It blows my mind that people just don't clean up after themselves. I would never consider just leaving food packaging on a train!
I agree, unfortunately, there are no bins though due to terrorism. People should carry it but human nature prevails.
@@PeterMcPhile Yes, they were.
@Dream Clean never thought about that! You'd think they could have locking slotted ones for only news paper/small trash. But I'm sure a terrorist can figure out how to fit a bomb in...
That's bollocks, there are bins in the streets all over England and people throw it on the ground.just messy pigs who don't give a S
@@PeterMcPhile then carry it with you out of the station until you find a trashcan.
On a trip to London with my kids, we were near the tunnel entrance watching mice running round on the track. The station announcer came over the public address "please keep away from the tunnel entrance, if you want to look at the wildlife, go the London Zoo".
I was shocked to see upholstered seating on London trains. In New York City all the seating is hard plastic, which is much more difficult to vandalize.
How many people complain about the seats? On most GTR trains in London, the seats are described ‘hard as iron boards’ but theyre at least 3x softer than plastic chairs. I’m fairly sure 3x more people complain about GTR’s train than NYC subway trains, yet GTR has 3x more comfortable seats
There are parts of some US subways that haven't had a deep cleaning since they were built.
Yeah, like the one in New York City
And we have careless idiots to thanks for that, homeless folk’s especially
@@nezarionbraxton8790 I bet those people were probably never disciplined when they were younger
@@MrStark-up6fi nope They clearly were not because if they were, they wouldn’t do shit like that
This filth comes with the multicultural population.
I grew up in Germany and seeing the London Underground for the first time, I was so shocked that a Train can be so clean. I even placed my backpack on the floor, i never do this on public transport in germany, not even in munich, where it is cleaner that the average. I know now that it is so clean there because they clean up there on a regularly basis. I wish they would deepclean in germany as well...
Damn.. How bad are German trains?
Very bad, if you‘re lucky and the train comes on time or at all
Hmm. I am from Germany too and have completely different experiences. Where I travel, trains are typically very clean.
That being said, our trains are not from DB (Deutsche Bahn), but instead a private operator
They can really be that bad? I spent two months in Germany and found the trains perfectly clean most of the time, of course with a few bits of trash here and there, but very rarely. I rode bwegt and the Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn in BW, the Berlin S-Bahn and U-Bahn, and RE/RB/ICE services in Hessen, Thuringen and Berlin.
I have had other experiences in Germany. Maybe because I live in the middle of nowhere (2000 people town with trains) but here even the full trains for students (around 500-700 people for 5 different schools) we have clean floors, seats and everything. They recently hired a guy who picks up trash in the middle of the run (the stop where 3 of the schools are an the connection to the other 2 is) And the trains are not private they are officially part of DB Westfrankenbahn. But they are always precisely 2 minutes and 37 seconds late in the morning and on time at noon. (Yes I measured that)
I've no idea what these guys earn, but it's not enough!
Wow. I knew that some cleaning was done, but never to the extent of what is picked up, scraped off and swept up in the tunnels. I've always respected clean up crews, but this lends to a deeper respect for the Underground teams. I live in Canada, but every time I visit London, I've noticed the increase of free newspapers littering the carriages. Is there a particular reason, especially in our digital world, that these free newspapers are so readily available and necessary in/around Underground stations? Thank you for this excellent video!
The free newspapers are located in news stands outside tube stations. People pick them as they enter the station. It's as easy as that.
@@ds1868 Sorry, but that is not the point of my question. We too used to have them at entrances to our transit. But, since not allowing them near transit entrances any more, it has drastically reduced newspaper litter to a nil and lessened work for the cleanup crews. There seems to be a lack of responsibility and regard for the environment esp. when it involves a free item.
@@IIII2IIII Which Canadian city stopped allowing newspapers at transit stations? The STM entered into an exclusive agreement with the publisher of 24 Hours in 2011 allowing for the distribution of their papers in STM stations, which caused Metro to stop publishing in Montreal. In Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Halifax, Metro tried rebranding as StarMetro in 2018 before exiting these markets in 2019 due to a decline in print advertising. 24 Hours stopped publishing in Gatineau (2008), followed by Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa (2013), then the Toronto and Vancouver editions were bought by TorStar (pubilisher of competing Metro/StarMetro) in 2017. In 2021, Montreal's 24 Hours was rebranded as "24" and changed to a weekly publication schedule.
@@plur90 Thanks very much for all the info. Years ago, when wishing to obtain a copy, I was informed by the transit workers at that particular station that the newspaper was not to be distributed there anymore, too many complains of rubbish left behind. Since reading your comment, I have searched and read a few articles on-line regarding this. Their disappearance, it seems, was due to lack of advertisement and not a ban from transit. So, for all this time I have been led astray. Thanks plur90 for clearing this up. I still wish folks would be more responsible and mindful when discarding their rubbish, not only on transit but everywhere.
This is an old video I believe they don’t use the train wash at Stratford depot anymore as it’s not working and they say it doesn’t clean properly, they fill up chemical in a bucket and use a brush to clean outside, they also don’t mop the train like that, you do use a mop to wet the floor with chemical then a scrubbing machine is used to scrub every carriage. In order it’s the floor pick up rubbish, looking for chewing gum and cleaning that, hovering all the seats, while an interior team wipes down surfaces, then the floor team wets the floor with a mop using chemicals on all the carriages then one floor person uses a scrubbing machine in all the carriages after this the interior team throw water in the carriage they are working in to remove chemicals and get rid of excess water, the floor team use a special hover to suck away remaining water, after this every1 cleans the outside using a bucket full of chemical using a brush but sometimes this is done at the beginning and finally the floor team polish the floor twice.
Sounds like my sort of cup of tea job. I clean the LNER trains for a living and the amount of rubbish and grim we deal with on a daily basis is crazy and it's even more nuts when people leave there personal belongings behind.
How do u get into the jobs cleaning trains?
Many thanks for the work you do.
No mention of the first job for cleaners and maintenance crews then, now don't keep the secret to yourself.
The first job is to check the seats for lost coins jewellery etc
40 years ago (pre Kings Cross fire) I lived in central London and used the tube for my daily travel. It was very dirty. Everything was grimy from cigarette smoke, floors were littered with rubbish. Getting home in the evening my clothes were grimy and stinking. Nowadays, I visit London a few times a year and am constantly amazed at how clean it is. There is some litter (mainly abandoned 'free' papers) but even that tends to be 'clean' litter and gets removed pretty promptly. There has been a vast improvement in the 40 years - triggered by the smoking ban and changing social expectations.
Massive respect to these men
On the Tube It used to be just women(in gender only? 🤔)used as tunnel fluffers & car cleaners🧹Guess men wanted equal rights to become a fluffer & cleaner operative person 🤭ruclips.net/user/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f914.png
How people leave the trains like that is beyond me
All you have to do is look at the state of our streets, parks etc litter e everywhere, disgusting
Narcissistic people mostly in London
Yes it is, people are just tramps these days, no respect for anyone/anything
I'd forgotten about the days of free newspapers - thanks for a big bang of nostalgia.
I commute everyday - there’s still free newspapers on the tube :)
@@isntitj Isn't it because of the signal on the tube?
The ‘Metro’ in the morning, and the ‘Evening Standard’ in the late afternoon. That’s just for starters.
@@heli-crewhgs5285 That's true, but it's nowhere near as bad now as the days of The London Paper and London Lite as seen in this video. Plus, 9 times out of 10, people on the tube are on their phones these days - I very rarely see people reading free newspapers any more.
@@ShowRyuKen makes no difference. Always been the same
Wow, my hats off to these cleaners!
This is one of the most amazing videos I have seen on RUclips. Thanks!
I worked on the overground, my wife worked on both the underground and latterly the overground. If the trains were not cleaned, the passengers would be the first to complain, yet they are the ones responsible for it in the first place. We had one on the overground referred to as a " Box of Eggs", which when placed on the third rail ( juice rail), it would tell you if the 660/ 750 volts DC is on or off. Hats off to all these fellows.
People have become mannerless. Take your crap with you and clean your mess.
Most people do; however when tens of thousands of tube users use each train then there will be a significant number that do leave a mess.
They should introduce fines and shaming for littering.
@@adamdzwoniarek3841 I suspect that the laws are there, it's the enforcement that's the problem.
so much money could be saved if people just had good manners
Tunnel fluff would still form
Now I’ve figured out why they strike so much 😂 didn’t know there was this much to cleaning up trains as they always come dirty anyway
I worked for over 30 years on the Underground and the amount of rubbish left on the trains and the stations has gotten much worse over the years.
It’s not hard to take your rubbish and put it in the bin! Thank you to these people who clean the Tube trains.
It's really no effort to hold on to our waste till we see a bin.
People are just lazy.
I’m also in the uk (hour away from london) and when we go on the c2c, i see them clean at fenchurch st station but they probably do it at shoeburyness aswell.
yeah ive seen them do it at fenchurch street too
Here in Kyiv we also have metro and everything is clean, people here are concious not to litter and not to leave anything in the train. It is shocking to see how people in the birthplace of a metro seem not to care at all.
Here in my state in Austria our SBAHN Trains tend to be clean, however, in the evenings especially during Party season they tend to get dirty. Also there is a new Trend where people take this "snus", a swedish oral nicotine Patch, and then when used just through it somewhere in the train, absolutely disgusting!
Wild how the only time I've experienced a clean train was when the circle line got its new trains
We have a rule here, you brought something, you take it home with your and recycle, I rarely even use the public trash bins unless I really have nowhere to put the trash or its really unhygienic like used hankie
These guys are the silent hero’s of our railways , awesome , we appreciate you
It is not the train that is filthy. It is some of the passengers who are filthy in their personal habits and leave rubbish around. Another place where people leave rubbish is on Motorway verges. They throw rubbish out of car windows, rather than take it home with them , to dispose of there .
I feel very sorry for the Council workmen in Crawley, Sussex , who have to risk their lives collecting the rubbish strewn on the verges on both sides of the way off at the junction with the A 264 for Crawley town centre. The Council have even put up a notice asking people nott o throw rubbish out of car windows , to no avail.
Crawley is a lovely town . which I visit because my son lives there . To the few Crawley residents , who chuck out their rubbish on their way home I say, ""Keep your rubbish in your car, and put it in your local shopping area waste bins and recycling bins. There are plenty available.
I am a cleaner in a pub and some people are disgusting, what I have to clean up, and the toilets WELL don't get me started on that subject xxx
What a job! I take my hat off to those people who keep the network clean.

Wow, this is how the Jubilee Line used to look! My eyes forgot after all the trains were refurbished
Love these videos
It's all the behind the scenes 'stuff' that fascinates me about the Tube.
Same for many I reckon. 🙂🙂
On the 'big' railway if you had to phone ahead and ask for the vomit kit the cleaners were very grumpy.
I can't say I would be too impressed about it
It has been a myth to me how trains, benches and other places can be so filthy and littered. i do not leave things behind me and bins are never too far away. I would be very pleasantly surprised whenever i see a train with very clean floor and seat cushions which r not "grey". Yes they exist. 😆
On the Chicago's CTA, you are not allowed to eat on it.

In some Asian countries you're banned from taking stinky foodstuffs on public transport. Durian fruit is one example. I haven't been able to use public transport for some years now but when I was able to, I hated the smell of food wrappings and drinks cans.

I was always told by my parents, when I was little, to bring my rubbish home if there wasn't a bin available nearby when I was out. I got a hefty wallop if I didn't comply!
Compared to the TTC trains in Toronto these trains are so small and narrow, I don't like the way the ceilings slope in so low.
Actually impressed with the train cleaning but no mention of the seats, do they get any form of cleaning?
Wow these guys work so hard.
this is like peek 2007

i went on multiple lines of the tube just a few days ago and i hardly saw any rubbish. a wrapper or two at most
This doesn't just happen in London, it happens in all countries on public transport, but it does seem exceptionally bad in London. And I despair when I hear people, especially sport hunters calling many creatures "Vermin" When the real vermin are humans. Its not creatures that pollute the seas, lakes, atmosphere, public parks, beaches etc If animals could talk they would be calling us Vermin. The other disgusting habit some people have is chucking their plastic drink bottles, coffee containers and cans out of their car windows. This is more in evidence when people exit motorways and they commit this disgusting act at the top of the exit lane, throwing their filth out the window onto the grass areas. I see this every single day in my country. I wish the authorities would introduce heave fines for the culprits. And I also believe that to deal with defaulters, they should introduce legislation that would stop them getting motor tax renewal unless the fine is paid. Then they would have to pay even greater penalties for have no motor tax.
Every train cleaner has had to overcome the last train over the weekend...Locally known as "The vomit express" lol

The problem with public transport is that the public catch it!
Im guessing the cause of more mess is the lack of bins on london tubes. they should either stop giving out free newspapers or just get the newspaper companies to pay for screens to read the news off of

Londoners just don't seem to care. There's an attitude that someone else will pick it up, it's not my responsibility. In the small town I now live in, people take their Metro newspapers with them to stick in their own recycling bin.

I’m more surprised that they weren’t using the sepelios petzl helmets when on track
They should design everything to be capable of being spray-washed. In and out. Have one train that just sprays the tunnels. Of course you’d need lots of drain plumbing but it sure sounds cheaper and better in the long run.

I often ride Moscow metro really late into night and see little to no trash either in trains(which are not even quick-cleaned during the day) and on platforms. The only times I saw a credible amount of litter were right after huge football games. I guess we orcs in Mordor here are really built differently.
25 years in a Gulag with 50 lashes with a bull whip is the reason .Don't think we don’t know .

I'm baffled why don't have plastic or metal seats instead of cloth ones. There's some proper disgusting people on the tube, seen people shit, puke etc. Nasty business!
we have cloth seats on some of our subway trains on the mbta, and i absolutely refuse to sit because i can just assume theyve never been washed

I used to work as a fluffer...though my responsibilities were very different to this. I think I've been shafted.
I thought cleaning inside the interior was the hardest part. I never understood it included the tunnels. Whatever dirt in the cars is easily visible in comparison on what lies in the tunnels. Wow.
I was thinking maybe they by this time came up with a technology that spray, sucks and blow dry everything clean. But instead seeing them clean like they did back in decades past shows how far we have not come.
But because we dealing with third rail instead of electrical canary lines, than this is the best way it can be done.

It's about time to mete out fines to commuters who are eating or littering within the trains. Trust me, it will work. In Singapore, nobody would dare to even eat in a train, knowing that he/she will have to pay a hefty sum of fine, if being caught in the act.

The only thing ive left on tge tube is a free newspaper. People are disgusting I never drop litter ever. Put it in your pocket or bag till you find a bin. Do these vile ppl.throw food and rubbish on their floor at home. I doubt it. 🤢
I have to acknowledge the efforts that are made, however, the seats though!? I think they are the only parts that are not cleaned because they would never dry in time.
Upholstered seats are designed never to be cleaned. They soak up dirt from the day they are fitted.
Tom Ford 😂
I always like to think that everyone has good qualities. Then, I remember there are people who don't believe in equality and think they're doing good by letting cleaners pick up their newspapers, saying, 'that's what people below me want to do.' They only pick up your mess because other individuals will see it and think, 'why do we even pay for tickets?' There are bins on the platforms, throw away your own rubbish like a responsible human.
anyone know what this is from?
Damm there should invest in a hoover train:)
