The boat scene where Godzilla is chasing them has to be one of the most terrifying Godzilla moments ever. He was a menace.

The way it merged into the battle with the cruiser and Godzilla obliterates the cruiser after a full blown slug out. When Godzilla surfaced after that I remember just praying he forgot about the smaller boat/wouldn’t go back to finish the job
That black rain scene got tears in my eyes man, I haven't felt genuine emotion watching a movie like that in a while

For me the part when Tachibana told Koichi he has a ejection sit on his plane had me in tears. That part got me bcuz I really thought Tachibana wanted koichi to sacrifice himself.

Director Takashi Yamazaki himself said in an interview that the team in charge of VFX for Godzilla was unable to complete the video production in time due to a lack of manpower, so he himself studied CG and bought a high-spec computer to produce the film.
Dude is a legend.
Hollywood studios will suck his dick for him to direct one of their shitty blockbuster movies.
I hope he keeps sane with all the harassment and temptations and focus on his vision of what cinema is.
You never see anything like this when it comes to big studios handling strict deadlines for visual effects.

Well Godzilla has regenerative capabilities, and if she got infected with Godzilla's blood, she might have been brought back to life with regenerative capabilities, due to being infected.

The message of the film was really great, the main characters valuing life instead of throwing it away and saying that this was the justified war that they really should be fighting was really honorable. The scientist even said that Japan treated life too cheaply during the war and that they should be proud of having no casualties instead of sacrifices. Really great.

I just watched this movie last yesterday in 4DX and my god, this has to be THE best Godzilla movie ever! Without spoiling anything, there was one particular scene where the movie goes completely silent. And the silence in the theater that coincides with this brief scene was proof how invested everyone was in this movie. Never have I been more proud of a Godzilla movie!!
Those scenes were freaking intense saw it in dx to and the sound was so great in this film everything sounded big
4DX is the wrap around panoramic screen right? How is that? I've never seen a movie in 4DX, but I'd think it would be annoying and you'd miss a lot of the movie.

It's crazy that a franchise that shouldn't be able to work beyond one or two films due to such a simple premise is still going strong to this day.
The franchise wouldn’t be what it is without the subtext and metaphor for Japanese history. It’s super cool because it can be as simple or elaborate as the creator and audience allows it to.
it works if you understand the slasher horror and the reason for them.
godzilla was the embodiment of anxiety trauma pain from the nuke and ww2 like we love horror movies, japan created godzilla as a coping mechanism. and eventually godzilla was turned into a hero defending japan.

Cuz it evolves with the times. Godzilla went from a nuclear allegory to a sentai superhero, and now its a movie about deprogramming from japanese nationalism and learning to value life.
It only grows because the Japanese know how to do a proper Godzilla.
One thing I like is how it focused on the fire bombing of Tokyo as that's an event that gets overshadowed in the history books by the nuclear bombs, but was actually more costly in lives for Japan.

Tokyo simply could not withstand another hit. When a few former military guys said, "we bear the brunt again!" and walked off screen they did not reappear near the end smiling. I felt for them, families gone, residential districts of Tokyo were mostly wood and paper. I lived through H/cane Andrew in 92. Neighborhoods and streets not recognizable. I was amazed that in that ruin that Shikishima found his home. However he was looking for his parents and you would find it. Great film.
The death toll from the massacre of civilians in Tokyo was about 120,000, mostly children and women, 30% of whom were between the ages of 0 and 20. First, the city was bombed in a large circle, and blocking the evacuation routes of civilians. Next, the circle was bombed in a grid pattern, then bombs were dropped to fill the grid in order to kill every last person.

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years. First Tokyo is made up of a bunch of smaller cities but Ginza is absolutely what you would consider downtown Tokyo. I have to say the attention to detail and historical accuracy of this film was astounding. The Wako building in central ginza (the one with the clock tower) after the war was one of the only buildings still standing. Since the U.S. was occupying Japan they actually used that building a the Post Exchange for U.S. troops. For maybe 2 one second action scenes you can see “Tokyo PX” on the wako building. A detail literally no one will ever notice but that’s the amount of care they put into this film.

The separate shots of people-monsters are too frequent, the script is a catastrophe and the interpretation too expressive of these Japanese men who look like some pampered little girls when it should have been a masculine attitude made me waste my time unnecessarily. how stupid can you be to appreciate such a film, I ask.
This film did the impossible. More of this please. We gotta give the Japanese their flowers and crown because this shit slaps. And seeing that atomic breath just wreck everything adjacent to it and end in the most beautiful rendition of a nuclear blast I’ve ever seen, was just icing on the cake. And we not even gonna talk about the human element because that was some Oscar worthy shit. 10/10.

The reason why the movie is so good is cause it strips away all the bullshit to go back to the terrifying roots of Godzilla. This gives us the heart and soul of the original film. It breaks away from the goofy yet badass monster fights and the loveable/anti hero to give you the real Godzilla, a terrifying force of nature mankind created though its atrocities. This is our modern day reimagining of Godzilla 1954. Its a new class in legacy cinema that's its own modern day masterpiece. I can guarantee this is going to be taught in film schools later on down the road like Godzilla 1954.
I will always love the goofy scifi monster fights. They are my bread and butter when it comes to kaiju films, especially Godzilla and I will always want more of that. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a movie that takes the King of Kaiju's back to his roots, where he was an allegory for nuclear devastation, death and destruction. I love the original Godzilla movie and would recommend it to anyone, but this would be a great replacement for that if you can't get ahold of the original.

@@zacharybartolo5111 that’s exactly how I feel, i still love every film, hell I can even find the fun in zilla 98. But this is without a doubt our generations revamp of 1954 and reintroduces the world to what Godzilla really was and is. I said this to a family member and I’ll say it for the world. If Godzilla had never existed in the first place, this film would be the birth of the series in modern day.
They also took away the Human Superheroes from previous Godzillas which makes the show better.
Why was it so good…because I never felt like I was watching a Godzilla movie. I was watching a heart filled, post WWII movie and how they recovered. And then this creature is bring destruction and death upon Japan and I want the people of Japan to rise up and Kill this thing. First time EVER I was on mankind’s side in a Godzilla movie and I was brought to tears several times, never had that in a Godzilla movie

Yeah with Shin there was zero heart, nothing to tug at you and make you care but with this family brought together by devastation I did and I can't say the same for Godzilla 2014 either (loved that movie but the family? Eh...)

@@zacharyrichardson770 never man, the human element has always been None existent, I’ve never cared much about the “Human” stories. They never gave me any reason to. The stories were so generic and it was just show us the monsters. I forgot Godzilla was even in this movie at times while I only hoped the main cast could find happiness.

It is a perfect Godzilla movie. I love how scary and threatening he is in this because you want every last character to live. A very Japanese story but completely universal in its themes much like the great Kurosawa's movies. This movie deserves to be huge.

I saw this in the morning and I was blown away. This movie is amazing. It's easily the best Godzilla move to date. This is the version that future Godzilla movies will be compared to. I normally dislike the human element because it's always a terrible story. With Godzilla King of the Monsters, etc I didn't give a damn about anyone and just wanted to watch a bunch of monsters fight and destroy cities. It's similar to Transformers movies where I don't care about the people and just want to watch robots fighting. But this movie...wow. They did such a great job with the characters because it made them feel real. This version of PTSD felt so legit. Shikishima had massive survivor's guilt to the point where he couldn't even settle down and start a family because of how bad he felt. I actually cared about him. And Noriko. And the boat guys. Everyone had great chemistry and it just fit together. Nothing felt forced or scripted. This was all about people who have all lost something and there's so much misplaced blame as a country tries to rebuild and suddenly a giant lizard monster comes out of the ocean. I absolutely love this movie and everyone should go support this in theaters.

This movie was incredible. The themes, the setting, the tension, it was all excellent. Bringing it back to the 40’s was genius. I can’t believe we have this, the Monarch show, and Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire right around the corner! This will go down in history as one of the best years in Goji history.

The director and writer of this movie, is also the VFX director. He was literally part of the team working on some of the visual elements at some points of production. Amazing work through and through.

I am absolutely astounded by the budgetary efficiency of this movie.
This $15 Million movie looked much better than so many of the $200+ Million blockbusters that have come out in the last 5 years

This movie... didn't seem to have any reshoots I think. Reshoots tank a movie's budget. All of the dialogue honestly seemed relevant. They did a good job.

Saw it this morning with my wife who is Japanese. She loved it, my son and myself loved it. She cried at the end of the movie, so that tells you how emotional this movie is. Guarantee you now, this movie will get nominated for an Oscar and will probably win. The wife also said this movie is doing really good in Japan. best selling movie there. With out giving away a spoiler, at the end, did anyone else notice the mark on the girls neck???

Yes! It's a fragment of Godzilla, as was mentioned in the news sequence immediately following her 'death' that scientists where in the area to collect and study. It's also WHY she survived... just like, and thanks to, Godzilla.

I’ve been a Godzilla fan since I was 6 years old. Godzilla 2000 was on TV and I immediately fell in love. Giant dinosaur/lizard with laser breath fighting other giant monsters ? As a kid that was the greatest thing. But now that I am older I have a much bigger appreciation for the themes and metaphors of Godzilla. No longer is he just a cool monster who always seems to get back up and keep fighting, he is an unstoppable personification of nature and also war; and its ability to destroy anything in its path without remorse or thought because it doesn’t care about your life. It doesn’t care that you’ve lost everyone and everything and you were just about to find something new in life to care about. That’s why I think this movie really did it for me. I felt Shisikima’s(probably spelled wrong) trauma. He was just about to accept his losses and embrace his new life and Godzilla comes in and says “No sir”. This movie was incredible and I really hope it can destroy the GARBAGE that Hollywood has become. “Cinema is dead” they say. No, Cinema is not dead, however it is being smothered by Hollywood and its lack of understanding of its audience and what people go to the cinema for. If I want to watch some shitty action movie I’ll watch it at home on a streaming service because I’ve already seen that movie dozens of times now. But Godzilla, a franchise with 37 entries, is still able to be a 10/10 movie, because of the ability of actors and writing and emotional performances to be able to move you into feeling emotions. This is is the reason people go to the theaters. If Godzilla ends up being the idea that destroys modern Hollywood, I think that would be probably one of the greatest things I will witness in my lifetime. Long LIVE THE KING.
I took my date to this movie because I was going to see it by myself but she wanted to come knew nothing and I mean nothing of godzilla lol she was stressed and worried the whole movie. Literally she enjoyed this movie so much she wants to see the others and do some research because she wants to see what led up before this and how either good or bad the other films are. Hell after I dropped her off home she messaged telling me she's watching a ww2 documentary. Like this movie grabbed her. It's an amazing legendary film and if Toho makes another The director definitely needs to stay on

They spent an ungodly amount of money on the dummy of Zod's corpse. They could have just hired some actor and pasted Michael Shannon's face over it with CG, or deepfake, for MUCH cheaper.
Some people say this movie had no agenda, but I felt it had the following message: You should live for the people who need you instead of dying for honor.
Surprised the guys didnt mention the hospital scene, did anyone else notice how they zoomed in on Noriko's neck & you can see what looks like a black scale? How exactly did she survive the Godzilla attack on Ginza? ive been seeing theories that some of Godzilla's cells fused with her & that's how she was able to survive being blown back by the mushroom cloud, i believe they even mentioned collecting his scales/cells after the Ginza attack

I dragged my girlfriend to the IMAX with me today, and although she was reluctant to see a monster movie, she was drawn in by the storyline and plot. As amazing as the actual Godzilla scenes are the human themes were much more powerful.
Godzilla is the embodiment of war, Atomic War. And the entire movie is an allegory of that. The harder they fought Godzilla the larger and more powerful he became. While Godzilla might’ve been killable on Oda Island by the plane (unlikely, but we like to convince ourselves that one well placed bullet can prevent a war) he was unstoppable after the Atomic bombing of the bikini atoll. To the average person war is a monster that arises from nowhere (the sea for Japan), and it’s horrible and monstrous.
It was amazing seeing how fleshed out the human experience was written. Themes like PTSD, Survivors guilt, the youthful eagerness to run into battle, finding love during war, suic!de, how all wars begin with lies and secrets by the government, and finding purpose and meaning through love and family. We even see themes about the medical side effects of war like cancer from Atomic bombings. Noriko’s mark on her neck is basically cancer (Hiroshima and Nagasaki).
Yes ! It’s why I love this movie . Because it has a ducking message that drive the movie. The entire movie is about why and how war is bad , and that it can be stopped by the common folk even when governments can’t . It’s just so much fucking fun but it having an honest to god message is why I love it
I really really hope this isn’t Yamazakis only entry in the franchise, he very clearly has one of the deepest understandings of the universe that any director has had since the original. Annos take in Shin Godzilla was incredible but it’s different it’s a unique take on it. This is peak “typical” Godzilla.
I hope the sequel bait actually goes somewhere. Toho said they wanted to start another ongoing Godzilla universe, this should be the one.
He made a short Godzilla opening for his film Always Sunset 2, so he has some experience with Godzilla. But this is his first feature film, but I suspect not his last.
Shin Godzilla was great in displaying how terrifying Godzilla was and could be while Godzilla Minus One is a journey beginning to end. Both are great entry.

The black rain was the point where I said "Godzillas gotta' die". I was so worried about sweet Noriko. Sae, the tiny actress got me really emotional. I connected with the characters. No WOKE, no preaching one way or another. Just a solid film and yes, the best film of 2023. I have the Lymphoma with the worst prognosis. Went from Cancer Center to the theatre at a 1245 early showing. This movie took me out of that cancer headspace that is ever present and let me be concerned about the characters.
I hope you get better friend. Life can be so unfair. I'm glad in the depths of despair you were reminded of the beauty and depth that also exists in this world.
There was definitely a political message here, but it wasn't ham fisted and preachy. It criticized both America and Japan's actions in WW2. Much like the original classic, Gojira stood in for America and the nukes. The criticism of Japan comes in with the Kamikaze pilot and the conversation about the government of the time not valuing the lives of it's citizens.
Most of the movies and shows I've watched recently have been foreign, it's the only way to get away from the woke nonsense that's taken over everything. The only Hollywood film I saw this year was Oppenheimer because it was woke free and a darn good movie, same with Godzilla! I saw them both multiple times because voting with our wallet is the best way to fight for good movies to come back. Anyway, get better posterboy.

I wanted to watch this movie after watching the first half of the review.. but there was no imax so i was just gonna watch it on stream. But today i saw that my local AMC actually had imax showings so i took the first chance to watch it.. now im back here and understanding completely why this IS the best movie of 2023.. this one by far brought me to tears out of any other films i've seen recently. It was god dam amazing.. Gonna be watching it again on IMAX tomorrow as well with another set of friends :D PLEASE SHOW THE SUPPORT THIS FILM DESERVES!!!!

i teared up, my wife was outright crying, she's very sensitive about fathers getting deployed from her childhood, and the tucking his daughter in before he left was hard for her.

Actually caring about the characters in a monster movie was mind blowing for me. Genuinely loved this movie. Legendary Picture's Godzilla movies are great for the monster v monster aspect but that's all, i find myself simply waiting for the next time the monsters are on screen and the human element feels like a chore to wait through. Minus One was different, I cared about Shikishima and his struggles. I loved the interactions between him, Doc, Kid and Captain. He didn't feel like a blank vehicle taking me to the next monster scene and it was gripping to watch him overcome his "monster" in both the figurative and literal sense.
I watched this movie and finally understood how my grandfather felt watching the original. He got me into Godzilla and the monster movie genre sharing those old vhs tapes with me. This movie holds a special place with me. I felt like a lil kid again watching this movie alongside my grandfather.

I think this is one of the best Godzillas EVER. At one point Joe said he wasn't sure how this film is doing in Japan - I was in Tokyo only a few days before this movie came out over there, and the hype was high! Posters and ads were everywhere, so it's doing very well. Thank God! I'll buy this when it comes out too, it was that good.

The only thing I hate about watching Japanese movies in theatre is that I have to hold my tears so hard.
I think one thing you guys missed was in the hospital Noriko had a black vain that was growing on her neck when Koichi was as crying on her lap. Maybe that’s the reason she survived, radiation poisoning or some sort of mutation.
It wasn’t very obvious. I saw it, but I couldn’t tell what it was at first. I thought it was her hair, but then I realized it was a vein.
There's no way she survived that blast naturally. That city block was essentially leveled beside the one building he was behind. Godzilla was also completely dead before his literal meat started regenerating. I think she came back to life from being exposed to the same radiation.
You guys didn't mention Noriko's spreading black neck veins. That means shes probably going to have a connection to Godzilla from exposure and surviving what ever compunds are in his atomic breath.
If they do a sequel shes likely going to sense him every time he gets close to shore. That reaction right there was probably in response to Godzilla regenerating over there under the sea.
That or shes f#|{¡ng dying of Godzilla cancer...
Personally I don’t think it’s going to amount to anything more than a way to say this is how Godzilla continues to evolve and survive with the passage of time. The reason I think that is because at the end of Shin Godzilla, it showed something similar in a sense too. So it’s a nice Easter egg of sorts to end the movie although I’ll be quite happy if/when I’m proven wrong.

I agree with everyone...And IF they make a sequel, expect almost everyone died allready that was in this film, its 20 yrs. later, and Akiko and Ryuuko ( her dad, now dying) learn Godzilla is returning. The Gov't denies everything so as NOT to have US get involved & drop another bomb. Akiko meets the son of that Weapons specialist, they build Jet Jaguar to fight Godzilla, etc.
That’s the problem with Hollywood nowadays. You don’t need to throw away massive amounts of money to make a movie, you need talent and effort.

Oppenheimer and Godzilla Minus One would make a great double feature since the Atomic Bomb was the reason Godzilla was created by the Japanese.
This is one of the best movies I have experienced. I am not a crier but I could not stop crying during this film . I have never been a Godzilla movie fan so this took me totally off guard. What jumps out is the truth to the original intention that I believe drives the story and is a true reflection of the post WW2 Japanese experience and reality.
I will be surprised if it is even considered for any awards because of its budget. Hollywood and the film industry in general is about big budgets drive the bus. Honoring the craft is secondary. This film honors the art of filmmaking and reminded me of why movie theaters are still relevant. Incredible.

After watching this movie, I went back and watched Legendary's King of the Monsters, because it was the only film to actually use the classic Godzilla themes in the movie. And the human story in that was actually pretty okay, that is if Millie Bobby Brown's character didn't exist. Her character just brought the entire story down for no reason except to create drama. The story between the wife and husband was good enough for that movie.
Yeah, I think King of Monsters was really good.
Not perfect.
But the human characters generally had understandable motivations, they were pretty far from the worst characters in recent movies.
And the monster fights were great.
I don't think it should get any shit, it's a great Godzilla movie.
Can't say I felt the same about Vs. Kong... Still not the worst movie I've seen recently, but the human side of it was just so forgettable.
I actually like the human side of King of the Monsters, it's also cool to see them fly away from Rodan and stuff
KotM was dogshit in my book. The entire plot was ripped out of an episode of the 98 cartoon and the characters were trash. The action was pretty bad too, but the worst part was, the movie was fucking boring. It's hands down one of the worst Godzilla movies ever made. Shit, it might be worse than vs SpaceGodzilla and that was the worst.
I love King of the Monsters, so much so I purchased a physical copy. And when Minus One comes out on DVD, I'm buying that too.
I really hope Minus One gets a 4K release, but you never know with Toho. Hopefully we don't get an insult like teh Shin Ultraman BD.

Saw the film today with my wife and my dad, all three of us loved it. We all grew up loving Godzilla movies and without a doubt this was the best film in the franchise.
The Ginza attack scene is my favorite Godzilla attack scene in any Godzilla movie. So much emotion and buildup. Simply awesome!
I just got out of the theatre for this one with my brothers. All three of us are raving. We went into the movie expecting a pretty standard “dumb action movie” and we’re just down to see some mindless action and watch Godzilla wreck shit.
We were not expecting the masterpiece we got. The actors killed it, the writing, storytelling, character arcs, score, cinematography, emotional moments…holy shit. This is probably the best Godzilla movie of all time in my opinion.

Saw this Saturday afternoon. Was expecting this to be a “good” Godzilla movie. Wasn’t expecting it to be the single BEST Godzilla movie of all time, as well as the best movie of 2023, easily!
Also (from a sonic perspective), this rivals (and bests) Oppenheimer for the loudest, most THUNDEROUS BASS I’ve ever heard in a theatrical presentation of any movie (and I’ll throw in Top Gun: Maverick in there, too)!! Cannot wait to buy this on 4K UHD disc!!!!

Seeing an early imdb rating of 8.4 I was quite skeptical, but being myself a huge fan of Japanese culture (mostly anime), I knew that this is the movie where I'd regret my whole life If I didn't go to the cinema… And well.
Hearing Godzilla roar on cinema speakers and seeing its havoc on the big screen was absolutely insane! The battleship fights felt like next-level destruction hype, straight out of anime-type stuff but realistic at the same time.
The 1940s setting made Godzilla look a lot more real overall since the things didn't look so futuristic, which compensated for the monster itself.
10/10, hands down!
Those tanks were really about to get produced back then, but the war ended before it was made into production. Just like the Shinden. They were called ,四式 meaning,type 4tanks. The director says in his latest interview, that this movie was about people who’s war has not ended. So , in contrast to that he wanted to use actual war machines that were not able to participate in war back then to end their war this time.
The fact that you could tell the ships apart blew me away. Wish the destoryer captain was Tameichi Hara.

In short, I'm speechless!! This movie is superb!! It's not just a great Godzilla movie, it's a great movie, period! Run, don't walk, to your nearest IMAX and see this movie the way it deserves to be seen! If you don't have an IMAX near you, my condolences! Minus One is now the standard bearer by which all Godzilla movies will be judged! The highest compliment I can give it is that its the "Jaws" of Godzilla movies!

The movie truly captures what Godzilla is; the son of the atomic bomb. Beautifully and eerily depicted on screen. Just the way how even Godzilla looks up at the mushroom cloud was almost like a child being admired by the parent. Also triple points for Godzilla 2014’s comic con teaser had Oppenheimer’s famous quote, while this year a movie about Oppenheimer comes out and the year finishes with Godzilla. As Lucas would say “it’s like poetry, it rhymes.” Haha.
Which is interesting how some Godzilla variations are born from the H bomb. Others the atomic bomb.

The first Pacific Rim movie really made me want more monster movies that actually focus on the fights and the monsters, I really enjoyed Pacific Rim.
So I was a bit let down by the 2014 Godzilla, which didn't really have much for monster fights.
King of Monsters gave me a lot more of what I wanted, and while the people weren't exactly strong characters, I could kind of get behind their motivations, so I really enjoyed it, most of all the recent Godzillas.
Minus One is very much a movie about the people. I wasn't sure how I would feel about this. I can definitely think of some of the older Godzilla movies that were like this, so it's not like I didn't expect it could work, just that recent examples suggested it wouldn't.
Sometimes its great to be wrong.
This is a movie about survivors guilt, ptsd, failure of duty, and the human effort to push past tragedy.
It's a monster movie that doesn't forget that what makes monsters scarier than gore is how much we can relate to the humans facing it.
I am glad I watched it in IMAX.
This movie was a masterclass in what PTSD is like.
Actually relevant characters to a movie help out so much. One of the few times I cared about the entire named cast of a movie.
I watched it in 4dx and it was amazing.
What really stuck with me is that I found myself going "If something happens to (person), I'm rioting." I genuinely got emotionally invested in these characters and it blows my mind.
Plus the heat ray was AMAZING to experience in theaters.
After that atomic blast scene, I was so upset (internally) that I felt that shouting on a 2/5 level. It left a stinging pain that had me rooting for the human characters.
I never would have expected to me emotionally moved by a Godzilla movie.
I was struck by how many likable characters there were in this film. American films these days, you have your main lead and everyone around them is kinduv a jerk because *gag* “only one main hero.”
But this film, Every. Character. Is. An absolute. Hero. Every character could be the main star of the next film, they’re that good. Even characters who didn’t show up until the final act had a moment where I thought, “my god, I was bracing myself not to like you but now I really want you to survive.” That feeling was constant throughout.
We haven’t gotten this kind of filmmaking since the 90’s.
As much as I love what the Monterverse is doing over here in the states and the crazy action sequences between Kaiju, Godzilla Minus One absolutely BLOWS those movies out of the water.
From Godzilla himself being a horrifying force of nature that we haven’t seen since I feel, Shin Godzilla, to the human characters that were so engaging and made me emotional that the Monsterverse is lacking in, Minus One is just…..Beauty cloaked in a horrific veil of smoke.

This is hands down one of the best Godzilla movies. It's getting a lot of comparison to 1954 but I see it has a lot of similarities with the Godzilla of "GMK" . That Godzilla was also an asshole smashing buildings for no reason and in one scene he sees a bunch of people running away from him in a parking lot so he blasts them and it forms a mushroom cloud aswell.
Plus the way he dies is somewhat visually similar

i get why people are comparing it to 1954, but yeah, this movie is clearly closer to a "GMK without the extra monsters" godzilla than a 1954, despite its' status as a reboot. odds are a lot of people are new to the franchise, or just haven't seen GMK as opposed to the OG 54 movie.

Just a little clarification, the 15 million dollar budget was a speculation, the actual budget was stated to be much lower according to Toho themselves
A thing that really surprised me besides how great the human characters were, is the fact that we finally got a scientific plan to battle a monster that didn't seem like it was a total joke. With the technology they had available it made a ton of sense and should have worked if he wasn't a little smarter than they gave him credit for being.
Hats off to the director for coming up with such a logical and well-thought-out plan.

This movie was just a journey to watch from beginning to end with me getting extremely emotional near the end. With characters that feel real and you care for, and the sense of scale the shots that put into how large Godzilla is was amazing.
When the movie ended the audience and myself included were applauding and for me it felt like such a love letter written from a Godzilla fan.
I hope we can dive into this universe and see more, bring back Anguirus and see what a kaiju fight would look in this world.

I was actually in tears/mouth slightly agape during the atomic breath scene. And it wasn't typical tears of joy like a fanboy, it was emotionally impactful during the entire scene. It hit different.
This movie is so damn good. Went to go see it with my older brother and his family. My 12 year old nephew gave it an 9.5 and me and my brother gave it a 10/10. I will try to go see it 2 more times because im a huge Godzilla fan and i also want to support the film. Specially since our screening only had like 30 people at the most. Hopefully this film does well and they can give us another one.

I was going in with "Ok Godzilla let's do this" and came out just "GODZILLA WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUHHHH...Wooooooo!!!" emotional, pumped, scared, just rollercoaster of everything and so satisfied. I haven't felt this way with a movie in such a long long time, that I really can't recall when a movie did that to me. Maybe when I was a kid or some shit. Saw this two days ago, incredible. I loved how they handled the throwbacks in their own way and it has a touching human story. I was genuinely terrified seeing Godzilla, too. Probably the best in the franchise so far.
I have never left a comment on RUclips until now, for years I just look at comments and watch videos. This movie compelled me to leave this comment. It was everything a movie could possibly hope to be. Amazing. Acting: immaculate. Godzilla was a true terror. 10/10. For 15 million dollars to make I don’t even know how this movie is possible. A true classic movie that will be loved forever.

I just got back from seeing it and all I can say is WOW! It was so good that I was completely blown away by it. Such a good story about overcoming survivor's guilt, finding something to fight for, and learning to forgive yourself. Very well done especially for a movie with only 15 million for a budget. Absolutely destroys pretty much every Hollywood film aside from Oppenheimer this year. 10/10 movie and everyone needs to see this film. I can't stress that enough!
This movie reminds me of District 9. Low budget yet had me invested from the very start. Absolutely loved it. No big names and no heavy CGI that takes up the whole screen. Made me feel like a kid watching that movie. Maybe its bc both films are/were not Hollywood films.
That was the one main aspect that stuck out: they did humans right. The atomic breath was awesome, Godzillas look is the best he’s looked and overall the movie is worth watching on IMAX. Best movie this year

Around the 43:00 mark, the fact that Joe took the time to look up the name of the character says everything you need to know about this movie. He actually cared about the characters and everything else in this film to take the time to look up their names and history.
Huge kudos to the cast and crew of GM1. Saw it last night (typing this on 7 Dec) with my Godzilla loving son and we were mesmerized. Ryunosuke Kamiki's portrayal as the guilt ridden Koichi Shikishima was excellent, Minami Hamabe's Noriko was radiant, and the charisma of Hidetaka Yoshioka's Kenji Noda was off the charts. The movie was an absolute triumph and I am THRILLED Toho got an extension in North America for more people to see this amazing, as Martin Scorsese would say, piece of CINEMA. Off the charts good.
America may have beat Japan in the war but Japan with its visuals, storytelling, and better writing has won American hearts
Japan certainly has its problems, but for sure anime, videogames, and numerous other things definitely give Japan some fans.

The whole using the sea pressure against Godzilla was a pretty creative way try to kill Godzilla given how limited options they had and how ineffective their weapons were. Also that healing factor is insane, Godzilla probably had it to some extent back before it got nuked. That scene where it was chasing the boat was terrifying. Fantastic movie.
it was a cleaver way to show regular people including a balloon company not relying on the gov. the movie is really anti gov(japan is having their own issues with their gov lately) and a very david vs goliath feel. those are always the best fights. completely unbalanced so u have to use brains

I loved the film. I think it was really interesting to hear something modern from japan critiquing their actions in ww2 as well.. From dishonoring your family, the nature of even giving up your life as a kamikaze pilot, and the japanese government at the time and push back. This film and the DnD movie are definitely my favorites for this year
This is an actual, really well developed film. It has great characters with a great story and I was sooooo invested in their plight it was a hard movie to not get emotional watching. It's a 9.5 on a ten scale. Easily the best movie this year, and the most terrifying Godzilla of all time.
I live in Tokyo and saw it when it premiered in November. The film has done strong and there are some theaters showing the subtitled version for those wanting it with English. This movie goes Godzilla right unlike those Legendary ones.
Can't wait to see it in theater. The only thing that piss me off is that in France, the film will only be in theater for 2 days on specific cinemas. Which is a shame because it will not have the success it deserve 😭😭😭

Hey Joe ! The tanks that appeared in the movie are actually the Type 4 medium tank ''Chi-To''. The model they selected was a planned production variant which is most likely never reached mass-production in real life.
If you search for Chi-To, Google will show you the prototype version which is better known. The 3 small fake barrels actually contain recoil mechanism. Many people are confused it with the Type 3 Chi-Nu which is understandable because Chi-Nu is mass-produced tank so it is better know to most people and it looks similar to Chi-To, but yes the tank that appeared in the movie is historical accurate according to the real design at least.
IT WAS ABSOFREEKINLUTELY AMAZING!! I am a HUGE Godzilla fan, have been since birth as both my Dad and Uncle are as well. This movie had me fighting the onion ninja's and failing, cheering with the entire theater, on the edge of my seat (that boat scene was fantastic!!!), and in absolute AWE of how lethal/angry/apocalyptic they actually made him! Watched it at a prescreening this Wednesday, and am going to see it with my fiancé and sister at IMAX tomorrow! Cant wait to see it on the giant screen and watch it again!! This might be IMO top three Godzilla movie of all time for me!!!
