    Dude, I can so relate to that story. I did the same but a year earlier; I went broke to get a ‘99 Commander. Now he won’t even sharpen it because it was made prior to 2000. That “lifetime warranty” he dishonestly claims to offer is bunk. Such a shame because it was people like us who built his company with our buying of his earliest knives. I used mine every day for 15 years until the blade won’t stay closed. Now that he won’t touch it, it’s a paperweight.

      That’s a bummer, I hate hearing that! But funny you had a similar experience. He should proudly rehab your old Commander, I don’t get that.

    I actually like that so many Starbucks “knife guys” with man buns hate on Emerson’s, because they know everything about blade steels and knife composition(because they “watched all the RUclips videos man”). A bunch of douche nozzles that will never use a blade for anything other than opening the next knife package. I love Emerson’s. Ernie is an amazing gentleman, a spectacular designer and a humble man. I’d rather support his incredibly well thought out products over almost anything else at this point. That being said, great video man!

    First off I loved the review/showcase. Job well done..
    However.. I use my edc every day for absolutely everything. Cutting rope, zipties, tinder, carpet, packages, I sharpen my pencils with it, even use it to cut lunch on a daily basis.. i've been thinking of a new knife, and have been considering emerson... but I plan on edc with it. Only problem is I can't justify a new edc. The zt you have put through the paces is my edc. I have had it since release like 8 or so years now, and use it every day. And boy have I put mine through the paces. Everyday I find a use for it and it is still perfect.. I agree with you on finding a zt 0630. It's by far the best knife I've ever owned. The thousands of times I've used it.. it still preforms amazingly. (I'm rough on everything I own). Mine is a bit dull right now after all the years and 1 sharpening, but still cuts like a charm. My steaks don't stand a chance at lunch. I had been thinking about switching but after this video I just can't justify it. I don't think I'll ever like another knife as much as my zt. But if it ever comes down to replacing it, I imagine it'll be an emerson, but many years down the line (if I can't find a replacement zt0630)
    Zero tolerance zt 0630 emerson design. Find one if you can and get one before they're gone.

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  3 года назад +1

      I agree the the 0630 is amazing and one of the few knives in my collection that I’ve really put to “hard use.” I am a rabid collector, so I rotate daily to give each knife “a chance.” Consequently few knives in particular get tons of use. I admire the fact that you use that same ZT daily and it’s been with you through thick and thin, from cutting carpet to cutting steak. A real companion. Touch up the edge and back at it. Thanks for sharing your experience with that awesome folder. And thanks for watching!

    Just found two Emerson’s at a local antique store. I was incredibly surprised to see rare spyderco’s, nice bokers, and bam some emersons! I bought a CQC 7B and immediately really liked it and came back for a green g10 Mach 1. The Mach 1 is from 2001! I’m hoping to maybe trade it for something waved but since it didn’t come with a box that might be wishful thinking😂
    The CQC7 had insane lock stick. Taking it apart, and keeping the pivot tight, helped break in run smoother.
    I get Emerson’s now. That cqc13 knurled handle is amazing! That’s such a great piece.

    I really like Emerson knives, so much so that my family all has ‘em...I had about eight of them over the years and scaled down the collection to three: a Jungle Commander, Jungle CQC-8, and the s35vn Sheepdog Bowie from Action Concepts. I gave my in-laws a CQC-7 because they liked the one my wife carries, lol, and she also has the Protech Punisher CQC-7. The ZT collaborations are epic, though I did sell a 0620 to pay for my Inkosi w/micarta inlay (which is a fair tradeoff but I still miss it from tune to time).

    Great video and fantastic Emerson collection. I now have 3 Emersons and am looking to purchase some of the older versions. Does the double detent on the older versions prevent the blade from being flipped open or shaken closed? Thanks -

  • @justgreg8270
    @justgreg8270 4 года назад +3

    i like Emerson designs but cant get past the fact that they do there chisel grind on the left side of the blade, most people are right handed it should be a right hand chisel so your not constantly fighting the grind trying to cut strait

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  4 года назад

      That sticks in my craw a bit too, it’s choosing aesthetics over function. I’m interested in the Tactical Elements version of the 7 with the chisel on the correct side (for right handers)

    • @TheKnifeJunkie

      @Richard Davis Yes, but he says he puts the main bevel on the show side, so it looks right.

    • @TheKnifeJunkie

      I would say go for it! I do not have an A-100 but I'd really like a full size one and my resident Emerson expert KalOpr (on YT and IG) agrees the A-100 would make an excellent first and/or only Emerson.

    Are kershaw and emerson the same ?

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  3 года назад +2

      No, Emerson Knives is a small-batch US production knife company that makes knives in their own facility, selling mostly folders in the $200-300 range. Kershaw is a much larger US production knife company making a wide variety of folders and fixed blades mostly overseas. Kershaw collaborated with Emerson to bring some of their emblematic designs to a broader public for much less money. Check out my interview and my Town Hall with Ernest Emerson on this channel. He’s a really cool guy!

    Do newer Emersons have better fit and finish? I consistently see videos on the shortcomings of their knives. I love the design, but am so worried about getting a lemon... especially for the price

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  4 года назад +1

      Speaking anecdotally, yes, I feel like their fit and finish have gotten better since they went with the single detent. Even though they are smoother out of the box than ever, they still go through an initial break in phase, usually accompanied by lock stick. I have had numerous Emerson knives and they've all come out of the short break-in period amazing knives.

  • @lonewolf597

    Great video. I am a huge Emerson fan and I am thinking about getting the Appalachain but I already have a CQC-13. This looks like the same blade, is it? Also several of my Emersons have lock stick. Have you found this in your collection and is there a way to fix it? Thanks.

    • @TheKnifeJunkie
      @TheKnifeJunkie  4 года назад +1

      The Appalachian has a more pronounced trailing point and is less broad (from edge to spine), the handle ergonomics are pretty different too. If you are a nut for bowies or have an already substantial Emerson collection, I'd say go for it. If not, I'd try out another type of design (Seax or CQC-15) for something different. For the lockstick, I like pencil graphite on the blade tang surface that contacts the lock bar. You have to refresh it, but eventually that will help take care of it.
