    The Garden Gate Restaurant is known as The Goof!

    • @GrandFallsLady
      @GrandFallsLady Год назад

      known as the 'Goof' because of the old signage part, that says 'GOOD FOOD', the light went out on the 'D' in Good and 'OOD' in Food, and it read GOOF when lit up at night :) Four generations of my family have been going there. It's a most respected Legendary Landmark in the Beach! It might even be the oldest standing restaurant on Queen Street East.

    Is this Toronto in the middle of January?! Where is the snow?? I'm in Ottawa and the city is full of snow! We're expecting it will hit -18 with the windchill tonight. I should move to Toronto

    That "Big Pool", is called "The Olympic"!!! Come on, Johnny!!

    • @GrandFallsLady
      @GrandFallsLady Год назад

      Yup known as The 'Olympic's' by locals, listed name is Donald Dean Summerville Olympic Pools. There are 3 pools ups there :) a huge 2 feet deep for the kids, a 4ft to 8ft deep pool with three lanes on one side for slow, med, and fast swimmers, and leisure on the other side. Then the last gated pool for the 3-5 & 10 meter diving. I have only ever seen 3 people dive off the 10 meter landing in all my 1/2 century + years :)

    It's been 30 years since cycling in Toronto so it was a great trip through memory lane. When I visit now a friend takes me on walks to assorted neighbourhoods. The last three walks we did were to a small Ukranian neighbourhood, Thorncliff and on Yonge in the Iranian area. When you got onto Eastern avenue I think you were near the old Hell's Angels bunk house.

    Hey Johnny, what are gloves you using for the ride?

    Love the new camera angle but yes a little lower(maybe 3 inches or so) so we can see the speed and less of the sky would be great. I'd like to compare it to my ebike. My ebike speedometer is a couple of kms/h fast. Ie it will say 34 but you're going 32. I grew up in the beaches, another nice ride is riding out to McClean ave which is the start of the board walk using the Martin goodman trail to leslie, south to Leslie along tommy tompson park to the end of the spit, then back and along the trail until carlaw, up carlaw along Dundas and downtown bound. I usually travel Mortimer to main st and down main st to get to the beaches. Way less traffic and you can go full speed and get there in a hurry. We used to call the Garden gate restaurant "The goof" because the letters were burnt out except ones that spelt "goof". There is also a nice little greasy spoon at the top of my old street on monroe pk at queen. You also turned right on another street I lived on Silverbirch Ave. Lol. The fences are for snow and ice so it doesn't come off the lake and onto the boardwalk, they go up every winter. In bad winters, with big storms from the south. You'll see ice and snow piled almost to the top of the fence. We've been lucky this year so far. I usually like to ride late at night through the martin goodman trail and I put my assist level at 3 which is 25km/h and pop it on cruise control which is slow enough that some late night cyclists pass me. The good thing at night is the trail is basically empty so there is no chance of hitting anyone especially with my 1800 lumen front light. They will always see you coming. That snack bar I believe is still run by the government. They've been selling snacks for like 50 years. It's open because of the skating rink next to it. Hell when I was growing up that bike path used to be gravel and there were a bunch of head shops on queen st and the whole neighborhood was very working class. They've fixed it up quite a bit.
    I just noticed something. That movin' seems to have a little bit better stepping on the PAS levels. My 1 is about 16 Km/h, 2 is 19km/h 3 is 25 km/h 4 is 30km/hr and 5 is 37 km/h with a full battery(I have an unlocked display from China I wired on there. Don't tell mom. It seems the movin is a little more prescise with steps at 5 km/h on the nose. Is it a 500w motor as well? It's too bad more of the display didn't get into the shot it's good to compare. I'm really glad you sped up on the streets, we must really go as fast as possible so we don't get blown off the road. Don't worry we can see the video just fine. I know you had it on 4 put it to 5. I've almost been wiped out by cars many times going slow. Your safety is paramount.
