I loved the version of the summer side of life, he personally sang to me back stage , i knew him for over 50 yesrs since the age of 11, he was the greatest
So awesome! I say this all the time but I wish I could’ve seen him back in the 70s/80s. But I’m happy to have seen him four times over the last few years
Love his music for 55 years. Attended 50+ concerts here in Toronto. I doubt we will ever see another like him - brilliant musician and lyricist. Always had a super tight band as well ... all great musicians.
10° & Gettin'Colder... Been in love with Gordon since high school in Milwaukee-doing homework & "If You Could Read My Mind" played on the 📻 radio... mesmerizing! Burst into tears afterward:, SO beautiful! Saw him downtown at the historic Pabst Theatre, Summerfest Lakefront & the Performing Arts Center... moved to Canada 🇨🇦💔 when he was air-lifted to Hospital 🏥 😮😢🫣 Thank God he made it through all that! True Minstrel of the Dawn. Will see him again in Heaven one day. 💐🍀🌹
Gordon Lightfoot Lay him down in clover Soft as eider down Gentle winds make roses bloom where tender love is found Softly blow you northern winds Draw him to your breast high up in the mountains where the wild eagles nest Silver wings of summer Lift the minstrel high Carry him to paradise where laughter never dies Faith complete his journey where joy will never end What a tail his thought could tell where love will make amends By the winding river a single tear drop fell somewhere in the mountains and broke an evil spell Steeple bells were ringing out above the lobster pots Poets that were never heard sang songs that never stopped In Biscuit city serenades called children to their wings making them an audience for the minstrel when he sings
I listened to it on Sugarmegs once. Classical guitarist Liona Boyd and some Irish guy opened for him. He didn’t come out until about 2/3 of the way through the show.
Try the upload ( live in New York City 1977, bootleg. ) Much like the above with a few different songs and incredible sound but no video. Best live sound I have heard under the conditions it was recorded.
'Spanish Moss.' Erotic, sensuous, triple entendres celebrating his first wife's womanhood, body, their romantic meeting in Georgia after their divorce and the regret he'll never have her back. All of the song written years after the divorce. He wrote 'Beautiful for her, as well. When the divorce was finalized. Not to mention every one of his best love songs and songs of deep regret written from the start to end of his career. To say he never got over her is an understatement.
He deserves a Hall of Fame all his own. NO ONE has ever written songs like he did. 400+. ALL of them told a story. Absolutely incredible.

I can’t stop crying💔💜
Gordon Lightfoot
Lay him down in clover
Soft as eider down
Gentle winds make roses bloom
where tender love is found
Softly blow you northern winds
Draw him to your breast
high up in the mountains
where the wild eagles nest
Silver wings of summer
Lift the minstrel high
Carry him to paradise
where laughter never dies
Faith complete his journey
where joy will never end
What a tail his thought could tell
where love will make amends
By the winding river
a single tear drop fell
somewhere in the mountains
and broke an evil spell
Steeple bells were ringing out
above the lobster pots
Poets that were never heard
sang songs that never stopped
In Biscuit city serenades
called children to their wings
making them an audience
for the minstrel when he sings
very nice.
Did you write this?
Beautiful! 😍
What a stellar performance only the King of Songwriting could master❤😊
i believe i was at this show - great stuff , - thank you for posting this
That’s awesome! I would’ve loved to have seen Gordon live back in the day
I saw him at Symphony Hall and also Tanglewood, in this time frame, too. 👍🏼We, were smart.
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you good sir, this was a nice treat. Nova Scotia.
Beautiful..
Thanks for posting! great job by Rick and Terry too on background vocals! Rick can sing darn good! Loved when he was miced up!
Do wish that Gord would have let him continue in the later years. Rick added that extra special sauce to the concert.
@laowai5690 Not to mention the fact that Rick is arguably one of the most underrated bass players of the last fifty years
I was there. LOVE. God Bless Gordon Lightfoot.
Great concert and great picture
Great to find these old concerts from other states!
Classic Lightfoot. Thanks for this.
I listened to it on Sugarmegs once. Classical guitarist Liona Boyd and some Irish guy opened for him. He didn’t come out until about 2/3 of the way through the show.
Yeah I found that so interesting
❤so happy to subscribe😊
YEAH GORDON YOU ARE THE LEGEND I LIKE TO LISTEN TO YOU
Thank you for posting this concert
You’re welcome!
I can’t thank you enough. I can’t believe I’m listening to this right now. Track two now and had to stop and thank you
That version of “Hangdog Hotel Room” sounds kinda like “Betty Called Me In” from songbook. The way Terry is playing the guitar reminds me of it.
I agree, it definitely has that. Interesting to hear the song in its beginning stages

Thanks Gord.
Does anybody know how many times he appeared in Boston?
The Auctioneer!!!! He didn't do that too often
It's on Dream Street Rose (1980).
@@MackeyBigBoy4014 Yea, I have that album. I meant in concerts. Ty
No Carefree Highway 😢
He didn't play it often as he didn't particularly like it. He mentions that in passing during this concert.
@@harlowrioux5790 he cut a whole verse out the last 15-20 years on tour. Last verse
I think you are replying to the wrong person. @@michpackfan
@@harlowrioux5790 were you referring to Carefree Highway?
