  • Local production of eggs in Singapore grew 12% last year, as compared to the year before. About 685 million eggs were produced. The Singapore Food Agency said this is because a few farms have improved their production processes, following upgrading works. On the flip side, seafood production fell by about 8% last year, compared to 2022. Similarly, production of fresh and chilled vegetables dipped by about 15%. Singapore continues to import over 90% of its food from abroad. It targets to locally produce 30% of its food by 2030.

While it's good to be food independent, it's kind of useless if local food is more expensive than imported food. I hope this will change in the future but with our government going deeper and deeper into debt, I seriously doubt it.

Local produce too expensive majority people said they won't buy so next time all these eggs production and vegetables production sites also have to give way to build hdb flats.

It is certainly cheap for those on a million-dollar salary. But then again, millionaires would hardly be eating out at hawker centres on a daily basis - unlike the rest of us. The assumption is Singaporeans are rich

Desmond Lee also came out with out of touch comments about Singaporeans accepting high-price BTO flats in mature estates.
Given a choice, Singaporeans would gladly bargain down the price. Is that allowed?

The irony is that the harder they try, the more apparent it is that they have become out of touch with realities on the ground.
Can the Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat still be considered a golden nest egg?

why not? The value is still appreciating. In fact it gets more and more expensive with no sign of falling.

If the flat declines in value with age, potentially plummeting to zero value, it becomes a constant source of worry.

Easy. Don't buy. Just rent. Save yourself the worries and anxieties. If you cannot take the stress of owning a property, stay out of it.
