    People don't realize how awesomely they can convert an older suburban too. My 98 Suburban didn't have the third row seat when I bought it. No big deal since I'm a grandma whose grands all drive and I don't need to haul a bunch of people around. Without that third row seating I can fit a queen sized mattress in the back. I have capacity for 2 batteries which means that if I had a camper I could use the Suburban as a literal generator to power a camper. I have inverters built in in the back so that I can plug in anything from a microwave-laptop-air conditioner-television-etc. I have multiple lighter type plug ins in the front of the vehicle so that I can charge multiple USB type devices. I can make an open air shower with the 2 back doors. I have plenty of storage space for food-cooking appliances-etc in the area of the second row seating. Plus the front passenger seat. It wouldnt be hard to set up a small camper potty in the second row seating area. Wouldn't be hard to set up curtains for privacy when parked or camping. A folding catd table would make an awesome mini open air kitchen.

    It still amazes me how quick an empty van can turn into a living space!!! It always feels so nice to begin a trip with a clean vehicle! Do you hire out your services??? LOL - I just finished doing the same to The Wanda. I can sense such a difference in her. She's actually more spunky!😁 Wish I could take her through a carwash! They won't allow the roof top box. And no way I'm taking that thing off! Great job, Heather!

      Yeah, I was thinking same thing. A lot of vanners pull their bed out so U can sleep forward. I have had 3 Rvs and now I am converting a Ford 250. This was a happy van conversion. She put a lot of love into her mini build. For my bed, I went with 3 inch foam with 2 inch latex for cooling. My bed is comfortable, but could have gone another inch on foam. Great and Happy build, girl.

    Hi Heather. The bed positioned how it is isn't too short for you?? I asked because I misjudged the length of my bed last time when I went camping when I was packing things and couldn't even stretch out. Lol. It was very uncomfortable and I'm only 5'4". So short. Definitely a lesson learned. Lol. Happy July 4th!!

    • @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
      @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures  Год назад +2

      I'm 5'2", and the space is technically too short for me. I think I have around 53-54" of actual space from wall to wall where the bench is if I remember correctly, but since I'm raised up above the bench with the extra layers, I'm able to utilize the extra few inches in the wells under each window, so it allows me to stretch out comfortably into a semi reclined position (sort of like if you were in a hammock) when I don't want to sleep on my side

    Excellent video. I am very interested in how you've done your bed here ...do you have a video focussed on how you did this bed that I can view? About to buy a DGC this weekend and will need a place to sleep straight off. I am 5'4" at most; your heights ?? Thank you. Really appreciate any help you can offer - I am a 77 yr old woman just starting out with van living. 2 yrs ago I travelled BC to Ontario in a Hyundai Sante Fe -- loved the trip but not squished sleeping space (sandwiched in with no headroom) and no place to sit except driver's seat. LOL
    Hence my plan to sell my lovely SUV and replace it with a DGC Van. 🥰

      I do have a video devoted to how I make my bed out of my 3rd row bench seat! It's definitely a game changer if you're comfortable sleeping that way b/c it opens a ton of space. The other option I use in my DGC sometimes is to put a cot lengthwise, which creates a ton of storage underneath, but sacrifices a lot of the open space. (I'm 5'2" and am super comfortable widthwise - I think it's doable for 5'4" but probably not much taller than that)
      Here's the bed video!

      @@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures Thanks a bunch for your quick response ... I'm going to watch that 3rd row bench seat video right now and give it a try right off the top with my new-to-me DGC. Looking today at a 2015, 2016, and a 2010. All about the same price; around $12,000 Cdn (that's roughly $8,000 USD-as the 2010 has only 93,000 KMs; as does the 2016; 2015 has 105,000 KMs. The 2010 also has a lot of paint blistering on edges of the hood.
      So exciting!

    How did you build the bed? Did you keep the 3rd row seat up? Or fold it into the stow and go position - under the floor, then add a bed frame? Are you having to place the bed over the wheel area? I find that I am too tall to stretch out in the 3rd row seat in any way.

    • @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
      @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures  9 месяцев назад

      I kept the 3rd row in, but built it up & leveled it with foam, blankets, and bedding so that I was able to utilize the wells under the windows for extra space. I have a video from a couple months ago that shows me making it! (I'd link it, but RUclips has started limits that function to prevent spam links)

    • @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
      @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures  4 месяца назад

      It's not the greatest! I wanna say it ends up being around 26mpg on the highway, but most of my miles are done in traffic or slow moving wildlife drives for short distances with longer runtime, so my average mpg alltogether ends up being more like 18mpg factoring those in as well.

    • @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
      @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures  4 месяца назад

      Not terrible for a minivan though. I do get around 400 miles before needing to fill up when I'm on the road.... but I'm really hoping for a hybrid for my next vehicle when the time eventually comes!

      No, in this layout, this is the full bed. The seat area is only around 52" but I get extra space between the wells under each window to extend that so I'm able to stretch out more. I'm only 5'2" though, so it definitely helps that I'm short

    • @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures
      @HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures  Год назад +1

      Thanks! I'm 5'2", and technically the space is too short for me. I think I have around 53-54" of actual space from wall to wall where the bench is if I remember correctly (I haven't actually measured it for a long time) but since I'm raised up above the bench with the layers/foam, I'm able to utilize the extra few inches in the wells under each window, so it allows me to stretch out comfortably into a semi reclined position (sort of like if you were in a hammock) when I don't want to sleep on my side. I did a video on it last year, but I'm planning on filming a better one soon! It's very low tech lol, but it's been working well for me!
