Keeping Trains Clean During CoronaVirus

- GTR/Thameslink invited me to spend the day with them at St. Albans and Bedford to see the huge effort they are making with keeping their stations and trains clean during this time.
Filmed safely: geofftech.co.uk...
With the new message now being "Let's Travel Safely This Summer" it was good to see the work that goes on, for reassurance of a safe journey.
How Busy Is My Train? (Find a quieter service) : www.thameslink...
My thanks to everyone at Thamelink and the staff at St. Albans and Bedford!
My Underground Map face covering is a home made thing btw, courtesy of my friend Paul whose wife made it. Thank you!
It suits you Geoff 💛
G H I agree
could be a money £pinner, right there, sign me up.
Thanks for the video Geoff. And it's great news that we can use public transport again.
It suits you very well hope you are well
This should be broadcast on TV to let the general public what the railway companies are doing to make safer
In my opinion, I think GTR are the most influencer and enthusiast friendly company I know of. They are always looking for new ways to invite Geoff to show what they’re doing and it’s getting the news out there about what they’re doing. Great work Geoff!
Went on a London Northwestern Train on Wednesday, and I have never seen such a clean train. Even the window ledges spotless!
That's how they should be though.
The thing I find most reassuring is the number of train staff I still see using the trains for their own commutes. I think that's honestly the only sign that I really trust. If staff are comfortable then I'm comfortable.
I work at St Albans and up the line, it’s great you came to see how we’re protecting everyone ☺️ but gutted that I didn’t meet you
I love the Ghostbuster teams at stations, massive cool. Finally Geoff Marshall is allowed on the rail network again, civilization has returned.
Looking stylish with that Tube map mask. Seriously that's a cool mask

Thanks Geoff! I didn't think this would be interesting, but it was!
_This is a public service announcement brought to you by Geoff Marshall_ :)
But, on a more serious note: Thanks for bringing clarity into a difficult situation! Things are getting a bit confusing, and it's good to see people and companies taking the measures seriously.
Also, thanks for highlighting the details of the measures. As things get more relaxed, the rules become more complicated and it gets harder and harder to keep up.
actua99 | Confusing the public IS the governments strategy. It is so that they can say to the idiotic public ‘well, we told you the rules - you didn’t follow them’ when infections sky rocket - which they will.
There’s only one rule needed: don’t go anywhere near crowded spaces until a vaccine is available. If you chose to ignore that, your risk IS immediately elevated. It’s an airborne virus. Duh.
The government don’t care how many lose their lives. You’re just a number. Don’t be a statistic.
ATP trains and ATP Adenosine Triphosphate. What a coincindence. Whilst the majority of us are asleep there are hordes of people cleaning trains. Reassuring.
Greetings from NYC. I’ve watched your videos sporadically in the past and much more regularly during the Pandemic.
You are delightfully eccentric and have a uniquely effective way of making otherwise dull but important things like train and station sanitation utterly fascinating, as evidenced by the 1.7K to 30 thumbs up to down ratio as of this viewing.
That's very reassuring. The trains and stations have never been so clean. I'll be happy to start travelling on surface trains again. What I'd like to know is whether TfL is being as thorough with its trains and stations.
maybe you can suggest the TfL to test specimen collected from frequently-touched places armrest, handrail, door-opening buttons, floors. I’m living in China and the transport group in our city did that and found all of the about 250 specimen are negative. This heavily restore passenger’s confidence of the reliability of public transport.
Travelled from Grimsby to Crewe via Stockport this week. Everything very professionally handled, and a stress-free journey both ways. Staff were very helpful at all points. Special thanks to Gourmet Coffee on platform 5 at Crewe 🍵🥧
imagine if after all this covid they actually keep the cleaning shedule up..now that would be something
Look forward to your ticket price increasing tenfold if it does....
It would be hard, with an increase of train services again to the full capability of the fleet. At the moment, lots of services are still not running to full timetable, so it is easier to clean it.
7:21 Nasty things people leave behind: Daily Mail, Daily Express...
Yeah you need the hazmat suit to even go near that muck
If a guardian is left behind everyone in a 2 foot area of it needs to self isolate for 6 months ;)
st Albans is my local station. used to travel from there in to London all the time and down to Brighton alot. not been on a train in ages
very friendly and helpful there. im a wheelchair user always happy to see me and help me on and off trains . i miss the staff there
I am not so keen on trains but whenever I watch RUclips my friend is like
Geoff Marshall!!!
Haha that is what happened!!!!
Yup!
Hey Rufus
What should we do next on the channel?
@@TheAnnilhus am I coming to yours later
This needs to be shown on local telly, replicated across the various regions and shown on local telly in those regions. A picture paints a thousand words.
Read it as the product is used on STAFF themselves. I did think that was a bit far. :)
Brilliant Geoff love your posts ,,,, I now follow the lazer guy as well
U are not supposed to comment like that
@@brendannotfound what? Why?
Stations and trains will never be this clean again!!! Great to see what they are doing to make things safe.
It is impressive, and reassuring, to see the lengths to which they are going to keep their trains and customers safe. I'd never have thought that you can keep a surface biologically safe for up to a month.
Why not make that app public? Allow everyone to see when the unit they are traveling on was last cleaned? That would really boost people's confidence.
But it would also mean that some people get worried, because it was a while back.
Well for a train enthusiast that's all well and good but your average commuter is not going to be looking for the number of the unit.
Very informative and interesting video. Honestly I started travelling back on the trains since the 4th July, only because I had no means to get to the Didcot Railway Centre but surprisingly they're still quiet, a few days later was on a peak time evening train around 4pm from Stoke-on-Trent to Stafford and there was only 3 people including myself on the train but it is nice that they have changed Essential/Necessary travel to travel safety.
These documentaries are part of our Covid history - thanks Geoff
I visited St Albans this weekend with some friends. Of course, we all wore face coverings and made sure to distance from other passengers as much as possible. Very happy to see GTR/ThamesLink are doing their bit as well.
Now you can feel safe to sit in pain on an a seat made of ironing boards.
"Essential travel only" was ditched by government on 1 June FYI. There's even been extra trains put on to take tourists to the seaside the past few weeks
But my mate at Filey told me this morning that the place is rammed, but there is almost nobody on the trains (he works for the railway) and everybody has come by car.
Proper public announcement music too, great stuff
RUclips's a funny old place Geoff. You put a lot of work into producing a very professional, informative video, pretty much a "public information broadcast", interviewing people who are "in the know" and sharing simple, straightforward information and advice on rail travel in the current situation. After 8000+ watched the video, the most popular question in the comments is "How have you got a tube map mask?" Is it worth it Geoff; is it worth it? 😂
Thanks for another interesting episode; keep 'em coming.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
i grew up in st albans and still visit regularly to see my parents, but i havent been for the past 6 months (...obviously) so this video is a nice litte peak into my hometown station!
This video shows how surreal the world is at the moment.
Great to know your equipment is cleaner than expected!
I wonder if SW Trains will clean theirs? I commuted from Waterloo to Bracknell for about 6 years and cleaning meant quickly picking up copies of the Metro. Occasionally a bottle of water would get kicked over and lazily roll along the sticky floor, washing some of the grime away to reveal it was some shade of blue rather than brown. I did once get on a carriage that was clean, I can only assume it was either new, or someone had previously died in it.
I hope they are paying the people cleaning a trainlod of money, each, for their jobs. They are keep you lot safe! I'm in the northern psrts of Sweden and don't see a lot of people on my staycation.
To everyone cleaing up for the rest of us, make sure you get paid properly. And also, thank you so much.
Another brilliant video Geoff looking forward to getting back in the railways myself plus cool mask
I want the mask Geoff is wearing.
look on the london transport museum website
What, after it's been over his gob all day 😯
@@caw25sha 🤣
Sounds rather unhygienic.
Being a railway worker. I can confirm there are 100% nasty things left behind 🤣🤣🤣. Great video. All TOCs are working hard to ensure we are safe
Looking forward to more of these as usual. One day hopefully will encounter you again Geoff like that time at Aylesbury
Oh WOW it is nice to see you back on a train Geoff!!!
I find it funny when ANYBODY is asked if they are cleaning more, they say yes, and the persons like “ WOW!!”
Miss the old St Albans station, 1950's vintage, grubby, decrepit but fascinating. greetings from Australia.
glad you did this one Geoff, I wouldn't have mist it for the world...
Thank you Geoff for this video. I’m travelling next week to see my sister who is having chemotherapy, I feel so much happier now i seen it
The new acceleration sounds are like a siren!
You were in St Albans!!!! That’s were I live wish I had known!! You are my favourite RUclipsr!!
This is probably the cleanest the station have been. I wonder how much of this they are still doing.
Nice mask if anyone stares: "Are you trying to figure out where to change the train or are you just happy to see me?"
Good to see you're still uploading
Not Ghost Busters, Virus Busters! Great video Geoff
Nice work. (Minor) Summer lockdown continues, until either + highly unlikely mid/late Autumn. If when changes appear and time when time. Keep up a good work, Geoff! And keep on whenever next update to come.
#StaySafe #SafeLives #SafeTravels
Very nice video. Informative and entertaining. Thank you!
It is a good video I don't get why people would dislike it
I live in herne hill! You should film more things by the sainsbury local ;)
Wait who liked (lmao)
Excellent production and content. Thank you. Does anyone have a link to anything that compares different train companies responses? I have only used Northern, who have invested in custom made Don't Sit Here! seat covers to try and maintain social distancing. GTR/Northern clearly haven't. Seeing people on the covers even when things are quiet I would guess it would have been better to spend the money on cleaning?
WELL DONE GTR
Hi Geoff, thank you for another great video - just a thought - I imagine you are pushed for time etc, but it would have been great to have given a mention to the staff members shown actually doing the cleaning - they are doing as important a job as the managers.
Geoff, I'm hoping you could do a short video with some advice for those of us who've invested in rail passes.
On your advice, I buy a Network Gold Card every year. However, because of lockdown, I haven't travelled by train since lockdown, and probably won't until Sept/Oct.
I called National Rail Enquiries, who (VERY rudely) told me to call London Waterloo, where no one seems to answer the phone.
Are we entitled to any kind of refund/extension in lieu?
I know there'll be thousands more in a similar position. I know you can help us!
Can I just say that I would appreciate if this continued after the pandemic is over...
Nice mask Geoff! 🙂
All your videos are awesome
Thank you so much 😀
I used to live in england a be a really nerdy train lover but we moved to Australia anyway could you maybe mention me in one of your videos
I used to live in england and be a really nerdy train lover but we moved to Australia anyway could you maybe mention me in a video and by the way i am 13
This looks great!
Did the Man from the Train company say " LATENT EFFICACY " If so That's only the Second time in my Life I've ever heard those two words together.
Use it or lose it, that's the message for all forms of public transport.
Great video Geoff! Nice to see that they’re keeping everything clean! I love the no touch dispensers but there should be more of them - I go through 2 southern stations daily for my commute but only one has a no touch point. Love them! Don’t see many people using them though! What is shocking is that the other is Victoria which is a whole lot busier & only has one very small pump action one!! 😱 I imagine the amount of people using that & just use my own stuff! 😆
Good work, Geoff. Thanks.👍
Is the Great Northern Operations Manager genuinely called Darrin Findlater?!
Do they have a similar cleaning regime at the Tube Stations and on the Tube trains?
As a travelling technician, I have to make the judgement call daily taking the required journey and the amount of equipment I need into account between train and car. Lately it's been car all the time for safety and as it's been quiet on the roads anyway but I'm going to start to use Tubes again soon as the traffic builds up again.
I missed you when you went to St Albans I was working Elstree instead :(
01:59 A new age of steam??
Great content! This will be helpful to people studying this pandemic in the future :)
Great video work keep it up cheers. It's good to know there are a lot of other jobs out there for people to do for the future temporary until things get better and back on track as normal in time with a vaccine for covid-19 in the future.😀😎🌩️🔥☀️☀️👍🇬🇧
That was amazing
Idea for a great new game:
I was cleaning a train and found...
Great video Geoff
A, the face mask is awesome! Should make it in different colors to go with each line...District, Picadilly, ect...also, I have seen soo many ads with ultraviolet towers that you can press a button and put it over any surface..even towers. Wonder if they have tried that and it didn't work or never thought of doing that or it was pointless? Either way, I am glad they are keeping the trains and depot areas clean and sanitzed!
clean clean trains, on the rail railways
tube map mask
aaaa tammer
i recognise that music from tpe's repainting the class 185 trains
Like it? Love it! Great mask Geoff!
Geoff am a fan of you
Whilst we applaud our NHS let’s give a big up to other essential staff working to support our transport services
even though i’m a bedford local, and a train enthusiast, i didnt know the trains were cleaned here
Wonder if this is depth of cleaning is also true to other operations? 🤔 I guess there are guidelines for all the operators similar???
I'm a cleaner, and god, do all of us cleaners have those exact red buckets?! I have a few blue ones too, but I feel like we all have that exact bucket 😂😂
I’ve got that face mask as well. It’s so cool
Excellent.....
Fun fact. ATP is used in energy production
Geoff, loved the video, loved the face mask, I want one. Please, please, please do a similar video about cleaning the buses
I. Must. Have. That. Mask. Now.
Great video mate, love the face mask too. I'm going to share this as hopefully it will give some of my friends some much needed confidence.
I go to St Albans a lot (even though I live in West Yorkshire) it is amazing You should go to the waffle House also hello Geoff It is a really good video love all your vids you my favourite RUclipsr, more London Underground vids would be nice geoff it would be nice to see footage of you at Denby Dale it is a nice place with lots to do.
Loved this vid
Love the focus on hard work being done!
That said, Geoff any reaction to the Banksy art on a train removed by cleaners this week?
You mean the vandalism?
@@jameschristmas3206 I think its both - art AND vandalism. I think thats part of makes it interesting to talk about!
"Graffiti is graffiti, even when masquerading as art"
The cleaning was part of the art. Ephemeral.
Went on the train last week (redcar to middlesbourogh)
Do your videos get broadcast further than RUclips? Do they make their way to television and other media platforms?
Herne is also a nice town in Germany.
So does this title suggest I can travel for non - essential reasons this summer, providing I take all necessary measures? Great video by the way.
we've been able to for weeks, but it's only recently that train companies in English have welcomed this.
Love that mask. Can you sell them as a fundraiser?😷👍
Nice face mask!
