I'm someone who has build a lot of the Muv-Luv kits and while i'm a big fan of them and like them they still come with cons though.
      Pro:
-they look really great and have very sleek design (except gen 1 models which are more chonky)
-most of them have a lot of accesoirs and weapons for a lot of loadouts option.
-back weapon holder gimmick of melee weapon deployment and back ranged weapon can be deployed for maximum fire forward.
-great pose ability and great to do agressive flying poses due to most of them being relativly light(due to no inner frame), not really having sideskirts and flexible flight units (except the mig-21 but thats more due to it being a gen 1 mecha lorewise)
-depending on model might come with beta minifigures
      Con:
-straight build look bland and shit.
Not every piece is color accurate. Does require at least some detail painting to look good.
-mechanicly very simple and not really anything impressive. No inner frame like gunplas
-piece precision isn't on bandai level but still acceptable for kotobukiya standarts
-quite noticeable seamlines on the 1/144 scale kits. Less notcieable on non scale (about 1/100 size) but still exist on some kits.
-no undergate and gates are basically not hidden at all so require a lot of sanding off or else very noticeable.
Tl;dr: basically muv luv kits require more effort to look good and are not ideal kits for those who straight builds.

The jet mode remind me a lot of Abulhool. For those who don't know, Abulhool is a gundam precursor of Kyrios Gundam from 00 Season 1. It only appears 00 side stories such as 00I and 00P (Prologue), but it is animated in Build Fighters Try episode 19, which is the episode where they fight Denial Gundam, Gun EZ and Abulhool Gundam.

I finally got this kit. NEVER made a Kotobukiya kit before and I REALLY liked this one. Huge fan of Macross and Zone of the enders and this kind of hit a hybrid sweet spot. If there was ONE critique, it would be that.....some of the joints (and it could be just on mine or something i did) are REALLY stiff. Which would normally be a good thing but when enough parts need to rotate separately from others it can make the transformation a wee bit tricky..........also one of the leg tail fin pieces fell into the couch monster and I can't get it back without destroying the couch but not a total loss. Still loved the kit and if it was a WEE bit cheaper I would consider getting multiple to customize with some macross decals.

@@KiuHayakari I started on 30ms kits too, built the 3 initial releases + add ons and extra hair parts , hand parts before I went to Frame arms girls / megami device. I used to think that the price difference didn't justify my spending almost 3 times more. But honestly after building my first frame arms girl which was hresvelger ater I find it hard to go back to 30ms. 30ms are cheaper but not only are the modern Frame arms girls and megami devices better in quality, they also have way more accessories as compared to a bare bones 30ms. In fact if you calculate how much you have to spend on a 30ms such as luluce herself which I bought for 30usd ( but ill put 25usd since that's her usual retail price,) her armor, (8usd) extra hand parts (8usd) and a weapon pack since she only comes with a shield (9usd) the cost would come up close enough to a good modern frame arms girl like the samurai gourai which is priced at 54 - 60 usd or Stylet Xf3 ( currently up for po at 52 usd in my local hobby store, ) or even the hresvelgr ater herself, (current po at 55ish usd ). Even Jinrai indigo which is an older kit that is currently up for 34 usd pre order in my local store has 2 swords, 12 shuriken, 7 daggers and 3 kunai knives plus a shoulder cannon and handparts that arent sold separately.
Now as for the quality I admit that bandai's plastic is better than the older frame arms girls apart from the skin parts and faceplates. bandai's printing on the faceplates still seem like stickers uppon close inspection, koto's are on par with figma. But the later koto kits with the lumitea ( 60usd) being the best example, blow the 30ms out of the water even at plastic quality
TLDR: 30ms seem cheap because they sell the base kit barebones but if you want to buy add ons that give them the same amount of stuff as a Frame arms girl then the price is actually closer, with frame arms being better in quality.

That Kotobukiya Garuda Fighter Beluga deserves that Gundarium Tier rating...
That's the one thing Kotobukiya had done right, what the Bandai Spirits/Bandai NAMCO Gunplas like RG Zeta, HGs Murasame, Kyrios, Arios+GNArcher GNHW/M, OVER FLAG, GN FLAG, ESF BRAVE Commander and Mass Production Test Types, AGE II Normal and AGE II Magnum/ SV Types; and the rest of Variable Framed Grunt MSs and Gundams like REZEL and Delta Gundam Kai; have all been struggling for a long time: to reproduce the Mobile Armor Modes of those Gunplas THAT doesn't need extra and externally fixed parts forming blocks...
Kudos to Kotobukiya, Bandai NAMCO MUST Learn from this, and see you in the next Mecha Review

The last two Kotobukiya kits I've built are the Metal Gear Sahelanthropus, and the Kagetora (which as far as I can tell is basically the same build as the White Tiger and the Zero Tora, but with different colors and accessories, or something,) and they were both fantastic, with the Kagetora having a very solid MG style feel and size, and the Sahelanthropus being just a fucking space station worth of gizmos.
They're both Yoji Shinkawa designs, so the aesthetic is spot on, (I consider Shinkawa to be probably the best mecha designer out there, especially when it comes to realistic military machines,) and Kotobukiya clearly tends to put a lot more detail and passion into their Metal Gear kits, (as well as their Armored Core kits, in my personal opinion,) than they seem to do with their Frame Arms kits, historically, although I've made kits that I've purchased off eBay from older production runs of Frame Arms, and they have definitely improved quality control as the years go on. Re-released kits tend to just fit better than the originals.
They just re-released Metal Gear Rex, and are about to re-release the black version, (I own one from the original run, that I paid like 4x what the re-release costs at retail.) I would love to see you build that kit!

Funnily enough both frame arms that I have built are also transformers, between izumo and second jive if you are looking for another kit it depends on if you want a macross style transformation or a full change. Izumo is the macross style but only the legs transform while second jive becomes a full bike.i liked the idea of using second jive as a bike for a gundam to ride on though it’s transformation is abit wonky

the newer frame arms are pretty decent. I've built two, the long range (blue) kagutsutchi otsu and the greifen. Both are pretty good kits all around but have flaws. The kagutsutchi has loose ball joints in the hips because the frame is unique as the torso construction gets flipped around (shoulders=hips and hips=shoulders), which i cemented into place to prvent them from falling off every time i posed it. The greifen is good for display, but i havent found it that fun to pose, though i did just get it recently and havent messed with it much. it has very unique legs which are bulky, and i actually assembled the hip joints the wrong-ish way around to get more articulat, as they can go inwards like the mech wants to take a leak rather than splaying outwards. additionaly the legs are bulky, and everything sort of gets in the way of everything else, including the arm mounted mode for the missile pods. i would recommend them, but maybe see if there are better ones before purchase. maybe a silver or gold-ish tier for both. additionally, if you ARE looking for recent frame arms, look for a rebuild tag if the kit seems older, since i bought one without the rebuild tag, it was loose, but decently fun to look at and build. this kit being the izumo.
Edit-Oh, forgot to clarify, the izumo and kagutsutchi are both fairly recent in my eyes, both were built i'd say a week or so after christmas. The greifen was built just a few days ago

This is the kind of transformation where you have to seriously compare this kit to some of the best transformers figures in terms of smooth transformation that does not negatively affect the robot form.

    • @andrewowens4421
      @andrewowens4421 2 года назад

What sells the transformation for me is that it's not overly complicated and it still masks the robot part well enough that at first glance you can't tell what is the "robot" part of it. That takes some pretty good engineering skills to pull off.

I built only three Koto kits to date. The very old Super Robot Wars Valsione, a chibi Zoids Blade Liger and most recently Frame Arms Girls Wonder Woman. I like how the valsione looks, but it is a spiky brick. The chibi Liger is adorable and highly recommended, but think getting that one is going to be hard. The Wonder Woman was an interesting build and fits in well with 30 minute sisters.

I built Zero and Force Armor X from their Mega Man X line of kits. They build like mecha but pose like figures and come with a few fully painted faces you can swap out for more posing options. Color separation is basically perfect with no stickers either. The builds were fun, but Kotobukiya's plastic doesn't feel as good to hold and snap together as Bandai's, and the kits aren't without seamlines. They look great out of the box though and are very sturdy. I think HLJ has most of them in stock.
