Saxons and Vikings is awesome. When I saw who was on it I knew it would be incredible. This song and all the others delivered. Amon Amarth does not let up.
My absolute favorite period in Amon Amarth's history is Fate of Norns - Twilight of the Thunder God. Those albums just really did it for me, and I still listen to them regularly. I discovered them in 2009, I think, and they've been my favorite band ever since, in that no other band has sound and lyrics resonate so well with me. That being said, while I'm obviously sad that they are moving away from what I personally see as their best work, more than anything I'm just happy that they are creating the stuff they want to make. That's the most important thing. Although I might not listen to Deceiver of the Gods and onward very often, I hope they keep doing whatever inspires them. Their recent single Put Your Back Into The Oar is absolutely one of my all-time favorite songs of theirs and just such a throwback to earlier albums. The remake of Masters of War also landed real nice on my playlist! Congratulations on the new release, Amon Amarth!!! By the way, my favorite song from this album is definitely Odin Owns You All! Edit: My new favorite from this album is now Heidrun. I've fallen for it with the new video release.
Perfectly written; Versus the World to Twilight of the Thunder God is AA peak era; everything else has been very solid....i love how the band has evolved and love how there is different eras within there catalog...
Look, they took something like Viking metal and made about 5 albums more than you should ever be able to get out of that genre thematically, I give them a break in that regard, it's pretty limiting style. In terms of the music they want to make, if I had to guess i'd say the members must just be dying to make a random avant garde/prog album instead of this so they can flex some different musical muscles.
I find it hard to believe that they make such a great song, with great mixing (after the catastrophe of a mix that was Berserker), which is Put Your Back Into The Oar, and then release this album with really buried lead guitars. Berserker and this album are in reality trash (Berserker is worse), but one thing is certain, they sold out completely. Jomvsiking was imo 9/10, but this is so far away even from Jomsviking, let alone the golden period from Versus the World to Twilight of the Thunder God.
@@gregklas578 I completely agree. They owe me nothing and should create music for themselves. @@wolfserker3179 Odin's name is written in many different ways due to the Germanic roots of Norse Mythology, Oden was another common way of writing Odin's name a long time ago and even in Old English it was written as Woden for a time, among other instances of "-oden" showing up in the other variations very frequently. In regards to the new album, I really like it personally as I think it offers an interesting combination of songs that appeal to the people who might prefer their "safer" albums in Jomsviking and Berserker, those who like Deceiver and prior albums but nothing after and those who still much prefer the oldschool albums from the late 90s and early 2000s such as Crusher and Norns. As someone who prefers the classics but still quite enjoys every other album (except for most of Jomsviking, I liked a couple songs but even those were relatively lackluster compared to their previous albums) that might be just a unique thing I find myself, but I'm actually quite excited at the prospect it presents that they might be potentially willing to do an album that leans more towards the classics. Also worth pointing out that most people really hate when you try to appease multiple clashing demographics at once like that, as it usually ends up feeling as if the part they like in particular suffered for the sake of another person's tastes. Great Heathen Army and Oden Owns You All are pretty close to sounding like modern Crusher tracks which is impressive to me, go listen to their Masters of War anniversary re-recording after either of them and you can really hear the similarities, I didn't really hate what they were doing but I think a modern album entirely in that style would probably pretty easily end up as another masterpiece on par with those older albums.
Oden owns you all, skagul rides with me, and the serpents trail are my personal favorites!!! Great work!!! Nothing wrong with an evolving sound, wouldve loved to have more of that classic Amon amarth sound but loving the new album a lot!!!
Oden Owns You All, Heidrun and The Serpent’s Trail are my favorites. Overall the album is very solid but I can’t help but be a little disappointed that Put Your Back Into the Oar isn’t on the album.
I listen to old Amon Amarth quite often, although I like the direction they are going. I like how they are exploring new territories with the music. For me this is a monumental release like every Amon Amarth release. This music will grow on me, I’m sure.I am still living in the with Oden on our side era, but this will keep me entertained for years to come! The new drummer is awesome & Thanks Amon Amarth for keeping metal viking!
Pretty impossible to find a favourite track on this album ... Not many bands makes full albums without at least one track failing... Amon don't fail once on this epic album
I was not sure about how good this album could be with the singles but after listen the entire album wow I love it more than I expected. I think at first hear I love this more than Berserker.
Never been a great fan of Amon Amarth but I just gave this album a listen and I must say, some of the songs stick in my head and that’s a good sign! Well done gentlemen🤟🏻
Saxons and Vikings is awesome. When I saw who was on thecsong I knew it would be incredible. The song delivered. The album left me wide eyed and jaw hanging open. Whoa! Good job. 🤘
Johan Hegg: This story comes from a seminar on ancient storytelling that I attended with my wife. The serpent’s trail is like a labyrinth-the first part of a journey through the realm of death into hell. The second part is when you go back up, and that’s the eagle’s trail. When you come back out, you become the dragon because the serpent and eagle have combined. But it’s really about an internal journey, the psychological approach to any issues you face in your life. You travel to the core of the problem, where you face your demons, and then you have to make your way back out.
My favorite part of this album is @12:02 in Heidrun: "She stands on Valhalla's roof, filling the vat with the sweetest mead!" *Random Goat* "BaAaAaAaAaaa!" Honestly I love this album though, its a great taste of when I first discovered AA back in 2004 with Fate of Norns. Keep rowing Amon Amarth!
"Dawn of Norsemen" - perfect! i awaited for a song like that! plus, "Saxons and Viking" is a fun collaboration of two great metal bands. great album altogether \m/ thank you, guys!
A great album; beautiful atmospheres and excellent guitar riffs; a real journey aboard a Drakkar. Also fantastic is the legendary Biff on Saxons and Vikings (with a title like that he could not miss as a guest).
The boys are back in style. \m/ It was a privilege to listen to a couple of the new songs by that ...cover band "Guardians of Asgaard" in Germany ;) The Great Heathen Army will demolish Wacken 2023
I listened to 4 albums that I've bought a while back when Google Play music existed then finally decided to check maybe there are new songs from Amon Amarth. More than 2 new albums, a surprise to be sure but a welcome one :)
Today I began working on my thesis. What better call to Oden than listening to albums of Amon Amarth and especially this one that I hadn't taken the time to.
I just cannot stop listening this album. It has such an amazing atmosphere! I am completely blown away. In my opinion this album belongs to their top 3.
This is a welcoming return to your guys' older sound, and I'm glad for it. Gives me Twilight of the Thunder God, Deceiver of the Gods, and Jomsviking vibes, while still sounding new.
Used to listen to these guys for 15 years from the beginning. Haven't since With Odin...and this sounds nothing like any album prior to and including that...
Skagul Rides With Me is my favourite from your new album. PS love the Heidrun bottle topper in the box set 😂 lol. Good album, wish it was longer though. All the best 🤘
Playing these absolute bangers during my running-workouts caused so much goosebumps on my skin that some bypassing fellow runners called animal-control because they believed an actual grizzly was running around town.
I personally cant get enough of Heidrun and Find a Way or Make One. This whole album is badass and there are some songs that give some older album vibes. Please keep shredding all you guys and keep making albums I will gladly support and listen to all your kickass jams!!! I bought the Great Heathen Army box set and its pretty badass. You get a badass Amon Amarth bottle topper for your wine or bourbon bottles, CD, Poster, puzzle and some cool trading cards to recruit some of your fellow viking bretheren (viking refering to any badass mofo you might know) to the great heathen army!!! I highly recommend!!! Oh and the drinking horn is a great addition to all of this!

Dawn of Norsemen it is clearly the one that most recalls the melodic times of the AA times. Those melodic riffs 'tells the story' of the song
"And there it is, the river Gjoll
Flowing cold with tears of grief
One cannot swim the river Gjoll
One has to cross the golden bridge
I reach the depths of Nifelhel
Alone, naked, and weak
Then appears the Goddess Hel
Who the dead and wretched keeps
But as I face my deepest fears
I open up my heart
And so a different path appears
My ascension starts"

@@johnathanfoster4993 so where was it written "oden"?
Oden owns you all, skagul rides with me, and the serpents trail are my personal favorites!!! Great work!!! Nothing wrong with an evolving sound, wouldve loved to have more of that classic Amon amarth sound but loving the new album a lot!!!
All great tracks.
I have been constantly listening to this album since the day one, every day!
it's nice to listen to this album and realize that right now thousands or millions of people just like you. We are THE GREAT HEATHEN ARMY!
Vikings like always.. awesome new album guys cheers from lebanon 🍺🍻🍺🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Heidrun is awesome. Never thought I'd hear a goat in an Amon Amarth song, but here we are.
Oden Owns You All, Heidrun and The Serpent’s Trail are my favorites. Overall the album is very solid but I can’t help but be a little disappointed that Put Your Back Into the Oar isn’t on the album.
I feel the same. . .
@@gloomygrim8668 my brain has been totally blown away by this album..a masterpiece!
@@bes5164 Yes, album is awesome but absence ov Put Your Back Into The Oar hurt me.
I am surprized about that, too. Such a cool track
Dawn of Norsemen for me
Find a way or make one for me, Im starting all of my gym workouts with it
Oden Owns You All for me. I love the breakdown
the great heathen army just hits different for, they're all godd but that one hits different
I was not sure about how good this album could be with the singles but after listen the entire album wow I love it more than I expected. I think at first hear I love this more than Berserker.
Love the opening masterpiece GET IN THE RING
Never been a great fan of Amon Amarth but I just gave this album a listen and I must say, some of the songs stick in my head and that’s a good sign! Well done gentlemen🤟🏻
Same for me
I'm going to an Amon Amarth concert next week. So hyped up!
Absolutely love it, sounds great 🤘🤘🤘. Warm greetings from Bhutan 🇧🇹. Been 6 year's listening to Amon Amarth and never let us down ❤️🤘🤘🤘🤘
Saxons and Vikings is awesome. When I saw who was on thecsong I knew it would be incredible. The song delivered. The album left me wide eyed and jaw hanging open. Whoa! Good job. 🤘
It's awesome, can't stop listening!!! The perfect balance between harmony and brutality.
Johan Hegg:
This story comes from a seminar on ancient storytelling that I attended with my wife.
Woowwww, what a killer album... "Saxon and Vikings" soooooo bang :D
the solo was a masterpiece!
We are the heathen army. Back to our roots of magick and warrior.
Dawn of Norseman is phenomenal. The backend of the song is ridiculously good.
lmao, go back to reddit
@@8AllDaY24 No.
A great album; beautiful atmospheres and excellent guitar riffs; a real journey aboard a Drakkar. Also fantastic is the legendary Biff on Saxons and Vikings (with a title like that he could not miss as a guest).
I love every song here, but Heidrun, Skagul Rides with Me and Saxons and Vikings take the cake for me.
The boys are back in style. \m/
It was a privilege to listen to a couple of the new songs by that ...cover band "Guardians of Asgaard" in Germany ;)
The Great Heathen Army will demolish Wacken 2023
Already got my cd in the mail. LONG LIVE AMON AMARTH!
What a brilliant idea having a Saxon member: Biff Byford, in the Saxons and Vikings song.
Saxons and Vikings is such a boss mix of power metal and death metal! I think it's my top track for this album, but that was a hard decision.
Good to see my favorite band still going
Amon Amarth always delivers greatness!
Damn Oden owns you all is fucking brutal
I just cannot stop listening this album. It has such an amazing atmosphere! I am completely blown away. In my opinion this album belongs to their top 3.
Live sounds surreal! Even better! Whatever they do, Oden must be by their side!
Amazing Work....Amon at its Best! Can't wait until the Live Event in September!
Amon for life!!!
I am 10 year one from Hungary, we are on top with my daddy to rage your music!!!
Great hearing Biff from Saxon on Saxons and Vikings!
I loved this album, adds one more bunch of songs to my viking delirium, thanks for such work!!!! I have listened to this album over 6 times today!
Heidrun is just wowwww 🤘
Skagul Rides with Me - AWESOME!!!!!!!
Their best album since many many years, glad they came back with a more epic agressive style
Biff Byford on Saxons and Vikings? Did not expect that!
This is one of those albums where I like the rest of the album more than the singles
this is such a brilliant collaboration.. I was never huge on listening to Saxon I think I'm going to have to get more familiar with their catalog..
Uma das minhas bandas favoritas🤘🤘🇧🇷
