Mine is my aunt and yesterday we had a massive barney over my drum kit and cajon now she trying to get me thrown out nothing to do with drums she wants my flat for her mate 😂 not a chance 😂🥁🤔🖕
I'm actually a bassist, but my church already had a great bass player. I got a Cajon for my birthday and played it that same weekend at church. I played drums in Jr. High so I had a slight foundation already, but your videos have been a huge help. I've gotten many compliments at church that it was the missing piece to our music ministry.
Just got my cajon this Christmas! I did a church Christmas gig with some friends and played the cajon and liked it so much my folks bought me one. I think my favorite part about it so far is just how relaxing it is to play it. I'm a college music student and my primary instrument is euphonium so this is just different and there's no pressure and it gives me other opportunities to play. Thanks for the videos Ross they're very helpful!
Hey Ross! Since you asked I'm here to give my story, short though it be. A mere few weeks ago, the choir director at my church (I also sing) asked me out of the blue to try out the cajon and see if I could figure out some good beats to go along with a few of the song our ensemble would be doing. So he gives me a cajon and with only a few days of practice, along with some help from your groove guide and my pianist father, I put something together that the director said was, given I'd only had a few days' practice, fantastic. Judging by the applause, the surprised congregation (who'd had no indication this would be happening) thought so too. (and you know, this is a really good instrument for me, since sitting on something and beating a tune on it is something I would already sometimes do with the washing machine at home, haha) I've done a few songs and will likely be doing more, and I'm glad to have your youtube lessons to help me out. So thanks Ross!
I just made my first cajon. It is a great way to meet people. I built mine without any power tools in the park. Now I am learning to play it in the park too.
I found your channel a few months ago, and it really got me into playing! I've played whenever I could find a cajon, and I got my very own and first cajon for christmas this year! you are a huge inspiration to me, thank you :D
I usually play the bongos in a reggaeband, but this Cajon, man.. this cajon. all the sounds I got in my head, I might aswell take it to bed tonight because I wont be playing with myself for a while. Thanks for the tips, I'll be bringing it outside tomorrow, and yeah, get to know the neighbours.
I never played the Cajón before last weekend. My church music leader asked to do an unplugged set so I figured bongos. She said she had a Cajón and that I could give a try. I found your channel, ran through a crash course and went for it Sunday morning. Thank you
Hi Ross. I just got my first cajon the day you posted this video, actually! I was looking up "cajon tutorials" and came across your Hip Hop Beat lesson. I loved the beat, and got it down easily. I want to thank you for uploading videos for beginners and naming other people to look at to learn from. I'm going to have to learn on my own when I get back to college (which is the original reason why I got my cajon. My whole floor jams a lot in our free time.) and your videos are going to help a lot!!
Just discovered your lessons, not sure why you didn't come up in my search before. Thank you so much for your insight and angle on playing the instrument.
Just bought my first cajon, it's being shipped to me rn! Your videos are helping me so much! You're such an inspiration and I can tell that music is a part of you. Great job man!
Just barely bought my first cajon a couple weeks ago. I've wanted a cajon for years, because I play guitar and I figured I could do a one-man band kind of thing. But this video really helped expand my view of what potential I could experience. Thanks so much!
The first thing I did with my cajon was take it out into the woods, near a river and play along to some music. It was great fun. Some people hiking kind of looked at me weird. But it's my first day playing one, so I haven't quite got the hang of it :)
Fantastic Ross!! You know, it is impressive the way that a simple cajon has to change lifes, it is better when you find people that feel the same as you with the same instrument! please don't stop uploading videos with your experience, solos, techniques and grooves... they are always so helpful for all the world and even more for some other countries which don't have this instrument included on its music at all, but it's appearing, increasing and taking part in the music industry!! happy new year Ross greeting from Ecuador.
I just bought my cajon this week and your videos make me feel so good with it quickly ! your ideas are always interesting and buildt a lot the technic and personality. so well done for your success and continue
Just got my first canon for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Loving the videos and been working through the beginner ones so far. Really enjoying it. A bit conscious of the neighbours, so probably not getting the full sound out of it yet.. The suggestion of taking outside is a good one..
Hi... Sir, I got my Cajon as my birthday gift ...and no doubt it is one of the best instruments but, while delivery its strings got loose. So when I play after every sound I get a vibrating sound of strings. I searched on RUclips but, didn't found any appropriate video. I observed that you respond to almost every comment so I thought to post my problem. I can't go to any shop because of this lockdown and quarantine. After all, I just wanted to thank you because I got this on 15 January 2020 and I learnt this magical instrument from you...Just can't express...Thank you soooo much Love from India Stay inside Stay safe wish you a healthy and prosperous life
Haha...well talking about my first day with my Cajon... I was fighting with everyone because no one knew this instrument and everyone said that my Cajon doesn't sound well or is not good looking... My day flew off fighting... Not just my Cajon I love and respect each and every instrument...
Hey there and congratulations on the new cajon. Sorry it’s been a rough start! A quick idea I have is to get some foam and some masking tape. Reach inside the cajon to find the string that’s loose, pull it a bit tighter and then stick your foam on it to keep it in place and to stop it over rattling. There’s probably another way to properly tighten up the string but since I don’t know your cajon, this is what I would do. My cajon comes with some foam inside it and I’m often fiddling with it to get the vibration limited to just the right amount. Good luck!
@@rosslmccallum Thank you so much for taking the time and solving the trouble to help me... Your fans are increasing rapidly...and it's awesome... I wish you achieve success at every point of your life... And Thank you again for your positive vibes and amazing content available on your channel...
@@rosslmccallum Hey Ross! Hope you are doing good... You are providing Amazing content, interesting beats and much more...Thank you for that... I practice each exercise 10 mins and each beat 5-10 mins on a daily basis and now the sound of my Cajon has really improved...actually my playing has improved... And I wanted to ask is it necessary to stick all your fingers and then hit??? Because some people have a hand constitution like when they try to stick their pinky finger the hand gets a curve which sometimes spoils the sound of the Cajon (in my case) Thank you again with lots of love...
MUSIC MINDED I’m good thanks! How are you? So good to hear you’re improving! Whatever gets the best sound is what normally go with (as long as it’s pretty comfortable). I’ve seen lots of players use different amounts of their hand and still sound good. But yes I agree with you that a non-cupped hand sounds best.
hi if only had my Cajon for 4 weeks now I love playing this I'm trying hard and my 1st thing I loved about my Cajon was the sound is amazing I will not give up trying to play this I so love it thank u. x
I just got my first cajon, a mini, for Christmas and I have no idea how to play it. I'm learning to play guitar right now as well, but I've always wanted to learn to play percussion and a cajon seemed like a perfect fit for me. I can't wait to begin learning and playing. So thank you for all of the advise!
Nice one, Rossi. I have my Cajon a year now and I have done by now all 8 things you suggest but I wish somebody had told me just when I got it; the affair with the cajon would have evolved a lot faster.
This is my first day with my firt cajon and these tips are really great :) Big Thanks !! Also thanks for sharing with us your favorite channels ;) I have played almost 2 hours :))) Sorry my neighboors :D
I was really into percussion since young age. I had been playing beats on the table while studying and listening to music. Percussion really got me more connected to music. Just a few months back I saw your channel on RUclips and was really fascinated by this instrument. I was skeptical at fist but then I made up my mind that I'll buy a cajon. It's a brilliant instrument and has a lot of merits. I am really into your channel and it's going to be my inspiration to become a better cajon player. I'd like to ask you basically two things related to the cajon. First would be the snare adjustment. I got this cajon called Kadence Heartbeat and I'm really not sure on when to adjust the snare and when not to. The other question is regarding the playing. I had a really long session of jamming with my friends the very first day I got the cajon and my hands were really sour. I used tape on my fingers to continue playing the cajon and avoid the pain but it still wasn't helpful in the long run. I'd like your suggestion in this matter in order to reduce this sourness and continue playing in long jamming session. Keep inspiring! Respect.

hello i am your new subscriber , thank you for your tips i have new ordinary cajon box and this is my first time to use a cajon . i hope i would learn this instrument like yours. i play right now but it sucks .. :(
I realize this comment is a year old but if anyone else is wondering, the difference is in how much snare you get in the high vs low tones. The high tones of a string cajon are quite clear, whereas the bass has more snare sound. A snare cajon is the opposite and what I prefer personally because it goes better with the type of music I play. The high notes have more snare sound and the bass tones are more clear. Also, most (good) cajons have adjustabe snares, whether they are strings or not. Try some out at your local music store and see what you prefer! The difference should be quite noticable.
I'm considering trading my concert ukulele for a cajon at the music store, but the last time I got a percussion instrument I stopped playing pretty quickly. I'm scared that'll happen again.
Hi, all my friends that can play cajon well because they had learn other instruments such as guitar, drums and so on. So, as a newbies, can I master it?
Great video. I got a cajon for my birthday 2 days ago, I've been practicing a lot and my fingers hurt now. is that normal or am I hitting it wrong? (I think it is primarily from the 'ghost notes')
Happy birthday and congrats on the new cajon! When I’ve hurt my hands (many times) it’s been because of hitting too hard. But you’re just starting so having a break for a day or two and then starting again could help rest your hands.
I currently play drums, but am looking for something to take on camping trips to jam with my acoustic guitar playing buddies. Found the cajon and it looks like something I could have a lot of fun with. Don't have a lot of money to spend, but looking for a cajon with a snappy snare drum. What would you recommend? I was looking at some of the mini versions, but I feel like it'd be uncomfortable since I am 6'4"
Great going thanks for sharing your thoughts feelings playing and. Teaching techniques for beginners.... Great playing sound This is kirti Shah From Mumbai India +919322530495
Always start out just doing as much practice and creative exploration you can, if you later have a relationship with a brand that’s cool but it still has to be in service of your original mission to play music!

Is it normal for a cajon to have a dents and scars on the backsides?
Fun stuff man! Can you tell the difference between a string cajon and a snare cajon? Does it really matter?
I realize this comment is a year old but if anyone else is wondering, the difference is in how much snare you get in the high vs low tones. The high tones of a string cajon are quite clear, whereas the bass has more snare sound. A snare cajon is the opposite and what I prefer personally because it goes better with the type of music I play. The high notes have more snare sound and the bass tones are more clear. Also, most (good) cajons have adjustabe snares, whether they are strings or not. Try some out at your local music store and see what you prefer! The difference should be quite noticable.
Cajon like a friend... exchanged it
What's the price of a professional sela cajon???

I'm considering trading my concert ukulele for a cajon at the music store, but the last time I got a percussion instrument I stopped playing pretty quickly. I'm scared that'll happen again.

So, as a newbies, can I master it?
Can you play a cajon like you would play a drum set?
Great video. I got a cajon for my birthday 2 days ago, I've been practicing a lot and my fingers hurt now. is that normal or am I hitting it wrong? (I think it is primarily from the 'ghost notes')
Happy birthday and congrats on the new cajon! When I’ve hurt my hands (many times) it’s been because of hitting too hard. But you’re just starting so having a break for a day or two and then starting again could help rest your hands.
I actually love the instrument but i never had one , I've made up my mind im buying one 😆

Bass guitar backing music you mean?
I currently play drums, but am looking for something to take on camping trips to jam with my acoustic guitar playing buddies. Found the cajon and it looks like something I could have a lot of fun with. Don't have a lot of money to spend, but looking for a cajon with a snappy snare drum. What would you recommend? I was looking at some of the mini versions, but I feel like it'd be uncomfortable since I am 6'4"
Cool thanks for the response!!

Always start out just doing as much practice and creative exploration you can, if you later have a relationship with a brand that’s cool but it still has to be in service of your original mission to play music!
