Decades later, I still play this album very regularly. When I'm at my store and have this on, everyone who comes in and has a taste for metal ALWAYS leaves a new fan of Amon Amarth.
Early 2000's Amon Amarth, for my money and for heavy metal, doesn't get much better. Vs. The World, The Fate of Norns, and With Oden on our side is one of the best 3 albums runs in my book. All killer, and no filler, just wall to wall bangers.
Death in Fire when I was a 16 year old kid discovering metal, the video clip on TV with these men windmill headbanging on a live stage playing a style that was dark but ultra melodic at the same time. I thought I'd come into a goldmine.
Same bitch. Uranium with julya or whatever her name was and my guy Johan was like "😃the end of the world...as we know it😃" lmfao! I was instantly a fan
They still haven't touched this album. I love the band don't get me wrong. But I can't fathom how this album isn't highlighted as THE MASTERPIECE. It's fucking perfect all the way through. That perfect ground that viking metal is always trying to find in between meaning and heavy without being cheesy or a novelty. This album hits no matter what. If you've never heard it before or the genre. It's perfect after all these years.
IMO Oden equals it, although that album's a little too short. Twilight has individual songs that match this quality but the album as a whole isn't as strong
@@manfrombritain6816 fair enough, frankly I haven't listened to anything they say since this album lol. And this album for sure seems pretty damn vikingish too me. But hey let's argue more semantics about genres.

Across the Rainbow Bridge is one of the best metal songs I've ever heard, top 5. Or even just one of the best songs regardless of genre. It's like 1000 pages of Tolkien wrapped into 4 minutes.

amon amarth are one of the safest bands out there. I don't see "more effort put than most of them" in this band. While yes, this is a great album, the band got very repetitive and boring after twilight of the thunder god.
Man IVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS ALBUM Since i was a kid. When metal was alive and taking over the world for the 90s , 2000 anyway. i still have this cd album and booklet.
We covered "Death in Fire" with our band almost 15 years ago, when we were teens. We also tried to cover "Down the Slopes of Death" but our drummer just couldn't keep up... A classic!
Same. We were 16 and 17. I had the tapping part on guitar, and I'd come up with a version that required just the left hand, so I could gently shush the crowd with the other hand lol coz they got loud because the other instruments stopped.
This is probably my fourth favorite album from Amon Amarth behind Twilight of the Thunder God,Deciever of the Gods & Oden on our side. It's still a bad ass album though.

I like Amon Amarth because unlike many other "Melodic Death Metal" bands, this is mostly still derived from Death Metal as opposed to Power Metal.
You should try intestinal baalism or argohslent (argohslent are racist though)
Try God Dethroned sometime :)

It's definitely a more boring metal song imo, especially for Amon Amarth.
Try out Valkyria, Fate of Norns, any song off Surtur Rising as well
Yeah agreed! The riff at the end is simple epic bliss. Not a heavy song but awesome~!
