      I can't agree with you more. The more you see it, the more you notice new things. When I saw the film for the first time, I didn't understand how Noriko survived a situation where she probably shouldn't. But I noticed the THING on her neck the second time I saw it, which chilled my spine and made me love the film more.

    We had the same reaction after watching Godzilla Minus One. This wasn't a movie, but an actual experience. We saw it in 4DX (highly recommend it) which made you feel like you were on the boat with those men. I went with my brother who is barely a Godzilla Fan. We both agreed this was one of the best films we've seen in our lifetimes.

      That’s amazing. I would have loved to make this my first movie in 4DX, but unfortunately we don’t have one where I live. Oh well, IMAX was insanely epic as well.
      Minus One has been amazing, because it’s one that you watch as a Godzilla fan and wonder that it can’t be just because you like the ol Goji that you thought this was one of the best films in recent years.
      And then you go online and see so many other people, Godzilla fan or not, saying it’s one of the best films in recent years.
      So it’s just an incredible film.

This film is definitely in the top 5 best monster movies of all time, and should be in any conversation about the best of all time. I saw it the first time November 29th in IMAX and OMG, the sound was so epic! I would compare his roar to being at a military airshow, when an aircraft goes into full afterburner and it's so loud, you feel it resonating in your chest. Saw it the 2nd time in 4DX, and didn't like it so much. Now there are no IMAX showings within less than an hour drive, so I guess I'm going to see it in standard one more time while it's in theaters. It's truly one of the best movies of any genre that we've seen in many years, and I'm so happy to see the Big G return to his mercilessly evil, destructive self.

    I concur with your analysis and ranking. While the original Gojira is impressive, it falls short in character development, particularly in giving adequate screen time to characters like Dr. Daisuke Serizawa, whose struggles needed more exploration. Godzilla Minus One takes a streamlined approach, concentrating on a single, well-fleshed-out protagonist, resulting in a more endearing and powerful narrative.

    I’ve read that many folks have shed a tear or two by the end of this film. The time that I felt a lump in my throat was when the child suddenly started crying. I have to wonder how the director got that child to cry on cue like that. It wasn’t a fake cry, it was heart wrenching.

      I cried on multiple occasions. I’m the type that cries at anything “horror of war” related, so I knew this movie was gonna be an experience in that area.
      Aside from literal chills whenever the music would swell and the acting and destruction would intensify, I can say that many tears were shed.
      I wondered the same thing about the child crying. Akiko crying about her mom also reminded me of that scene in the original 54 film after Godzilla ravages Tokyo.
      What gets me everytime is Shikishima’s reaction in Ginza, just the utter shock and disbelief turned into anger and sorrow, the yelling, the music, the fear, the black rain. My goodness, one of the best moments in the movie.

The scene was toned down in the Americanized version, the mother’s death was not so apparent. It's really hard for me to not put Godzilla Minus One as my favorite as I feel I would re-watch it more than any of the other Godzilla movies. It's really hard to give it the top spot because without Godzilla 54 there would be no other Godzilla movies, without Godzilla 84 there would be no Heisei era which for me was peak Godzilalla. I thought Shin Godzilla was the best modern update for Godzilla set in the at that time present day. The depiction of military weapons in this movie is surprisingly consistent with historical facts. This has been fact-checked by some military enthusiasts in Japan as well.
      At that time, some German aircraft were equipped with ejection seats. In the movie, there is a scene where a mechanic installs a seat with German markings.
      Furthermore, the Shin-Den, also portrayed in the film, was a real prototype designed for a hit-and-run style takedown of B-29s, making it Japan's only heavily armed aircraft. It was never deployed in actual combat, but it would have been perfect against Godzilla.
      Additionally, the scene at the beginning of the movie where the Zero-Sen lands, showing its wheels opening one after the other due to weak hydraulics, is a distinctive feature of the Zero-Sen.
      Also, the warships destroyed by Godzilla in the movie were all either seized or scuttled by the victorious nations after the war. However, the Japanese warships "Yukikaze" and "Ushio," which survived post-war, also survived the battles with Godzilla in the film.
      Director Yamazaki is well-known in Japan for making films about war.

    I've only watched all the American ones, but I'm already prepared to love the Japanese ones mostly a bit more. Especially cause I even hated the '98 one as a kid and I kinda hate the fact it was my first experience with this great monster like it probably was for so many others. And that movie is truly not a good way to hook you to watch more. I'm glad that Gareth Edwards awakened that appreciation for me with his movie. Feel about the same in every detail with each of the Monsterverse Movies. Lately I've been surprised seeing Godzilla vs Kong up higher in many lists than King of the Monsters, sometimes I even see people placing it in a better spot than the 2014 Reboot. I would put it as my top Godzilla film. However, I wouldn't say it was 2023’s best picture, the best VFX, etc., like some have. It's a good film. ‘The Creator’ still tops 2023 for me.

    I agree I like it better than Shin and in some ways I like the as much as the original 54 Godzilla. I agree with what people are saying that it would be great movie even if there was no Godzilla. I like the Godzilla movies where even when the big G isn't on screen he still pushes the movie forward . and I also agree with those saying it is the best film of 2023

      It was truly an experience. Easily one of, if not the best movie of the year.
      It’ll be difficult for toho to follow it up, especially if they want their new connected Godzilla universe to come from Minus One.

    Godzilla finally has even footing with his colleague Kong whose 1933 film(35 cent ticket, took time with no TV & Internet) put him INSIDE our soul. Minus one is the Godzilla more than a monster movie soul saving turn we need today as King Kong was needed back then ❤. Think about what happen after WWII, we rebuilt it instead of enslave it as the United States could have. Minus one is to prevent WWIII esp. internationally(quicker with TV and Internet) because with Nukes there will be nothing to rebuild 🎉 ? -poigg

    Personally, I think shin had the best Godzilla, but fell short in other ways. The movie lost so much momentum every time it cut to board rooms of people talking. They made Godzilla truly horrifying (an achievement that cannot be understated), and I am in no way saying that a Godzilla movie needs constant action (minus one had an incredibly engrossing story), I just never felt myself caring much for the human characters.

    I am conflicted. Is gmo the best movie “ever”, or have modern movies been so bad recently that anything not half bad seems like a masterpiece? Wondering what you think. I have a biased opinion so I can’t tell.

    • @ShinGlassman054
      @ShinGlassman054  5 месяцев назад

      I wouldn’t say Godzilla Minus One is the best movie ever. But I also wouldn’t say any one movie is the best movie ever. I mean really, when you pile together a list of the best films of all time, it’s all subjective and you can’t really say what makes something like Schindler’s List better as a movie than the Godfather part 2, other than personal preference at that point. Godzilla Minus One is a fantastic movie and somewhere in my top 100 movies of all time easily. But that could very well be a mind boggling statement to someone else.
      Do modern movies suck? I mean no. A lot of the mainstream movies have been pretty mediocre to bad lately. But a lot of people mostly just watch the mainstream movies (which isn’t a dis or me saying I’m better, watch what you want. Like what you want). so say 80% of the movies they watched in 2023 were mainstream and maybe sucked. So to them it feels like 80% of movies sucked that year. There’s still phenomenal pieces of film being made, and sometimes they breach the mainstream barrier, but sometimes they remain unnoticed.

    Be honest.. You wanted more awesome Godzilla at the end, and all they gave you was standing in the water Godzilla, roaring, and flailing arms .. am I right? That is my big criticism of the movie - it looks like they ran out on money or time .. or just didn't want to put much effort into the big Godzilla takedown scene at the end. That sequence at the end was ... weak as hell. I had fun watching Godzilla Minus One, but it ultimately falls short of being a GREAT movie.

      I thought the ending was incredible. The final moments were some of the most tense in the movie. I loved Godzilla rising from the depths and roaring in pain on the surface, reminded me of the ending of the original. Very well made.

    Would you want this godzilla to fight another monster?

    • @ShinGlassman054
      @ShinGlassman054  8 месяцев назад +1

      I’m not sure. I worry that it may be to much of a jump in tone from Minus One, but maybe if it is something like the heisei era where Godzilla is still the same mean Godzilla, but just happens to fight other monsters for reasons not connected to protecting the earth. Maybe keeping this Godzilla as the villain and introducing a Mothra plot would work, but who knows. Maybe it’d feel like a stretch compared to the more serious and grounded first movie.
      But honestly, I have faith that not matter what direction they decide to take the sequels in, they’ll be able to make it work.
      I guess we will just have to wait and see.
      What are your thoughts?
