- This old girl came off the production line in 1975, was packed in its box and sent to be sold in a store in some high street somewhere in the UK. The vacuum was purchased, but for one reason or another it was never used and remained unloved and forgotten about. It may have been in a loft where it could hear another vacuum cleaner being used in its place. Perhaps she was too old fashioned for the modern newlyweds or maybe they prefered a cylinder cleaner. It's all guesswork, but now after over 40 years of waiting, this Hoover Junior is going to feel electricity running through her cable and dirt going through her fan. Will it be a shock to her system, or will she spring into life, feeling carpet under her wheels at long last and the touch of dog hairs on her brushes. It's all too much for me, I can't watch, but please watch yourself and let me know what happens.

This just transported me back to when I was 10 years old! My Mum bought one of these, same colour and model and I remember the first time she used it. She was so pleased with how well it cleaned the carpets.
Truly a beautiful machine i’m fortunate enough to have One of the American models. These are very rare in the US, I had always wanted one but I knew I couldn’t get it because I wouldn’t have the money to import one from the UK. So I just said aside my hopes for one but one day on eBay I found one of the American models selling I instantly bought it. Now in America they only made 500 of these before discontinuing it. They are now about 30 left in the US today.... and I am a proud owner of one.
I can't help but fall in Love with this Hoover! One of the first vacuums an adult (my great aunt) let me use and actually vacuum as a child. I think I was about 6 or 7 years old.
The plastic bodies didnt take kindly to being knocked down the stairs.
The metal body weighing more, performed better on carpet than plastic. What memories, thank you.
My favourite model was the 119, very cute. The 912 was massive and heavy.
I'm glad you showed it running sans belt, sounds like mine do post refurb, with new bearings fitted! Sounds and looks beautiful!
James Blunt wrote a song about it apparently, but the record company didn't think it would sell, so he had to pretend he was singing about a woman.
That's a lovely Hoover Junior Roger 🤙
Brilliant I've got three juniors from three different eras and love them all.
Hi Roger what a score lovely Hoover Junior😮👍
You're bringing back memories now.
Great Stuff. My Granny had this model & the tools. & 3314L Hoovermatic Deluxe Twin tub.
I used to repair these in the seventies. I am now 75yrs old. That one sounds fine. The chinese restaurants used to get rice surrounding the fan in the housing caked on.
Plastic body was the beginning of the end for long life Hoovers. The handle ratchet wears allowing the body to drop.
Just file a new edge, sorted. Used to cost Hoover 19/6 to produce.
I have plenty of plastic bodied Hoovers that have stood the test of time. I think the oldest plastic bodied Junior I have is from 1968.
My grandmother had the exact same model. She let me have a go using it back in the 80s when I was a child. It certainly cleaned very well. Unfortunately it stopped working around 1993 when the motor burned out. I do miss the upright vacuums that used a cloth bag to hold the dust bag instead of a hard plastic body. I don't suppose you know the reason why vacuum cleaner manufacturers no longer make an upright with a cloth bag? Anyway I really enjoy your channel so please keep up the excellent work!
The new version of a Hoover based on his own Hoover it sounds really good
Takes me back simple things i remember my mam using one of these when i was a toddler, cats running scarred.
Please be super careful removing the plug I noticed there was no ceramic covering on the pins stopping someone from getting a shock pulling it out.
I suspect it's used like a classic car, for special occasions only.
i have countless appliances in my house with older plugs on them .no one has ever been electrocuted yet .Some of the older plugs are much better quality than new ones and dont even get me started on those moulded on efforts
A design for life I live in America where all of ours plugs are just exposed. No one ever gets shocked. It’s a simple task of just don’t be an idiot.
If you prefer the older fragile plastics by all means use them there are still good quality plugs made in UK or America not everything is Chinese, i was just pointing out a resolved issue for small fingers being an electrician you won't find them in my house.
And America have a complete different plug standards to UK so the issue may not even happen with the different shape and size plug.
I wish we had these in the USA.
Was looking forward to that, thanks for uploading. Could really feel your trepidation when going to turn it on for the first time.
I never like turning on an old vacuum for the first time. I'm OK with brand new ones though.
Nice, amazing find! Although that plug would not comply with current regs as the L & N pins are not insulated.
Adam Davies I live in America where none of our plugs are insulated, and no one ever gets shocked... it’s a simple task of just don’t be a idiot
@@ethan1970 Yes it seems total overkill, but then again the UK has one of the safest electrical systems in the world. Kids have been known to stick items in plug sockets and the likes.
I think I'm going to enjoy watching the full demo of this when you publish it.
Don't hold your breath.😶
Oh dear!
love it i absolutely LOVE IT!
I really like this vac. It does what it does well. No frills. Just a quality carpet cleaner. How did people get those bottom fill bags off without spilling dirt all over the place?
They stand on their head.
I'd like to see you demo that in a video :)
Will do.
See good mate
ShrinkDavid 1982 very carefully! Theres a definite knack to it
my mum had one of these and we had a green one as well
They were a very popular machine back in the day.
Whilst testing the switch of my failed Hoover Turbopower 1000 for 'continuity' my eyes lit upon its predecessor - an early Hoover Junior, in great nick, stuck in the corner of the spare room!! Its original Hoover belt was fraying so I ordered 2 new ones from a local repair shop and the guy said "...oh, just give us a couple of quid!" I can't see a sticker with its number/date of manufacture... mine looks just like yours, but, with a blue wheel height adjuster? Wish me luck...
It’s called a Hoover lightweight in the USA
seeing this film took me back to 28th May 1974 when my mum and I came home from Currys with the same model. ours was slightly earlier with the metal cord hooks. i loved the pvc smell from the bag. this one is from September 1975. i have a 1977 edition of this cleaner in the same unused condition which is a German export model.
should the belt be connected incorrectly, the belt won't fly off in my experience, it will drive the brush in the wrong direction and create a resistance when pushing the cleaner forward.
I have the same wariness you demonstrate about switching something on after sitting unused for along time or just acquired it
You may be interested in the vintage Hoover I'll be showing on my channel on Monday.
thank you.

My mum had this vacuum when I was newborn
Roger, because we have left the EU, will we have high wattage vacuum cleaners again?
I don't think anything will change, not for a couple of years anyway and even when we are fully out of the EU, the regulations regarding vacuums may stay in place. I don't know what will happen in 2017 when the maximum wattage was due to go down to 900 watts.
ibaisaic I think we won't get it.
wish I could find one that was for sale
If it would have been stored in damp conditions you would definitely know
See Greg good mate
Hello ibaisiac I want to say a couple things. First thing is wonderful video. Second thing is my friend lives in the U.K. and he has a Hoover Dust manager vacuum. I also want to ask what year model is this Hoover? Thank you and wonderful video :)
I can't remember, but it was answered somewhere in the comments. Just scroll down a bit and you'll see it.
+ibaisaic Do you have a Dyson DC03
If the brush roll is okay it will creep across the carpet on its own.
Hi there, are you planning to review the Hoover Synthesis? 🙂
Yes.
@@ibaisaic yay! V excited 🙂
You were suggesting that it had in fact been used, due to the fluff/hair you found when unboxing. Have you figured that out?
I stopped thinking about that long ago and manage to move on with my life. It will always be a mystery.
it was probably from the carpets in the hoover factory when they would test these to see if they were working properly before they went on to be sold.
if I test anything like this I get a really long extension lead and hide behind the door. or get someone much braver than me to do it
If I am electrocuted, the video may go viral, so it's not all bad.
Lol. Love the sense of humour
is there any other vacuum cleaner fans who live in aberdeenshire?
have you try a eureka f&g bags?
We don't have Eureka in the UK.
Ibaisiac I remember you have an Electrolux which had essentially the same model as a sanitaire which I assume the non shake out model uses the same f&g type bags might not b called f&g tho would certainly be something to look into
Vacuum turn on at 11:55
