Great review. I love this board. I surf it a little longer than usually recommended (a bit over 6' -- I'm 6'3 190 and older than you are) and find that it performs well in pretty much any surf except maybe really steep barreling surf that's well overhead where you might be stepping up anyway and the Biscuit's width becomes a problem. In California surf this is the best all around board I've ever had.
I picked up this board in 5'10 just last year. I'm a beginner/ intermediate. 6'1 (184cm) 70KG. I do really like this board in medium surf, great paddling into waves and smooth naturally carving type surfing. I seem to struggle in small gutless 2-3ft compared to others surfers, not sure if it is the lack of rocker, but this board seems to need a little bit more power. I use it with Rob machado fins which I highly rate. Hard to duckdive, I could really use an extra 5kg in the upper body just to help get the front down, though if you grab the very front of the board you can down to a metre deep, though it requires alot of strength and can get exhausting quickly.
hey i surf this board for last 3 years - love it!!!!!! always make me smile i even like it better in a bigger wave then everybody think you should ride it - waist to shoulder\head high you can do perfect S shape surfing and i love to reliss the tail on the lip its so much easy and fun making curve on the wave...... will always make you fall in love(again) in surfing
I just rode this board in gutless long beach , NY wave today. It was a pisser!! SUPER FUN and can catch thick slow long board waves and fly.. I mean, FLY! I m definately not a pro, but was more interested in getting a better board for these mean summer days when nothing seems to work without resorting to LOG. I m 5'7/ 145 and I rode a 5'8. no problems and no squirrel! I m really surprised at how hyped this board is and how seriously GOOD it is. Great SHOW! THANKS!!!
Have been surfing this board and a biscuit clone done by another shaper for the last 6 years. Literally ride it in everything from knee high beach break to double overhead reefs. No exactly ideal for the extremes, but it'll hold its own. Great volume, incredible paddle power and skate, but has a few performance aspects such as the rounded thumb tail that allow it to hold in on days with more power, especially with a set of stiffer larger fins. Riding it shorter allows you to whip it around on a dime. Quite high performance in the chest to head high range. A very fast and playful addition to the quiver.
bought a 5 10 second hand with cover and leash, sooo stoked ,big fins 38 litres, have to keep weight ay back on steep drops, fast and loves carves ,easy to catch waves, paddles like a ferrari,.you nailed it here and pure board porn .Im 52 and one of the great reasons to be alive are boards like this .you"re killin it kid Kia ora !
Nice review man. I have had the biscuit for a while now. And I love it when it is less than 4 foot, and pretty mushy waves. It has been in some steeper, bigger stuff, and just shoots through the wave; I was expecting it to be kinda sluggish, and was surprised by its speed. But, the only problem I have is the duck diving, which I really struggle with, with its high volume. But I guess on smaller days, its not much of a problem. I have had a few close calls with rocky ledges and shallow reefs with this board; as I can't duck dive this too well (my fault, not the board; but the high volume doesn't help). The board is great, and is the board i go to most of the time !! This beast will catch any wave !
Just surfed a 5'8" biscuit this morning in crappy 3 foot wave faces and it was awesome. Didnt think id ever surf any board under 6 foot. I did tire out easily though even though my standard short board has a similar volume to it.
It is. Its shorter than me. It went great though but it doesnt have the length of my other board so its a bit harder to paddle. Feels super lively on the wave though. I think this guy has an even shorter one.
if your in Australia (especially illawarra/south coast nsw) check out the Pipsqueak by Treehouse..unreal skatey type surf board, beats anyboard ive ever surfed, Dave puts alotta love in his boards (wooden too!)
My experience when is maxing out is mixed: when the period is longish (+12) and the lip jacks hard is a pain. Press the tail to make the drop and one is left behind, press the nose and one goes down. But when the lip is not that commanding is absolutely fun
What's the length? Would you be able to put the dims in the description section? Just to give us scale for comparison? That would be awesome! Keep up the awesome work!
Hey Chris, since no one else is commenting on how this board surfs, can you please put your two cents into the description on how you feel it surfs....I understand you don't want to put it in the video, but some comments would be nice. This will also give the viewers a template on how to add comments on your other videos. Thanks.
Maurie Cole was 5 years behind. I did what he claimed to have done, in 1976. Back then I called it the spiral concave (exactly what every board is today). But who buys surfboards from a physics/chemistry under graduate.
Great video and very professional advising a lot of fun to learn what you have to give, I myself surf the al merricks "pod" a grate surfbord and I want to get some information about it if possible, thanks...
If you had the choice between the Biscuit, Average Joe or the Hypto Krypto what would you recommend? I'm an average intermediate+ surfer, am 5'9" 150 lbs and surf the cliffs in San Diego and go to Baja a bunch. Looking for a board for just about all conditions up to a couple feet overhead.
So what fcs fins would you recommend for a 6.0 175lbs intermediate guy. The thing is that I have a 5.10 that I don't really feel, got it working perhaps once or twice on some socal pointbreaks, else..nah I use something else. But hoping the right fin config could help.
I am a novice that has been surfing for about 6mos. I am having a board shaped like the biscuit because of this video. I'm 6'1" 180 lbs and am getting a 6'3" biscuit type shaped board. My question is about the fin setup. The board will come with a 5 fin futures setup. What are the main differences between the quad setup and the thruster setup when riding the hunting beach mooshy waves? Also it's there ever a reason to rock all five fins at the same time?
I have a 6'0" biscuit. It's super fun in Puerto Rico when I go and it's on. And it's fun until it gets weak, then it's to big for me. I need like a 5'6" or 8".
I'm 5'9 180 pounds intermediate and ride a 5'4 biscuit. Its very loose and fast. All the guys that say it doesnt must have gotten one too big for their size. In knee high waves its pretty slow but waist high and it will fly.
+Alex Jeffery Yeah it might be a good choice for you. I'm 6'0 75 kg and it floats more than any other board i have. completely on top of the water. i have a 5'8 and i could easily go much shorter. maybe somewhere in the 5'8-5'10 range would be good. its a really buoyant board.

Here a decade later after picking up a 5’8” in good shape from eBay….still watching Shred Shows

Same here ! I’m nearly 50, just found a 5’8 on eBay still in great shape with AM fins. Pretty sure it’s too small but having fun finding out 😁
Nice review man.

Right, cause you buy a board to duck dive it

Own a 510 biscuit love that board. Blew out the side fin boxes multiple times, how would it surf as a single fin!
Excellent review, great delivery.....boards good too....
Great show!!! I would love to see some Xanadu boards reviewed. Specifically the Gipos, Pig 2, and Piglet.
Thanks for the feedback Jose. Sounds like you've got it wired.

in addition to another great review i think the next step to your show would be to incorporate fin reviews!

Hey ! You should talk about fins! Thrusters, quads and that stuff
Maurie Cole was 5 years behind. I did what he claimed to have done, in 1976. Back then I called it the spiral concave (exactly what every board is today). But who buys surfboards from a physics/chemistry under graduate.
I have this board and it really turns well despite the volume.
Great video and very professional advising a lot of fun to learn what you have to give, I myself surf the al merricks "pod" a grate surfbord and I want to get some information about it if possible,

What is the difference in The Biscuit and the board Machado just put out The Creeper?

Is this board good for a larger guy? (6'3, 90kg). Thanks
