I love when they guys glance over at each other while they're playing and just geek. Aside from being totally in love with each other (lol), it shows how much they enjoy playing, and playing together.
I just recently discovered this band and I am blown away but something weird has happened. I quit playing music a few years ago. I mean I would still strum around every now and then but I wasn't serious and didn't progress. I sold most of me gear. Well after discovering these guys I plan on picking up a new bass and guitar next week. Its weird having this drive again. Normally bands like this discourage me from playing. I used to think "i can never be that good" its weird how its changed.
I discovered them in 2019 and the same happened: i bought a guitar again after almost a decade of no playing and to this day i play on a daily basis lol
Is anyone going to comment on the fact that Scottie played Aaron Marshalls solo in Sweet Tea almost FLAWLESSLY?!? He played almost as good as the creator that's pretty dang insane if you ask me
Am I the only one here to ENJOY their music? Most technical playing around, and you're complaining about small timing errors. Good Lord people they're essentially playing guitar solos for 20 minutes. Imagine if singers today were stripped of their autotune. If anything, they've proven that they are CAPABLE of playing their songs live.
+Josh Tate I saw them live this evening. The lead guitarist made at least one mistake each song, which isn't anything alarming considering, like you said, they're shredding during every song they play. I think they're all extremely talented, but their music doesn't translate to anything that is moderately enjoyable.
Josh Tate shrug. its technical i guess. but if you watch bands like between the buried and me, the contortionist, periphery, intervals, animals as leaders, chon, scale the summit and etc, youll see that they play their live shit flawlessly, and definitely come off less pretentious. and i find that all of those bands have more technical or maybe mature material. but i like polyphia too, i just wish they would i guess polish (?) their sound and tighten up a bit when their live. and im basing this off that ive seen all of these bands live multiple times
i agree but everybody forgets this is still a really young band give them a few more years they will be way at a higher level then the rest of those bands
+Marianne Ramolete Nice! I discovered their EP Inspire when it came out and been a fan since. Congrats on the gig with Orianthi! You must be a good player to get a chance to jam with her. ☺ I'm a PRS player/fan myself, pls. check my vid if you get the chance. You should upload your playing too. 😉
I always liked rock/fusion/progressive guitar instrumental albuns. When I listened to muse for the second/third time i digged it so hard, it was so guitar like but also so different from what´s out there, for me it´s like a bunch of fantastic melodies one after the other on your face all the time, with some great solos in between.
REALLY wish I could hear the bass. I know this is obviously a lead guitar-oriented band but the gritty, slappy bass tone they have in their recordings is ESSENTIAL to their sound.
a note from polyphia's journey " Everthing you want doesnt come to you for free what ever you do you need to earn it " - simply no pain no gain. Polyphia is the goat and deserves A.M.A and grammys polyphia's journey is so ( unexplainable ) being a local texas band going around throwing banners and asking people to buy their tickets so people would come and watch them play, grinding so hard for a whole decade (probably more than that). their effort to make this happen and make themselves who they are is so immense that we cant even imagine. If any polyphia members and reading this i wanna say " i love your music so much that its made a huge impact in my life, all the hard work, sweat and dedication you've put on polyphia, everything you've earned the respect the fame you guys have earned it and flaunt its as much as you guys want and each one of your personality is so amazing tim, clay x 2 , scott their such amazing human beings. I love your music allot more than i can say "
I know this is an old comment and you will probably never see this, but that's a great synopsis of the Polyphia story. It is also exactly how I see it. There's a bit of irony here too. These guys are practically the architects of the way to be a successful Indy artist in the new music industry. Yet they stated off doing things the old school way and with some success before proceeding on the path they are on now, but never embracing the old industry. Its one of the strangest and most unlikely stories. Its almost fairy tale level unlikely. Yet they did it. A lot of Inspiration with trainloads worth of hard work and dedication. No Record companies, No Radio air play, No TV spots. It defies credulity. So proud of these guys and glad that they made it. Most amazing music I have heard in my entire life and a bunch of nice guys by all accounts.
It's funny, because while I think that Tim is more flashy, and I for sure love his solos, but I tend to like Scott's solos a little bit more because of his feel mixed with his technique.
I play this band all the time at work. Im a salesman and i have alot of harmom/kardon, jbl speakers and this sound helps sell sooo many. Ur mixing on the albums os great and helps show off the power behind some of them. U guys r soo good it's unreal
I dug this whole video! Its cool to see your favorite band produce a mini documentary and shed some insight on how they operate. These guys deserve every bit of hype they get and more! I can't wait to see what these dudes bring in the future! Been a fan since Inspire, keep killing it!
never heard them speak before, they seem like really humble talented guys. love their music and their mentality, great stuff. whoever mixed this session is a fucking scrub tho.
Aaron Mercer maybe, personally I usually find bass and drums are too loud especailly in live senarios. it's easier for the guitars to hide behind the kick and boomy room. this is a guitar based band in terms of those are the melodies at the front of the sound. Im glad you can hear all articulation. plus you dont know what the room sounded like. it may well have been too boomy in sound check.
These guys are so good, perfect performance >To all the people talking about the'' slightly off tempo thing'', i think it's not their fault, it's not natural AT ALL to play like that. I'm sure at 99% it's a mistake that have been made during the recording/mixing process.
I wasn't a fan of Sweet Tea, but 87 was rad and it was cool to have the interviews mixed in with the songs. I enjoyed hearing the inspiration behind the songs and about their hard hard work. The music industry is a tough business, and these guys are obviously busting their butts in order to share their music with the world. Great job, fellas!
Great job guys! Super inspiring to me personally. I'm a musician as well and though I'm not nearly to that level I hope to get there someday through hard work like you. The thing that I loved the most was that you could just feel the emotion and the passion in the music. It's incredible how you were able to capture that without any vocals or lyrics of any kind. Maybe I'm just tired but it nearly brought me to tears a couple times. Haha!
You guys are awesome. Ace of Spades, Sacramento, september 2016. Got to meet all of yas, and talk a little, especially to Clay.... cause bass playing and stuff, ya know.
The way I got my buddy into these guys was saying, "It's kind of like if the music from Sonic the Hedgehog was metal". It makes so much sense that they took inspiration from radio stuff. I swear the first time I heard the opening riff to Sweet Tea I was like, "Is that the chorus from Fancy? The fucking Iggy Azalea song?" It's just really cool seeing these guys evolve. I can't wait for their next album.
I think I enjoy their music so much because they finally break the barrier between rock and rap. Every song sounds like a rap duo with a hot background track. Theres always a part in between verse that they have a pass-the-baton sort of section.
That or Clay’s bass, they eq’d the crap out of his typical snarl which is a huge part of their overall sound/: They’re own studio master mixes are far better than whoever did this Dunlop session... still dope to see them play this iconic set live tho 👌🏼

Just got back from their show last night. Can say that, at this point at least, they are super clean. They went on before Chon so by comparison they were definitely less clean, but really not by much. Great guys too, got to talk to Clay for a while, and a bit with Tim and Scott.
Super late to the party.......I made a wrong turn at Alpha Centauri. Anyway Tim was classically trained. One of the things the band was known for in the early days was adapting/interpreting classical pieces.
I liked a lot Inspire's sound, when i first heard it, i was like: "wow, i can't believe this kind of music exists", and i like the way they think about they making their sound different from the over-repetitive metal/djent/pgrogressive-stuff bands out there, an original sound, but i think they've pushed too far to that pop sound. Inspire EP had that strenght, that power, that melody, armony. It really inspired me, but no, I didn't thought: "oh, i want to play or sound like these guys". These guys speak truth. It's all about grinding on your shit and going all-in for your shit to make any of it work. Mad respect to these guys.
I'm amazed at how they can remember all these riffs and execute them so well.
