little concerned if the sound changed recently. I'm assuming you mean the sound of the rotor spinning. They are just ball bearings in there. In general, finer automatic watches are supposed to be serviced and lubricated every few years.
+Joseph Kim thanks for getting back. I made the mistake to go for a bike ride, I think it got rattled too much. not sure where u take it. technically not a brand
well, with cheap chinese automatics there really isn't a reason for service. Service on a simple day-date automatic is about 200€. It would be cheaper to buy a new watch. if you want automatic for a reasonable price, buy Seiko, Orient, Tissot, Hamilton etc. Seiko and Orient even offer automatics around the 150€ mark. The movements they use last about 15 years without any service.
@@jooo270 and also at how cheap the watch is. I am asking because there is this watch that has 2 variantions (one with battery and one is kinetic) at 130 euro. I dont know lots about clocks but i dont want to risk having something that is gonna brake or not charging properly because i am not moving enough so i am going to the safe option.
@@manosm.4718 I've had many cheap and expensive automatic watches. Never really had any issues with keeping enough charge on it. Just get whatever you're comfortable with.
thank you for your video. i have inherited some watches from my late father which i am soon planning to sell on ebay. i am hesitant since i just noticed this same exact noise as shown in your video, and thought the watches were damaged (?) so this is completely normal for a watch to make this 'rattling' loose sound? any feedback much appreciated.
Rotor bearing needs replacing. (Rotor is what is spinning around when you shake the watch) Easier to just buy the rotor with the bearing fitted. Easier to fit. Sorry if it's already been mentioned. Hopefully helps someone else.

thanks, thought mine was too noisy, apparently not

Not how it works, but close enough
+Money “Moneyzuchinni” Zucchini lol thanks XD

+Joseph Kim oh... Well I hope I helped anyway XD
Thanks for the input I was actually so worried I bought the Seiko Presage SRPB41 (Blue Moon) and it was making the same noise as the first one
I bought a watch and my dumbass thought there was something wrong with it lmao
that's why we looked this up on youtube lol
Man I thought mine was a replica when I first heard this noise and went berserk on the store just to get humbled
Interesting and underrated aspect of automatic watches.

I bought exactly the same watch and thought exactly the same and came Here for exactly the same reason. I am relieved

Didn't buy a Citizen I bought a Seiko Presage SRPB41 (Blue Moon) and same
Rotor noise is definitely normal in Miyota movements like the one in your Citizen.
Same happened to me with my Orient defender 2.I was so scared.....
Dude those are nice watches
Thanks, I thought my new watch is broken 😅
This video was really helpful. Thanks for uploading.
I don't think its actually touching... just seems like that's the sound of the bearings. Not a big deal though.
Isn't the rotor touching the back panel makes sound ? Mine does in Omega seamaster planet ocean . how to fix ?
Lube

Does having a metal back help at noise reduction over glass backs?
Don't know to be honest. Probably would depends on how thick the metal back is.

@@jooo270 the other one that has the same price is a battery powered and has sapphire while being more appealing to the eye
That is not the solution, its just covering up the problem, the solution would be to check for loose rotor or to lubricate the rotor bearings.
hey, my nomos tangomat datum has this noise too , I dropped the watch on the ground before, but still on time and great condition during this period
Ho Hoho I have a Nomos ahoi, I can make a video later today so you can compare.

what is the first watch, it looks really nice
its a parnis watch. Chinese movement copy of Swiss. Works great tho. About $100 or so.
all mechanical watches has sound like this?
pretty much. It's not really that noticeable day to day unless you hold up your watch to your ear and listen for it.
Meng Leang No. They shouldn't be as loud as that. Especially the first one.
NO AWAY, YOU CANT EAR THEM LIKE THIS , UNLESS THEY ARE OLD ONES, OR SOME DAMAGE IN BEARINGS...OR LACK OF LUBE...
the automatic watches do this, the mechanical has only the ticks.
Cartier has a ticking noise same as my tissot, whats that about?
K Moto yes.. my tissot is recently making ticking sound.
Techno music

any feedback much appreciated.
AbstractMan23 yea totally normal.
wow ok - thanks for the reassurance!
Wow. Your gonna sell your fathers watches??... That he gave you.. What a worthless son you are.. Disgusting... Grade A shit bag..
AbstractMan23 You’re gonna sell the watches that your father passed onto you when he died? What a dickhead
My Tank F made the same noise. Kinda dry sound

Nothing needs replacing these noises are perfectly normal.
The parnis sounds like it has a seagull movement, it's just unbearable, I have 2 parnis watches, I love them, but damn those are noisy as hell
Probably the Miyota 8 series. It only winds one way and spins for ever
this is why you get smart watch
I would recommend get a quartz watch instead
