My favorite quote was "the path forward is about curiosity, generosity, and connection. These are the three foundations of art." It also helped to think about who my audience is and that it is not for everyone.

    • @Beshladilawal
      @Beshladilawal 4 года назад +1

Yes curiousity about what could happne of I start. Many atones that we have outlined a blog and be surprised what our thoughts produce as we write. Thays curiosity. Again its about the ruckis we can create in the world and the feedbacks we could get. Or maybe the work will make the world a better place.
But theen its generosity to give our time and attention and energy wrapped up in our work that will give the world. Even if we bill for it, its not the money that bring iut the art, its just that we are genrous.
Connection as the third part is the most important part. It is thr main reasin we write, speak, shoot or paint but if comes at last. And when it comes , if brings magic,lo e and life.
      Thus art = curiousity+ generosity+ connections

“Show up and do the work, regardless of how we are feeling and the what is happening in the world around us.” Needed to hear that along with “half of what you produce is going to be less than average”💕

    • @Beshladilawal

Most times, we dont know that our art and work is te most important tjing in life. Politics, pandemic, family and unnecessary entertainment take pre edence over our work.
It is cery important to see this creatuve work as the most important most enduring work.
Later in the talk, Seth talks about short term disappointment is the best of generosity. It is never an act of insensitivity to disregard politics and all other instant mass media frenzy and do the work.
      Thank you for this insight.

I was supposed to hear this today. Had an epic fail for my art that I was submitting for a juried show. Supplies showed up a week late and damaged, could not transfer my vision to reality and the deadline was firm. I am going back in to see if I can re-work the art. That’s what a professional does. Thank you! 🙏👍💕

When you turn it into a habit you will have the discipline to get things done. Imagine that you are an employee, does someone care if you feel okay or not? Nope. You will have to show up on your work place otherwise you will be fired. Why are you willing to "sacrifice" yourself for someone else but not yourself?

"We can define who we are by what we do"
"Morning pages - it's about the practice"

I think this put a lot of what I'm afraid of into respective. Most of the thing you guys said in this video is not exactly new but to heard such big figure talking about the same experience as mine and how they overcome it really helps.
    My biggest takeaway is:
Just start. Think about your audience and just start. Don't be afraid of the first draft or how it won't turn out perfectly, force yourself into doing it and finish it the best you can.

And also the part of humanity is best. This was my first video to see on your channel. But I am sure as hell that, it won't be last......... Sometimes I think where the hell was I till now that, I didn't find your channel. And the things that you guys about creating, it's goldmine or creators believe, he gave me the reason not motivation for a period of time, but a reason and a purpose and by saying that you will succeed by practice it is unbelievable, I mean I think this is gonna make my life🙏 And again Thank You.

Especially when you're in the first chapters with your business and you cannot see big results it is easy to fall into a state of 'I really don't feel like it' today...tomorrow...and the next day. Thank you so much for sharing this, Marie. I’m a florist who (by your wisdom and guidance) just went out on my own last month. FYI, I’m a single woman with two teenage daughters so its all on me financially. Anyway, my biggest take away from this was the portion discussing writers block. I struggle with designing block. When my flowers arrive I’m excited and happy and feel most inspired. Then when the day of execution arrives, I’m sick with panic, terrified and threaten myself with quitting and running away. Literally… this is my life, haha. It’s so comforting and reassuring to listen to amazing people (such as yourselves) express the same issue(s). Anyhow, thank you. My words I say to myself every time I experience this often debilitating feeling is to “just do the next thing.” :) And to be honest it does work for me.

I’m working on my book -“Headbangers-A Musical Recovery of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury” and much was written on my early journey of recovery but I have not been sitting daily to look back at what I wrote so this was a GREAT reminder to just DO 🖊📖each day..even if it’s not exactly what will be in print. It also reminded me of “WHO” I’m writing it for & to help those who need it. ❤️🎶🙏

Wow. I've never heard of Seth Godin. I started a blog a while ago and then stopped abruptly. I guess I don't trust myself fully to keep going, even when I want to. My biggest take away is to really think about who your work is for and what is it for. I was simply blogging about my insights, but I realize it was really to help other women who might feel alone in my same situation? Or, maybe I was just selfishly blogging to let my voice be heard without any real direction. I think it's the latter. But, I'm happy to think more about my journey as a potential writer.

Just by watching this interview a few times and engaging helps me realize how impatient I am. Lol. 😆 I feel that way because I've done basically morning pages in diaries most of my life. From age 8 - age 28, I filled over 35 books by getting up 1/2 hour early every day to write and taking a diary to bed for 1/2 hour before sleeping. There were lots of other times and styles I wrote with over that schooling frame, but that practice was - I realized after taking Poetry workshops with folks like Eleni Sikelianos at Naropa Univ. (Or Cole Swensom at DU) - had been almost a spiritual check-in with my soul, a meditation, at least, a ritual. Some folks need their coffee or a morning bowl. Some folks need a sexy pen.
Most of those are drivel but I have 2 baskets of "books I wrote" that prove to myself I am a writer before it ever "became official". I'd never show that to anyone but I've used passages or themes from it to help guide a lot of my work now. It represents over million very rough drafts of incomplete copy, and over 10,000 cumulative hours of dedication in the simplest way. Of course some days I had to rush so could only do 10 minutes and other days I hyper focused for 2 hours if the schedule allowed, but I could generally consistently get 1/2 hour of reliable work that way and it was a solid start.
When I stopped doing it, my life actually veered or was veering off course. Those were also lessons I needed to learn.
Now trying to get back to that track and make up for a decade of focusing on other priorities. Eager doesn't do the feeling justice.
    Thank you. Thank you!
To all the folks who feel bookstores and libraries are their churches: check out the San Francisco MOMA if you ever get a chance. It's an elevating art experience that may enrich your ideas of work.
May more success slap you all silly! Goosebumps for the feedback points made here.
