  • Here's a classic Hoover upright that will be familiar to many of you. The Hoover Senior or Convertible if you live in the USA was a very popular model and big brother to the famous Hoover Junior.
    This particular example is in very good condition and full working order with the beats as it sweeps as it cleans action to clean carpets deep down. It's an old machine, but I'm sure it works better than many modern vacuum cleaners available today.

    Its from December 1973, and the 652A / 6525 design never did come with a top fill bag, as top fill bags were not brought in until the second incarnation of the Ranger, the U4014, in the late 70s.

    Lovely Machine, I was lucky enough to stumble across a 6525c a couple of days ago in an antique shop I work in. I couldn’t resist buying it only cost me £15.00 bargain!. I had it on the work bench yesterday and stripped it down and polished the casing up. The postman has just arrived with a pack of new Rubber belts this morning. I just need a dirt search bulb now as the one inside has blown. I love the fact this Hoover has the 4 adjustable floor settings as it works well on hard wood floors and short pile carpets. Something my earlier vacuum cleaners can’t do they just blow the dust and dirt into corners of the room.

    These pre-1980's Hoovers just clean and work and last forever. I always grab one when I see one - we call them 'Convertibles' in the US. Fitted with a HEPA bag, they clean rings around Dysons on really filthy, thicker pile carpets.

    Actually, one of the first American Convertible (Senior) uprights, the model 31, had a foot-actuated power switch, located on the top left of the handle bail/carrying handle. Several Guardsman commercial models had a similar foot switch.

    Hey Roger.. I do like your videos, unboxing new vacuums, demos, and comparisons. But I really get exited more on your vintage vacuums videos.. It is like watching a history documentary on those vacuums, and especially tbe Hoover ones 😎

    Beautiful Hoover vacuum always enjoyed the camera 🎥 being set of the floor or a close up birds eye view of the dirt being beaten and bounce around before being sucked up. It’s so satisfying to watch the magic at work of these old machines.

    Now that's what I call a real Hoover. Here in the USA. The last superb Hoover's I believe were made in the early 80s. And for me the last good upright was the convertible as shown here. And also I'm a big fan of the Dial-A-Matic's. I know they went under a different name in the UK. But I think that the Dail-A-Matic's were a wonderful machine. And the only upright that was easy to use attachments. You couldn't get any simpler than, with that machine. But anyway, that's a wonderful machine. And that one's a keeper. Here in the US as of today. A good one is going for about $400 to $500.

    Thank you for this video! It helped me figure out how to remove the outer cloth bag so I could hand wash it on the Decade 800 I just picked up. I always enjoy your videos and I have learned so much. I am so happy to have my very first "Vintage" vacuum.

    I had one of those 22 years ago when I had my first flat. One of the best Hoover's I have ever used. Any modern Hoover's I've had from £100 and under have all been rubbish and didn't last long. Under a year for each. The only other one I had that lasted 20 years was one of the first or second generation Dyson. Now their just to heavy to move around , well for me anyway. I'm struggling to find a good affordable modern Hoover that's not too heavy and has decent capacity for the dust. Really tempted to see if I can pick up one those again somewhere.

    I don't get bottom fill bags. in my head wouldn't the dirt just over flow back into the tube? I don't know.

    Interesting difference Roger, ours in Australia were also called a Convertible like the US and we did have a foot switch, but ours is a lever switch on the side of the cleaner that comes out on an arm from underneath. We didn’t have the top mounted button switch like yours. I’ve got an Australian made grey 652 model from the 60’s.

    I wonder if a classic Eureka top-fill F & G upright dust bag would fit in the narrow confines of this Senior’s vinyl bag. The paper throat would certainly attach perfectly to the tube at the bottom of the bag using the sliding ring. Make sure you install the Eureka bag with the paper throat facing the handle. This bag design is better than Hoover’s bottom fill C bag, as the dirt falls away from the air stream at the top of the F & G bag.

    That's not only a classic design but it's so streamlined and efficient, nothing compares to it today. Dyson's are a mess compared to this Hoover. I think Hoover should remake the 6525C upright but update it with Hepa bags and make it a bit more luxurious. It would sell like hotcakes.

    It is from 1973. Model 6525C was replaced by Hoover Ranger U4002 in 1974.

    • @stevejones1972
      @stevejones1972 5 лет назад +1

      It was indeed, and the U4002 uses the bottom fill bag design just like the 6525 did, in fact it was pretty much the same machine, but with a new style plastic hood covering the metal chassis in its entirity. The basic 652 design carried on in the Ranger until the late 70s when the U4014 was eventually replaced, so the platform ran for a good 20 years dating back to 1958 when the first 652 came out. The Powerplus which replaced the Ranger in the early 80s was a similar design, but brought more into the 80s, and the soft bag senior PowerPlus was eventually completely replaced with the hard box dirty fan model, the Turbomaster in around 1986.

    • @philliphurley3883
      @philliphurley3883 5 лет назад

      The 652 came out in 1959, the year I was born. My dad jpined Hoover as a sales rep in 1958 and later became a sales manager. He retired in 1990. He would bring new models home and I unpacked and assembled them. He had train shop staff on the new models as part of his job.

    I have used these style vacuums before when I was a custodian at my last job. Had them serviced and gone over, but anything that was hard regardless how small, just bounced around and spit back out. Is that just the nature of these older style vacuums?

    Hello Roger I have another hoover 652 in green same as the one in this video it is in working order even the headlight is working but I am missing the screw for the handle where can you get one and what is the screw for ?

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  8 месяцев назад

      It depends where the screw is. There should be a screw at the base where the handle connects to the bail and a screw and nut that joins the handle together. The best place to get obsolete parts is eBay.

    • @davidbell4548
      @davidbell4548 7 месяцев назад

    Oh I just commented on another one of your vintage Hoover vacuum videos, and this model you are showing in this video has a much more similar body style to the one that I just restored. Except mine has the top fill bag tube that takes a Hoover Type A bag. What an awesome machine. Check it out on my channel if you have a chance I'd love to hear your feedback on what you think!

    I must say you seem a little over critical of your machine, you can't expect a machine to be mint , if you do I suggest you buy brand new and never open the box lol
    That machine is actually in excellent cosmetic condition
